In my experience everything is worth a shot.

kerioke · 13/09/2007 18:44

maybe i'm just mad but i love the night time feeds... both of my boys were really relaxed little ones (so no doubt this one will be a heller!) they fed at 3,7 and 11 around the clock and that 3am feed was our 'special time'...

i would turn on the tv (no volume) for light, change him if needed and sit up in bed taking in his little sleeping face as he suckled... daddy would often lay watching us both, but i used to whisper away to the little man and loved it... it was over and done with from out of basket to me going loo and back in bed within 25 minutes so couldnt complain at all... though i was never keen on that 7am feed and to b honest after a few weeks i would express that one the night before for daddy to do whilst i got up, showered and got ready for the day... that was there time...

oh wow i am looking forward to it all again... and i too am feeling quite xmassy!

though although this is my3rd i am certainly not relaxed at all! i was last time adn had a hell of a labour (wont scare with details as every woman, birth, baby and labour are different!) so this time i refuse to be tricked into relaxing..w ould ratehr plan for the worse, hope for the best and not be dissappointed! lol

and mixedmama - thanks for your support re; weight loss on the other thread.. will hold you to it!

suey2 · 13/09/2007 18:48

can i join your weight loss club too?

OP posts:
mixedmama · 13/09/2007 18:55

definitely i am already plotting how to shed the pounds.

kerioke · 13/09/2007 19:07

ha ha i think we will all be swapping notes and helping each other weight wise one way or another... tot hink we will have spent 7 or 8 months supporting each other as the weight goes on.... wonder if we'll shed it together as quickly?? nice thought!

macdoodle · 13/09/2007 19:40

Me too with weight loss - before I got pregnant when H and split up - I lost nearly 4 stone but have already put almost 2 back on....and my fitness has really slipped struggled with 10 lenghts today in pool used to do 30-40 easy in half hour
Going back to work in June and determined to be almost at pre preg weight by then!

Bouncingturtle · 13/09/2007 20:19

Yep, I'll sign up too!!

Oph keep forgetting, I bought a couple of nice cotton jersey button through night shirts from Matalan, only £6 each. I got size 16/18, was a 16 before being pg and they are nice and roomy.

insywinsyspider · 13/09/2007 20:45

kerioke - am feeling quite xmassy too - think its all the talk for xmas trees and its getting darker, started writing my gift list tonight

mixedmama - I am very lucky I have a fab childminder who lives across the road, her 5 yr old always rushs over to take ds - its like he has an older brother they are lovely together, she's also said she'll be on standby if we need her to look after ds when I'm in labour which is great - I think it helped I didn't go back to work till he was 12mo and was getting over PND and having work really helped focus on something else

MRSskiddale - I'm keeping an open mind about work - I enjoy it so it'll be good if I can find a balance of part time work and enough time at home, at the moment I do 4 days a week and miss ds, our fridays together are bliss

thelady · 14/09/2007 07:37

Oh b%%gger. Come down with a cold. First one since the smoking ban 18 months ago, so I suppose I should be grateful. Grump!

Happy Friday to everyone who gets the weekend off....

MRSskidaddle · 14/09/2007 08:36

Morning all!

Have finally had to give up my cycling as I had to stop to be sick on the way home yesterday and had stomach cramps all night - think it is just my uterus squashing everything else which is worse when cycling but best to stop - got the bus this morning instead and it took for bl**dy ever AND cost me a fortune AND now I can't be all smug about the size of my carbon footprint
All worth it though, I know, I know...

kerioke - I am very impressed at you enjoying the night feeds - I hated them and couldn't get the hang of feeding and lying down until dd stopped needing night feeds. I used to just stare at the clock and will the hands to go round faster (15 mins on one boob, 15 mins on the other, othwise she sould have caried on all night...I still remember...)

Was reading a baby book last night though and read that their little feet are already 5cm long - can you imagine? And if they were born now (28 weeks) they would have an 80% chance of survival - does make it all seem much closer

MRSskidaddle · 14/09/2007 08:37

poor you the lady - go back to bed I say!

suey2 · 14/09/2007 09:07

I admire you for going on this long mrsskidaddle!

mixedmama · 14/09/2007 09:08

Sorry to hear you have a cold thelady and you have the hotel to run so cant really take a break can you.

kerioke - that is quite surreal when you put it like that, about putting it on together and seeing if we can lose it together. I hadnt managed to lose the weight from DS, altho had just started to focus on losing it and lost 7 pounds when i found out I was pregnant, but certainly felt like I had finally found a system (of eating and exercising) that worked for me.

Macdoodle - I am going on holiday in August so I have set myself a target of being a size 12 by then and would like to be down to a 10 by Xmas - I know that is a whole year, but want to start off setting myself targets that are acheivable to start with.

I will note the names and when we are sufficiently post-natal remind you all of this conversation.

mixedmama · 14/09/2007 09:10

insywincy - i have my childcare very much sorted now and will be for the little one aswell and wont be going back to work (hopefully) until September and will have my holiday in between so hoping that I manage much better this time.

MotherofZ · 14/09/2007 09:13

at skiddadle for cycling up to this stage in the pregnancy. Well done!

claraq · 14/09/2007 09:14

Help I can't keep up with you all!!

MrsSkid - yes we did do a party for DD although luckily for me it was a joint party with the little boy across the road (who was - totally coincidentally - born on the same day in the same hospital but me and his mum didn't know each other until I moved here last year!), so I didn't have to worry about the mess....It was chaos but fun - there were about 12 toddlers in total, but they all behaved reasonably well and no major tantrums. DD asked to go home about 5 minutes of arriving mind you.

By the way I am very impressed with you riding a bike up until now!! And I wouldn't worry too much about your carbon footprint if you are now taking the bus instead. It's good that people use public transport as that encourages the government to provide more of it rather than building more roads!

All this talk about breastfeeding and night feeds has started to bring it all back. Help what have I done!

MotherofZ · 14/09/2007 09:15

talking about BF - is it let the baby have the milk from one breast or are you supposed to switch half way? The guidelines keep changing!!!

claraq · 14/09/2007 09:16

Love the idea (whoever it was!) of a homebirth by Christmas tree lights. Wouldn't that be fantastic (well on paper....)

mixedmama · 14/09/2007 09:17

The cycling is certainly commendable. Lucky if I ever cycle at any stage in my life never mind when pregnant - far too lazy.

MRSskidaddle · 14/09/2007 10:04

thank you all, feel a bit better now. Don't be too impressed by the cycling though - it's just the quickest way to get me into work!

Glad your dd's party went well claraq - I absolutely HATE toddlers' parties - OK for ten mins but after an hour of squealing in a confined space my head starts to explode..

MotherofZ - last thing I was told by my health visitor (about a year ago so could well have changed) was that it was a good idea to swap sides regularly. But I used to just follow dd's lead really - if she was flagging I would swap sides, if she seemed happy I'd leave her where she was - I'm sure someone else has a better idea than me though

mixedmama · 14/09/2007 10:09

I was the same.... (for the little time I did BF) just let DS go until he had finished then offer the other side and if he took he took.

Going to put so much more effort into it this time, am determined to keep going for at least 3 months (i know that is menial in comparison to the recommended amount of time and the length of time others do it for) but one step at a time.

MRSskidaddle · 14/09/2007 10:13

MM I think that is the way to go - make your goals reasonable and then you will (rightly) feel proud when you achieve them. A friend of mine told me that if you can get past the 3 month mark you can go on forever and i think that is true - it is so so hard to begin with but gets easier and easier and by the time they are on solids is a piece of p*ss (excuse all my swearing today, don't know what's got into me...)

mixedmama · 14/09/2007 10:23

My ultimate aim is 6 months. i managed 4 weeks last time but that was mixed and expressing.... I have thrown all my bottles away and not going to buy any other than the one I have for expressing and goign to not buy any so i have no other option.

MotherofZ · 14/09/2007 10:39

I manged about 3 weeks of mixed (expressing and formula), but I had mastitis which made my breasts feel like they were on fire, hence I gave up.

For me, if I make shorter goals it will feel like the time frame more realistic, so my first aim is going to be one month, then increase as I go along.

mixedmama · 14/09/2007 10:44

when the time comes I think my goals will be more like making it till the end of the week. but if i get three months i will be suitably pleased.
