conkertree · 27/07/2007 14:19

congratulations jem - very happy for you - and a little too. am now 5 days from due date and really cant express to the lo any more how welcome it would be to come any time now. we are meant to be going off for a weeks holiday/activities (with my dh as a leader - assuming i dont pop) so would be very nice to pop before we have to go.

he is staying overnight at his work doing a 24 hour sponsored famine tonight with some of his kids so i think i will get a big tub of ice cream and sit and watch a girly film.

Hersetta · 27/07/2007 14:19

TT,

you can just send it to my work address if that's OK - probably won't be using it for more than the next two weeks anyway!

address is [email protected]

ta very much - now imagining warm scrummy eccles cales this weekend!

itchyncsratchy · 27/07/2007 14:32

Hip hip hooray! Well done Jem! And a suprise girl, I'm also looking forward to all the details. And a name please luv!

I read through quick to catch up, it's funny since seeing the photo of the meet up I think of you all quite often. It definitely helps when I'm trying to work out how to roll out of bed with minimum trauma to back n bump and I remember bananabump's hip trouble and other's going through the same stuff.

Hersetta - sorry for your suprise redundency but might be a blessing, at least you can be confident of your employability. Try not to worry for now.

Washersaurus - sorry having to put up with bad tempered husband, I guess the pressure gets to everyone differently. But be firm with him, you're making a major contribution to the family right now and need reassurance and support

TT - love the idea off eccles cake, I found some xmas mince and made a kind of strudel yesterday.

Annie- sorry baby turned after ECV, I had my scan and appt this morning babe still extended breech, I turned down ECV next week and now booked for c-section at 39wks. So that's 3 weeks today 17th August. But there's still a chance our lo's may turn of their own accord

mum2george · 27/07/2007 14:43

Congratulations JEM

Am really looking forward to reading all the details.

I've been feeling really rough for the last couple of weeks with the bladder infection so have turned into a lurker, and I'm not even very good at that, just can't keep up.

Was 39 weeks on Wednesday and really thought I would have LO by now, so am hoping it will come soon. DH is working this weekend and is then off for 4 weeks so am hoping it comes soon so all his lovely leave isn't completely wasted.

Hope the other 24 of us do pop on 1st Aug as thats my due date and the day before our wedding anniversary

growingbagpuss · 27/07/2007 14:53

right, this bump is really getting on my nerves, I have just leant across the kitchen table to reach something, only to find a yoghurt pot lid attached to the underside of my bump.

Its like an upside down bloody shelf, DH constantly points out that the base of the bump is at roughly 90 degrees to my legs. hmmmmmmm

But.. to make us all feel a little better, my DH had to go to hosp today for a small erm.. proceddure... a little camera up his dangly bits, to check for bladder cysts (he had one removed ages ago)... his suffering has comforted me greatly. He got a local anasthetic before they stuck the camera up....I guess our equivalent is an epidural!

And finally... bargain hunters... get this... my B/F bought a bargain Quinny Speedi plus all the extras (cary cot etc) for £160 from a friend of hers..... she's used it for 6 months, and I have just bought it from her for £100.....!! its in lovely condition, and will be perfect for Cornwall in sept and trekking up nrth to see the out laws. Hurrah!!

Ceolas · 27/07/2007 14:56

Congratulations Jem. What a surprise!

36 weeks today. Scan on Tuesday to check baby's position. Not hopeful as it all feels the same. Am feeling very depressed about it, tbh. Like Annie was hoping for a home birth...

bananabump · 27/07/2007 15:00

LOL, What did I say about one spoilsport coming along to jinx my 1st august theory???

Congratulations Jem, that's brilliant news! So what's the prize for the first popper? It'll have to be something alcoholic!

Gosh, we need an august postnatal club thread now then! It'll be quiet for a while (well, until 1st august when the rest of us all pop at once)

Are you suffering with bad hips too, itchy? I don't have much advice on getting out of bed safely, I don't seem to be able to do it without some crunching and clicking and much yelping/swearing.

Oh and bladder control is at an all time low although I do blame the fact that baby's big fat skull is completely filling my pelvis and there's just no room for my bladder at all so I'm running to the loo every 10 minutes or else! Can't wait for this to be over. In fact I may print out all my whinings and keep them in a box for when I'm feeling broody.

conkertree · 27/07/2007 15:15

oh the yoghurt pot lid made me laugh - havent done it myself but can easily see how its done.

the only thing thats really bothering me just now is swollen ankles/feet - they are really painful now and dh keeps forgetting - he's trying to be nice by massaging them but tends to grab them when he puts them up on his knees, which is extremely painful. but cant complain too much as apart from that its just impatience in wanting to meet this lo.

tokentotty · 27/07/2007 16:18

Conkertree - don't even start me off on DH and his heavy handed treatment of my incredibly swollen feet/ankles. It's exactly like you say when he just grabs them to move them and it really makes me shriek. That and the fact that his favourite game is to press into the fattest bit and laugh hysterically at the fact that the dent stays there and takes ages to puff back out again. He tells EVERYONE we see and encourages them to 'have a go - go on'

Got your e-mail address Hersetta, just waiting for something to finish in the oven and then I'll come back and mail the recipe to you.

bananabump · 27/07/2007 16:32

Psh...you're lucky you get any kind of massage, mine huffs and puffs if I ask for a back massage (I don't even mention the feet, I think he'd recoil in horror) and if he does agree to rub it for me, he goes for the one-handed-still-watching-TV approach!

I've decided baby must come out this weekend. We're having a curry tomorrow night, maybe a long walk this evening if I can manage it. Spent far too long last night on nipple twiddling but it didn't bring on any contractions so maybe I'm doing it wrong (is there a technique or do you just freestyle it?) lol

I still can't face sex, I'd rather clean the bog.

growingbagpuss · 27/07/2007 16:32

TT - yuor baking is really beginning to worry me.. I think you should change your name to Ma Beeton or something.

Mind you, I cut the grass this morning, and made a malt loaf... so there is a touch of pot callng kettle......

SweetyDarling · 27/07/2007 16:46

Woooohooo!!! We have a winner!
Congratulations Jem and welcome to the little Jem-let!
So ladies, form and orderly queue...who's next?

Hersetta · 27/07/2007 16:58

LOL Banana. You must be bad if you'd rather clean the bog !

Thanks for the receipe TT - will try and do my bestist impression of delia this weekend.

Last NCT class tomorrow followed by a BBQ at one of the couples house - very nice of them to invite everyone round.

BabyMadandBIGbump · 27/07/2007 17:04

LOL, bananabump sex is good, it might start you off, I find it better to be on top but I do have to make sure DH is still breathing though, but gathering by the big fat grin on his face he always is LOL, what is it with cleaning bogs? I get good satisfaction in cleaning my bog! off to get her head looked at]!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 27/07/2007 17:05

dont worry no link over did it with the [[[[! lol

BabyMadandBIGbump · 27/07/2007 17:06

For many reasons!

tokentotty · 27/07/2007 17:11

Ok Hersetta - recipe sent !!

As for who's next......Ooooh me, me !! Please let it be me !!

sorry, will sit back down and wait my turn...

OP posts:
conkertree · 27/07/2007 17:34

i'd be quite patient if i knew for definite i'd be 10 days overdue - its the not knowing when its going to happen thats the difficult bit - every pain or tightening gets you wondering if this is it.

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 27/07/2007 17:50

Hi ladies, i will also wait patiently even if i dont want to
had a productive day, done 4 loads of washing, changed beds and ironed and put back on! Hoovered car inside and washed ds car seat, also went to halfords to buy one of the cover things for the back of chair as ds seems intent on making as many muddy/scuff marks in my car as possible!
Absolute knacked now may suggest a curry tonight!
Lots of time on my feet tomorrow as we are going to the river festival that in the 2 years we have lived here we have never been , meant to be very good! We will see! Dh is willing baby to come out this weekend as he is meant to be going to watch a football match with my BIL on Sunday and really dont want to go, 1) he doesn't like football and 2) BIL is very nice but quiet and can be hard work!

God Look at me ramble -

TT we will be calling you the new " Fanny Craddock" at this rate!

Pengy · 27/07/2007 18:02

Congratulations Jem! Very excited for you. Although uncomfortable I still don't think I'll feel ready for another couple of weeks, 36/40 today. Look forward to name etc.

Had a better day today but mother in NZ seems intent on making me feel guilty for feeling down some days! Talks about being "bereft" being so far away. It is her first grandchild and I know she feels she is missing out on lots, probably not helped by the fact in laws arrive next week for 2 months. Mothers...!

Met a friend for lunch then pottered around a few shops, bought baby book with mirror to go in cot and arnica/lavender for after baby arrives. Tonight the bag is to be packed and tomorrow we should be getting our buggy, yah!

I'm jealous of all your baking TT. Think with my mushy brain anything would likely be a disaster!

bananabump · 27/07/2007 18:22

Ooh I am a bad bad woman.... my asda shop turned up really late after giving the driver directions three times over the phone, he was about to drive off and I realised I had half my shopping and half someone elses (spotted dogfood, we have no dog!) We managed to sort it out, but when the driver left I noticed a bag of assorted biccies and goodies behind the front door that I didn't order! oops...

TT, yes mil is coming to stay for "a few days" on the 4th unless I kick up a fuss about it. I think dp thinks having the baby will be a bit like having a tooth extracted. I wish he understood that it's a highly emotional thing and I have no idea how I'll handle any of it, so having to have a (albeit very nice) woman I don't know very well in the house 24/7 while I'm trying to establish breastfeeding and bleeding lots isn't ideal.

But I know he really wants her there and I have to consider his feelings too (his family all live 120 miles away, mine are local) It's a very tricky situation! I just want a few days to recover before everyone comes down, but it's so easy to offend him about this as he thinks I hate his mother, which I don't!

Oh well, I'm sure it'll all work out well in the end.

katybird · 27/07/2007 18:23

Congratulations Jem!! So happy for you . Can't wait to hear all the juicy details. In a good way!

Had a scan this morning to check the presentation, the mw yesterday was convinced he was breech, but I think he may have turned in the night because he's head down now. Relieved that we can still go to the birth centre instead of hospital. Fingers and everything else crossed for those of you still with breech babies.

I'm sure you know all the tricks but my SIL recommended an exercise that chiropractors are taught, might be worth a try - kneel on the bed/sofa and put your hands on the floor, with your head dangling down. Stay like that for a min, get up and walk around, then repeat for another min. Apparently the change of angle can make the baby flip.

Pengy - my mum is always telling me how I live too far away and she's only in bloody Durham! 3 hours away by train. I'm sure it is hard for them but you're the one with the hormones, don't feel guilty for not being constantly upbeat. at in-laws descending for 2 months, are they staying with you?

Pengy · 27/07/2007 18:40

In laws are a yearly event and usually get on fine including holidaying together. They are also receptive to "encouragement" to holiday elsewhere on their own to give us a break but do stay with us for much of the time. Haven't said they'll be doing different this year but MIL does have brother in London too so if all became a bit much for me I'm sure I could blame hormones on kicking them out for a bit! Intending to put them to work doing cooking etc...

katybird · 27/07/2007 18:40

Bananabump, maybe you should suggest she stays in a hotel nearby instead of with you? That way she can be around when you both need her but you get the house to yourselves as well. Or make your symptoms as bad as possible and maybe she'll go of her own accord!

Nice haul with the Asda shopping!

katybird · 27/07/2007 18:42

It's nice that you have the option to have them there or not Pengy, I'm sure they'll come in handy doing all the chores too! And with them there for so long they shouldn't crowd you too much in the early days.
