cl yes aneamic- 9.2 is your haemoglobin level, it will decrease through the pregnancy hence why they will start treatment now before it gets any worse! it will leave you tired and more prone to hormonal outbursts if it gets low- drink lots of orange juice when they put you on an iron supplement as the vit c helps to absorb iron into your bloodstream much quicker.

Prisci · 27/09/2007 12:46

Hi everyone,

I hope it is not too late to join, I have been watching the thread in the last few days and it makes me so relieved that I am not the only one to worry about prams, finding clothes that fit (PS Zara has a new small maternity range which has a few nice items and is not too expensive), breasfeeding, and which method to use to look after the baby etc...

Brazilianmum · 27/09/2007 12:49

Welcome Prisci. We are all very freindly and addicted to MN. Everyone keeps saying this thread moves faster than the others so don't be shy.

e14mum · 27/09/2007 12:50

Hi Pricsi!
Thanks for the tip on Zara. When are you due? There's a thread with dates here you can add yourself to

e14mum · 27/09/2007 12:51

Oops... here

spugs · 27/09/2007 12:54

my1st - i had protein in my wee at first mws appointment, said it could be a wee infection. it turned out infact to be nothing. i wouldnt worry

i weighed 5 lb at birth and dh 7lb, dd1 was 6lb 9 and dd2 7lb 5. i think it does depend to an extent on the build of the mum but first time babies do seem to be smaller and they get bigger the more you have . i reckon i might make it to the top of the 7lbs bottom of the 8lbs this time

mods - hope scan went well for you today x

my trousers are starting to get a bit tighter and ive put on 3 or 4 lbs. thought i might not have put any weight on as being sensible but never mind.

tori32 · 27/09/2007 14:34

Hi all just a quicky to say thanks for the TLC! Feeling better today thanks.
I think this time we will still do GF but instead of putting baby in cot for all sleeps, we will put him/her in the pram for short ones. I know what you mean Preggarsagain, my dd now only sleeps in the cot because she is too nosey to sleep when we are out, so its a nightmare when we go out for the day because she gets exhausted.

LOL Skidoodle googling!!

3madboys · 27/09/2007 15:28

wow lots to catch up on

i watched the baby prog too, dp just rolled his eyes at me, as i sat there getting really irrate with that woman and her routine, no cuddling, no eye contact, stick the baby in the garden for three hours. i couldnt do that at all.

we have done a mix of the continuum concept and a bit of dre spock i guess with all ours, not intentionally its just been what felt right

saw the midwife yesterday, dp had the day off so he came along and got to hear the babys heartbeat, 148 beats per min and everything is ok, i am 18wks now and have my scan in a fortnight, think we may well find out the sex tho we are not 100% decided.

hope all is well with mod, and that those of you still feeing sick feel better soon, i gradually stopped feeling sick from about 15/16wks onwards and said to dp yesterday that it was great to not feel pukey, still feel tired etc, but my iron levels were ok, about 12, so hoping to keep them that way, esp as i am booked for a home birth

imjin100 · 27/09/2007 16:13

3madboys thrilled to hear you heard the heartbeat....I'm not far behind you at 16+5 - bit that my midwife didn't want to listen and next appt not for about 6 weeks...also not having my scan until 23 weeks - arghghg - a long wait but will be worth it I know.
happy days, more oat cakes here - doubt anyone wants to share but help yourself if you do...

e14mum · 27/09/2007 16:18

I'll share if you have any cheese or pickle for them!
imjin, I know it's frustrating- they didn't listen for it with me either! Saddo me even had a little recorder in my bag waiting to record it for DH...
Are we EDD twins? I'm 16+5 too.
tori, glad you're having a better day

imjin100 · 27/09/2007 16:28

Have cheese, no pickle but now wishing I had some....blow...
I've obviously got in a muddle on dates - I@m due 1st March....have I missed a week?!?!

PurlyQueen · 27/09/2007 16:41

Hi everyone - I'm feeling a bit blue today because my mum is returning to the Caribbean tomorrow.

She retired out there last year after 40 years service on the NHS and only came back in June to sort out some paperwork.

As my mum and a former midwife and health visitor she's been a real comfort to me so far. She's definitely back in time for the birth and she may return at Christmas, but I'm going to miss her so much

imjin100 · 27/09/2007 16:44

Purlyqueen, extra hugs coming your way - it's a horrible sick making feeling I should imagine...can you think lovely happy positive thoughts, count down the days until she'll return? Anyway - we're here to keep you chirpy.
Take care

e14mum · 27/09/2007 16:50

Hey Purly- big hugs to you! I'm so glad your mom will be back in time for the birth though.
My parents live in Canada, and will probably not come until LO is here. But I still miss my mom more than I can deal with sometimes!

tori32 · 27/09/2007 17:15

LOts of hugs to you, Purleyqueen. Hopefully time will go quickly until she comes back x

monthlymayhem · 27/09/2007 19:09

Hello

Hope everyone's doing ok, and hello to Prisci

I've had a crap day, work over the last couple of weeks has been v stressful - I normally love my job but an ultra demanding and unreasonable client is making me feel like not going into the office in the mornings ... I know stress isn't good for LO so am trying to take a break when I can and relax...easier said than done tho...

Did anyone see the news piece on GMTV this morning about a new study showing strenuous exercise in early pg such as jogging has now been linked to mc? I kept up my running until a couple of weeks ago, and had just managed to convince MIL that it was fine and midwife approved etc, etc, so am waiting for the phone to ring tonight from my MIL to say 'I told you so.."

turtle23 · 27/09/2007 19:14

e14- My parents live in canada too...vancouver. My mum isn't coming until LO is 3 months.

I have been on my own for 13 days now, DH finally returning tomorrow. ave realised that when he left I still had jeans. I now have no clothes from before he left 2 weks ago. I have (in total) gained 15 pounds, 2+ cup sizes, and my bump seems to have appeared yesterday. Think he may run a mile!
The new 17 pound baby is in Russia, it was 17 pounds 1 oz...thank god no dr here would ever let that happen!

frannieinthecity · 27/09/2007 19:17

hi all, hope everyone's doing ok. Imjin i know what you mean about giving up cycling - i found it really hard, having cycled around london for years. But it felt too 'jiggly' and also worried about getting knocked off etc. so have hung up the wheels and taken to walking which is quite meditative and suits my chilled out frame of mind,

i normally travel alot for work and have told my boss that i don't want to anymore (i tend to go to middle eastern countries)do you think that's a bit over the top of me? To be honest it's the thought of heathrow that freaks me out more than damascus or cairo ;-) x

skidoodle · 27/09/2007 19:23

Hi everyone and welcome Prisci

I got the letter this morning about the triple test and found out that the baby is not high risk for DS or SB, so that's good news.

I'm off to London for the weekend tomorrow, so no more work until Tuesday, hurray!

Doing GF (or any routine, I guess) but flexibly makes sense to me. I never thought of how if you were too rigid the child might get to be likewise, but I can see how that could happen. I just know myself too well to think I could be that organised to be that rigid.

TBH I don't really know what I'm talking about because I've never heard anything about no cuddles or leaving babies in the garden alone or anything. The only thing I can imagine doing with this baby is cuddles, although I know there will be other parts too.

Thanks for your description of what overtired means turtle, that makes sense. I had no idea babies could get tired from cuddles, although it makes sense.

I bought bio-oil today. I figure at the very least it will be soothing for my itchiness even if I do get stretch marks (which I don't really care that much about). I also got e45 cream for my legs because of what HQ was saying about dry skin. I shall be nice and moistened from now on.

turtle23 · 27/09/2007 19:25

skidoodle- the triple test...was that something you asked for? I wasn't offered that. When do you have it?

modsaluk · 27/09/2007 19:50

Good evening everyone, so sorry not been in touch before now. All was well at the scan, the twins are still ok. They said the blood was probably old blood and had dislodged due to the fall.

It has all a bit of a whirlwind since my first scan, the shock of the news of twins and then just got over it then the fall and blood.

Anyway pleased to say all is ok.

Not had time to read other postings going to do so now hope everyone is well.

love sally

tori32 · 27/09/2007 21:09

prisci Welcome! Hope you will be able to join us when we meet up in london.

modsaluk Glad to hear allis well with you and the bleeding has abated.

skidoodle Really pleased that you r results came back low risk, fantastic news.
I'm looking like a cross btween a pin cushion and a drug addict with big holes and bruises where they had 3 attempts to take blood yesterday!

3madboys · 27/09/2007 21:12

thats great news mod

turtle the triple test is offered as standard at 16wks unless you have had a nuchal scan, in which case you dont need it, or at least that is what my midwife said.

all of a sudden in the past few days i can really feel the baby moving its great, am getting excited about my twenty week scan now, tho it is hard to believe i am nearly half way

merryberry · 27/09/2007 21:28

the screening tests are pure postcode lottery turtle.

loads of details here

despite the linka bove saying the integrated test is private only, uch are doing it for those those of us older mums on the nhs since just recently.

3madboys · 27/09/2007 21:38

from nest year if you live in norfolk you will be able to get the nuchal scan for free regardless of age, they are saying it is the 'gold standard' of care and it will be offered to all, i had to pay for it as at the moment you are only offered it if you are over 40. in some areas you can get if for free, postcode lottery tho.
