@rollerskaterdata I know! Hence why I got HR involved, luckily it’s all sorted now but still fairlyyy awkward in the office...

and I have been so stunned at how many people spot the badge and still shunt you out of the way for a seat. I really hate asking because I do think it should be up to the individual but some days I’ve just had to, especially on the journey home. I’m considering wearing a go pro and making a documentary! I think it would help if the train companies did a bit more, like reminding people to look around them and be aware if they’re in a priority seat.

Reastie · 14/03/2019 09:15

Feeling very sorry for those not being given a seat. Btw best tactic I’ve found for getting a bit of space around me in lifts/other places where it’s very tight is to cough and sniff a lot and look ill. People will always avoid wanting to get too close for fear of getting ill! Diesnt work so well if they have loud headphones and in their own world though. I also find it better to ask a specific person to give up their seat (ie those hogging the oriority seat) than to generally ask the carriage as a whole. When you ask a group of people there seems to be a group mentality that someone else will offer and to hold fast to their seat, when you direct it to one person it’s fifficult for them to ignore.

FWIW once you have a baby I was really surprised how helpful commuters and Londoners were when I was navigating the underground etc with buggy. I was really worried about all the steps but every single time I had someone straight away offer to help carry my buggy up or down every flight of stairs in stations. It was a huge pleasant surprise.

Mw apt later today here. 25 weeks so not sure if she’ll measure me or do blood test early. Must remember to do wee sample!

WeeBean · 14/03/2019 09:55

Can't believe the battles some of you are having to get seats! People are so rude!

Anyone else been getting rib pain? Mine is under my left boob, can get quite painful! Last night I had it on both sides high up and slightly lower down, ended up on and off the phone with the hospital and in the end paracetamol and a warm bath helped.

I'm so ready for June and to never do this again. I know that probably sounds really ungrateful and I can't wait for this baby but me and pregnancy will never be friends.

toomanyflatwhites · 14/03/2019 10:45

I'll second your comment @Reastie about people helping with buggies - mind you I generally find a get a seat every day and no resistance if I have to ask for one, so maybe I've been lucky!!
I'm 6 months pregnant today - yay! But also - Another 3 months?? 😱
I find that even if I have had an ok sleep, by the time I get to work having wrangled the toddler, biked to nursery with her and then to the tube (it's not very far...) and then done my not-horrendous commute I arrive at work utterly exhausted and wanting to lie down. I seem to get a bit better as the day goes on but the mornings are my lowest ebb for energy - is that just me?

Spargle · 14/03/2019 10:46

To all the people swigging Gaviscon from the bottle: have you considered the tablets? I don’t know if my experience is universal, but my main problem is that my oesophagus gets upset by the acid, so I suck one of the tablets quite slowly, which puts the antacid over the affected area over a period of time, rather than for a short time. Normally, three tablets is the maximum it takes to fix things for the present (I am very aware that this might be because my heartburn is not that bad).

I use the double action tablets, as I love the alginate (or whatever it’s called) part of it - I feel that it’s more effective than the other sort. I’d be really interested if any Gaviscon-swiggers would give it a go, and say if they actually do get better results in terms of faster or better relief (because I don’t fancy swigging it from the bottle, obviously! 😉).

I think I’m going through packet, or one-and-a-bit packets, every two days or so. It mostly doesn’t show itself before the afternoon, which is something!

Spargle · 14/03/2019 12:13

(To clarify - by “a packet”, I mean 8 tablets - a blister pack. Not the 48 tablets that I try to buy in a box!)

Dustyzest · 14/03/2019 12:20

@weebean YES to rib pain! It’s like the bits in between my ribs are stretching and it’s so painful and hard to ignore!

fee1234 · 14/03/2019 12:21

@Spargle I've actually started using 'Peptac peppermint liquid' (sugar free) recently and it's been great. I did use tablets but I was spending so much money on them every week, then I found out about the 'minor ailments' service at my local pharmacy, basically you go in and tell them you are pregnant and you get loads of medications for free without needing doctors prescription, and I said I was suffering from heartburn and they gave me a big bottle of this stuff for free. I believe you can use the service to get things like pile cream and other stuff. I'm in Scotland but assume England would have that service available too?

stellarfox · 14/03/2019 13:55

@Weebean My rib pain is SO painful. It’s like a stabbing pain in my right ribs front and back. I went to the doctors but she said it’s muscular and nothing they can do! I’m sat in the office now feeling so uncomfortable 😣 Looking forward to going home and lying down!

WeeBean · 14/03/2019 14:09

Sorry others are suffering the rib pain too! It's horrible! Just another glorious pregnancy symptom though, a nice warm bath really did help me last night if it's an option for either of you ladies. Of course the relief is only temporary 🙄

fee1234 · 14/03/2019 15:00

Just had my 28 week appointment. Got anti-d which wasn't as bad as I was expecting, it was just a loonnnng injection. Baby measuring around 70th centile.

Kescilly · 14/03/2019 15:35

@fee1234 I’m glad the injection wasn’t too bad!

Now that I’m finally feeling better, I’m as going to pull together the stats. If you’re new to the thread or haven’t contributed so far, feel free to post your details! Most people are sharing due date, boy/girl/surprise, what # child this is, your age, and your location.

Giving everyone plenty of notice so that I can start the next thread with the updated list!

rollerskaterdata · 14/03/2019 16:22

@Spargle which tablets are you using? I was prescribed peptac liquid but it's so disgusting and makes me nauseous. I would rather have heartburn than nausea so once again not using anything now!

fee1234 · 14/03/2019 16:26

@rollerskaterdata that's so strange I actually quite like the peptac liquid! It's mint flavour and I know the aniseed one is supposed to taste quite horrible.

rollerskaterdata · 14/03/2019 17:04

@fee1234 I have the aniseed one so that's probably why! I'll try the mint one and see if I get on with it

swiftfox · 14/03/2019 17:26

Sorry for those suffering from rib pain! I've not had that (yet) but it sounds painful. I had acid reflux in the first trimester, and opted for a really bland diet - seems to have worked but now my problems are at the, erm, other end of the GI system.

On a lighter note, is anyone else really bored with the maternity clothes they have? I started showing early so I've been wearing them since before Christmas. I don't really want to spend a ton of money seeing that I've got about twelve weeks left, but I'm especially bored of the five work outfits I have!

Dustyzest · 14/03/2019 19:07

@swiftfox I’m kind of the opposite. I’ve probably only just started showing and no one will believe I’m at the six month mark so I can’t wear any of the stuff I bought yet as it’s all too big! But my normal stuff is too small. I’ve been in this weird limbo for ages. I’m also way more prominent in the afternoon, so what looks respectable first thing is suddenly very in your face by the end of the day Blush

Heyha · 14/03/2019 20:30

I'm still just about in normal tops (jumpers) but my trousers situation is doing my head in! My maternity jeans fall down without a belt on my hips but my belt is now too small 😂 I am in love with my leggings but it's been too cold to wear them really. Oh and all my 'normal' outdoors coats are officially not doing up any more so the maternity coat is going to have to do everything, I'd been keeping it for going to the shops etc but if I keep wearing my normal coat to feed my animals I'm going to end up busting out of it 😂

Heyha · 14/03/2019 20:33

I have a neat little bump all at the front so unless people see me sideways on they don't believe I'm at 6 months either @dustyzest
I'm hoping I don't measure too small next week but I've a feeling I might be in the lower centiles.

Dustyzest · 14/03/2019 21:05

I just look gassy! 🙈

SassehMonsta · 15/03/2019 08:51

I am so fed up with all my maternity clothes too. I have around 5-6 tops and maybe 4 pairs of trousers - one work pair, 2 jeans and one pair of comfy flowery ones, but they are very thin. I have been wearing the black jeans to work (shh - no one has noticed yet!).
I have a photoshoot tomorrow and I am stuck as to what to wear! DH and DD haven't decided what they are wearing either, so meh, we will just turn up I guess!

Yesterday, baby didn't move much in the morning, when he usually has a disco. Even after a cold, sweet drink and some time laying on my side. So into the MDU (maternity day unit) for monitoring and a scan for blood flow and water volume. After 20 mins on the monitor, he woke up and had his usual disco, just 5 hours later than usual.

Bit peeved about work - I called at 7:30am as I left for the hospital, left a message on the HR answerphone, knowing they don't start until 8am - we work on the same floor as HR, so asked them to pass the message on. Got a phonecall from my manager around 9:30 worried that I hadn't shown up for work. Turns out one of HR was away yesterday and the other was in a meeting until 10am and hadn't seen the message beforehand. Feel guilty and my manager didn't seem best impressed >_< I couldn't help it guys!! I should probably have sent him a text, but didn't think about it at the time, was distracted!

29 weeks today, have midwife next Tuesday for another measurement and chat and stuff. Haven't been taking iron tablets but my iron levels have improved so "RASSSSSPPP" to the doctor who prescribed them. Glad I don't have to commute more than 10-20 mins in the car (traffic dependant). I have 3 weeks left, of which next week I am off Monday and Wednesday. Hurrah!

Reastie · 15/03/2019 09:28

Re cost of heart burn medication. Get it on your repeat prescription! My gp showed me a list on her computer of all the options she was able to prescribe me (tablets and liquid of varying flavours and strengths) and let me pick out the one I wanted! It’s now on infinite repeat until I give birth Grin .

I’m not actually too bad with maternity clothes this time as have bought a few bits, been given some and got a couple of bits from eBay. Last time I literally had 2 pairs of trousers, 2 tops and a dress and I just had to wash everything all the time. This time I’ve tried to get nursing dresses so they continue being useful after I’m pg. I’ve got 4 half price in the frugi sale and hoping to sell on afterwards so hoping they won’t add up to too much.

Mw was fantastic yesterday. You may remember my useless mh nurse apt about 3 weeks ago? Mw said she [mh nurse] had referred me to local mh pg services but they had discharged me as apparently they tried to call twice p, left no message, and the fact I didn’t answer the phone means they discharge me! No message, no letter for me to call them. I was quite Shock . Mw has been chasing them up and told them on the phone when I was there it’s not good enough!

hexagon01 · 15/03/2019 16:52

Oh Reastie I hadn’t thought about going to the doctors for a heartburn related prescription but I think I will, I can’t really afford all of this gaviscon, thanks for the tip!

Luckily I seem to have a lot of stretchy dresses that go out at the hips so I’m not doing so bad for maternity clothes. I also am able to wear loads of dresses I haven’t worn for ages, I was breastfeeding until a couple of months ago which limited my wardrobe in a totally different way!

rollerskaterdata · 15/03/2019 20:08

@Heyha it's interesting how people feel entitled to comment on your body shape whilst preg, I've repeatedly been told I have a neat bump and don't even look preggo from behind which is a compliment I suppose but doesn't change the fact someone is still commenting on my body and feel they have the right to!

29+1 today and feeling daggers in my bum when I try to ahem, pass a stool Blush called MDAU who think I might have haemorrhoids and told me I need to speak to GP. Pregnancy is so glamorous 🙄

Still next week is my last week at work, yaye! After which I'll be slobbing on the sofa for the last 10 weeks. Or nesting. It's started already!

Heyha · 15/03/2019 23:01

@rollerskaterdata it's only really at work anyone comments and our section of the staffroom is known for being brutal but brilliant so I don't mind too much, I've dished out similar to the men 😂 I know most people probably aren't in that kind of work dynamic though so imagine it must get very annoying.

I do teach one autistic lad who I use as my barometer- whenever I bump into him it's always a hug and usually 'you're not even that fat' or 'wow you need to buy a bigger coat!'. He doesn't normally do much in the way of being sociable with adults so I let him get on with it as he also generally makes me laugh with whatever his observation is, bless him.
