OK hopefully no-one else has started a new thread!

OP posts:

I quite like Oscar... wouldnt use it for my own child... but did meet a little Oscar at a mum and baby group and he was cute and definitely an Oscar.

Wizzska · 02/10/2007 14:41

Loucee - I bought a mattress for my cot on ebay. stores.ebay.co.uk/BABY-MATTRESSES-ONLINE. I'm going to get another for the moses basket. Hope this link helps.

Amani · 02/10/2007 14:42

MM - your ILs sound like they belong in a Bollywood drama.

mixedmama · 02/10/2007 14:44

yeah as the villains.....

Loucee · 02/10/2007 14:47

Wizzska thanks for the link, I'll have a browse now!

MM - yep that's whats making me undecided about shortlisting Oscar as a name, I do like it but not sure for "us". DD's name also begins with O so maybe that would be a "no-no" anyway?
If the truth be known we are really stuck for names. Our surname begins with D and is very strange which makes it really tricky!

mixedmama · 02/10/2007 14:49

worse part Amani is that i know that if anyone asks me where i have been why i have not been round i will not be able to hold back saying why.

plus, Bengali people (and I say bengali as none of my pakistani friends observe this, as seen as a Hindu thing) expect you to touch their feet when doing Eid Mubarak and firstly, I am against that anyway but do it just for arguments sake as it is only two days of the year, secondly it is a sign of respect and to be very honest i dont have one shread of respect for any of them.... i do what i do out of respect for DH.

I am turning this into about me again so will shut up now. trying to keep in good spirits.

I have changed my mind about mat leave now as well... had thought of leaving at Xmas (39 weeks) but now realise that is a tad reidiculous so am thinking 35 weeks...that will leave 8 weeks at work... woo hoo.

mixedmama · 02/10/2007 14:51

Loucee - that is difficult. are there anyothers floating about that you like?

Amani · 02/10/2007 14:57

MM - it's Eid; it will be a stupid time for them to bring up any arguments etc.

7th December my last day here - 9 weeks and counting.

This is probably not a done thing but thought I would mention I'm selling a PSP (boxed, as new condition) and a Sony digital camcorder in the For sale section if anyone is interested!

Loucee · 02/10/2007 14:59

meant to say MM that I know everyone is different but I think you'll be better off finishing a bit earlier than 39 wks. Christmas time is so busy for transport and shops etc that you'll be better off out of it at home!

Housemum · 02/10/2007 15:03

Loucee - for what it's worth Oscar is on our shortlist (if I could remember where I put it - I hid it somewhere so DD1 wouldn't read it and blab - can't remember where though!!)

At first I thought it was a bit poncy, but then it really grew on me. Normal but not too popular. Also like Oliver, but not sure on Ollie (reminds me of a kid at school many years ago - funny how some people's names stick in your head)

mixedmama · 02/10/2007 15:03

I know.... I think i need some me time to relax (with DS1 in tow) before baby arrives as well, you know getting house ready... having naps if I want etc. Talkign of Xmas that reminds me, I need to start my lists as i want to get everything out of the way ASAP as walking around virtually ready to drop doing Xmas shopping just doesnt work for me.

suey2 · 02/10/2007 15:06

WOO-HOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gestational diabetes NEGATIVE!!!!
Must have been all the fat feeds in america

becklespookle · 02/10/2007 15:10

Loucee - I love Oscar! Such a cool name and one of those I have no doubt will be topping the polls in a couple of years time (unfortunately DH won't agree to it, hmph.)

Suey - Hoorah! Must be a big relief for you!

Amani · 02/10/2007 15:10

well done suey2.

Who can tell me what a 'general ability verbal test' is (got it on Friday) Tried Googling, but nothing definitive.

suey2 · 02/10/2007 15:18

loucee- love oscar. very cool name- slight reservation though. THis may sound a bit daft but if i was thinking for my own child, I would hope that he didn't turn out introverted and bespectacled. Particularly where you live! If the child is outgoing and popular, oscar would be an awesome name.

Loucee · 02/10/2007 15:20

Great news Suey2, enjoy those chocolate biscuits now!

claraq · 02/10/2007 15:23

Loucee - Oscar is a good name. Also really like Oliver, that is my brother's name.
We have probably decided on a boys name but other names I like include Huey, Morgan, Jack.
Can't believe how many Isobel/Isobelle/Isobellas have suddenly popped up! Now worried it will be too common although really like it (probably Isobelle). HOWEVER with another 8 weeks 4 days (and counting!) until due date will no doubt change our minds many more times.

Had antenatal appointment this morning and asked for heart beat rate - apparently was about 126 per minute. According to a friend this means is a boy as is low. Anyone else tried this? My doctor told me firmly it was nonsense!

Loucee · 02/10/2007 15:24

Yeah Suey2 I know EXACTLY what you mean!! MIL (headteacher of a primary school) hates it! BTW meant to say we actually live in S'ven too - was saying close to E. Kilbride to put it on the map!

mixedmama · 02/10/2007 15:24

Great news Suey

Wizzska · 02/10/2007 15:25

Great news Suey!

I like Oscar too - don't think it would go with our surname though.

insywinsyspider · 02/10/2007 15:57

Oliver is a fab name (thats what ds is called - it appears to be number 5 on top 100 name list tho although interestingly I don't know any other toddlers with the name - I'm sure he'll be one of 5 Olivers in his class at school!)

Oscar is a lovely name too - I don't think it matters if you have two O names, I liked Owain for a boy but dh didn't - think its too celtic for him

suey - great news!

Amani - general verbal test I think is just verbal reasoning like comprehension at school, can you understand what someone is trying to say in a memo that type of thing... altho not sure - what job is the interview for?

suey2 · 02/10/2007 16:07

I am glad you are not offended loucee! I just remember that you didn't need anything to mark you out as different in Strathaven. It was pretty bad for us at times as an english family. I also remember being called rubber lips at school for a good couple of years.

Loucee · 02/10/2007 16:18

Suey, really did you suffer cos of being English up here? That surprises me as there seems to be so many english folk up here (in fact our development was called "little england" when it was just finished as so many English families had moved in! Do you think your parents would ever move back down south or are they too settled now? (I toy with the idea of us moving back down but as DH is Scottish he has his family up here whilst mine are down south)

Insy, DD was going to be Oliver if she was a He!

suey2 · 02/10/2007 16:27

loucee it was quite surprising the racism that we encountered. It may be different now, but there were not many english families when I grew up. I remember picking up the phone when I was about 7 to 'eff off home you effing english bas*rds'. My brother never supports Scotland teams now because of all the flak he suffered when the scots tore down the posts at wembley in 1977. Only last week my mum overheard 2 woman say- 'who's that?' ' it's that english bi*h from down the road'. Bit much after 38 years. We got a lot of 'you english coming up here and taking our jobs' etc.
As you can imagine, I have a zero tolerance to when the scottish support anyone against england: first ministers and tennis players alike. WTF did andy murray think he was doing, saying he would never support england 2 weeks before playing at wimbledon!!
