OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ClaphamLauren · 07/09/2007 13:19

Aww!!

My stupid ex is missing out on all of these things bloody loser.

preggersagain · 07/09/2007 14:30

oh- i thought i'd said my scan is Wednesday at 10.45- can't wait- i've heard the heartbeat every pother day with my doppler though, so i guess i have relaxed slightly- doc thinks i may be further than i think!

littleducks · 07/09/2007 14:44

ok then, i'm back, my scan went well, but you can really tell how different hospitals even within the same trust vary, it took 5 mins max. as baby was co operating dd was a pain and we did it twice for like half an hour, they dont play the heartbeat to you and only took one pic, as i think this scanner isnt as clear but as long as they can check the baby it doesnt matter.

Im also not having a normal nuchal fold but a triple test where the probability is combined with blood test results. Im not too sure how I feel about this too be honest, i feel uncomfortable this was explained during the scan as it wasnt what i had i agreed to, but apparently it is the new policy since June and normally explained at booking in appointment which i havent had yet as midwife is on holiday.

Im considering declining the blood test but really arent sure what to do..... hmmm

But to be positive, as the baby came on scree, i was desperatly trying to make out a heartbeat and it did a massive jump! So it seems like a hello.

tori32 · 07/09/2007 15:05

littleducks so glad your scan went well, IMO it depends on what you will do if baby comes out as high risk, because even with high risk it would be less than a 1% chance of having something wrong? I didn't bother with nuchal fold, because I wouldn't terminate and the odds of having something wrong are slim even at high risk.

Hi everyone else on the thread. Have already needed lots of cake as dd is driving me nuts today, tantrums, tears, not eating lunch and throwing said lunch on floor [grrr]

littleducks · 07/09/2007 15:15

I didnt really mind the ordinary nuchal fold, as it was easy to ignore and i wanted the twelve week scan as it helps dh experience the pregnancy ifyswim and as im young so the probability figure is low. I dont really want to figure in my blood results as it is not a conclusive diagnostic test but still a probability so if the result came back as high risk it wouldnt actually tell me anything just worry me, and i think then midwives etc. would put pressure on me for more invasive test which i wouldnt want as whatever any test came back as it wouldnt affect my feeling on the pregnancy.

Is peachy about? I would like her opininon and advice.

yardette · 07/09/2007 15:32

Just a quick message to say, thinking of you all, and particularly mumofmonsters. I don't know exactly why things are uncomfortable for you in posting on this thread, but I guess that its bound to coming up to your scan date.
Take care of yourself, and will be thinking of you next week.
xx

imjin100 · 07/09/2007 15:41

mumofmonsters, no need to explain but hope you're ok. sending love to all

ClaphamLauren · 07/09/2007 15:59

Littleducks I had the triple blood test thing and I found it really reassuring as it took my odds from 1 in 1090 (background risk) right to 1 in 21786 based on fetal nuchal translucency and maternal serum biochemistry (blood I think that is). If you're young and have no history you'll probably find it really reassuring too!

If not, at least you can prepare yourself. Apprently it is also useful as it does your hCG levels and some other complicated stuff!

Good luck whatever you do

turtle23 · 07/09/2007 16:43

Positivity police just checking in!

I am very hot, bloated, and dizzy but I am smiling as it's Friday and I HAVE THE NEXT 10 DAYS OFF!!! (Please let it be sunny...)

piggyp · 07/09/2007 17:34

I'm so excited that some of you can feel your LOs moving! Whose got a bump yet? I haven't (check every morning)although the DH says I am looking 'a little chubby' (too kind!) I am 14+5, what's 'normal'?
Hurrah for friday !

monthlymayhem · 07/09/2007 18:05

Good news little ducks on the liitle 'duckling'

I've had a really crap day at work, only made slightly better by someone having birthday cake..yum. This morning I had packed my gym stuff with good intentions of going for a workout after work, and instead I found myself driving home, logging on to mnet and am about to go for a snooze.

Going out for tea and then to the cinema, so my logic is that if I don't have a snooze I'll only fall asleep in the cinema (I have a ridculous number of films that I've only seen the first 10 mins of because I always fall asleep watching films on a Friday night..). WIll go to gym tomorrow.

How exciting for those who can feel LO moving. I think it will be a wee while yet for me as it's my first - can't wait though.

Have a nice Friday evening everyone!

glammama · 07/09/2007 18:22

Hello all, Happy Friday to you all! DD has been unexpectedly invited to a sleepover and my first thought was "wahey, I can go to bed at 8", I mean, how sad is that!!
I'm 14 weeks today and don't think I'll feel any movement for some time, there is a lot of, ahem, padding between me and baby, ifykwim. I read today that the baby now has vocal chords and can cry very very quietly. Which I actually found quite disturbing. Anyway, I might go in the bath now as I can ! Anyone else inordinately upset about Pavarotti? I have been avoiding the news recently (and I'm so much happier) but I read it in someone's paper on the bus, and I burst into tears there and then. And then the Italian cafe where I had lunch yesterday blasted out some of his arias and I was off again. Luciano, you will be missed.

glammama · 07/09/2007 19:07

I have been a busy bee. Didn't think it was fair to clog up this thread with London meet up arrangements so I've created a special place here. London meet up thread
I have also created a public profile page but am now freaking out as I think DD's school jumper is identifiable. Should I remove the pic at once? New to posting pics so need advice please!

skidoodle · 07/09/2007 19:43

OMG glamma, your DD is ADORABLE what a gorgeous little girl.

The normal guidelines for kids' pictures online is not to have their full name there along with anything that would identify where they live or go to school. Unless there's anyway people could find out your real name I think you should be OK leaving the picture there. You do mention East London, but that's a pretty big, populous place. I can't make out the crest on the jumper, but it might be recognisable to someone from your area. Then again someone from your area might just see DD in the street. Your call.

OMG yardette, after you mentioned cream cheese bagel with smoked salmon earlier a plate of brown break with cream cheese and smoked salmon appeared in work and I was like a demon eating them. YUM

I also have been wondering if I can feel movement (14 weeks) I thought I must be imagining it, but if you guys are all imagining it too then I can just believe in it. Although the wind explanation does definitely hold some weight

littleducks - that's great about your scan. I've been having exactly the same wonderings about this triple test, which apparently here they do at 16 weeks. I absolutely HATE having blood taken, but that's not really a good reason. On Wednesday after they took blood I was going around all day with a claw-like arm bent up for the entire day and wouldn't use it properly because it was so delicate what a silly eejit.

monthlymayhem - I hear you on the missing films through falling asleep. In my case it's always the supposed classics - Taxi Driver, Chinatown etc. I always manage to stay awake for truly great movies like Elf and Housesitter.

yardette · 07/09/2007 19:58

LOL at skidoodle staying up to watch such film greats at Elf. OMG we have years in front of us of watching such drivel don't we???

Skidoodle - smoked salmon and cream cheese is the business. I've happily read that I HAVE to get an extra 300 calories a day PER BABY so have upped my Green and Black intake accordingly and plan to have a bacon butty for breakfast tomorrow...

I've joined the multiple birth threads (eek) and there's some lovely pro ladies in there with twins and triplets (one with twins and triplets i believe ) who have been reassuring me. Keep having slightly wobbly moments where I wonder how on earth I'll cope with twins. And if one more person tells me I'll need a maternity nurse I'll cheerfully throttle them and blame it on the hormones (lovely idea, but we just can't afford it). The pros on multiple births have reassured me that maternity nurses are fantastic but not essential and ahve answered a few of my more pressing concerns, like - can you breastfeed two at once if no-one is there to hand the babies to you? (apparently so, but it sounds quite ambidextrous!). Similarly, apparently it IS possible to pick them both up at the same time, but I can't see how without it being dangerous!

Have great weekends all.

glammama · 07/09/2007 20:09

skidoodle I too lol at you staying up to watch Elf. We took DD to see Surf's Up last sunday. DP had the luxury of falling asleep but my eyes had to remain wide open for every one of its long 90 minutes.
Thx for the advice re photo and thx for the nice things you said. I've changed the location to a more general London. I just turned on to watch Corrie and the blooming rugby is on Have a nice weekend all!

skidoodle · 07/09/2007 20:16

yardette, Elf truly is one of my favourite movies , but yes I imagine soon we will know all the names of the characters is Dora the Explorer. And you know that kids can watch the same movie 20 times in a row and still enjoy it

I'm sure you'll do fine with the two babies. Of course it will be more work but from what I can gather the first 3 months or so first time are kind of mayhem anyway and all of our lives will be taken over with baby stuff, and a little chaotic and then we'll manage and make it out the other end and all the things that seem so mysterious now will be like second nature. You seem a very sorted lady and you have a supportive DH so it will probably be a very rewarding kind of baby maelstrom.

And the benefits: as you said 2 little smiling faces grinning up at you, kids to play together, 2 babies for the price of one pregnancy [that sounds a great deal to me right now] AND 600 extra calories you HAVE TO EAT.

plus, you know, twins are lovely. i always wished I was a twin.

TVINS!

glammama · 07/09/2007 20:49

Yardette, I'm sure you and your DH will be just fine. To tell the truth, I was a little disappointed to only see one baby (I know that makes me seem greedy) as I think there is something magical about twins. When you start having panicky moments about coping , pop onto this site wow I couldn't get past the fast few bars of cheesy music but I'm sure you get my point!

HolidaysQueen · 07/09/2007 21:07

Yardette - like glammama, I was a little disappointed not to see twins on screen. I've always wanted them. I'm just really pleased that there are twins on our thread for me to enjoy vicariously Like skidoodle, a two for the price of one pregnancy sounds brilliant - I'm really not enjoying this nausea and knackeredness and desperate for the blooming stage (old timers - do you really bloom or is it all a myth?)
I'm enjoying the rugby tonight especially as DH isn't in to see me ogle them. It's just me, my baby, 30 buff gentlemen and chocolate icecream - what a great Friday night!
It's my birthday tomorrow and I'm seeing my best friend for lunch followed by a Thai cooking lesson with DH and other friends in the evening - should be lots of fun! Hope you all have lovely weekends planned - and turtle, I hope you have a great 10 days off work

skidoodle · 07/09/2007 21:12

happy birthday for tomorrow HQ that sounds a lovely birthday

rugby players used to be all thick-necked and minging when I was young. is it just since they went professional that they look all muscle-bound and enticing?

frankerooney · 07/09/2007 22:18

Wow you people seem to be doing so much, going out and even... exercising! I can barely move, I'm so tired! My mum came to look after ds yesterday while I had a lie down after lunch and the next thing I knew, she woke me up 3 hours later!

My due date is 31st March so I probably won't have my first scan for another 2 weeks at least, so don't forget us stragglers!

Think I'm going to go and munch a fourth bag of cheesy Wotsits (must find somewhere to hide them from dh ).

Best wishes to all.

littleducks · 08/09/2007 07:44

Ok i have decided to decline the bloods, as i have a scan report saying the basic one baby seen appears to have a heart, two arms two legs and i just dont want to get into any probability scores. Now if i could find the right words to explain this to midwife next week at booking in? Without explaining myself for half an hour.

My due date has changed from 21/03 to 26/03 so im off to find dates thread. I think last time i felt baby move about 16 weeks last time, but for a week or two i wasnt sure if it was def bavy IYSWIM. Felt like bubbles popping/butterflies. But was ages and ages before dh could feel baby, think hhe got fed up i would put his hand to my tummy and he coldnt feel anything.

turtle23 · 08/09/2007 09:08

littleducks...If I were you, I would go in with the "This is how I feel and I will not be talked out of it" approach. Cut her off when she starts in and remind her that this is your pregnancy and your baby. Sounds a bit much but it usually works. They like to see Mums who know what they want. (Advice from a friend who did the same)

glammama · 08/09/2007 09:36

Happy Birthday Holidays Queen Have a fab child free (sort of) day!!

littleducks I agree with turtle. Stick to your guns. I'm doing the same as you, no tests at all, except the usual maternity ones. Whose baby is it for goodness sake? I think that if there is a problem the scan will pick it up. Good luck.

merryberry · 08/09/2007 10:07
