Cheers @TwittleBee, knew the situation on mat pay thanks to the gov website but slightly worried might still experience social fallout from springing mat leave on them so soon after start (no idea how quick or slow turnaround might be on appointments post-interview). I should get Mat allowance though I think. Plan on being super honest with them after interview if offered post and the employer has a good reputation for family friendly attitude. In two minds about the job as adding a house move to a new baby might be a bit extreme though!

ZigZaggyZoo · 19/03/2019 20:39

DustyDoorframes ahh I'm glad your scan went well, I was thinking of you too! Mine went well thanks, looking like a healthy baby in there.
I hope work is kind to everyone. No-one should feel shit for having a baby. I'm a lucky one. I was only back at work 4 months after mat leave before I told my manager I was pregnant again. She's lovely though, took it well!
Talking of buying things, we're going to need a double pram but I think that's it

Hsunshine · 19/03/2019 21:02

When do people think is a good time to go look at or buy pram and decorate a nursery?

DustyDoorframes · 19/03/2019 21:09

Yay scan ZigZag!
Re when to decorate nursery... errr, never done that one, two kids in...

kyles101 · 19/03/2019 21:16

Argh, I pop away for 2 seconds and there's a million comments to catch up on! Love it though!

Have felt so good the last 2/3 days - 15 weeks may just be a turning point - yippee! Although absolutely zero pre-pregnancy trousers fit 😳 dresses it is then!

Re prams, my lovely MIL treated us to the bugaboo chameleon 3+ with the yellow hood - it looks like a bumble bee - I'm in love with it. We're very lucky as it was so generous of her. I think she's a little excited lol!

Hello to all the new ladies 👋

My boss was ok-ish when I told him, we've worked together for 15 years so on a personal level I think he was really pleased... on a work level less so, bless, he doesn't like change! Just trying to reassure him that everything is under control and will be handed over to mat leave cover well and I'll be back for year end next year etc etc!

The formula dispatches program was actually pretty good last night - the £4 back for every £1 spent means like 25% of what you're paying for in big name product is advertising! And they can't even advertise first stage! It was an eye opener, and if I have to use formula will deffo go for sainos or the like.

Sorry, that turned into a ramble, just keep more up to date in future!

Stroan · 19/03/2019 21:17

@hsunshine whenever you want and feel comfortable doing it! We decorated a nursery at about 5 months as we'd just moved into a new house and the room was empty and waiting. Ordered our pram about 6 months. No harm in looking at stuff whenever you want to.

kyles101 · 19/03/2019 21:18

@Hsunshine we're going to start in the next month or so - our reasoning is we're not going to want to spend weekends doing it when we start getting lovely sunny days back as we're much happier outside in the sunshine doing things! And MIL already bought the pram for us!

Megan2018 · 19/03/2019 21:33

I’m not doing a nursery this year - can’t see the point if it won’t get used properly until at least March 2020!
We’ll start buying though after the 20wk scan atvthe earliest I think. No rush for is.

Stroan · 19/03/2019 21:41

@megan2018 DD didn't move into her nursery until she was 2. Then moved into her next bedroom at 2.5! But we did use the nursery for changing her plus it was another place to play. And store all her stuff. But yeah, not massively worth the hours I spent making stuff!

I live in military housing, so this baby will be getting the same shade of shitty magnolia that is consistent with the rest of the house....and every other house owned by the MOD the world over Hmm
I’ve still got to figure out whether I’m going to leave DCs in their own rooms for as long as possible, and then put new baby in with whichever same-sex sibling once the time comes, or whether to bite the bullet and get DD and DS used to sharing for a while before baby comes, so then baby can have his/her own room until he/she is ready to share with same-sex sibling Confused

Megan2018 · 19/03/2019 22:13

Our 2 other bedrooms are large @Stroan with superking beds and DH and I sleep separately most of the time anyway so this baby can be in with me for ages if needed. Plenty of room for a big cot, all her clothes and changing area in with me.

But expect we will do nursery at some point during the 12 months I’m off-I just can’t see the point of doing it before she’s 6 months old. Our house is brand new so we can't paint until Sept due to settlement and won’t want to do it with a newborn so makes sense to wait until next Spring.
I might accumulate some things for it sooner though as I see things but it seems daft to spend time and money on it until she’s big enough to sleep in it.

Easterbuns1 · 19/03/2019 22:16

My older girl and boy have said they would rather go in together rather than share with a baby / toddler. This may of course change by the time said baby needs to move out of my room. So no idea what will happen yet. The gap is a bit too big really I can't imagine a 12 year old wanting a 2 year old in with them.

excitednerves · 19/03/2019 22:41

I had my 16 week appt today with the midwife and heard baby’s heartbeat! Yay! I could almost convince myself I’m not pregnant at the minute, feel totally normal again - just busting out of my pre pregnancy clothes. So it was good to know everything’s ok in there. My only symptom is heartburn. Is there anything we can take for that?

I have a cervical length scan on Friday (due to prev cervical operation) and assuming that goes ok, that’s the last hurdle and I can start to relax.... well until I find the next thing to worry about. Confused

Next stop maternity clothes shopping!

MegCharlotte · 20/03/2019 00:13

@excitednerves Great to hear about your 16 week scan! Mines on Friday and I can't wait as I too have been feeling not pregnant!

I have heart burn and take Rennie, it says on the pack that it can treat pregnancy related heartburn so it's safe and works well!

Moraxella · 20/03/2019 06:02

@excitednerves
I’ve tried Rennie, ranitidine and have now moved on to omeprazole.

It’s so bad I get chest pain, regurg (gross, sorry) and a constant feeling of a lump in my throat which makes me sick 😷

kyles101 · 20/03/2019 06:36

@excitednerves yay! That's so exciting!! As good as seeing a scan I would have thought. I'm with you on convincing myself I'm not pregnant... just fat with sore nipples!!

excitednerves · 20/03/2019 07:30

@kyles101 ha ha! Same! I can’t wait for a bump.

@megcharlotte and @moraxella - Rennie it is! Will stop off at Tesco today.

Holding out in pre maternity clothes as long as possible as there don’t seem to be many summery things in yet and I don’t want to have to do another wardrobe change when it gets warmer. Also jeans! OMG the struggle to find a nice pair that aren’t extra long on my short little legs! I saw the previous posts about shorter length ones so that’s this weekend’s to-do list sorted!

MyBreadIsEggy · 20/03/2019 07:41

At the end of my tether now with this illness - when you you guys admit defeat and see a Dr?
I’m now half way through my second week of flu symptoms that are just not getting any better, I’m coughing so much I’m getting really sharp stabby pains in my tummy, very low down, I’m still hot and cold, and just generally shit.
I feel like I’m being dramatic over what might just be a common cold, but I’m so exhausted with it Sad

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/03/2019 08:04

Depends how sympathetic your gp is eggy mine would tell me to take paracetamol and get over it but she is lacking empathy

DustyDoorframes · 20/03/2019 08:17

@MyBreadIsEggy you could try the pharmacist if you feel a bit sheepish going to the gp?

Has anyone had the blood test for toxoplasmosis? Next door have a newish cat which is poking in my garden (including veg patch). The chances are overwhelming that I e had it, but if not, I'm best avoiding gardening. Argh!! Didn't have a garden with the last two so it didn't come up...

DustyDoorframes · 20/03/2019 08:17

Ahem, autocorrect is very dainty! Not poking but pooing...

MyBreadIsEggy · 20/03/2019 08:33

IVEgot it’s very hit and miss at my surgery, depending on which doctor I can get in to see Hmm

Stroan · 20/03/2019 09:18

@mybreadiseggy I'd go to the GP if you can get an appt. I'd had similar for ten days and it was a chest infection.

I've been spotting with lots of cramps and stabbing pains in my stomach since last night. Triage weren't concerned but I hate how all these things are left unexplained - I like answers and certainty! Have my 16 week midwife appointment this morning so at least I can chat to her about it.

OP posts:
MyBreadIsEggy · 20/03/2019 09:35

There’s no way I’ll get in today if I ring now, so if I still feel like this in the morning then I’ll ring first thing.
DS seems to still be recovering from his weekend illness, and just wants to lay on the sofa, eating toast and watching Oomi Zoomi - which is fine by me!! And Dd is at preschool until lunchtime, so I’ll chill as much as I can until then and hopefully regain some energy!

Karigan195 · 20/03/2019 10:01

Just had the 16 week midwife appt. Got to hear heartbeat. Getting a bit worried about how active this ones going to be when he’s born as yet another session where he was bouncing around all over the place. Been put on aspirin.
