Hope this works....! Here's hoping July is the month for

  • proper bumps not fat looking tummies
  • feeling them move!
OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MotherofZ · 17/07/2007 09:31

I think the DP jeans are fab - lasted from when bump started poping out to when I went into hospital with contraction. Same with their black trousers - fab for work.

Housemum · 17/07/2007 09:34

Pecka - I don't know if the maternity companies like to flatter people with the sizes or something - I'm a 14, but had to buy size 12 maternity jeans/trousers - even if I grow a huge bump , I can't imagine my backside expanding to fill the space in the 14s! (Though Mothercare sizing is weird - I have both 12 and 14 trousers that fit, yet the 14 top is straining at the buttons)

Tabimum - 2 is fine for a bed - we had a cot not a cot-bed, and DD1 went straight into a bed at just-turning-2 with a guard rail (get them from Argos/Toys R Us etc) Would be a good idea to do now so that she's not being pushed out of her cot-bed, rather she's getting a new "big-girl bed" - perhaps let her choose a new duvet cover to get her excited about it.

Housemum · 17/07/2007 09:37

For smart black trousers either casual or work, Red Herring at Debenhams have some nice ones - £25. I needed to get a 12 when I'm normally 14 as the bum was baggy, but now I have a pair that fits they are v flattering on the legs. Only disadvantage is no pocket (when you are constantly blowing your nose that's a real pain - end up tucking a tissue in the waistband only to find it falling down your leg!!)

mixedmama · 17/07/2007 09:38

LOL at that house mum...

buzzybee · 17/07/2007 09:42

Well have decided to take the plunge and tell the bosses at work. I'm thinking they must be guessing by now as I'm definitely popping out a bit although have managed to get by so far on a selection of work clothes that I already had with lots of lycra in them (velvety stretchy skirts etc) so they won't have noticed any change in wardrobe.
Have written a letter as I feel I need to set the context a bit and will print out and put on their desks tomorrow - think that's nicer than email. I'm a bit sad I won't get to see the looks on their faces but somewhat apprehensive as to how they'll react so figure its best this way (am I being chicken? )

Am feeling much more positive now I've had that good blood test result (and on a side track entirely was told that nuchal after 13 weeks considered to be not very reliable so may have had all that worry for nothing - why did no-one tell me? )

mixedmama · 17/07/2007 09:53

The sonographer said that to me when she was doing the scan, that she couldnt really tell that much in the way of problems (is the nuchal scan the 12 wk one).

Mrswizz · 17/07/2007 10:04

I got some great smart grey trousers from Jojomamanbebe, have got lots of stuff from them. Their sale is great, loads of stuff for under a tenner and you also get the mumsnet discount. Bargain! The sizing was a bit big, but they have great contraptions built in for adjusting the size.

I have to use a belt with my topshop maternity jeans or I get a bad case if builder's bum. It goes quite well with the big belly - almost the full set of builder's bum and builder's paunch. It's a look I suppose.

Mrswizz · 17/07/2007 10:07

Good luck at work Buzzybee.

claraq · 17/07/2007 10:43

Am at all these people still in normal jeans and/or not looking pregnant yet. I don't think I could hide it any more however hard I tried and doubt I could get my ordinary jeans past my thighs . Mind you my due date is 1 Dec so I must be one of the furthest along on this board!

Having said that have the same problems as others regarding sizes - bought a size 14 cropped jeans from Next which I really like but have problems keeping them up. I am usually a 12/14 in the trouser department so should perhaps have gone for a 12.

I do want to get some decent maternity jeans (full length) but am going to leave it until I am further along as I will really need them for the winter.

mimicakey · 17/07/2007 10:47

Looking good Mrswizz! I got some stuff from jojo.. in the sale too, definitely bargain city. Agree that things are a bit big - hoping to grow into the belly bits but don't want my arms to get that much fatter!

Buzzy - you have to tell them in writing at some point, so you're not chicken doing it that way!

Too lazy to scroll through, but whoever said something about cramp, me too!! I keep getting cramp in my calves, which is really common apparently but no one knows why pg ladies get it so there's no remedy! I wouldn't mind if it was in the day but 4am is not cool!!

Got my scan on Fri and am mega excited to find out the sex, so you can count on babycakey being asleep with legs crossed!

Tried pg yoga the other week but just can't get on with it. When they say things like relax your skull and release the skin on your forehead I just get angry!

Nbg · 17/07/2007 10:50

mimicakey, cramp is normally due to lack of potassium and calcium.

I was told calcium others have been told potassium

I was given the advice of drinking hot milky drinks before bed, milky desserts, cereal and things. Potassium is easy, a couple of bananas before bed!

mimicakey · 17/07/2007 10:52

Ahh, interesting! Maybe it's the potassium then; not been eating many bananas lately. Thanks Nbg.

Neuro · 17/07/2007 10:57

Mixedmama i am not being nosey but the thought of my baby visiting it's fathers family and me not being able to go/unwelcome would kill me so you try and BREASTFEED YOUR BAPS OFF!!!!!!! HA HA HA.

i can't stand it when families that pull that kind of stuff. Don't they consider the effect it might have on children, not to mention their own family member?

I am assuming you haven't tried to burn their house down or anything in the past?!!!!

I had a load of blood tests, the ones that check for sexual diseases like HIV as well as iron etc, a week or so ago and midwife said she'd only be in touch if there was a problem. And she hasn't been in touch so i feel relieved even though i have been v good with sexual health stuff. Another thing off the checklist.

AND this morning i was lying forward on my side in bed half asleep and i swear i felt a definite movement. But now i think 'was i dreaming?'. It made me wide awake...

Mrswizz · 17/07/2007 10:57

Can I have bananas and custard before bed then, for medicinal purposes only! Cramp again last night, 3.00 am and 5.30 am. Perhaps I'm in training for baby waking me.

Neuro · 17/07/2007 10:59

relax your skull and release the skin on your forehead

???!!!! that just made me laugh outloud in the office. I must do some work

Nbg · 17/07/2007 10:59

I'd give it a go Mrsw.

Got to be worth it.

I also try not to stretch as that definatley sets it off.

Mrswizz · 17/07/2007 11:04

I'm quite impressed by you guys who are only just telling their work. I couldn't hide it I was puking so much early on. Mind you, small office so its harder to hide.

Neuro · 17/07/2007 11:04

Nbg a doctor told me years ago that women shouldn't eat really more than one banana a day.

I used to get a lot of headaches, so i visted the doc, he felt my pulse and totally randomly said do you eat a lot of bananas, which at the time i was (2 or 3 a day i don't know why) so he said limit yourself to 1.

Cramps might be due to dehydration too isn't it?

claraq · 17/07/2007 11:05

Mimicakey - oh oh I am off to a pregnancy yoga session this morning. I used to really like yoga before I had dd but wasn't so hot on the ummmmmming. Pilates was better as it was straight forward exercise. But I want to try and do whatever I can to prevent back pain as had a lot of problems with this in my last pregnancy and didn't have a 25lb toddler to tote about then.....

Will let you know if it involves relaxing my skull

Nbg · 17/07/2007 11:05

Omg really?!!

How bizzare.

I went through a phase of gobbling about 3 a day. I did it more for energy purposes when ds was sleeping badly.

buzzybee · 17/07/2007 11:11

Leg cramps, sad to say am something of an expert on these as have suffered quite badly for at least 10 years. Was on prescription quinine which worked quite well but of course have stopped that! Things that work for me: try not to get cold feet at any point, keep your fluids up - tonic water is good because the bitter flavour is from quinine (see above) but not sure what's a safe level when PG, if you feel it coming on lie on your back with your knees up and feet flat on the bed, if you get an attack go and drink a big glass of water and/or get in the shower and get your feet warmed up good and proper - standing up generally is best and stomping about to get the circulation going, for some reason I find I'm more likely to get it when lying on my side - think its because you cross legs a bit and stop circulation. Hope some of that helps!

buzzybee · 17/07/2007 11:15

Thanks Mrswizz. I work mostly with blokes who'd hardly notice if I cut all hair off!

Neuro · 17/07/2007 11:17

Nbg you might be different to me though and maybe bananas really work for you, but i'd check out with doc/MW just in case.

mixedmama · 17/07/2007 11:18

Neuro - My only sin seems to be expressing my opinion interms of what I want my son to eat, not wanting him eating bananas at 12 weeks and not wanting him sleeping on a very high double bed from 5 months by himself in a dark room when i have provided a travel cot. Basically, MIL has had children and therefore knows better and prefers to ignore and take DS out of the room away from me after a hard day at work and completely ignore my very existence - after long arguments with DH told me they dont want me there and I dont want to be there - send DS one day a week so that I am not depriving him of his GP altho I have to force myself to do it and when the day comes they will explain why i dont go with him.

Sorry for the rant - a very sore subject with me.

mixedmama · 17/07/2007 11:18

Lol about the banana thing by the way I thought they were supposed to be good for you.
