36 weeks does seem quite late, but I would guess that’s because there are so many things that could happen up until that point that might effect a birth plan such as baby’s position, GD, pre-eclampsia etc.
But I do think they should at least discuss options with you prior to that just so you know what options you have and then you have time to think about what you want.

The NHS have a birth plan template on their website here.

Rinoa · 04/03/2020 08:08

Anyone with PFG considering water birth? Heard it's a better option if you're suffering from it.

We've booked in for the nhs antenatal class a while ago! We're booked in for early April.

peetieswie · 04/03/2020 09:34

I'd like to look into water births more as I like the idea. Not looked into anything birth much so far 😬 I'm hoping the NCT course will help with all that.

Definitely wouldn't have a big renovation project at this point. We're getting small things done like fitted wardrobes and maybe kitchen floor but I'm at work anyway so won't affect me much. I think he's being unreasonable as it's so stressful having people in your house all the time. On a similar note, we've also just bought some of the neighbours garden and had to transfer thousands to the solicitor which was sad saying goodbye to that much money but can't wait for a bigger garden for the little one to roam around in! Sheds and fences are so expensive though! 😩

My mum is going to Japan next week. She's 72 but pretty healthy but I'm nervous for her going (stopping in Hong Kong on the way) and then nervous for when she gets back in case she's contagious!

mrssunshinexxx · 04/03/2020 11:40

I am planning on a water birth and using hypnobirthing too

Water birth class next Friday at hospital and start private hypnobirthing on Saturday at our home really excited

chocolate26 · 04/03/2020 14:30

Thanks everyone, me and DH spoke again and he understands my reasons to not wanting the kitchen done at the moment so that's calmed me down. He was also very attentive last night and went out to get me dinner, hopefully having the conversation about things has helped make him realise.

I am hoping to have a water birth, I find being in warm water comforting when I have back ache or period pain so I'm hoping the water will help with labour pains. Does anyone know how warm the water is in the birthing pool? I know that we can't have too hot baths when pregnant but I don't think I would like the birthing pool if it was lukewarm.

Has anyone had strange pains in their groin area? I started getting pain in my right groin last night and it's really painful whenever I get up or walk today. I have spoken to midwife who is sure it's ligament pain which it does sound like but it's very uncomfortable and constant when I'm up and about.

mrssunshinexxx · 04/03/2020 14:42

@chocolate26 that's reassuring.
I will let you know after I've done my course next week I have heard it's quite warm though and they are always topping it up but you will be sweating and we are due in June so maybe the water being a little cooler might be nicer

umabb · 04/03/2020 15:00

I'm really nervous that tomorrow I'll have to get in to the office for a meeting - that packed train and underground! They give me creeps. And that new number - increased by 34 cases in a day! Is it the start of the exponential increase / the outbreak!? Maybe I should work half day from home and travel in off peak hours??
I feel like a wimp - I shouldn't need to be so scared as morality rate is so low. I just can't bear the thoughts if anything happened and it would hurt my baby... Sad

I'm also thinking I'd like a water birth, but don't know much about it yet.

As for Coronavirus, I heard today that schools in Dubai are closing for 4 weeks to try to slow/contain the spread. This seems pretty drastic, but then again maybe it will pay off? I'm in an area of the UK with no cases (yet), so life is continuing as normal. Haven't heard much about advice for pregnant women. @umabb Chances are you'll be fine on public transport, but go with what you're most comfortable with. Avoiding peak times seems sensible if you can. Some work places are encouraging video conferences from home.

Bump feels sore today and have had lots of stretching pains on left side, so taking it easy on the sofa tonight.

umabb · 04/03/2020 17:55

@SearchingTheSkies thanks yes I've just spoken to my managers and they said I shouldn't be traveling at peak hours. They've also approved for me to work from home for next few weeks while the company is planning for all staff to work in bcp site and wfh too. The husband's company are asking pregnant women employees to start wfh from tomorrow as well.

@umabb don’t worry too much about the sudden increase in numbers. It’s scary at first but it just means that they are testing and finding it which is good! Don’t trust the countries who say they have few to no cases... the more the U.K. tests and confirms and isolates early on the smaller the spread will be eventually. That’s great you’re able to work from home though!

@SearchingTheSkies schools here in Korea are also closed until at least the 23rd and I’m grateful because my husband is a teacher and I hate to think how quickly it would spread among students. Schools were already closed for most of jan and feb for the winter and spring holidays which helped. My husband is getting cabin fever though...

Anyone else suffering from vertigo? It’s mostly when I lie down on my left side or move my head back so I don’t know if it’s pregnancy hormone related or an inner ear thing caused by my sinus infection last week.

RPPs · 05/03/2020 11:39

I work from home but the problem is with the nonstop rain, I literally never leave the house. But have encouraged my husvand to get hand sanitizer so he doesn't bring the Corona home to me.

@searchingTheSkies I was crippled with a stitch on my right side yesterday. Couldn't stand to make dinner. It started to come back today and I had a bath, which Bambino loved and it seems to have done the trick.

Busylizzie85 · 05/03/2020 12:50

I have had really bad sciatica for a few days now it’s so painful, partnered with not a lot of movement from little miss last two days! ☹️
Spoken to the midwife who does not seem to worried as I have had some movement just not a lot! 🤷🏻‍♀️

umabb · 05/03/2020 13:46

A quite dramatic development today for me. @UKtoSK I planned to get in after 10 so still worked the morning hours at home. My colleague then told me on the phone that a case confirmed in our office building (two floors below ours) so not to come in at all... That floor is now sealed off and being deep cleaned and people are sent back home and other floors are told that office will remain open but people can choose wfh.
So I'll be home I guess until who knows when that things hopefully eventually get better...

@UKtoSK suddenly today I started feeling dizzy just when I was pottering around in the kitchen. Not sure what the cause was but I just had to sit down and wait for it to pass. Now hoping baby will start moving/kicking as I always automatically worry there is something wrong and I haven’t felt her as much today - but I don’t know if that’s because I was busy playing with my 9 month old nephew

24+1

Magpiefeather · 05/03/2020 18:58

I’m hoping for a water birth too. I wanted one with my DD but in the end couldn’t have one for various reasons. All will hopefully go my way this time as I think I’d find it hugely helpful.

I’ve been having awful groin pains at times too - I need to ring the physio for an appointment just keep forgetting. I’ll be fine for ages then get a searing awful gasp inducing pain - not sure if it’s sciatia or PGP or what. Midwife said it won’t necessarily get worse which is a comfort, but she also said I should be careful what I lift, not to stand on one leg, swivel to get out of the car rather than step sideways with one leg... basically be mindful of keeping hips square which I am not being. Easier said than done! Plus I can’t get away from lifting almost 3 year old DD sometimes.

chocolate26 · 05/03/2020 19:40

For those of you who are feeling dizzy and lightheaded I've had this for about 4 weeks now and my reasons for it are low blood pressure and I was also aneamic! Everything with baby has been fine so try not to worry. If the dizziness continues it might be worth speaking to a doctor and asking for your iron levels to be taken.

I have had quite bad groin pains for a few days now aswell. It's not bad when I'm sitting down but as soon as I get up it really hurts! It's mostly on my right side. I spoke to my midwife and she said it's normal at this stage to have bad ligament pains so that was reassuring.

Busylizzie85 · 05/03/2020 19:59

Good to know I’m not the only one suffering from the pain! I find it worse after walking to and from work and it’s only on my right side too! I’ll definitely take note in the getting out of the car info and being more careful what I am doing generally thanks @Magpiefeather

Gigitree · 05/03/2020 20:10

@chocolate26 thank you that’s good to hear about the dizziness, although I’m sorry to hear you’ve been suffering with it for so long.
Hoping it’s a one off but I have my 24 week appt with my midwife tomorrow so will just mention it to her then.

peetieswie · 05/03/2020 21:29

Got really bad hip pain today. It's been really helpful and reassuring reading that others have had it too and the advice on it. I can barely walk this evening but seems fine when I stand still or sit down. Gonna have to do sit down teaching tomorrow if it stays the same!

UKtoSK · 05/03/2020 22:13

@umabb that’s lucky you got the call before heading in!

@Gigitree sorry you’ve had some dizziness too, how are you feeling now? Did baby start moving more? My baby girl always has active days and quiet days but she always seems to go quiet at the exact time to make me worry most!

@chocolate26 I’ve been thinking about getting my iron levels checked if it continues, since I’ve been anaemic on and off my whole life, but this kind of dizziness is new to me. Not the fuzzy grey spots when standing up but the whole room spinning when I lie down. I have had fairly low blood pressure all pregnancy too. I’ll definitely get it checked if it continues. Did they give you extra iron supplements? Is yours getting better now?

APD1981 · 06/03/2020 06:36

@umabb that's quite scary. Thank goodness you weren't planning on going in til later!

I've been getting aches and pains, too. Nothing horrendous but sometimes when I walk I get a pulling pain on the left or right bottom side of my bump. The only way it stops is by bending over or sitting down. I think it's a growing pain as it feels like pulling but it's horrible all the same!

Rinoa · 06/03/2020 07:52

Turns out work is being a pain about working from home. I really can't understand why when the majority of my role can be done remotely . Been trying for a week and have a meeting today. I'll take early mat leave if needed, London now has the highest cases in UK. They may think I'm nuts but baby's health is my priority.

Rinoa · 06/03/2020 07:54

My midwife doesn't seem very helpful. I told her I'm having bad pfg and just said it happens. It was only until I kept asking if anything can be done she said she'll refer me to physio. No tips or tricks on pain management 😒 thank goodness for the internet

APD1981 · 06/03/2020 07:56

@Rinoa I wish the govt would give some specific advice for pregnant women. We might have more of a chance with employers, then. Being a teacher I have no choice but to go to work but thankfully I'm part time so I can, at least, have periods of time I'm not there. Doesn't help FT pregnant teachers though!

I'm contemplating early mat leave because they've announced redundancies at work and I'd be more protected if I were on mat leave. I'm sort of watching this space and I'll go if I feel I need to.

Just do what you think is best. The chance of any of us getting it is still really, really low, but the stress of worrying about it isn't good either!

chocolate26 · 06/03/2020 09:29

@UKtoSK yes they gave me iron tablets that I take twice a day, I take them with food otherwise they make me feel a bit sick. They have definitely helped! I was so dizzy and exhausted before taking them, I was struggling to even make decisions as I was so foggy headed. I still get slight dizziness but I'm putting that down to my low blood pressure and POTS (condition I have)
