Here we are ladies- I'll dash off and link to the new thread from the old one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sparklygothkat · 11/09/2007 21:22

don;t mind, I had a C/section with DS, as he was breech and I went into natural labour at 35 weeks. With Dd1 and Dd2 I went into labour at 31 and 33 weeks and had a natural deliverly each time. They are keeping a close eye on me this time. I am hoping to get to 37 weeks this time, at least. Have been told that they will induce me at 38 weeks because of the diabetes. TBH, I will be glad when it all over now.

RGPargy · 11/09/2007 22:25

Hi Kayla

Welcome to the thread!

SGK is certainly right by saying that i have a large age gap between my son and this LO. 17 years in fact!! I'm due on 27th November. We're also of similar age - i'm 39 - so not too far behind you.

Sorry to hear you've been having a rough time of it tho. Hope it goes smoothly for the rest of your pg!

KaylaBmummy · 12/09/2007 11:37

Hi RG, Thanks. Yes, hoping to see the consultant tomorrow. I have been trying to way up the pro's and con's of going for an elective c-section or trying to hold out for a normal delivery but im starting to get low with the constant pain and all the other symptoms that come with pregnancy. God it was so much easier in my early twenties when I had the other two. I have been reading alot of other treads on induction and c-section and not all sound positive so Ill chat tomorrow and see what he suggests. Anyway how has your pregnancy been going? Have you had any problems? Its nice to talk to mums closer to my age and share info so thanks.

aikigypsy · 12/09/2007 12:26

Hello Kayla! I read somewhere that there's an age curve with average length of gestation -- longest gestation at about 29 y.o., tapering off on either side, so teenagers and women in their late 30s and beyond have slightly shorter pregnancies. I don't know if there's much research to back it up, though.

Anyway, I'm home, and the journey was fine apart from a very uncomfortable half hour circling the airport at Boston through turbulent clouds. The landing gear went up and down about 5 times, I swear. I was looking for a sick bag -- none in the pocket in front of me, but fortunately found one in the neighboring seat. I didn't wind up needing it, but it was very, very close. Gave me a huge headache.

I got home and had a good solid night's sleep, didn't wake up once for the first time in ages. It really does help having a bed to myself, and no annoying drunk people at 3 AM shouting under the window followed by loud garbage trucks and street sweepers at the crack of dawn. Also I was just really, really tired.

Today's project: Track down a temporary job or some sort of work for the next 2 months, and go in for my checkup.

RGPargy · 12/09/2007 12:52

Kayla - sounds like you're having a real rough time of it! Poor you! I really dont want to make you hate me, but i have to say i'm feeling much better with this pg than i remember ever feeling when i was pg at 22! I remember how tired i used to feel and i had constant back ache! But i have to say that i just feel so well with this one, with the exception of the tiredness starting to creep back in and a stitch-type pain if i walk too fast. Other than that tho, i'm great. Sorry! Oh and i'm going for a home waterbirth with this one too. Sooooo different from the hospital bed i gave birth on last time with DS!

Aiki - Glad you got home safe and sound. I only woke up once last night and that felt like a real treat. Oh to sleep through the ENTIRE night!!! Well done!

sparklygothkat · 12/09/2007 13:51

I ended up in hospital this morning, because I couldn't get hold of anyone about the diabetes and they just told me to come in. Was monitored and had a 30% contraction while on it She also checked to see if he has engaged, and he has!!!!! I am not going to carry this one to term..

RGPargy · 12/09/2007 15:00

Oh SGK!! What a worry for you!! Just hang on in there sweetie. I'll keep everything crossed for you! x

Easywriter · 12/09/2007 15:09

Sparkly you never know when they've decided they're coming out but at least everyone's aware that you may go into labour a little early so I'm sure all will be fine. (((Hugs to you!))).

Tonysmum (I think!) the nappies that we've signed up for are 'Shaped two piece' nappies (a shaped nappy with a seperate waterproof wrap)made by Lollipop. We've gone for a few polyester ones and a few bamboo ones. They feel gorgeous, I really hope they work OK (they should do as apparently they are well spoken of by the parents that us them)... just add a baby!!

By the way, I appear to have given up cooking now. Can't be ar*ed!! All I do is make salads or drive to the fish and chip shop. Is that really bad?
The strange thing is that I CAN be bothered to cook but only the batch cookig that I'm doing for the three months after Marnie arrives and that happens at 4-5am.
Does that count as nesting?
Blummin' bonkers!

RGPargy · 12/09/2007 15:11

Mmmmm.... chip shop....... doesn't sound bonkers to me at all!!!

Easywriter · 12/09/2007 15:17

I know would it be very wrong to have fish and chips for dinner two nights in a row!!!

Don't answer if the answer is yes .

sparklygothkat · 12/09/2007 16:36

I am upset because I had visions of carrying to term, which I know isn't going to happen.

RGPargy · 12/09/2007 16:39

Easy - OK then i will not answer. My i think this ->

KaylaBmummy · 12/09/2007 16:58

Hi RG - Thanks for that, I am so glad everything is going well for you, its nice to hear. I am ok, think a good nights sleep would stop all my moaning ha ha. The home water birth sounds very nice, I considered a home birth up until the back and kidney but now advised to go into hospital which is ok. I just cant wait for it to be here. I did not ask what it was, its nice to have a suprise but most of my friends and family say from the way im carrying that it looks like a girl, but I would be happy with either sex. I walked into town today for a bit of exercise but on way home found I was having loads of tightening, so got home and had a cuppa and sticky bun, god I have craved sweet food terribly on this pregnancy. I was thinking of having some reflexology or massage for the back pain etc, does any know if this is ok during pregnancy, I thought it may help!!

littleoldme · 12/09/2007 17:06

SGK - Ouch!! When the spd gets that bad I find a doubled over tubi grip really helps. Hope you are being well looked after. I've got everything crossed for you.

I got sent home form work today. Had a mega dizzy hot sicky thing. Doc thinks I've got a virus which combined with PG is making me v wobbily. My mum came over and pampered me. Thanks heavens for mothers eh!

Pixiefish · 12/09/2007 18:20

Easy- you're welcome here to batch cook anytime in the next 6 weeks

OP posts:
ChocolateHobnob · 12/09/2007 18:56

Hi all

Thanks for the welcome...

Sparkly (you're Lisa's sister from the Oct thread, right?) I'm sorry you don't think you'll carry this one to full term. But at least you have experience of premature births and all your other three DCs are fine, so this lo will be too. And think you'll get to meet him sooner!

RGPargy, glad you don't have diabetes! Relief I expect.

Kayla, I've craved more sweet food than normal, and lo dances when I eat grapes or sugary food in general. I don't know what that means in terms of the baby's sex - it probably just means I'm going through a sweet-toothed phase!

Everyone else, I'm slowly reading through all your posts - hope to get to know you soon!

sparklygothkat · 12/09/2007 19:45

yes am lisad's sister. I always thoiught that maybe, just maybe I would carry this one to term, or even to 37 weeks, but now I know that will not happen, not unless he unengages

iris66 · 12/09/2007 21:06

Hi all had another crappy appointment with the consultant today who is still knee jerking over insulin and not a happy bunny (he doesn't like dealing with facts, it seems!) but all's fablious in Irisville because DH got home today YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KaylaBmummy - welcome to the thread (I've a 17yr age gap between my first two - DD 18yrs/DS 19mths - and I turn 41 in Nov) I felt much easier pg first time too. I'm just knackered now and would rather like to have my body back!! Reflexology or massage would be good for you (and the baby)at the mo but I'd be inclined to go for the reflexology as you'll get your whole body done and it'll be more relaxing (I practise both professionally)

SparklyGothKat - think "holding on" thoughts hon!! This one is going to stay put for longer - he's just getting more comfy that's all (after all,it's footie season!) Did you get any guidance regarding your diabetes whilst you were there btw?

Easywriter - I'm going off cooking now DH is home (though DD cooked tonight (and babysat DS - bless) as we were at the hospital). Fish & chips sounds just wonderful. he batter sends my sugar crazy though so it's now down on my list of "what we must eat within days of getting the new baby" (along with champagne/brie/pate & runny egg )

Tomismum - fluffles are a fab(synthetic) cloth nappy too (bit bulky on a newborn but sooo soft & very quick to dry) I use a mixture of fluffles, Motherease Onesize and wambamboos (brilliantly absorbant birth to potty nappy but take a while to dry - I think they've a different name now - made by Geobel)

Loopymumsy - long time no hear (or maybe it just feels that way - clearly you're missed ) Have you moved in and sorted everything out yet? Hope everything's ok and it's just an internet connection....

ChocolateHobNob - don't stress about reading up!! I've been on since the start and I still get confused (but that could be my age ...iris slinks off to fixate over whether pg brain could be permannent )

Aikigypsy - pleased that you had a good sleep when you got back (but slightly at you planning to find 2 mths work - you need to rest!) Reckon you should start a thread on pg length vis a vis age . Can I start:
Age 21 - pg length 40 weeks
Age 39 - pg length 39+2

must stop waffling - DH's first night at home so needs a bit of fuss. Catch you all soon. iris x

sparklygothkat · 12/09/2007 21:09

Just that I didn;t have to start the insulin yet as long as I don;t get told off next week at clinic

iris66 · 12/09/2007 21:10

Aikigypsy - just read my post (note to self - preview first!!!!!) and it sounded like I was taking the mick - I'm not, I really think that would be an interesting survey

off to fuss DH

night night

Easywriter · 12/09/2007 21:12

Sparkly you never know, things may pan out differently to how you think. Babies haven't read the text books on how things work and maybe it'll be a case of engaged this week, unengaged next week! I really hope so. Try not to worry or feel too disappointed (I know this is far more easily said than done but...) your little one may have a different plan for how this birth story is going to go.

Iris66 - well done today. Keep strong for the next meeting.

silkcushion · 12/09/2007 21:16

Hello Hobnob and Kayla - suggestions for back pain - I went to an osteopath and he was like a miracle healer. Lower back pain disappeared after one visit. Sore pelvis has eased a bit too after visting him. He said he couldn't fix it until after delivery but would help minimise discomfort and it appears to have worked.

Sparkly - sorry to hear that you think you're going to go early again. Try and stay positive.

Anyone else got itchy arms and legs? I've had it for about 5 days now. Am a bit concerned cos I had an abnormal liver function test 8 weeks ago (but retested since and has been ok). Think itching is a sign of bad liver thingy. MW took blood again yesterday - will get results back friday.

RG - go swimming. It feels great. The hardest part is dragging my lard arse out of the house in an evening to get to the gym. But once I'm in the water I love it. Feel weightless and really energised afterwards - which is a rarity at the moment.

Think I will try and get an early night as I have a long day ahead at work tomorrow and have started feeling shattered by Thursdays.

Pelvic Floor Exercises everyone

iris66 · 12/09/2007 21:17

Sparkly - that's really good news - one less thing to worry about

Easywriter - thanks for the support

........damn that walking past the computer after going to the loo

must go fuss DH

sparklygothkat · 12/09/2007 21:25

I am going to relax now and think postive thoughts, I will carry to term

sarahloumadam · 12/09/2007 21:45

Hello lovely mums. Have no real news but just wanted to show my face as I haven't posted for a while.

Sorry to hear some of you having crap time and SGK hope your LO hangs on as long as possible.

Love talking about all things baby/pregnancy related on mumsnet but getting slightly bored of having to discuss finer points of my birth plan with every man and his dog now I am so obviously pregnant... I am such a miserable cow Anyone else got pregnancy small-talk fatigue? I must emphasise again that I love talking about it here!
