Thought I'd start a new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
becklebigbump · 15/11/2007 11:38

Insy big hugs. Am that they would send your DH away when you are so close to your DD!

insywinsyspider · 15/11/2007 11:50

he has to go before xmas apparently to sort out a customer, he sounded as upset as me to be honest, this was the first date he could get a flight so he wouldn't be away over actual DD or when baby was here... still as you've prob all gathered I'm struggling anyway! this really doesn't help

on drinking note - the least he can do is not drink - after all we've managed to cut back/stop for 9 months, think is a reasonable request

vit k - can't it be given orally? think it has to be 2 doses tho - personally I think injection is fine

Housemum · 15/11/2007 11:55

Cazzy - it's not so much the getting to hospital, but that I'd be upset if he missed out, particularly as this is our last, and he said last time what a wonderful experience it was.

claireybraxtonhicks · 15/11/2007 12:09

No Housemum, YANBU. Although my dh clearly thinks IABU for suggesting he restricts himself to just one glass a night between now and the birth.

Beanster I am very jealous of your birthday treats-sounds lovely!

OMG Insy-poor you! I thought it was bad that dh had to go to a seminar with an overnight stay but a whole week?! And America too-not exactly like he can just jump in the car to get back to you is it? Not surprised you are upset xx

RE Vit K on dd's birth plan I circled the orally box(can't remember why!) but was then told by the mw that it was injection or nothing there. DD had the injection and she didn't even notice.

suey2 · 15/11/2007 12:09

hi all,
wasn't online yesterday- had a big fat feed with my best mate and had to lie down for the rest of the day! (the creme brulee was worth it though)

VitK definite yes. Birth plan still no, getting more of an idea, but want to finish the antenatal classes first. I also find it difficult to discuss with DH as he is so ill-informed compared with me- the look on his face when i asked him if he wanted to be there if a CS became necessary! He is very squeamish. But my basic essentials are:

  • willing to conside all forms of pain relief- would prefer diamorphine to pethidine
  • will leave decision on cutting cord to at the time (depends on how DH handles it)
  • clean up before receiving LO (DH squeamishness again)
  • BF ASAP

-Want to avoid episiotomy if at all possible- would rather tear

  • want to be able to move around during labour
  • when i ask for pain relief, i want to be given it straight away- i will only ask when absolutely necessary
  • i want to be consulted about all decisions
  • in the event of a c section, my one allowed birth partner should be my mother, not my DH
  • i would like a private room if available

that's about as far as i have got.

suey2 · 15/11/2007 12:10

oh and yes to the syntometrin placenta expelling drug

insywinsyspider · 15/11/2007 12:23

clairey - trying to work out how to manage with ds, I've been getting dh to do most of lifting this week as bump is getting sore - trying to get hold of my mum for some practical support!

suey - sounds like the beginnings of a very comprehensive plan, I made a few notes last night, wish I could have kept notes from last time to see what I'd written!

claireybraxtonhicks · 15/11/2007 12:37

Insy I know what you mean about carrying them making your bump sore. Most of our buses are non buggy friendly ones so when I go to the hospital for my scans/consultant appointments it's easier to leave the bugy at home. The other day dd was overtired though and I had to carry her home from the bus stop-the side of my bump felt really bruised aftewards. Now I take my pouch sling and use that to carry her in the hip hold-takes the strain off my back and seemed to be less painful on the tummy when I tried it. Not really practical for just up/down stairs etc though-I'm afraid I am mean and make dd do it herself! Her highchair converts to table and chair so I've got it like that so I dont need to lift her into it and I put the side down on her cot and refuse to lift her until she stands up-meanie!

insywinsyspider · 15/11/2007 13:00

i got a baba sling for LO and been using it with ds when we need to pop into shop which has been great - he's at a funny age where sometimes he'll go up and downstairs fine and other times he'll just refuse, its bath time and getting him in and out of cot I find difficult - hopefully cot bed matress will be here tomorrow so we can try that, high chair is an issue, the other night we had a 'picnic' in the living room

mixedmama · 15/11/2007 13:26

suey - that birth plan sounds good... forgot about the injection for the placenta... i had that altho didnt include it in the plan the MW just done it... certainly want the placentaa out quickly so i can enjoy time with the baby rather than worry about delivering placenta.

thelady · 15/11/2007 13:31

insywinsyspider: that's just horrid! I hope his work knows just how far along you are and realise what a big ask this is

Wizzska · 15/11/2007 13:31

Suey, v. impressive birth plan. Mine now consists of

Stay at home if possible
Would rather tear than epesiotomy
Yes to syntometrin if necessary
Yes to Vit K injection
Up to DH at the time if he wants to cut cord.

bf asap
no to pethidin
if I tear badly, I think I'll want to taken to hospital to be stitched up.

Ambi · 15/11/2007 14:00

suey that's a good plan, mines pretty basic but I like the: to be consulted about everything, should stop the doctors doing what they please (hopefully). Insy, hugs for you and poor DH, I hope it works out for you.

Bloody knackered after shopping now, the old dears are out in force, bad driving and stopping in the aisles for a chat. I know I have to get used to slower pace of life during the day, and I?m not in that much of a hurry anymore but that wasn?t fun at all and I give up on a big shop now, tescos online from now on. Oh I think I need a lie down now, though bought naughty snacks for later,

Bouncingturtle · 15/11/2007 14:05

Hello!
I've got some vague ideas about birth plan, will firm up next week after the AN class.
Did some prenatal aquafit, it was very good, definitely going back, though not a good turn out - only me and one other! INstructor was really nice, and I liked her choice of music

Wizzska · 15/11/2007 14:08

Glad everyone's snacking! I've got some chocolate buttons for later.

Am absolutely knackered. Don't know how I'm going to keep going tonight, got to go straight from work to my evening class until 9.30.

Note to all you other people a few weeks behind me. I hit a wall at 37 weeks, if I could play it all again I'd not work after that. Still, only today and tomorrow to go before ML. Then next week will consist of sleeping (hopefully), watching telly, and snacking - oh, and mumsnet of course .

Hope all you ladies with toddlers are managing. Don't know how you do it - although friends have said it helps take your mind off your own symptoms.

loucee · 15/11/2007 14:12

Cazzy - my DH is the same - not that he drinks excessively but the thought that he can't drink from now until the baby comes would really wind him up! In saying that though he surprised me at the weekend when he mentioned his works' Christmas night out and said "I told them I can't go, can't be out drinking so close to your due date" I was shocked but very happy!

Insy - what awful timing of your DH's work. Do you have any family close by that can come and stay for the week to help out with DS?

Birthplans, need to write mine but will keep it quite short as last time most of the things I wrote were sort of "if x or y happens I'd like Z, otherwise I'd like A" IYKWIM? One thing I will write this time though is that my DH can speak on my behalf at any time - he's going to be fully briefed on what I do and don't want/would prefer beforehand! Also going to try to get into a "zone" along the lines of hypnobirthing so I will need to concentrate on remaining in that stance rather than making decisions.

Ambi - my hind waters broke in Asda with DD! this time round I've put a pad in my bag just in case as was most unpleasant driving home like that! (Labour started 6 hours after that).

Whoever mentioned Aloe vera gel - sounds good and I'm tempted to try and find some myself but looking at my cupboard in my bathroom I'm not going to be able to use all the remedies on the pads more than once a day at this rate!

loucee · 15/11/2007 14:19

Wizzska - yes I do agree that having a toddler takes your mind off things but other times makes getting anything done so very difficult!

Trying desperately to avoid lovely treats (food) so making do with drinking chocolate instead.

Anyone non first timers remember how long it takes for your bump to go down after the baby? I honestly can't remember how long it took last time but want to prepare myself! I know my uterus went down by the time the MW discharged me from her care (about 2 wks post birth) but remember I had a 4 month baby bump for a while.

Wizzska · 15/11/2007 14:30

Loucee - I can't wait to have my body back. I'm so sick of this massive bump.

Ambi · 15/11/2007 14:37

Totally ballsed up the painting of the cot, given as a gift by in laws. Was mahogany wanted to do it white so it'd go with other light furniture we have, it's got paint drips all over it due not being able to bend down for long, plus it'll take me months to finish the rest of it. Think I might just get a white cot and make em think it's the same one? Is that awful? or should I fess up? Reckoning that once the baby's here, they shouldn't be too bothered about some furniture (it wasn't brand new anyway)

Housemum · 15/11/2007 14:38

Can't remember how long for bump to go down. Walking helps a lot, good exercise and can help calm baby if they are grouchy (though of course it will be bloody freezing!) - DD1 I was bak to pre-preg shape by the time she was 6 months but I did go to Weight Watchers and walk a lot. DD2, stayed about half to a stone overweight - didn't walk so much as I didn't like my pushchair and hadn't really made a plan to walk so sat on my lazy backside!

Be prepared for the shock for the first few days after of this awful baggy skin where the bump was! If you can see a front cover of a fitness DVD called "getting back" thre is a pic on there of someone squeezing her post-baby flabby bits!! That doesn't last too long, but it is a shock if you aren't prepared for it!

For after baby is born, pull on soft trousers are a v good idea - I had a smart black pair from M&S (probably from the old-lady office-wear range!) - they were nice slinky smart material, sort you could jazz up to go out - but soft & comfy and went with most things. I have a pair of yoga-pant type trousers this time which are equally soft and stretchy.

Ambi · 15/11/2007 14:39

Loucee, I hope it doesn't take too long to go down, I realised I'm more vain than I thought (not that I'm a model by any stretch) The checkout girl at M&S did smile when I got some massive magic pants with my nursing bras...

claireybraxtonhicks · 15/11/2007 14:40

Having a toddler is great in one way as it has made pregnancy go so much faster, but in another it is really hard work. DD wakes from her nap at the same time as I start to enter my afternoon slump so instead of lying on the sofa reading/watching crap tv like I really want to I spend my time building towers/changing nappies/singing songs etc-It's fun (well apart from the nappies!)and normally I love it but it's unfortunate that her playtime coincides with my tired time! Never mind-only a few more weeks and I'll be wondering why the hell I was complaining about being tired during pregnancy!

suey2 · 15/11/2007 14:40

just back from MW. Have glucose in wee again and am measuring big for dates (38cm at 36+2). Have to go for growth scan and may be referred on to obstetrician. bugger

claireybraxtonhicks · 15/11/2007 14:45

whoops Ambi-very brave of you to attempt mahogany to white anyway!

Erm, I was skinnier than pre pregnancy within 3 weeks but that was due to totally overdoing it and not eating properly. I did still have the flabby pouch though-please don't imagine I was supple and toned within 3 weeks (or in fact at all since I was about 16!).

Ewwww I hate that post birth tummy-it feels horrible! I couldn't touch it! Remember having a bath a couple of days after and my tummy was swaying and rippling in the water-I had to get out of the bath cos it grossed me out!

claireybraxtonhicks · 15/11/2007 14:45

Aw sorry Suey
Let us know how you get on, hope all is ok
