Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
macdoodle · 14/11/2007 21:03

Would have thought so but this baby was def head down at last MW check 4 weeks ago...and although I felt different, I def was not aware of baby doing full 180 degree somersault so am hoping she will just go back ??

Caz10 · 14/11/2007 21:05

Hi all and welcome mememummy!
I'm not sure re the turning, I got the impression they could turn at any time up till the last min, but maybe that is wishful thinking?
My MW care has been great, regular appointments with the same 2 MWs, but I have NEVER had my bump measured and the last check (34weeks) was the last time she felt for and recorded position of the baby. I just presumed it was too wee before then?
She is coming round in a fortnight to help fill in my birth plan - 1st time for a home visit, we must be judged too fat and cumbersome by then to get to the clinic (even though I will still be at work!).
Glad everyone is coping, not long now!!!

mememummy · 14/11/2007 21:09

i havent been offered home visit at all am i meant to i feel like a pregnancy virgin hehe have just worked out 26days till edd, cannot believe it i kep forgetting and tell people im 6 months oops i hope my baby doesnt turn over now, i would be scared i really want to avoid an epidural, shes been head down since 20week scan tho so i think shes comfy,

mememummy · 14/11/2007 23:01

nighty nighty yummy mummys xxx

thingamajig · 14/11/2007 23:10

Hi there everyone, I havn't posted for ages, but have now at last had my MRI scan to see if my pelvis is capable of getting a baby through it, which it is, thank god. I can now get on with planning a waterbirth at home, I've had so many vile experiences of being in hosp that I really hope I dont need to be transferred in, but my lovely mw seems to think I should be fine.
Bump hated the scan, she didn't like me lying on my back, so she had a right old wriggle, so it was really hard not to move. Consequently she was a really weird shape on the images, dh asked if she was a deformed mutant!
I'm 35+5 now and am really beginning to feel fat and fed up and heartburn-y. My first bottle of Gaviscon lasted months, I've gone through the latest one in a few days
My mum is coming to stay tomorrow, we have been getting on better since I have been pg, though I still havn't managed to convince her that I'm not driving 4 hours to hers for Christmas (EDD 21st Dec!! I did tell her in April)
Really don't know how I would cope with older children or a job at the mo, Ive been off with antenatal depression since I dont know when, these days I think I'm just normal hormonal rather than actually ill which is nice, but a bit worried about how things will go after baby is born. I am looking forward to meeting her, I cant wait, but Im a bit scared too, what if I cant cope. At least I have all you ladies to talk to, even If I dont post much I read this thread religiously and it makes me feel so much more normal.
Sorry have waffled on.

BunnyBaby · 15/11/2007 07:44

Yippee I finished work yesterday - more time for MN - am now 38+1 Yay!

Macdoodle - At 34 weeks my baby was turning somersaults each day, there was loads of room there, don't worry. The baby then turned breech, and then flipped back a 37 weeks, felt a huge amount of stretching in the middle of the night. Went to see my reflexologist and used moxibustion sticks too, which did the trick. It happened in the middle of the night when I rolled on my back and I knew the baby was on the move.

Reflexologist says that they can turn at any point. She's had women come to her a week overdue and the baby has decided to turn breech so it can happen to any of us, at any point. Just go ahead and keep visualising the baby head down. worked for me

buzzybee · 15/11/2007 08:03

OK so its 9pm here, I have a terrible case of the burps and LO has hiccups! Was lying on the sofa but made me feel ill so now wandering around trying to bring up the gas so I can toddle off to bed. Any advice?? Have just made a batch of bran muffins as that gave me something to do standing up.

[Hopefully they'll last til Sat when a friend is throwing me a baby shower - can take along for the hungry hordes!]

Bunnybaby now you've got me worried that my LO might turn breech! Am 35 weeks tomorrow...

Bouncingturtle · 15/11/2007 09:12

Morning everyone... and evening Buzzy - have you still got the burps?
Hi Meme - know what you mean, it seems that time has really speeded up, casn't believe I have less than 6 weeks ago!
My baby is still a little wriggler, I think it's still head down though.
Currently doing my xmas shopping! Seem to have no energy today!

Housemum · 15/11/2007 09:18

Morning! Meme - you made me think of DD1 talking about the bus - she's said that she loves the idea of the new baby but would I mind if she didn't push the pram as people might think it's hers??!! (She's nearly 15) I said that I'd buy a huge "I'm the big sister" badge! She sometimes takes DD2 for a walk up to the sweet shop when she goes to Blockbuster, and says even then she has had funny looks before - mad, as she was only 10 when DD2 was born so impossible!!

Quick AIBU poll here - have suggested as I approach 34 weeks he doesn't drink between now and birth (DD1 arrived at 33 wks, DD2 was 38 wks) - I think it's a small price to pay, after all I've had no more than the occasional sip for best part of 9 months? He's said he is fine with that, but in that martyr-like way blokes have of agreeing to something and making you feel like a s**t for suggesting it.

For fellow heartburn sufferers - as well as finding milk a good idea, have now bought a load of instant Horlicks sachets - they are pretty good, as sometimes I fancy a hot drink but tea doesn't help the heartburn and the Horlicks seems OK if you don't mind the malty taste. Ovaltine probably works the same. (Though I can't do the chocolate ones at the moment - chocolate anything gives me heartburn )

Housemum · 15/11/2007 09:21

Hi Bouncing - know what you mean about no energy - in my head I want to do things, but the body is dragging behind.

Anyone else sad like me and weighing themselves? (I can't see the scales like Meme but they are battery ones so the weight stays on the screen when I get off!) Is it normal to stop gaining weight in the last trimester? I thought this was when you put on a pound a week but I've stayed the same for 2 weeks now.

Shame my MW is on hols this week as I should have had an appt today - am going next Tues for hosp check-up then have MW next Thurs.

mixedmama · 15/11/2007 09:26

Morning all....

Cant remember who said what so will just post generally.

Birth Plans: Mine is quite detailed but mainly about minor things, like umbilical cords and a bit of private time after the birth, also done a few notes incase I end up with CS.

Most important points for me tho are minimal internals, 6 hour discharge if possible, access to birthing pool and if i would like pain relief I will ask for it. Perhaps i should just change to this, save a whole sheet of paper. Have picked the MW led unit rather than delivery suite so hopefully that will help me avoid too much intervention or epidurals and things I would rather not have. Ultimately tho, it isnt predictable and on the day if things change then I will go with the flow.

Vit K: I didnt even occur to me not to give this last time so didnt even include it in the birth plan. At the time the MW just asked and we said yes, didnt occur to me to say no to be honest altho I am sure I asked what it was for and then just went ahead.

macdoodle · 15/11/2007 09:29

Meant to ask earlier why would you not give Vit K it avoids a potentially fatal complication in newborn and has no risks really....thats my medical head on please give it no reason not to...

mixedmama · 15/11/2007 09:30

Housemum - in answer to your question I think that is pretty reasonable, you need him to be alert and ready to go.

mixedmama · 15/11/2007 09:33

Macdoodle - my coussin and his wife didnt give the Vit K as his wife said that newborns are prodded enough so she didnnt see the point, she also didnt want the heel prick tests etc as she said it was not necessary. Whilst I disagree and feel a small amount of discomfort is worth it, but it was their decision, not sure it was based on anything more than this tho altho I could be wrong.

claraquitebignow · 15/11/2007 09:33

Skidaddle - thanks for asking about dd and croup - it is fairly miserable, she barks all night although astonishingly it doesn't seem to bother her, just keeps me awake and makes me even more stressed! Anyway we went to the dr's today - although there is not too much they can do, it should just go away on its own.

CP, Housemum - older mums rool!!

macdoodle · 15/11/2007 09:37

Vitamin K - read this link please
www.womens-health.co.uk/vitk.asp
the controversy to my mind is even more absurd than the MMR link - why witholdsomething which can prevent death or damage ...I really don't think a small injection wll tramatise the baby too much and same for heel prick....
these are all reasons why infant mortality is now so low
Anyway no more preaching this is not the forum to do it

macdoodle · 15/11/2007 09:39

sorry forgot to do the link thing
www.womens-health.co.uk/vitk.asp

Wizzska · 15/11/2007 09:54

Glad you're all talking about the vit K thing. I spoke about it with the MW yesterday. I couldn't really understand the problem, I think I'd be happy to go for the injection. If the research was correct, then surely we'd have seen more evidence by now. The paper was first written in the nineties. I'm sure little one will be ok with a little pin prick, bless his heart and then its all over and done with.

mixedmama · 15/11/2007 09:59

What is it that the research says???

macdoodle · 15/11/2007 10:27

It is NOt research any more than wakefieled's was...a very very nebulous link between Vit K and leukaemia since disporiven by very good studies...NO good reason not to give it

Ambi · 15/11/2007 10:28

Been getting shooting pains this morning but it?s calmed down a bit now. Gotta go food shopping and don?t fancy gushing in the freezer aisle at Asda, I?ll venture out in a bit armed with a mattress sized pad and hope for the best. Wish I wasn?t a firstie, then I?d know what to expect. It?s like every little twinge freaks me out at the mo.

My parents have gone on holiday today and I?m on strict instructions not to have this baby until they get back next week!!!

Macdoodle, I was breech at 34 weeks, my helpful mum was advising that a normal delivery would still be fine, (ouch) LO appears to have turned now though, so fingers crossed for your next appt.

Nice to know the epi/tear thing now though, I had it wrong way round ? I know it?ll be the last thing on my mind after hours of labour. God it gives me shivers thinking about it though. The pain/labour I?m not too afraid of at all, but the gore and the thought of tearing, no thanks. Perhaps that?s why I wasn?t so bothered about having a section. I think I might look for some aloe vera gel as heard putting some on pads and in the freezer can be relieving.

Housemum, my DH mentioned this last week, not that he drinks much at all but we got a bottle of wine a couple of weeks back and now it?s sad there all sad and unused as hubby wants to be ready to go if and when. So no, YANBU.

mixedmama · 15/11/2007 10:45

Ambi - the weird thing is with DS1 I dont remember fretting or worryiong about pains or anything I really just went with the flow....this time round I worry about every, single niggle. Strange.

insywinsyspider · 15/11/2007 11:30

have to apologise now as haven't caugh up with posts - no idea what I was chatting about yesterday - dh has just rung to say work are sending him to America for a week a week on Monday, I'll be 37 wks just sitting at my desk trying not to cry, I'll still be at work then.....

cazzybabs · 15/11/2007 11:34

Oh god - I think I would be divorced or there would be no more children is I forbaid dh to drink. Very quick labours are unusual and you can always get a taxi...

becklebigbump · 15/11/2007 11:37

Hiya all!
Skid it was not my LO who turned at 37 weeks, am only 34 weeks today! LO has been breech a few times though.
Macdoodle I would not worry too much about LO being breech just yet, there is plenty of time for her to turn. You are due the day before me I think and my LO has still not 'settled' into a good position but MW is not overly worried yet, I am sure they were just preparing you for all the options.
Housemum I don't think you are being unreasonable to ask DH to stay off the alcohol, especially not as both of your other DCs came early! My DH is not a drinker so is not too much of a problem for me but I have told him he cannot drink over Christmas and New Year if I have not had baby!
MM I remember the heel prick test with my boys and it made me cry - was the first time (since the birth) when they felt pain. Still think it is worth it though and the same with the Vit K - didn't cross my mind not to have them done.

Had MW appt yesterday and saw a really nice MW who tested baby's heart without being asked (she remembered me and my paranoia from my booking in appointment!). She said baby is doing well although is laying very akwardly and very high. The head is at the bottom but nowhere near the pelvis at the moment, also it's back is on the right rather than the left. She listened to the HB for a minute or 2 and said baby seems very happy in there though! It does look as though I may have a bit of a hernia though - there has been a swollen bit very low down on the right of my pubic bone for a while but it has got a bit bigger. The other MWs put it down to fluid but this one said to go to GP (going next week) although if it is a hernia there is nothing they will do and should cause no problems.
