June 2019 - Part 7!

Hi ladies! Picking names, packing hospital bags - third trimester here we come! Smile

I thought I'd start out with the stats this time and I'll post the updated name list in a bit. I've just included the data that I have, since a lot of people are missing bits (or quite possibly I've missed their posts). We come from all over, so I'll put that bit in another post later as well.

Our average age at estimated due date is 33! That should help some of us who are feeling older.

And that's not just because we're all second-timers! In fact, most of us are having our first baby this year.

Baby #1 - 31
Baby #2 - 26
Baby #3 - 9
Baby #4 - 1
Babies 1&2 together! - 1

Fifteen of us are expecting lovely little boys, nineteen of us are expecting darling little girls, and at least sixteen of us are waiting to be surprised!

The average due date is June 13th, and the most popular due date is June 24th. We don't have anyone expecting on the 15th, 23rd, 27th, or 30th as far as I can tell.

And if you happen to have a baby on my birthday (June 16th), your baby will be born on Father's Day this year!

I heard the baby’s heartbeat today! I had a different midwife today, newly arrived from Scotland. I don’t think I’ll see her again but she was really nice.

@Dustyzest I had to dial the hospital more than sixty times to get a scan appointment that they were meant to contact me about. I just keep calling because no one ever calls me even when they’re meant to.

I hope you have a very nice meal when you’re done!

@kescilly oh that’s so exciting isn’t it! My partner cries every time. I recorded it on my phone for him and he makes people he hardly knows in pubs listen to it. I like their ‘politely interested’ expressions!

And thank you, I am treating myself to a blow dry afterwards as a reward!

Changingagain · 02/04/2019 14:53

I've just had my 28 week growth scan but don't get the results until Thursday when I see the consultant at the diabetes clinic. Confirmed that she's still a girl though, and she's in position already, to the point that the sonographer had to tip me upside down to get a measurement on her head. She's also still bent double with her legs straight. At the 20 week one she was sucking her toes, this time she was kicking herself in the face.

Blondcat · 02/04/2019 15:48

Just at the dentist for check up and hygiene appointment baby was having a good wiggle and kick while having the teeth cleaning very distracting 😂

Daffydillo · 02/04/2019 17:37

Had my GTT today, yuck. Drink they gave me was warm (as in room temperature) had a thick ish texture to it and it made my mouth itchy. Lady taking bloods had no polite small talk to try and distract from the blood tests. Feeling poorly this afternoon Sad

rollerskaterdata · 02/04/2019 22:09

@Changingagain lol and how cute! I hope your results come back all good. I have my growth scan next week at nearly 33 weeks and hope all is well. I'm getting a bit nervous now

Pigriver · 02/04/2019 22:18

Placemarking as not getting notifications anymore.
Currently on school holidays and trying to do as little as possible with a 3.5 year old!
28 week appt with midwife tomorrow. Nothing exciting to report other than DS announcing he wants to watch the doctor taking the baby out of my belly 😳
Started to sort the baby clothes despite buying nothing but 2 T-shirt’s we have amassed a ridiculous amount 😂

imtakingabath · 03/04/2019 10:04

32 weeks today, so have just started drinking Raspberry Leaf Tea. I think I just want to feel like I'm doing something to prepare for labour, but who knows if it'll do anything!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 03/04/2019 10:14

I know some of you have some quite serious things to be concerned about so I say this in quite a light-hearted way, but I have just discovered possibly the grossest and most disturbing pregnancy side effect that I had not heard of before.
I have just discovered (the hard way) that you can get varicose veins on your vulva/around your vagina Shock
I may never get the image out of my brain. It looks like I've slept with an alien.
10 weeks til due date and counting!!

Kescilly · 03/04/2019 10:15

@Daffydillo that sounds like the tests I’ve taken. The drink would be slightly better if it were at least chilled! I hope you’re feeling better today.

@imtakingabath what is the tea meant to do? I remember hearing about it but can’t remember what exactly it does.

Baby has been extremely active this morning, which always makes me feel better.

Not sure why there is a gin bottle instead of a shocked face in my post. Although I'm probably going to need a lot of gin once this baby has arrived....

imtakingabath · 03/04/2019 10:18

@Kescilly it's meant to tone the uterus so that contractions are more effective I believe! Most information I've read says to stop drinking it if you have strong Braxton Hicks afterwards though.

@KoalasAteMyHomework I can see a shocked face :)

KoalasAteMyHomework · 03/04/2019 10:24

How weird. Now I've come back onto the thread I see a shocked face too. Clearly the thought of vaginal varicose veins shocked Mumsnet into a gin bottle response haha! It's obviously fixed itself now.

mrshadders · 03/04/2019 12:21

@Kescilly how lovely to hear the heartbeat, I recorded it at my 28 week appointment last week and keep listening!

Does anyone know if a health visitor comes to your house in every area? This is my first baby so no idea what to expect and I've not heard that before!

toomanyflatwhites · 03/04/2019 13:17

@mrshadders they came postnatally for me (London) rather than during pregnancy.

I'm home with a poorly DD today - after a puking incident Monday night i went to work yesterday while DP stayed home (which never happens!) and was all set to take her to nursery this morning but she fell asleep as we were about to leave! She is just a bit off-colour today with a slight temperature so we have been mostly sitting quietly and our "no screentime" toddler has watched quite a bit of TV today - I'm so knackered I feel like it's actually me who is off sick!! Don't know how SAH mums look after toddlers while pregnant, going to work is tons easier in some ways! And I say that in a day when she definitely hasn't been her usual energetic self!!

Holly257 · 03/04/2019 13:25

So I had my 28 week appointment today I'm 28+5 and baby is measuring just under the 10th percentile. I've got a growth scan for Friday to check on bean but just wondering if anyone else has had this, I've got 2 boys already and not really had this before! also baby is transverse, which is slightly different to my other 2 who was head down all the way through

rollerskaterdata · 03/04/2019 15:18

@Holly257 try not to worry too much, my son was born on the 9th centile and was a happy and healthy baby, currently a happy and healthy 4 year old on the 33rd centile. Some babies / people are just smaller than others but absolutely doesn't mean anything is wrong. I myself am a petite 5 foot frame so wouldn't exactly grow huge babies! Hope you get confirmation all is well on Friday

hexagon01 · 03/04/2019 16:29

Yikes @KoalasAteMyHomeworl, hope that isn’t too painful!

fee1234 · 03/04/2019 17:56

Hope everyone is getting on okay. I have my first NHS antenatal class tonight, no idea what to expect so will report back.

imtakingabath · 03/04/2019 18:20

I hope it goes well @fee1234 :) we had our first NCT class on Monday - I'd heard from a friend who had a baby quite a few years ago that her teacher was very pro natural birth and breastfeeding, and almost shamed the women in the group who ended up having a non-natural birth or formula fed, so I was a little apprehensive about the NCT classes, but thankfully my teacher seems much more open-minded with things and keeps emphasising that everything is our choice, so I was glad about that.

Spargle · 03/04/2019 18:37

I’ve just had my 28-week appointment, at 29 weeks. I’m measuring 30cm, which they don’t seem worried about (thought I’d probably be 36cm, or something far out, and be put on special measures, so only 1cm big is a relief!).

We’ve now been booked into an antenatal class for the middle of May. It’s just the NHS one, but we’re running low on funds and should probably just take what we can get!

Having been given an awful lot of baby clothes, it looks as though the child is now unlikely to need to go naked. Still don’t have anywhere to put him in the house, though! Have today and tomorrow off work at home, so I’m busying myself with trying to sort out a few house bits (the downstairs bathroom has just been plastered, so now we need to see if we can convince the plumber to come before mid-June and fit the bathroom, but there is also SO MUCH of the rest of the house which is just dreadful! I need my nesting instinct to kick in, preferably on days I can spend at home.)

It all feels as though it’s happening a bit fast now. On the other hand, I can’t wait to have him out so that I can wake him up to check his breathing, having only just got him to sleep, instead of trying to shock him awake by pouring hot/cold drinks on him and turning him upside-down.

rollerskaterdata · 03/04/2019 20:13

Well it's official, I'm now a pregnant woman with SPD and pelvic pain so bad I'm on crutches ☹️🤦‍♀️

fee1234 · 03/04/2019 21:37

@rollerskaterdata sorry to hear it's got to that stage! Can't be easy navigating crutches at this stage of pregnancy.

NHS antenatal was okay, just talked to us about labour, pain relief and showed us how to bath baby and change nappies.. I felt a bit judged by the midwife when I said I wanted to use water wipes rather than cotton wool for the meconium poops. I'm going back for the feeding class next week.

stellarfox · 03/04/2019 22:08

We’ve done a couple of weeks of NCT now and it’s great to meet people but not too keen on the lady running it. She’s not a midwife so I’m not sure what qualifications she has! We have learnt a few useful things but I think the hypnobirthing course we did was more informative as it was run by a midwife. I’m sure the free ones will be similar. Seems like the NCT course is a bit of an expensive way to make friends!
