I'm really upset as there are no nct classes in my area and I cant find any alternatives either. My local hospital does a free hypnobirthing class which I will do but I was also hoping to do pregnancy yoga and cant find anything like that either.
I spent a whole day last week crying about it, not that I'm dramatic or anything 😬

DinoGreen · 07/07/2019 13:59

I did NCT with my first and I think it was well worth it. I feel like I learnt a lot (think this varies depending on your instructor, mine was great and really down to earth) and then had a ready made solid group of friends for mat leave, I’m still friends with 3 of them, 3 years later (1 moved away and 1 just drifted apart). I definitely think it’s worth the money if you can afford it.

Missmonkeypenny · 07/07/2019 15:31

As a younger mum, i have to say I wouldn’t recommend NCT classes from a friendship POV. I was at least 10 years younger than the other mums, something which was constantly pointed out by them. I was immediately excluded from meet ups after th babies were born which was hard to deal with after I thought we got on well - there were 9 in our class and 7 of them still meet up at least once a month, the other one moved abroad.

Maybe I just got a bad batch, I don’t know, but it was a really crappy experience. The classes itself were okay but nothing I couldn’t have learnt from a hospital one I don’t think.

Soph43 · 07/07/2019 16:12

Missmonkeypenny I totally see where your coming from, exclusion is partly why I’m going to do the hospital ones and then I knew a few people currently pregnant near me so will have friends to meet up with babies :)

April was clearly a busy month.

Missmonkeypenny · 07/07/2019 16:23

Soph I’m looking around to see if there are any refresher courses which I could do with DH because this baby is his first but he’s also a paramedic so doesn’t need the medical/labour and delivery part as much! I think I’ll be much more proactive in taking baby to groups this time and hopefully more confident putting myself forward and talking to people without worrying that they won’t like me.... how do you even make friends as an adult?!

CatRash · 07/07/2019 16:36

@Missmonkeypenny Have you heard of Mush- it's like dating for mum's 😂 Good thing about it is you can see people's interests so can see if you've got things in common before you even talk to them. I've made a couple of friends through it. I've also gained friends through baby groups and even the library.

Missmonkeypenny · 07/07/2019 16:41

Cat no but that sounds fab! I’ll definitely check that out, I live in a much less up-it’s-own-arse area now than I did when I had DD so fingers crossed for some likeminded people.

mrscatmad31 · 07/07/2019 17:26

I won't bother with NCT, I didn't the first time either, I met lots of mum's at a breastfeeding group last time but the two groups that are in my town are both at the same day/time and it's the only time I can't do as my DD has a dance class then. So I am a bit worried I won't meet any other new mums

Missmonkeypenny · 07/07/2019 17:56

For those not on the FB group, hubby snapped this of me today - I still can’t believe I’m bloody pregnant and seeing myself with a bump like this makes me so emotional!

Chembecky · 07/07/2019 18:31

I've booked the NCT classes this weekend. People who I know who have done them say they're really good. And we don't know many people where we live so it will be useful to meet some people!!

Am I the only one who hasn't bought anything baby-related yet??! I just feel it's really early, plus we want to move house (hopefully before the end of the year) so don't want to buy stuff to have to move! We will probably have a trip to Mothercare (which is miles away) and buy lots of stuff....don't even know where to start!

BowiesJumper · 07/07/2019 18:47

I didn’t do NCT last time and won’t this time. But I hear good things re meeting friends through it. Fortunately my local children’s centre does quite a few free classes etc which is great. And I also met up with the ladies from the mumsnet group for that month that lived nearby fairly regularly which was lovely. NCT is so expensive so I couldn’t justify it!

DaisyMay25 · 07/07/2019 18:50

Yesterday I bought a changing back and steriliser kit. Today we bought some clothes!! Two onsies and then a set from tkmaxx, it was about an 8 item set for £15, absolute bargain, if anyone can and hasn't already check out their baby stuff! I also bought some dummies because my old boots card had £9 on it and got my free MAM. I bought the cutest elephant slippers which I will upload a photo of later.
There's no stopping me now, I find out the sex in two weeks then more clothes will be purchased!

mrscatmad31 · 07/07/2019 18:58

@Missmonkeypenny that's a lovely bump!

Hanraa1 · 07/07/2019 19:02

@Chembecky I haven't bought anything either! Going to leave it a few weeks and buy the big stuff towards the autumn.

Hanraa1 · 07/07/2019 19:02

@Missmonkeypenny gorgeous bump! I've got nothing of note yet!

Chips84 · 07/07/2019 19:29

@Missmonkeypenny lovely bump. How far along are you?

I'm also on the fence on NCT.
Has anyone done or heard of the mummas and bean antenatal classes, and knows if they are any good?

Missmonkeypenny · 07/07/2019 19:46

Thanks ladies, I’m feeling quite nice today Grin
Chips I’m 13+3!

SleepingStandingUp · 07/07/2019 23:13

@Missmonkeypenny that's crappy, but there is def an age thing with NCT, we had one couple who were early / mid twenties - we did try and keep in touch but i think we just weren't cool enough for her to want to hang out with, the rest of us were late 20's - early 40's.
I'm still friends with two Moms from that group, our kids are 4 now and we've arranged a play date for the school holidays. We don't live terribly close, but try to meet up with and without the kids, we did a theatre trip before each of the 2nd babies came so i'm gonna demand a November trip to the theatre and virgin cocktails!!

Kinsters · 08/07/2019 01:35

So lovely missmonkeypenny!

I haven't bought any baby stuff or even thought about classes. I don't know what we get in Malaysia. I think most of the hospitals run classes so we'll probably sign up at the hospital we choose to deliver at. We haven't chosen yet though as we're moving to a new city at 24 weeks.

Kinsters · 08/07/2019 03:55

Can't believe how painful my back is today - I don't know why but it feels like I've got a knot in my actual bum muscle and it's making it so painful to sit down. I've got loads of work to do as well so I'm sure I'll be doing overtime today (plus I'm working so slowly because this pain is really distracting). Trying to think if there's anywhere I can stand and work but there isn't really. No idea what's caused it - it seems like with my back once I sort one thing out by correcting posture or getting a cushion something else pops up instead.

beth3735 · 08/07/2019 08:05

How can I be added to the Facebook group please?

mynameisMrG · 08/07/2019 08:45

14 weeks today. This is my scary two weeks now. My last two pregnancies ended in week 14 and week 15 so if we can successfully get through the next fortnight I will start to relax a little bit

Kinsters · 08/07/2019 09:10

Oh wow mynameisMrG this must be a very stressful time for you. Hope you're able to relax as much as you can. Are you getting extra scans/support from epu or your midwife?

DinoGreen · 08/07/2019 10:01

Morning all. On my way home from holiday today - it’s been lovely but also looking forward to getting back to my comfy bed and not being quite so hot - pregnancy def makes it harder for me to cope with the heat!

I’m 12+2 today and got my scan on Wednesday - looking forward to that even though it’s only 2 weeks since we had an early one at 10 weeks!

Re NCT, my group was on the smaller side (6 couples) and age range was 28-36 which was fine. I met younger and older mums at other groups and never found it a problem getting on with any of them, I think you must have been unlucky with your group @Missmonkeypenny

@mynameisMrG hope you’re coping ok with stress and do you get an extra scan to check everything is ok?

mynameisMrG · 08/07/2019 11:10

Thanks ladies. I get a scan at 16-17 weeks (no date through yet) with my consultant and then scans every four weeks until birth. Trying to keep busy and keep telling myself there is no reason for it to happen again so trying to keep positive. It’s like waiting for the 12 week scan all over again
