For dd1 I wore a t-shirt and for dd2 I wore nothing - I was in the birthing pool. TBH by that stage, trust me, you really won't care! The midwives will have fingers up bits that only your dh goes and it will hurt, you'll be hot!!!!!

I would plan on wearing a t-shirt or something like that - maybe that is easy to bf in post birth.

Oh god - I am wondering if it is too late for an elective cs - ha ha! espeically reading that 999 call in the Gardian (did anyone else read it - a link was posted on some thread or other) -oh god it is going to hurt!

Speaking of hurting - my back aches after picking up rotting apples in the garden and vachumming 2 rooms.

claraq · 16/09/2007 21:05

OHHH Ambi Vanilla Vodka and Lemon Gin sounds nice. Funny I have gone off alcohol since being pregnant but something about the sound of those two has brought on a bit of a thirst....

Thanks for the tips on birthing wear. I had not thought of the BF afterwards. I think I still have a couple of Matalan nighties that I bought when I did not know I was going to have a c-section last time. They button up the front and are huge so should be just the thing.

Bouncingturtle · 16/09/2007 21:25

Hello, hope you all had a good weekend!
Yes I too have had vivid dreams, apparently it is quite common!

cazzybabs · 16/09/2007 22:03

I wish I had gone of alchol!

I have booked tickets to see Father Xmas in the UK lapland! I must be mad! AS Dh pointed out I am bound to still be bleeding everywhere, have to cope with a newborn and no sleep. IT is a good 2hr drive from our house for 4 hours of over excited small children, vast expense and general post birth hastle. Plus I had to go for peak time as god knows when sprog will arrive (it had better be late!)And we will have to have a new car by then!!!!!!

cazzybabs · 16/09/2007 22:04

BTW the reason I need it to be late is so dh will still be on his paternity leave. Plus I have gone for peak expensive time on the grounds that I will have definatly had it by then!!!!

bambino1andbump · 16/09/2007 23:17

MotherofZ · 17/09/2007 08:18

Morning all!
Hope you had a good weekend.

I wore DH old t-shirt during labour (long enough to cover up with) and after that M/Ws said they would watch the baby while I had a quick shower and then I changed into a better pair of PJs.

insywinsyspider · 17/09/2007 08:23

Morning - having a horrible day already - anyone else hating having to go to work and leave lo? it comes and goes, a think I posted last week how I've enjoyed coming back to work since ds was 1yr but today I'm struggling, we were up at 2 and 4am with him (not sure why but think its teeth) and then he was still asleep when I left at 7am and dh asked me not to wake him up so he could shower and get things ready before getting him up for breakfast - cried all way here, think i'm tired and hormonal! but 4 days a week is getting too much - my company maternity pay (top up from smp) is based on my last pay packet and I knew I was pg before I came back to work so we went for the short term pain long term gain strategy but its much harder than I thought... anyone around for virtual tea and chat, been here since 7.30am and can't concentrate on anything

Loucee · 17/09/2007 09:24

Oh Insy, sorry you're upset today. I know exactly what you mean about leaving the LO whilst you go to work and it is REALLY difficult to concentrate. When are you starting your mat leave?

mixedmama · 17/09/2007 09:41

Insywincy - so know the feeling of not wanting to leave and go back to work, might just be hormones going into overdrive. Do you have any holiday? You could perhaps split them over next few weeks so you get every Thursday off until maternity leave IYSWIM. I think you said you have Fridays off, so that would make a nice long weekend.

That SPD description sounds quite familiar, i get a lot of pain when in bed mainly or sitting down. In bed is the worse i actually wake up everytime i turn over as it is like my bottom half is not connected to my bottom half. Trying to stay positive about it though as reading NBG saying about crutches and belts makes me feel quite ridiculous for entertaining the idea that it is more than preg pains.

I wore nothing in labour for some time as I was in the pool then wore a hospital gown, not sure why that was as I had a big eyeore nightdress in my bag.

mixedmama · 17/09/2007 09:58

Cazzybabs - i saw that lapland thread. looks amazing. i really wanted to do it but it is a little expensive for me this year, but hopefully it will become a regular thing.

I also have weird dreams and most of the time they are really distressing, verging on nightmares.

MotherofZ · 17/09/2007 10:02

Hi insy
Know the feeling - tiredness, missing LO and having to put up with work on top of that.

Why don't you phone LO this morning and find out how he is doing? It might make you feel better. When I am at work and missing DD terrible I look at her pictures on my mobile phone and it cheers me up. Perhaphs taking some AL from work might help?

MotherofZ · 17/09/2007 10:02

terible = terribly

insywinsyspider · 17/09/2007 10:19

Thanks guys - I think it is just homones in overdrive, I have 4 days holiday left and 11 weeks, including this one, till maternity leave starts (week 38 - decided to go up to end so can have xmas off next year and - if I come back - it'll be Jan 2009) I've been holding onto holiday in case ds was sick but so far he's been fine, I'm already taking Wednesday as a half day in November to do antenatal classes so will have a few more hours with ds... hoping its just a bad day

cazzybabes - tell me about lapland, really want to do that with ds but guess its better when they are a little older - how old are your lo's? am saving for it now for an amazing holiday in the future

mixedmama · 17/09/2007 10:29

I told hubby about Lapland and altho i would like to try to go next year we are thinking of maybe saving and going for real when kids are old enough.

Bouncingturtle · 17/09/2007 10:46

Insy, sorry you are feeling down
Hope you didn't hear the radio ad that I heard this morning it made me and would have upset you more!!
Hope you are feeling a little better now.

insywinsyspider · 17/09/2007 11:11

turtle - intriged now - what was the ad? am actually doing better - I work with a lovely bloke whos taken me for coffee (he lives 4 doors away and his wife is about 11 weeks pg so I think he's getting in practise for emotional hormonal women!) also occupational health have brought me a new chair so hoping the back ache will get better

mixedmama · 17/09/2007 11:13

Your work sounds great, it is nice to have support in that environment isnt it.

insywinsyspider · 17/09/2007 11:48

its a bit variable some supportive some not and I've been asking for the chair for 6 weeks but most of the time its great
would just rather be playing with ds - wish my numbers would come up on premium bonds, used to play the lottery but keep forgetting to get ticket!

Neuro · 17/09/2007 12:53

Afternoon all!

I just had meeting with boss and accounts lady to discuss my leaving date. ROLL ON 5TH DEC!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I didn't have to say when i was coming back to work, just that by law i have to give my boss 2 months notice. I think he wants the notice more than me as the company is changing and by the time i have to come back (after 9 months off) the position will probably have to be a full time one, which means if i don't want to come back here (quite likely) then i can leave on really good terms as i don't want a full time job.

So only 36 actual working day til i leave! Well, 35 if i exclude today....and not back until 22nd September - ages away. Brilliant.

I AM SO HAPPY!

i've had a strange weekend though of awful backpain (and wearing a special sacroliac corset thingy) and tons of nightmares about me and baby being attacked. My mum said it's just my subconscious thinking about being totally responsible for a small defenceless person.

BRING IT ON .

Oh and over the weekend i decided i'd quite like a more rural life, so going to look into living somehwere a bit more countrified next year so i can do some horsey stuff once a week.

Having a baby in terms of plans for the future has been a great career mov

Neuro · 17/09/2007 12:56

Correction - I DO have to say when I intend to return, but if i want to change that date then i only have to give 28 days notice.

Everything seems suddenly like it's all happening now...

vnmum · 17/09/2007 13:05

i dont know if anyone has suggested this already as havent read the whole thread but if you have stitches or are bruised down below use a slim panty liner/sanitary pad, pour a mixture of diluted arnica tincture/liquid on it and place in freezer. its very soothing for stitches and the arnica helps with bruising etc. i didnt know about this until i was given them to use in hospital in germany after i had an episiotomy. you can buy special peripads but only from USA. i am going to have some in my freezer ready for this time around.

also the femmepad from mothercare is quite good

suey2 · 17/09/2007 13:12

I ahve just downloaded the form for maternity allowance. Good god! 20 pages! good luck other self employed people out there!

OP posts:
Neuro · 17/09/2007 13:25

Good luck Suey! Eeeeeeek. Do you get the same as SMP though? (I know you have your own business and it's different).

mixedmama · 17/09/2007 13:37

I downloading my forms the other day altho have not even looked at them yet.

Neuro - sounds like you are getting a great perspective on things.

I have just been to Superdrug to get some bits and pieces for my hospital bag - read a thread this morning that has inspired me to get my bag ready at 25 weeks

Got maternity pads for 99p a pack 10 in each pack. Bought 3, but sadly they didnt have anymore on the shelf.... but will be popping back.
