Due March 2008 - is it real?

Oh my. Have name changed as I feel like a wee bit of a muppet for coming here while a bit uncertain. Will change back when I know one way or t'other for sure.

Was lurking over a cafe buffet this morning with DS, utterly unable to decide what I wanted to have for lunch. Told myself I'd have the chips but that they would probably taste metallic. Remembered how last night all the food in the house was unappealing, except two corn on the cob (?!).

Penny then dropped, though our TTC last month consisted I thought of getting it on magnificently before and after fertile time. Whipped into Boots for a 1st response after figuring I am 3 days pre-AF. Just got a faint but-its-there positive. BBC website says due date is 1st March.

Anyone else yet? I will not tell dp until the line is brighter for point and show effect, so will probably re-test Friday am. I will be keeping my news, if this really is news, virtual apart from twlling him for as long as possible, as I'm older, my thyroid is knackered and my miscarriage and anomaly risks are high.

Other than that, I am having a little smile:

Piekin - some books will say it's dangerous, and some people tell you it's dangerous whether you're preggers or not! I find the smell of perfume noxious at the moment so am avoiding it! I'm sure lots of mums have worn it and gone on to have perfectly healthy babies though! It's not a common thing to be told to avoid.

ow82 · 12/07/2007 18:42

I use mine still pie. I don't think there should be an issue but please someone correct me if that's wrong.

i'm hoping to have a bulge a bit quicker this time - apparenlty last time I had 'a rounded tum' from about 12 weeks but didn't need maternity clothes till 20 weeks for tops and 26 for bottoms. (don't ask me how that worked out) think it was cos I had strechy jeans/trousers for work but fitted shirts. I remember at 36 weeks being asked in tescos - oh are you having a baby then - by the check out lady (I had nappies maternity pads etc) in the shopping - my answer er yes i'm due in 4 weeks. was mortified she didn't think I looked pg!

ow82 · 12/07/2007 18:45

I didn't know that derah - althou DH's aftershave is making me feel queezy at the mo.

skidoodle · 12/07/2007 19:19

piekin, i haven't been wearing perfume recently but just out of not having unpacked it from being away. I never heard there was any issue with it. Would seem silly to avoid it.

It seems that there will always be some expert advising you to be careful of something, even breathing (no joke - my book cautions against breathing in exhaust fumes when walking/cycling to work. so it would be better to travel by car and be less fit?)

A couple of weeks ago such smells made me feel really sick, but really luckily for me the nausea has mostly abated and I haven't been sick at all.

derah, oh no! I really need to believe that I will be ms. perky in a couple of months. my sanity depends on it

ow, glad to hear you've been able to sleep 'til 7.30

derah · 12/07/2007 19:37

ow/piekin - I might be talking complete nonsense about the perfume, but I remember that at work once a lady showed me an article about how all perfumes are potentially carcinogenic (but then what isn't these days?!) and that there are no tests or restrictions on what goes in there so it could be anything. I'm sure it's quite safe though.

Skidoodle - don't worry, you'll feel loads better after 12 weeks. The middle trimester is great except for looking fat rather than preggers! I wanted to wear a badge that announced I was preggie, not just a porker!! LOL!!

piekin · 12/07/2007 19:46

agree with you that everthing seems to be carcinogenic, it's terrifying once you start thinking about all these things that are bad for the baby, feels like loads of things you can't do! I am a bit jealous of you all with bumps, I haven't got anything yet!

sweetkitty · 12/07/2007 20:53

piekin - don't be jealous - mine isn't a proper bump just bloatedness. Also us second and third timers don't have as taut stomach muscles to hold everything in so we show earlier. I find the growing uterus seems to push any stomach fat up and out to start with so you just look like you've got a spare tyre. About 20 weeks you start to get a proper bump different for different people though. I'm still wearing perfume and I will still dye my hair, there's not a proven link with these things and you would go mad worrying about everything.

ow - I'm a bit like you I don't feel any different odd little bit of feeling sick but still can't quite believe I'm pregnant. Cannot wait until the 12 week scan though.

I just have to find a way of stopping DD2 clambering all over me, she's a very adventurous physical child (re: totally wild) and is going through a violent stage and also loves to climb on me for cuddles don't want to stop her but need her to be a bit more gentle once I have a bump.

3madboys · 12/07/2007 21:05

is any oneelse getting headaches, i seem to end up with one most days :9 i try not to take anything when preg but am having to take some paracetamol as the headaches make me feel like i am going to puke

no bump here yet, but i bought some size twelve jeans this week as i figured they would last me for a bit of the preg, rahter than my usual size tens

i havent got huge with any of my other pregnancies, no bump till 20wks ish, so hopefully it will be the same this time

derah · 13/07/2007 08:47

Morning ladies, hope you're all well today.

I rode my bike to work today, even though the weather looks a little iffy. But it was lovely to ride out in the open air instead of stuck in traffic jams in the car.

3MB, I had a headache most of last week, and ended up popping a couple of paracetamol when I couldn't take it any more. Seems OK this week though. Hope yours gets better.

Right, better get to work....

potionsmakemummyclever · 13/07/2007 11:42

Hello and welcome piekin,

3MB - I've had headaches too (also with ds. I think they are quite common. Maybe mine has more to do with caffeine deprivation though - dh keeps trying to fob me off with decaff while he sits there with his double espresso . I have cut down on the caffeine (went off tea & coffee completely last time), but I don't think cutting back to 3 coffees a day is bad going for a serious caffeine addict like myself. This could all change as I'm on night duty this weekend and need to survive somehow.

Has anyone else noticed that their sense of smell seems much better? This happened to a few friends when they were pg, but it didn't affect me last time. Mind you, it was a sunny, hayfeverish summer last time. Suppose I have something to be thank all this rain for

Has anyone got any good day out recommendations now that a lot of the toddler groups are finishing for the summer?

potionsmakemummyclever · 13/07/2007 11:53

Plus, peeing for England isn't going to be helping the headaches

sweetkitty · 13/07/2007 14:39

potions/4mb - was just going to say caffeine withdrawal, I had really bad headaches when I was first pregnant with DD1 and I put it down to caffeine withdrawal. I have always suffered from migraines and had a few when pregnant I couldn't help it I had to take Migraleve paracetamol wouldn't have shifted it and I reckon 2 wouldn't hurt.

Not much to report here really DP's birthday tomorrow and we're trying to think of something nice to do, it's difficult as the 2 DDs have to come too.

DontlookatmeImshy · 13/07/2007 15:12

I'm looking for days out ideas too. I dread everything finishing over the summer hols. Wasn't so bad last year but this year being able to go to toddler groups etc etc help keep me sane!

I didn't get a bump until 20 weeks last time either. Was great as we didn't want to tell anyone at work until after the 20 week scan. This time though I'm being daft and slightly disappointed that I'm not showing already although thinking about it my jeans do seem to have shrunk in the wash

Still not got many symptoms. Just having mild waves of queasyness but no vomiting so should be grateful really. No visit from the boob fairy although still bf'ing ds so that might make a difference. The tiredness has just started to kick in though. Took ds out for a walk in the buggy and was shattered when I got back. Oh and having a few weepy moments, the RNLI advert made me cry last night.

DS and all his friends are at the age when all the mums start asking any each other if they think they'll have/are they trying for anymore etc, so am already having to field off comments with ambiguos answers that don't give anything away but aren't lies cos I'm crap at lying and if someone asks me outright if i'm pregnant, if I say no, my face will say yes by looking like this
So far I've had on the day I got the bfp
Friend "You're trying for another aren't you" (not sure why she thought this)
Me "Not at the moment" - no point in trying if you're already pg so not a lie

Friend "Do you think you'll have anymore"
Me "Maybe, we'll just see how things go"

and while ds was playing with the dolls/prams at toddlers group "He's telling you he wants a baby brother or sister"

DontlookatmeImshy · 13/07/2007 15:13

Sorry that was quite a ramble wasn't it.

waiting4bambino · 13/07/2007 15:39

Hi all, bit down today, (seem to be most days lately!). Have had really bad stomach pains, so bad that i've been doubled over. I never go to the docs so i rang nhs direct instead and they have advised me to go to docs today. So I have an appt for 530. I think they're either gonna tell me to go away and stop being daft, or they're gonna refer me for a scan and then tell me its ectopic.

Has anyone had an ectopic pg? What does it feel like?

ConnorTraceptive · 13/07/2007 15:42

Hi w4b, i really hope the doctor can reassure you. During my first pregnancy my stomach hurt quite badly most of the time and i did have an extra scan but it was fine.

really hope everything is ok for you

waiting4bambino · 13/07/2007 15:44

thanks, what sort of pain was it? At the moment its like a dull ache, a few stabbing pains on the right side and when it was really bad, i broke out in a sweat and had bad diarrhoea! (tmi!)

spugs · 13/07/2007 16:07

Im adding myself to the list ladies, had a mc 2 mths ago so a bit tentative but feeling much more positive about this preg then the last. Think im 4+3 from lmp but i normally ov late. Have cramps at the min like af is coming and feel rough but thats it

w4b how did you get on?

ConnorTraceptive · 13/07/2007 17:59

ooh hello spugs welcome! I've been quite crampy too and generally feeling pants!

Lcy · 13/07/2007 18:04

Hi everyone,

Despite the bleeding and cramps last week i am still pregnant - yipee. Work were really good and let me work (hmm well watch tv) from home.

Waiting4bambino - this is my first baby and i have had all kinds of weird cramps (left, right and centre), pulling sensations, twinges and yes lucky me diarrhoea. The doctor has told me this is all normal - so i hope yours is able to reassure you! Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Welcome spugs - sorry about your mc and glad you are feeling more positive this time around.

I have already chosen the Phil and Teds pushchair i want - might not tell DH about the price tag
x

Lcy · 13/07/2007 18:05

Oh and i have totally lost my appetite - that is so unlike me!

3madboys · 13/07/2007 18:19

thats good news lcy

i dont think the headaches are due to caffeine withdrawl as i am caffeine free anyway due to still bfeeding ds3, if i have caffeine his sleep is crap, so i havent had any for month and months and months, i have found a nice caffeine free tea that i like so thats ok

still a bit headachey and very pukey, i have also lost my appetite, but i was the same with the boys, i tend to lose weight in the first trimester, because of this.

Lcy · 13/07/2007 18:23

3madboys - i think the headaches are due to hormones. I got a splitting one on what must of been implantation day (7 days post ovulation).

I have been reading your previous posts and think i will becoming to you for breastfeeding advice in 9 mmonths - you sound like a pro!

ow82 · 13/07/2007 18:44

hiya all, we've been chatty today! lol.

kitty - I knwo that feeling! lol. it's so surreal a the minute i'm sure I felt worse with DS from the start - my boobs are clearly bigger thou so hoping that's a good sign.

3mb - I didn't really ahve them last time - well one day of a terrible migrane which coinsided with me being sick one and that was all, was about 6 weeks I think then maybe more I can't quite remember. but was fine there after - ooh tell a lie, one other time was ill about 13 weeks after a beef sandwich - but I think that was more the food than the baby iycwim. parocetamol (sp) is fine what's the name of the tea you drink? I only have 2/3 cups p/d but should try to cut it down.

potion - where are you in the country for days out? longleat by me is good. as is monkey world. re the caffien thing - are we ment to stop tea/coffee then? i've not cut back actually.

don't look - we've had that - so far i've steered it towards - we're not trying but if it happens it does, a couple of my friends know thou - but also know to keep quite for a bit till the 12 week mark.

w4b - how did you go today? hoping ti's jsut everyhting streching/moving into place as these things do. i've not had an ep pg, althou have had a ruptured tube - wasn't very nice at all, a bit like apendisitus one would imagion as that's what the dr's thought it was. terrible pain thou - hoping it's not that. let us know how you go

spugs - hiya and congrats, hoping you ahve a sticky bean in there

hiya lcy, glad everyhting's ok with you. i'm now sweying back towards a P&T (sorry kitty - it's the side by side twin e3 thou) it seems to be the smallest side by side.

am getting worried again today - my hormones seem to be back to normal - althou DH says they're not, still a bit sicky, but nothing else, can't wait to see the dr. hoping everything's ok.
