Thanks HIWBB, they just don't get the logic but I'm glad you do!

Just shared this on the pg 'room' - I've still been suffering with my ankles and fingers puffing up of an evening and its been really uncomfortable but tonight I've been dipping my feet in a bowl of really cold water. It's lurverleee!!!! If you've been suffering, give it a go, I'd highly recommend it!

Top tip PLP!!

I'm off to choose a carpet for the nursery in a minute. Unfortunately I've run out of steam and haven't done any painting since Monday. Sore back etc. Hopefully I'll be able to do an hour later.

OMG I've just noticed that the sides of my bum/thighs feel really squashed in this chair I'm sitting in! I'M FAT FAT FAT FAT but loving it

EdieMcredie · 11/07/2007 10:00

Good luck with the carpet HIWBB. Luckily the carpet in our nursery is quite new as it's a loft conversion. It's a lovely room, really light and airy with a gorgeous staircase. And it's right next to our room. Everything is ready, just waiting for nursery furniture.

Hopeitwontbebig · 11/07/2007 10:11

Thanks Edie. We don't seem to have much luck with our carpets and animals.

My PIL's Jack Russell got himself shut in the loft last November when DH was in hospital and ripped our brand new carpet and underlay

The carpet in the nursery, the cat decided to use the corner of the room as her toilet, it smelt so bad we had to cut a huge chunk of the carpet and underlay away! Hence new carpet there!!

Hi all,

Well, I've just come home from my consultant appointment and I feel like crying from relief!! The guy was really lovely and as soon as he saw me waddle towards the room, he was asking how I was etc. I told him all about my hips, expecting the usual 'take some codeine' response but he really took it on board. He genuinely cared!! When it was time to get on the bed thingy so he could have a feel of my belly, he asked me to show him how I do it and also how I get down and gave me a few tips about getting around and in and out of the car etc. While I was on the bed thingy, he pressed on my pubic bone and I said ouch, then he pressed my hips from the front and I said OUCH, then he put his hands under my hips and lifted and I nearly hit the roof!!!! The very fact that he knew exactly what to do was so reassuring! (even if I am in agony now!). He has now officially diagnosed me with 'sacro illiac pain/spd' (does that mean I have both?). And, I've been referred for physio - yay!!!!!!!

Everything else is fine. I asked about the stitch thing and he said that often pg ladies get 'unexplainable abdominal pain' and unless its prolonged or triggered by the baby moving, it should be fine. He didn't fob me off at all and was very attentive and reassuring!

All in all, a pleasant visit! I just spoke with my bf (who had her baby last week) and she had the same guy and he was lovely to her as well - gives me hope that there are some really lovely people out there!

Now, I'm off to the dentist for a check up and to tell him about my toothache - I'll update you later!

sophus, hope all is well? xxx

Hi to everybody else (((hugs)))

That's great PLP - so glad it all went well for you

laksa · 11/07/2007 12:00

Morning guys,

hwbb, we have the same problem, have had to rip the carpet up in the hallway due to cat using it as a toilet I am still waiting for dh to lay flooring down to replace it.

Bigsea, love the name change!

Dal, good luck with you gtt test.

Purplelost, I am having my mum and dh as birthing partners, I figured I needed a backup just in case dh is useless on the day and faints or something

Mrsmar, I feel the same about my legs, my thighs and butt are sooo fat. I went swimming yesterday in my maternity suit. I have one which is very low cut on the leg which is definitely not flattering, however it covers my rampant ladygarden nicely so I don't have to shave/wax my sideburns

Have read all the stories on the other thread on things said in labour and to be honest am not worried about the dignity thing, I'm the type who tucks her knickers into her skirt etc, so have lost most of mine over the years anyway.

The thing I worry about most is the way some of the midwives/doctors seem to treat labouring women. I find my skin is alot more sensitive now that i'm pregnant and want people who are sympathetic and kind, not rough and rude

Pennypops, hope your rib pain is not too bad. I find the day after I go to my pregnancy yoga class my rib pain is much better, they do lots of stretching exercises which create more room (temporarily) in your midsection and kind of unscrunch your insides.

Canadianmum, ralph fiennes...hmm wouldn't kick him out of bed but would prefer johnny depp or that blonde guy from Lost

Last night I got some weird feelings in my bump, felt like the baby was near the front and was about to burst out of my belly. I couldn't stand up straight as the pressure was too much. Is this a braxton hicks?? My whole bump didn't go all hard though like I thought it would just felt extreme pressure like the baby would pop out ala the alien film.

Ok, have prattled on enough. hope everyone is feeling good.

xx

laksa · 11/07/2007 12:04

forgot to say, sophus, sorry about your mum, will be thinking of you.

Welcome to all the newbies too.

Rin23 · 11/07/2007 12:44

Great to read about helpful Dr visit, PLP - it makes such a difference doesn't it!? Hope you manage to get help with the physio.

I agree with Laksa about the preg birth stories - i'm expecting the worst so nothing hugely suprised me. Was quite funny actually (you gotta laugh).
Also - re braxton hicks - I'm not sure if I've had them either, but I have felt a sort of stretching feeling like my bump is getting bigger - not sure if it's just that or poss b.hs.

Dont know how you cope with animals, HIWBB, I'm nervous enough about coping with a baby...

Hopeitwontbebig · 11/07/2007 12:45

I don't cope Rin

Hi everyone!

PLP - what a relief that you have been referred to physio - hope that it helps!
Has Sophus been back on at all to update us on her mum?

My appt went well today - main thing i was worried about was how baby would be growing since my appetite has been poor for a while - but my doc explained that a mum needs to be quite malnourished for the baby to suffer and then I saw bub on scan (face on) and for the first time, looks like a real little person now - sooo cute!!
Get results of GTT tomorrow and appts have moved to every two weeks - it is getting so exciting! Am going to try and remember how excited I feel as I start getting more uncomfortable!

How is everyone else?

Chattyhan · 11/07/2007 14:11

Hello all

PLP glad you had a good doctors appointment it sounds like he was very thorough. I like hearing about all the nurseries - we don't have one lo will be in with us and then sharing with DS so no decorating/carpets/furniture for me - at least that means no money!

I went swimming yesterday and keep getting stitches in my bump - it was really uncomfortable! Won't be doing that very much!

Yoga was good there are a couple of people in my yoga class with SPD and the general advice is keep your legs together!

Anyway not really much to say just Hi everyone xx

MrsMar · 11/07/2007 14:13

Hello everyone,

HIWBB - you're plagued with badly behaved animals! Poor you! I'm having my carpets cleaned in a couple of weeks as I've had problems with a different kind of animal - builders! Definitely preferable to having to replace them all!

Glad you had a great appointment PLP, it makes such a difference when someone cares doesn't it? Even if the treatment is the same, but feeling you get when you think you've been treated sympathatically is better than any drugs they can prescribe!

In response to your earlier q (blimey I'm rubbish at replying!) PLP, we're off to the south of France on Friday, ferry goes at about 2pm, we'll stop half way at a hotel to break up the journey, and we should get there around lunchtime on Saturday. We're going to my Mum and Dad's place which is about 30 miles inland from St Tropez. I absolutely love it there, we're up in the mountains a bit, away from the crowds. Mind you, the village where the house is has become very popular of late, Mum and dad bought their house there about 25 years ago, but the Beckhams have recently bought a house in the same village, so we do get a few paps around as well as few escapees from St Trop (too much jewellery, too much designer clobber, too tanned!) We've been going on holiday to that part of the world for years, as my mum lived in Nice from when she was 9 years old until she was 20.

Can anyone feel bits of their baby or work out the position? I'm obssessed with knowing what he's doing and what position he's in!! I'm sure I can feel a slightly firmer rounded bit to one side so I think that's his head, which would mean currently a transverse lie, but I have no idea really. I'm such a fatty that I'm sure it prevents me feeling more! I wish we could buy a mini scanner for home so I could have a check to see where he is, at my last scan the sonographer was pregnant with her first and I asked her if she was constantly scanning herself. She kind of blushed and said no, but I bet she did! I would!

I'm not too bothered about the dignity thing either, I met dh when we were both crew on a yacht race and for the first month when I really fancied him and was flirting like crazy I didn't have a single shower or wash my hair, I wore the same pair of shorts and bikini, wore no make up, and had to use a tiny pump action toilet separated from the main living quarters by a thing plastic sheet! Oh and we had to carry our used toilet paper out through the main cabin and throw it over board as the toilet kept blocking, so I figure my dh has seen me looking pretty undignified; smelly, unwashed and carrying pooey loo paper past everyone having their breakfast!

Crikey, I've rambled, I'm demob happy!

Have a lovely day everyone xx

Pennypops · 11/07/2007 14:22

Hello everyone,

Hopey I hope you have by now managed to source carpet for nursery and that none of your animal menagerie causes you too much grief!

PLP - am v happy for you that you have been referred for proper treatment for your SPD. I've had grief with rib pain and thats nowhere in the same league - you must have had a really tough time of it. I agree with you totally that a sympathetic manner makes a world of difference - especially when you're feeling pretty delicate anyway.

Dal - really glad your appt went well too. Must have been lovely seeing yours face on for the first time.

Well I have just come back from my 32 week appt. Had to wait an hour and 15 minutes past my appt time which didn't get us off to the best start If I'd known I'd be waiting that long I'd have taken a packed lunch.

Seemed ok but am a bit concerned as she didn't check the urine sample I bought - I would have reminded her but I forgot as well. Are they always meant to check that for sugar and protein? She also said she wasn't 100% sure baby was head down because my abdomen was so hard and she couldn't feel properly - surely at 32 weeks every pregnant womans abdomen is pretty damn firm? Anyway, she thought she found it in the end and I'm not too worried as can feel walloping kicks into my ribs which would indicate that the head is pointing south!

Am down to 2 week appts now - feels like the end is in sight!

xxxx to all.

Pennypops · 11/07/2007 14:24

Have a lovely time MrsMar!!

dal21 · 11/07/2007 15:08

Thanks Pennypops!

Think your midwife should have checked your urine, not sure what to advise. Are you happy to wait til your next appt in 2 weeks to have it checked? I'm not sure how essential these checks are - especially if you feel ok?

My baby is breech at the moment which is normal for this stage apparently. Makes sense since most of the movement i feel is in the lower abdomen - obviously this baby likes to kick a lot!
Isnt it amazing when you move to fortnightly appts? Makes the end feel near!

MrsMar · 11/07/2007 16:10

Hi Penny, thanks for thatm

Wow how exciting to be at 32 weeks, although I'm at 30 weeks, it just sounds so much further on than me, esp with having appts every two weeks!

Can you go to your gp for a urine check? Have you had reason to worry in the past/had anything turn up in previous tests? If not, I'd be inclined to wait for two weeks, but I'm a bit lassez faire tbh, I didn't have a urine test at my last two appts because I forgot (one was with GP and one was with mw)

EmLouT · 11/07/2007 16:13

Hi all. Finally had a chance to catch up a bit and thought I would pop in and say hello. I have just finished work for the day and am now on annual leave until I start my maternity leave in August . Can't wait for a bit of a rest!

Toadstool - I hope the house move is going ok! I remember the nightmare only too well.

FioFioJane - In the last few weeks I have been told that my baby is breech, transverse and in the right position. I don't think it matters that much until about 34 weeks as they move around so much.

On the pethidine front - my NCT classes are against anything but natural child birth which is a bit too much for me but I think you need to take these things with a pinch of salt. When I was in hospital early on in my pregnancy they gave me pethidine and it made me feel really sick and spaced out - kind of like the bad side of being drunk. I don't think I would take it again.

Anyway, I am off to the airport now to pick up my parents who are flying in to visit for a couple of weeks. I sense a big shopping trip with my mum coming on .

Hope everyone is well!

dal21 · 11/07/2007 16:28

My midwife is all for whatever gets you through labour - natural/ epidural and if intervention is needed, then fine too. The only thing she is advises against is the use of pethadine. She basically doesnt like the impact it has on the mothers who are birthing.

Hopeitwontbebig · 11/07/2007 16:42

I'd agree with that. I didn't like what it did to me when I had DS2. It didn't make a jot of difference to the amount of pain I felt, but it just made me go a bit 'bonkers'. It was also given too near the end, I ended up delivering only 30 minutes later. Poor DS2 was really drowsy the first night. When I had a shower after the delivery, I VERY nearly passed out, it was horrible.

Meant to say PLP thank goodness you're getting some proper treatment re your SPD/Sacro-iliac pain. Hope that happens quickly for you.

Pennypops, that was annoying having to wait so long for your appointment. She didn't sound very competent did she!

MrsMar, your holiday sounds like it'll be fab! I like the stinky introduction you and DH had with each other.... slightly different from the usual a) mustn't show new boyfriend how much or how fast I can eat... must convey bird like eating habit. b) mustn't let on that I need to have anything to do with toilet related matters!

Chose carpet, they're coming on Friday to measure. Kitchen company are coming tomorrow morning to measure and design kitchen. Then building work starts in just over a week. It's all go here!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
FioFioJane · 11/07/2007 16:46

EmmalouT, I had a midwife appointment today and she said the baby is cephalic but basically they dont really care until 35 weeks onwards as they change their minds anyway (esp with 3rd pregs)

I am bordeline anameic but apart from that everything seemed ok

FioFioJane · 11/07/2007 16:47

anaemic

dal21 · 11/07/2007 16:48

HIWBB - that doesnt sound great at all, but your story basically backs up what she had experienced with women who had taken it!

Wow we are all in DIY frenzy! We are having a bathroom ripped out and replaced the week after next; then painting the kitchen and then all the major stuff is done - touchwood (famous last words) before the little one arrives! feels as though i have been picking colours/ flooring and curtains ever since we moved in!

Popped onto the aug thread earlier to see what we have ahead of us. Think there is a fair bit of discomfort to go!

MrsMar · 11/07/2007 18:17

HIWBB - good luck with all the building works, I'm so glad mine's all done (bar a bit of built in wardrobe building in August)
I don't envy you. The end result is great, but boy it's hard work. Mind you, we do have a teeny flat, so having a new kitchen put in as we did last Dec involved major disruption, and you know all about my bathroom woes! I don't even care that we haven't got the heated towel rail up yet, I'm just glad we've got a useable loo!!

DH and I did have a very stinky introduction! There's definitely no coyness about bodily functions between us after having spent the first few months after we met on a 60 foot boat with 13 other people!

Dal - I hope the bathroom gets done nice and quickly and you don't have the same problem I have ie no other functioning loo when they rip the old one out! eek! Not fun! Your midwife sounds great by the way. I had heard bad things about pethidine, that it makes you really feel out of control. If I was going down the route of pain killers (other than G&A) I think I'd rather an epidural as it doesn't mess with your mind quite so much, esp as my midwife says that all the epidurals they administer at St Georges are what they call "mobile" allowing a little, allbeit restricted, movement, so you don't have to lie on your back, but can get on all fours to protect your perineum a bit.

canadianmum · 11/07/2007 19:20

PLP - glad you had a good experience re: your SPD, hopefully they can give you some exercises or tips and a support belt too, I have heard that can make a big difference.

Pennypops - having previously had severe pre-eclampsia I am paranoid about getting all the checks done. Was your BP ok at your appt? If it was and you haven't any swelling, then it is probably fine to wait 2 weeks until your next protein check, otherwise I would see your GP.

My BP has now gone up slightly for the second time in a row. No protein or swelling but with my history it has made me feel quite anxious . They now want to see me every week, and since my boys finish school tomorrow I will have to take them with me each time, not ideal for keeping BP low. I am only 30+4 and I am just praying I can hang on until 34-35 weeks at least. DH is worried too, but I am trying to reassure him that it doesn't necessarily mean pre-eclampsia again.......very tearful today .
