Graduate thread for all the amazing ladies who have endured infertility and are hopefully now starting a new chapter🤞

@Littlelot @Viletta @candycornlover @FlapJackered @Wimbledon1

I got my BFP on Tuesday the 28th and am feeling pretty symptom free today (so obviously panicking that it's all going wrong! 😣). 7 week scan due to be Tuesday the 18th and it feels like a long way away with symptoms going awol! 😥 POAS this morning and it looks spot on for where I should be, so trying to take some comfort from that 🤞🤞🤞

Called clinic and they recommended going in for a blood test so did that today then went straight back to school or I'd have just dwelled on it. They said they'll call me tomorrow morning to let me know the results. Only 5+2 so incredibly early days still I know. The clinic said as I'm drinking more than normal that could have effected the result even though I hadn't drunk or weed since the night before. They also recommended using a digital test rather than a line one (I have done a digital before but didn't have a spare one of those to hand today). Haven't had anymore bad pains or bleeding today so taking it as a good sign and hope that today was just me worrying about nothing.

@Chooklass that's so good that you saw the heartbeat. So pleased for you that the success rate has gone up so much 😊

lls1990 · 26/02/2020 17:25

Clinic just called. Levels are at 25.1 so the consultant wants me to go back and repeat the blood test on Monday at 9am. Trying to get an average of what's normal and my levels do sound very low 😕

DobbieFreeElf · 26/02/2020 17:36

@lls1990 hcg varies widely in every woman for every pregnancy, there’s a table on here to show the range by week: www.healthline.com/health/pregnancy/low-hcg#what's-normal?

Wimbledon1 · 26/02/2020 20:07

Hello, well that was weird. My phone hasn't let me into MN for 24 hours. Just kept getting the wheel of doom...

Anyway, exciting day @Chooklass, congratulations!! Hope you loved seeing your little bean. Does it all feel more real? 🎉

Sorry to hear things are a bit stressful @lls1990 though. If you have no cramping or bleeding I wouldn't panic. I did so a few weeks ago when I should have got a 3+ on a Digi test and didn't. And other than worrying the life out of me it didn't help (though no, it says in many online sources that worrying and stress 100% definitely doesn't cause miscarriages). As others have said, those levels could be fine for you, as long as they are going up, so that will be all they want to check on Monday. Keep smiling if you can.

@FlapJackered I would defo stick to your guns on the SIL. As much as anything, you can enjoy the next four weeks without the hen-pecking starting can't you. The longer you don't have to speak to her the better; by the sounds of her!

I know this was last night's conversation, but @Littlelot I'm glad you mentioned coronavirus as I was worried about this too but didn't want to mention it as I feel like the voice of doom with this thread!! But I have a bit to do with this at work and continegency planning is now on the basis of when it starts spreading across the UK, not if. So it's a bit of a worry, but my googling suggests you can't pass it to the baby if you catch it. So it's just a case of looking after yourself so you aren't too unwell. So, lots of time of work if the worst happened!

@DobbieFreeElf, lovely to get your 3+. But sorry to hear the little one is being a turd, that made me laugh!! You all prepped for another of those?!

Viletta · 26/02/2020 20:51

@DobbieFreeElf 2h won't make much difference. I was late almost 3h on mine yesterday although normally I'm not.

@lls1990 hopefully it's a late implanted for you. Are you planning to home test before Monday? Take care of yourself

lls1990 · 26/02/2020 21:24

I was planning on doing one at the weekend but now going to wait until Monday.

Just had a weird thing, ate dinner and immediately after (literally as I finished last mouthful) I started getting agonising cramps which I thought felt like gas (apologises for TMI!) Then felt like I had to be on the loo, rushed there, nothing but then started shivering but getting hot, eyes started to fill with black dots so I laid down as not to faint but then was very badly sick, brought up my entire dinner! I hope it's just a coincidence it happened today and nothing else

Littlelot · 26/02/2020 22:24

@FlapJackered just to echo everyone else I’d tell your delightful SIL when you want and on your terms. Glad you have your sister to enjoy the pregnancy with though!

@Wimbledon1 that’s reassuring to know about not passing it on to baby. Our school was very quiet and sombre today missing lots of staff and kids.

@rainbow178 good to know that I’m not the only one sneaking snacks between lessons. I’m dreading the end of pregnancy and have to last 2hrs between toilet breaks 😬.

@Chooklass congratulations on a perfect scan!!!!

@IIs 1990 that does sound weird. Hope you’re okay now. Fingers crossed for rising levels on Monday. You’d think after all the waiting we’ve done to get this far it would get easier but I know it doesn’t. Hope you e got some things to distract you and make the time pass until then. Xxx

lls1990 · 27/02/2020 06:46

Had a very bad stomach over night on the loo, spoke to clinic on out of hours number as wanted advice about whether to go to school or not, apparently diarrhea isn't a common symptom so they think it's more likely just a bug I've picked up (only been back around the kids/mighty germ spreaders for 3 days!) So taking today off to see how I go. Feel much better now it's all out of my system! Just hoping it doesn't affect anything else going on in there

FlapJackered · 27/02/2020 07:04

Thanks @Littlelot @BambiOnIce80 @Wimbledon1 @Minster2012 @Lily999 for your wise words! You have definitely given me the confidence we are doing the right thing by waiting, now I can just relax and stop worrying about it for a few weeks!

@lls1990 poor you, a bug is the last thing you need. I think it is good you are able to take a day off and take it easy. Watch some good tv and put your feet up x

@DobbieFreeElf don't worry about the progesterone, I started off timing it so carefully but now my timing is all over the shop! I think as long as you take the right dose per day all is good.

@Chooklass that is fantastic news about your scan, great to see everything as it should be! It's a huge relief to see the little heartbeat flicking away isn't it.

@Lily999 it is such a long wait to 12 weeks isn't it! I am so tempted to get another scan in between but equally I don't want to go crazy with the scanning either, or cause unnecessary stress. Tricky one!

How is everyone's diet going? I have not been very good with the healthy eating since I had my bug (or whatever it was). A lot of crisps, cheese and pasta has been consumed! I think I need to start planning meals so I get more veg in. 🥦🥕🥬

DobbieFreeElf · 27/02/2020 07:39

@FlapJackered I’m just so hungry all the time, but it had to be something I really want. I rejected the Mediterranean fish stew my OH cooked a couple of days ago, I didn’t really fancy it... 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve got a bit of a dietary predicament, I’m off to a wedding in 6 weeks (before 12 weeks) and I’ve already made my menu choices: smoked salmon with prawns & venison (which I assume will be on the rare side!) so I need to ask to change my menu. The bride was the hen from the other weekend and she was fine with the “I’m not drinking because we’re starting ivf” and didn’t ask any more questions so I’m not too worried about her thinking about why it’s but the only other starter choice is a Brie filled filo tart 🤔 so what are we thinking on cooked Brie?! I avoided any unpasteurised/ mould ripened cheese in my pregnancy with DS.

I’ve also organised a dinner party for my mother in laws big birthday in April and all 3 starter choices (which I chose) are not pregnancy friendly 🤦🏻‍♀️ Whoops!

BambiOnIce80 · 27/02/2020 07:59

With Covid19, I definitely think it's a case of when and not if it spreads too @Wimbledon1 😷 I think we've just got to try and remember that the people who are dying from it are either elderly or have chronic/multiple health problems going on - we'll hopefully be OK 🤞

Really sorry that you've got a bug @lls1990 💐 Definitely get your feet up and relax as much as you can.x

I seem to have started the Seefood diet @FlapJackered... I see food and I eat it! 😳 My stomach was grumbling this morning as I was about to leave and DP said "are you hungry already? 🤨" and I said "I'm always bloody hungry at the moment! 😭 And I'm not supposed to need any extra calories until the next trimester, so whywhywhywhy do I want to eat all the food?! 😩" to which he replies "you're carrying my child darling, so it's 50% greedy Italian and it's not going to follow the rules!" 😂🇮🇹🤣 Which, incidentally, is apparently why Covid19 is spreading so rampantly over there - they just won't follow the quarentine rules! 🤦‍♀️Not even the police! 🙄 They've had to get the military police in to enforce it! 😕

@DobbieFreeElf could you just have a quiet word with one of the staff at the venue when you get there and ask for your venison to be well done because you are pregnant (a travesty, I know, but better not to chance undercooked meat!)? We've got our anniversary dinner next week, which I booked before a BFP was on the horizon. It's a 8 course tasting menu with paired wine 🍷 🤦‍♀️ Think I'm going to have to email the nice restaurant people and ask them if it can be made pregnancy friendly for me 😞 Does anyone else feel mega awkward telling restaurants that they can't have x, y and z now? When we were away the other weekend the waitress looked at me very strangely when I said I'd have to have their lovely, free range eggs hard boiled because they didn't have the red lion mark 🐔🦁🥚😳

FlapJackered · 27/02/2020 08:38

@DobbieFreeElf 😂 what starters did you choose?
I think Brie and all those stinky cheeses are fine if they have been cooked which they will have in a tart. Otherwise I second Bambi and just have a quite word with the caterers.

@BambiOnIce80 😂😂 i love your OHs reasoning! I am the same, ravenous constantly!!

Viletta · 27/02/2020 09:02

I eat a lot but what worries me I really can't stand any meat or chicken at the moment, it smells really fowl and taste awful for me at the moment. I can tolerate fish and eggs in tiny portions. Weird as I though I need protein, why my body is rejecting it. Even pulses and lentils make me a bit 🤢 I eat tons of yogurt though, maybe that's enough..

MrsLouB · 27/02/2020 09:08

Hey all great to hear all doing well @chooklass scan pic is amazing xxx

@Lily999 try not to worry to much and i am sure it will all be fine as uve said no bleeding etc xxx

Im back in for my last scan tomorrow the bleeding has eased since wednesday and is back to spotting and my Hcg is still high but that unfortunately for me just gives me false hope. I havent even told dh about the bleeding or hcg as i dont want to give him false hope xx

GoldenCloud · 27/02/2020 09:44

Hi all, been offline for a few days and just catching up on all the messages. I've been to Italy last weekend and decided it would be wise to work from home this week and perhaps next week. Fortunately I can! Don't think I caught the virus but better safe than sorry right 😷🦠 Also DH is forced to work from home for 14 days.

I have my fingers crossed for you @MrsLouB 🤞🏼

Congrats on the good news @Chooklass !!

I have my first scan on Monday evening 2nd March. Looking forward seeing little baby and a heartbeat, but I'm slowly getting a bit nervous too. What if something's wrong... I've never been this far with a pregnancy so I'm hoping this time all is ok! I'll be 6 weeks +6 on Monday 😍

I've been really tired the last 3 days, plus I think I'm slowly getting some morning sickness. This morning after my shower I started getting really nauseous, hot and shaky, so I ran to the cupboard to get some crackers. After I ate them I felt quite ok again. Let's see what happens the next days.

By the way, are some of you taking baby aspirin? I'm taking a small dose daily, prescribed by my GC due to my previous 2 MC. Does anyone know if the baby aspirin can negatively affect the baby?

DobbieFreeElf · 27/02/2020 09:57

@FlapJackered a blue cheese souffle, crab salad and duck terrine... I wasn't thinking ahead!

@BambiOnIce80 I think I'll just change my main for the wedding and I think I'll have the tart, should be fine!

I also went to a nice cafe for breakfast the other day and asked if their eggs have lions stamped on them, the girl looked at me like I asked if it had been laid by a golden goose then brought me an egg (no lion stamp) so I had a sausage sandwich! And then at dinner last week I asked the guy if their mayo was made fresh or out of a jar and he said very proudly it was fresh so I had to decline, he looked personally offended that I didn't want their lovely fresh mayo!

@Viletta with my DS I went through a period where all I wanted for breakfast was salt and vinegar hola hoops, s&v being my least favourite flavour! DS favourite is now s&v hola hoops... coincidence?!

Good luck with your scan @GoldenCloud, baby aspirin should be fine but maybe phone and check when and if you should stop taking it?

BambiOnIce80 · 27/02/2020 10:30

If the blue cheese soufflé is cooked through until piping hot, it should be OK shouldn't it @DobbieFreeElf? The crab should be OK too:

My boss made me have a mini freak out this morning 😰 I was merrily troughing my black pudding roll when he says "surely you can't have that? It must be full of vitamin A 🤨", which short circuited my brain entirely and sent me into a panic! 😩 I'd already checked if black pudding was safe to eat and it is - it's even recommended as a good source of iron when pregnant! But him saying that had me running to Google to double check - so relieved when it (once again 🙄) said it was safe 😪

Not long for you to wait now @GoldenCloud - very exciting! 🤩 Were you in the north of Italy or are you just self isolating to be 'better safe than sorry' kind of thing?x

Keeping everything crossed for you for your scan tomorrow @MrsLouB 🤞🍀

I'm glad it's not just me that's now ravenous @FlapJackered! 😋😉

OP posts:
GoldenCloud · 27/02/2020 11:24

@BambiOnIce80 I was indeed in the north of Italy 😳 Near the Como Lake, north of Milan... But I've been pretty careful for a while now and using lots of hand sanitiser + not staying too close to people. So far no symptoms of any virus yet, fingers crossed it will remain this way! I'm worried that if I get it it will somehow affect little baby, but so far I've read it doesn't pass to the baby which is a relief...

Viletta · 27/02/2020 11:30

@GoldenCloud I take regular aspirin as I also take estrogen for my FET. I think the benefits overtake the risks, also not heard about problems with aspirin for the baby. They suggested I stop all meds on week 10. What about you?

@BambiOnIce80 I heard the risk of vitamin a is that it causes muscle tension, I think a little amount that there might be in carrots or other things should be fine. Glad that the black pudding has been once again cleared of all suspicions 😊 funny how people comment on what you eat when you are preggers

Viletta · 27/02/2020 11:33

@Littlelot how was your midwifery appointment today?

BambiOnIce80 · 27/02/2020 11:44

Crikey @GoldenCloud, definitely best to be on the safe side then! 🦠😷 Long may you be free of symptoms! 🤞 Did you have a nice time, at least?! We nearly booked Umbria for my birthday in a couple of months time - quite relieved we went for a cottage near the lake district now! 🏡

It is crazy how other people who I've had to tell early are sticking their noses in @Viletta! 🤥😏 I think you're absolutely right that 'normal' levels of vit A are fine (important, even!), but high levels (like if you eat lots of liver or take fish liver oil supplements) are proven to cause birth defects - thus me freaking out when my boss stuck his nose into my black pudding roll consumption! 😏

OP posts:
Minster2012 · 27/02/2020 13:11

Ha ha ha we are all having the same thoughts with food at restaurants and stuff then...I did the same with mayo the other day asking if it was homemade & they said no unfortunately not & thought my reaction “oh perfect” was a bit weird😂

@DobbieFreeElf I’d def just change your main though honestly I think a bit of pink venison will be fine Cos cooking for a wedding is so hard it will prob not be that underdone anyway!

Makes me mad analysing everything then DSil for both baby 1 & now pregnant with 2 literally ate (& eats) anything & everything & didn’t care- pate, raw meat, all cheeses, even oysters, drank wine & guiness throughout & course everything is fine, her view (out loud) is “if we miscarry we can have another it’s not hard for us” Her choice but still. & SERIOUSLY ???!!!

I went to lake como for my 30th @GoldenCloud & it’s my fave holiday ever 🥰

Bad today (not pregnancy wise but life wise!) not getting better do treating myself to a bath when DS asleep as we got covered in mud so bath was necessary 🤣

@BambiOnIce80 a black pudding roll? Didn’t you have haggis rolls too?! I’ve never heard of these!! Amazing! & tell your colleagues to get their oar out!!

Minster2012 · 27/02/2020 13:11

Ps, I also want to know what your dinner party starters are @DobbieFreeElf!!

Chooklass · 27/02/2020 14:46

@Minster2012 you should visit Scotland -you can get pretty much anything in a roll, pie or battered 😋. I am a massive fan of macaroni pies, which I believe are rare south of the border, and I recently discovered a bakery doing lasagne pies 😍. All part of a balanced diet obvs 😉

Viletta · 27/02/2020 14:58

@Minster2012 I had a colleague with similar attitude she though placenta will filter all the bad stuff for her. Tbh it's their choice. I also think what people say to other people and what they actually do can be two different things.

@Chooklass love that you can get everything in a roll form! I'm not a massive meat eater but I loved huggis:)
