Due March 2008 - is it real?

Oh my. Have name changed as I feel like a wee bit of a muppet for coming here while a bit uncertain. Will change back when I know one way or t'other for sure.

Was lurking over a cafe buffet this morning with DS, utterly unable to decide what I wanted to have for lunch. Told myself I'd have the chips but that they would probably taste metallic. Remembered how last night all the food in the house was unappealing, except two corn on the cob (?!).

Penny then dropped, though our TTC last month consisted I thought of getting it on magnificently before and after fertile time. Whipped into Boots for a 1st response after figuring I am 3 days pre-AF. Just got a faint but-its-there positive. BBC website says due date is 1st March.

Anyone else yet? I will not tell dp until the line is brighter for point and show effect, so will probably re-test Friday am. I will be keeping my news, if this really is news, virtual apart from twlling him for as long as possible, as I'm older, my thyroid is knackered and my miscarriage and anomaly risks are high.

Other than that, I am having a little smile:

Thks Derah and Sweet Kitty. I read about feta being one of the cheeses to avoid on this site: www.webmd.com/baby/features/pregnancy-eating-healthy?page=2

But reading it again, it does say pasteurised is fine - am very pleased about that as it is my fav!!

Spugs - I think we were on the same TTC thread - congratulations!!

sweetkitty · 16/07/2007 22:57

Don't worry about the feta monthlymayhem I can assure you it's far too salty for Listeria to survive and far too tasty!

spugs - glad about your darker line I know with my first one I did a test a week because I couldn't believe it. I had a bad bleed at 9 weeks though and had a scan and you could see a heartbeat and even an early face it was fab.

derah - DD2 is fine ty had a quick cry and that was her, she's as tough as old boots that one. DD1 is very delicate not a spare inch of fat on her a real girly girl. DD2 is the opposite, she's not fat but very solidly built, she's very physical and rough when playing. They are poles apart in everything. I just keep wondering what this one will be like.

beckyndanuk · 17/07/2007 11:08

Permission to come aboard! Found out last week that I am pregnant. (had 4 positive tests to proove it!) Am only 4 and a half weeks! This is number 3 (have 4 year old dd and 3 year old ds) husband is a little diapointed as it only took one month of trying!
Congrats to all of you too

monthlymayhem · 17/07/2007 12:33

Hi Beckyndanuk - congratulations I got my BFP yesterday and know I'm somewhere in between 4 - 5 weeks too. I also fell pg after 1st month of ttc so has been a shock (but a nice one) that it happened so quickly! At the weekend I'd even bought ov predictor sticks for next month as I was sure I didn't have any pg signs!! Hope you're feeling well.

c4it · 17/07/2007 12:44

Hi, can I join you lovelies? Found out last week I'm pg with no 2. BBC says due date is 20 Mar 08 (my birthday!!). Daren't tell anyone yet and think I might pop This is the first time I've posted a message eva!!!

3madboys · 17/07/2007 13:09

ooh welcome to all the new ladies

i am feeling quite chipper today, i went to bed with ds3 last night and then got a lie in this morning and let dp do the school run etc and now he has taken ds3 out for a bit, he has even done some housework

i have managed to eat some toast and an apple today without feeling like i am going to puke, so i think the extra sleep has helped

i am hastling my gp for an early scan, i cant get in to see a midwife as they are too busy, apparently i will have to wait till i am 14wks, which is too late for them to arrange a dating scan. not happy about that, but see my gp tomorrow and they seemed understanding that i want an earlier scan due to previous miscarriages and as i need to be sure of my dates for the nuchal scan we have booked.

monthlymayhem · 17/07/2007 13:43

Hello c4it! Congrats!

3madboys - glad to hear you're not quite so pukey. I've only had very light nausea so far - just as if I'm really, really hungry even thought I've eaten normally. Expecting the ms will kick in soon enough, although my Mum didn't have any at all so hoping I might be the same...

Hope you get your early scan. What is a 'nuchal' scan??

Also, does anyone know if it's ok to do sit-ups, stomach crunches etc. I've got my aerobics class this evening and not sure if I should be avoiding these or if ok during first few months?

derah · 17/07/2007 14:55

Hello ladies!

Yay, new people arriving thick and fast! Welcome BnD and C4it!

Glad you're getting some rest and feel a bit better, 3MB.

Monthlymayhem, just checked my Pregnancy Fitness book and it says that sit-ups etc are fine in the first trimester. I did the abs exercises in my aqua-aerobics class up until the day I gave birth to DD!!

Just got back from a busy morning swimming and playing in the park with DD. So hopefully she's good and tired and will have a long nap, so I can nap too!

beckyndanuk · 17/07/2007 16:19

Its so nice to have you all to chat to. Glad to hear no one is feeling too sick yet. Was quite bad with dd, but less so with noumber 2
Now for number three I just seem to be starving all the time - though I seem very picky on what I will and won't eat! Am off work with a nasty cold today and it's a bit of a pain not being able to take any lemsip etc!
Look forward to reading all your news and making friends over the next 8 months!

c4it · 17/07/2007 16:27

Yes - I'm starving too. Can decide if I'm really hungry or just using the fact that I'm PG to pig out . I'm sooo glad I found you all to talk to

derah · 17/07/2007 16:50

hungry... mmm, must eat....

HolidaysQueen · 17/07/2007 17:31

Hello ladies -
Please can I join you? Had two BFPs in the last two days (didn't trust the first), plus at an appointment with gynae dr today (for something else), she said my cervix was big and engorged and red, which apparently is a sign of early pregnancy! So looks like I'd better believe that I am pg!!!
This will be number 1 so I have no idea what is going to happen, so think I'll appreciate the company
By my calcs baby will be due on 24th March 2008 - my first wedding anniversary
Doctor's appointment not until next Thurs so twiddling my thumbs until then I guess!

beckyndanuk · 17/07/2007 18:01

Those tests are pretty accurate. At the mo the dr is not doing any more tests - she believed the 4 I took!

derah · 17/07/2007 18:06

Hello HolidaysQueen, welcome and congrats on the BFP9(s)!!

We should have a competition and see who did the most and/or least tests! I finished off my pack of cheapies just cos they were there and I wanted to see how the line got darker as time went on so I did one every 2 days until a weeks after my period was due. So that was 10 in total (although the first one was negative) and two CBD's.

derah · 17/07/2007 18:06

Sorry, ignore the 9 in the BFPs!

merryberry · 17/07/2007 18:18

Becky you can safely take plain paracetemol in pregnancy, even if not lemsip, and a hot drink of fresh lemon and honey will add the comfort factor? That'll help a fair bit with your cold?

See here about paracetemol in pg

The only known side effect is heavy use in late pg where more babies than expected wheezed compared to those whose mums didn;'t tkae it or used it lightly.

Just don't take lemsip, because noone has ever formally studied the effect of its other ingredient, phenylephrine (hope i remembered the spelling ok).

Sorry to waffle on, don';t know what came over me. Get well soon.

Hello new joiners. I'll have a groom through the board towards the end of the week and update the stats.

beckyndanuk · 17/07/2007 18:34

Don't worry Merryberry - I am only taking paracetemol!

pipsqueeke · 17/07/2007 19:12

hello all, wow we've been chatty today.

sorry for the name change first of - apparently OW made me sound like 'other woman' so i've changed now as i'm most certianly not an other woman if that makes sence? anyhow, dr's apt went well today picked hospital etc she's put me as due any time form the 8th feb to 8th march - to be sure lol. so will stop here and see what the scan says althou if DS is anything to go by he always measureed big, and came early anyhow! lol. m/w apt is next weds - woohoo! lol. hoping for a scan after that.

derah - I didn't need a sample after all she jsut asked loads of questions and that was it - no BP or anything.

timmy/kitty - thankfully there's little more than a small bruise there now but yesterday I truely did feel like the worlds worst mother! lol.

spug - lol glad the line is darker for you.

mm, becky, (DH also the same - you get your sex life back and look what happens up the duff! lol) c4it, & HQ big congrats girls welcome to the group.

becky - hope you're feeling better soon.

nutcul scan - is that the one where they check for any abnormalities etc? we have the 12 week one and the 20 week one.

anyhow off to go and try to find out about or local hospital i'm having this one at.

3madboys · 17/07/2007 19:51

a nuchal scan is one done in wks 11-13 of preg, it is done to see what risk there is of downs sydrome by measuring the fluid at the back of the babies neck and also by doing a blood test.

it is not done regularly on the nhs unless you are considered high risk, ie over 40 or twins or if you have a history of downs in the family.

i am none of those, but i had it done with ds3 and found it very reassuring and so will be having it done again.

it is done earlier and is more accurate than the triple test which are my main reasons for having it done

i am a bit worried now tho, as ds2's teacher told me there have been some cases of 'slapped cheek' in his class, none of the boys have had it, and it turns out i havent either, i checked with my mum. anyway i googled it and apparently if i get it, it can increase my risk of miscarriage and also there is a very slight risk of it causing heart problems in the baby obviously these risks are small and i may not even get it, but i will be mentioning it to my gp tomorrow who can run a blood test to check for antibodies etc.

sorry that was a bit long, hope everyone is feeling well, i need to dash off now and get the madboys in bed

derah · 17/07/2007 20:12

I thought they did the nuchal scan as part of the 12 week dating scan? I'm pretty sure I remember being told about how chances of the baby having Downs had decreased after my 12 weeks scan.

3MB - slapped cheek? Doesn't sound like fun. Hope you and your boys don't get it.

Pipsqueeke - I like the new name!

I have no idea what to make for supper. Hmmmmmmm.....

3madboys · 17/07/2007 20:16

i think they can do the scan with your twelve wk scan but here they do it seperately and they like you to have your dating scan first as it is imp to do the nuchal scan at a certain time of pregnancy

slapped cheek is also known as 5ths disease apparently and is quite a common childhood virus, i am hoping that we dont get it, due to the risks to the baby.

derah · 17/07/2007 20:45

Oh gawd, just what I don't need when I'm all hormonal and emotional. I've just been on my oldest and best friend's birth board on another parenting website. I hardly ever hear from her these days (she's very busy with a 1yo dd, new baby due in 3 weeks and moving house this week) so I thought that since she likes to post on her board I'd find out how she's doing. Anyway, I found a thread where she was talking about dd's christening. Now I'm godmother to her dd, and was so thrilled at being asked since it led me to believe that I'm still as important to her as she is to me. We've been best friends for over 20 years and have been through everything together. Anyway, according to this thread, her 'best friend couldn't be godmother so she asked an old friend instead'.

I am absolutely heartbroken. I've always thought that she meant more to me than I did to her but what a punch in the face. I guess that explains why I'm always the one to call/e-mail text/ask if we can get together and she never seems to bother.

V v v v v v v

Guess that will teach me to stalk someone on the internet......

piekin · 17/07/2007 20:46

Hi again you gals, woww lots of postings! Just wanted to say to spugs, I can't wait for my scan either! Am actaully a bit terrified that I won't get to the twelve week stage and hope to feel relieved that this pg will result in a dd/ds at some point!Trying to take it easy in the meantime but I am a bit stressed! At the mo it all feels theoretical as only symptom seems to be an absolute revulsion at cigarette smoke and a bit of travel sickness . P.S By the way, the other day a lot of posts re. vinegar, carrots grated with raisons in and maybe some beans or sprouted shoots and balsamic vinegar, olive oil, is amazing!xx Oh, Am I on the list for march, it should be about 20th.March...

derah · 17/07/2007 20:47

Sorry to dump this on you guys but I don't make friends easily in RL and don't really have anyone else to talk to about this - guess that's why she means so much to me.

piekin · 17/07/2007 20:47

Derah! thats really horrid about your old freind. She obviously doesn't deserve you!
