@Tefiti2 any chance you could link that course, I can't find it on Google.

TwittleBee · 19/03/2019 09:09

Haven't managed to find anything in my usual size that fit Tefiti2 as a proper skinny fit. But I have found jeggings from George ASDA to not be too bad. They aren't maternity but figured they should last till dress weather as they are very stretchy around bump.

boodles101 · 19/03/2019 09:12

tefiti thanks so much for that! I've just ordered and an absolute bargain. I missed it last time they had it for £20 But £12 is amazing! I might even end up with a csection but I'll defo be using this just incase!

DustyDoorframes · 19/03/2019 09:14

@MyBreadIsEggy me too! Already got a DD and a DS... although a lot of the little baby kit we used with them was borrowed, so need to start asking round for a birthing/yoga ball and a bouncy chair. And we hired a BedNest for the last two, and they not on the market anymore so need to decide what to do about that- I've a small cot I might just use with the side down, but I did really like having a proper sidecar cot for the early months...

Megan2018 · 19/03/2019 09:39

So this morning whilst doing my usual projectile vomit when trying to clean my teeth I have managed to pull a muscle in my face/jaw and now look like I've had a bloody stroke.
Hurts!

40 mins late for work.

Feeling very feeble today!

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/03/2019 09:43

Definitely eggy

I will also confess that unlike the majority of MNers i am not a muslin user.....maybe because mine were all bottle fed and not overly sicky but i just never saw the need. Wiped up any sick or dribble with the bib they wore for the feed!

Urgh Megan that sounds grim. Last night I threw up so violently I’ve given myself a rash of pinprick purple dots all over my throat - luckily not painful but look even more as if I’ve got the plague!

Tefiti2 · 19/03/2019 10:28

@lavellan here it is : digitalpack.thepositivebirthcompany.co.uk/p/the-positive-birth-company-digital-pack/?product_id=517994&coupon_code=BIRTHDAY

It’s normally £35 so it’s a really good price today!

Megan2018 · 19/03/2019 10:33

@Tefiti2
Thanks for that - although I am sure I'll be having a section I have just ordered as worth a punt for £12. I am prone to high anxiety in medical situations so anything that helps with that is good!

MegCharlotte · 19/03/2019 10:54

@Tefiti2 I have ordered some from Seraphine so will let you know what they like when they arrive later on in the week!

BBell2 · 19/03/2019 11:12

@myBreadIsEggy I'm not buying for this baby either (she says now!), saved everything from DD and at least all the early stuff was neutral, I was often accused of dressing her like a boy anyway, by MIL who used any excuse for a dig.
Will buy for me though - I'm putting more money/effort into a better labour experience and will probably buy a new sling...and then flog the bugaboo cameleon we had before earlier and keep our silver cross fold up because it's great. The bugaboo was, it was lovely and light with a lovely fabric pack but just more of an effort, filled more of the boot.

MyBreadIsEggy · 19/03/2019 11:16

IVEgot mine were breastfed and still I don’t get the whole muslin cloth thing Blush
I never used any form of cover, and those muslin cloths are about as absorbant as a paper bag, so didn’t really help with catching my crazy fire-hose let down when they unlatched mid-feed Confused
The best things I invested in was good slings, and and washable breast pads!

MegCharlotte · 19/03/2019 11:24

@Tefiti2 also just bought the Hynobirthing pack for £12, it's recommended also by the unmumsymum and I love her! Currently in the US suffering from jet lag (it's 4.30am here) - fun when 15 weeks pregnant!! so wondering if it might also double up as an audiobook that will help me fall asleep!!

Moraxella · 19/03/2019 11:27

I have never done this before so am clueless, and don’t want to fill the house with crap. What do they sleep in? Was just going to get a Moses basket and use my cot from when I was a baby (obv with a new mattress).

Have bought a second hand silver cross bouncy pram and a sling, and will go from there.

What are the absolute core essentials? Nappies, clothes, sleeping quarters and pram/sling?

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/03/2019 11:34

Babies need .....

To be warm - clothes / blankets
To be fed - bottles / steriliser / formula / breastmilk
To be clean - nappies / barrier cream
Somewhere to sleep - moses / cot / crib
To travel safely - carseat

Those are you basic. There are lots of other things that are helpful to have e.g. a changing mat incase they wee during changing, a baby monitor to give you peace of mind, a perfect prep if you are formula feeding

But there are also lots and lots of things out there that either you dont need, or you dont need the top of the range all singing dancing version e.g. a £150 bouncer chair

Megan2018 · 19/03/2019 11:41

Moses baskets give me the creeps for some reason - I don't know why but they are just weird. I've been offered one for downstairs but I'm not sure I can bring myself to have one in the house! They literally give me the heebies.

I want a Tutti Bambini Cozee for bedroom and thought we could use carrycot from pushchair for downstairs sleeps. Will get a bigger cot/cot bed eventually for own room but can't see there is any hurry for that.

MyBreadIsEggy · 19/03/2019 11:50

I quickly learned after the first was born that all I actually needed was:

  • Nappies
-Wipes -Clothes -Sling -Blankets
  • A pair of boobs

Personal choice, but mine sleep with me from the day they are born. It makes breastfeeding easier, and it can be done perfectly safely if you know how.
Newborns really don’t need much “stuff” at all!

(Obviously if choosing to bottle feed, you need all that equipment too)

Florencenotflo · 19/03/2019 11:51

We've still got all of DD's stuff. So a next to me crib (will get a new mattress), bean bag thing which she loved. It's just a bean bag with straps, she napped on that in the early days. We need to get a new swinging chair thing because dd's broke just as she outgrew it.

We have the silver cross pioneer still from Dd. I must admit I have gone off it, just because it's so bulky, I'm lusting after the mamas and papas armadillo flip XT. But DH is too sensible and we wouldn't get much for our silver cross (local selling sites are full of them) to justify spending another £400. Dd was only in it until she was about 10 months then we got an umbrella fold pushchair.

Seeing the mw tomorrow and I'm hoping I get a scan date so I can either start selling DD's clothes or start sorting and washing them! I just really want to get organised after the anomaly scan. Then I have a consultant appointment tomorrow afternoon, then my VBAC appointment Friday. I'm just hoping they don't try and talk me out of a csection. I've done my research and decided that's best for me and baby. I just don't want to have to fight for it I always back down too easily.

DustyDoorframes · 19/03/2019 11:53

We marched on muslins! Both mine were cheerful chuckers, so a muslin on the shoulder, a muslin wherever they laid their head, and muslins to hand EVERYWHERE. It's not desperately absorbent for milk, but brilliant for the curds stage when it comes up again...
Re getting stuff- I wouldn't buy too much in advance, you never know what is essential and what is useless for you until your particular baby turns up. And people will often be very keen to hand things down or lend things which is extra good for trying things on the off chance.

Florencenotflo · 19/03/2019 11:56

@DustyDoorframes we went through hundreds of Muslins! Dd was so dribbly when she fed I needed about 3 per feed strategically placed to save me changing her clothes every time!

Karigan195 · 19/03/2019 12:05

Personally I went to my local material shop and purchased a ton of fleece material. That lightweight stuff. Don’t need to hem it. Makes sheets, blankets and favourite ‘cuddle toy’ which is easily replaced with a new piece as it dusintergrates and wipe up clothes.

Karigan195 · 19/03/2019 12:07

How’s everyone doing on the weight front? I think I’ve put on about 5kg :(. This does not seem good to me. 16 weeks and 5 days!

TwittleBee · 19/03/2019 12:16

Just wanna say, regarding things you need. If you can get a cot rather than a Moses basket in your room then go for that as DS outgrew his Moses basket by 3 months and apparently that's rather common. Also don't buy a wooden wicker Moses basket, we purchased one from Mothercare and DS and I both cut ourselves, it was so bloomin sharp. Mothercare refused to acknowledge it was faulty though!

On the weight front, I'm still not back up to pre pregnancy weight. Being sick really had made me lose it.

Stroan · 19/03/2019 12:24

Also not buying very much for this one. A second hand sleepyhead and a Tripp Trapp high hair with newborn attachment so we can be hands free at mealtimes!

We have everything from DD, all gender neutral and some "boys" stuff because I hated girly stuff!

I'm also in the muslin club. DD had reflux and could soak 20 muslins a day. I didn't leave the house without piles of them.

One thing to remember is that there's very little you need urgently that you can't get easily! Amazon Prime was my best friend, I ordered many essentials at 3am...
