Due March 2008 - is it real?

Oh my. Have name changed as I feel like a wee bit of a muppet for coming here while a bit uncertain. Will change back when I know one way or t'other for sure.

Was lurking over a cafe buffet this morning with DS, utterly unable to decide what I wanted to have for lunch. Told myself I'd have the chips but that they would probably taste metallic. Remembered how last night all the food in the house was unappealing, except two corn on the cob (?!).

Penny then dropped, though our TTC last month consisted I thought of getting it on magnificently before and after fertile time. Whipped into Boots for a 1st response after figuring I am 3 days pre-AF. Just got a faint but-its-there positive. BBC website says due date is 1st March.

Anyone else yet? I will not tell dp until the line is brighter for point and show effect, so will probably re-test Friday am. I will be keeping my news, if this really is news, virtual apart from twlling him for as long as possible, as I'm older, my thyroid is knackered and my miscarriage and anomaly risks are high.

Other than that, I am having a little smile:

Skidoodle, phone around your local hospitals and ask for a tour, or at least get on their websites and see what kind of facilities they have. For example, I had a choice of 2 hospitals with dd but chose one over the other as it had 'home-from-home' delivery suites (which are more like hotel rooms and less like hospital rooms) and a birthing pool. Also check out statistics for MRSA, problems during childbirth, numbers of midwives etc. You can change your mind at any time, so it might be a good idea to wait until you start your ante-natal classes and then ask ladies in the class who have already had babies which hospital they went to, and why.

merryberry · 10/07/2007 18:40

you'll also find women on here skidoodle who can give you the goss on the hospital. they do make a difference. some will give pethedine, some won't. some have daft visiting policies, some don't. some have weird regs on when you can have gas and air, some don't. some have 1 on-call anaesthetist, some have more (for the epidurals). some do water births, some don't. some have lousy antenatal care but nice rooms you can book for postnatal stay. some never have enough midwives and rarely do the home births they promise. some have a factory line culture, some have a woman centred culture. it's an effing minefield. ask enough people and you'll get a reasonable picture. go to the tours to get your own vibe and good luck.

merryberry · 10/07/2007 18:42

having written that am considering a life of crime to be able to pay for st johns and st elizabeth or some such this time round.

sigh

derah · 10/07/2007 18:57

And I'm having mine at home!!

Goodness me, now you've all got me looking at twin pushchairs too!! Since this is no. 2, I don't really need to buy anything else.

I'm definitely not going for a side-by-side twin pushchair. It's hard enough getting a single through the isles in shops. There are some nice small-looking slimline ones. Now there are only 3 questions: 1) do I get an umbrella one, which is lovely and small but won't fit a car seat (travel systems are very handy) 2) do I get a Graco one that fits a travel system and re-use my Graco car seat or 3) do I splash out on a whole new twin travel system? I guess I have lots of time to decide!

skidoodle · 10/07/2007 20:16

thanks derah & merryberry, that's so helpful

good to know you can change your mind too. I know exactly where I would go if I was still in the city I'm from.

i'll go and have a look online now and see what I can find out.

what's st. john and st. elizabeth?

is the NHS OK for having babies? I know I would have gone private at home, but always thought the NHS was meant to be super great.

I can't believe you guys are thinking of push chairs already

ow82 · 10/07/2007 20:23

skid - I had the NHS with DS and it was fine - but tbh, I was the only lady labouring. the unit was very new and modern, I was with DS at all times except for 1 hour when I asked the nursery to have him at night as I needed some sleep - felt real bad but I had to have sleep. food was ok. the midwives were brill, the dr's however - postnatal were awful, but that's another story - very thought with me, inlc an internatl the day after DS was born - and she wondered why I was sore? - stupid cow. and an over entusiastic dr testing DS's hip movement. but apart from that (to be fair that might well have been more my issues of you're hurting my son get away you mean man). also if you have any firends who have had babies close by then ask them. take advantage of all angles.

derah - MIL keeps saying a tandum, but my logic is now out shopping we'll ahve DS in his stroller and baby in a sling. the big pushchair will be used when walking locally - which we do pretty much 85% of the time. ooh and don't forget there's also a new cot to get - well cotbed for us - DS is still in his cotbed/will be for a while. little other thing's i'd like as well.

know the feeling re changing dr's connor - until I was 21 I'd used the same dr and in the last 4 years had 3 pratices. and none measure up to the first one. it's hard to trust dr's some times I find after having the same one for so long.

anyhow, off to spend a bit of time with DH before I fall asleep on the sofa.

sweetkitty · 10/07/2007 21:13

skidoodle - I have had one baby in hospital and one at home and I know which I prefer! I know it's daunting with your first and you don't really know how it's going to go that's why I went for hospital the first time. I didn't have that good a time really. Was told I wasn't in labour and that I was making too much noise to be admitted to a ward so got told to lie with the gas and air until morning. Of course I was screaming because I was dilating really fast. When I started to make pushing noises they realised I was in labour. Baby shot out and I tore pretty bad, then it took ages to get placenta out. Aftercare was non existant and hated being on a ward for a number of reasons. Don't want to frighten you it wasn't that bad we were both fine. Homebirth was fantastic though.

ow82 - had a look at the first wheels looks good the carrycot bit looks very snug but at £70 for about 4 months a bit steep. I had a side by side and hated it, it could fit in doors but narrow aisle's in shops was a nightmare. It was hard to bump up kerbs, the shopping basket fell apart withing a week, the cosytoes (£90) didn't fit properly, I felt that DD1 didn't have enough room as the seats were narrow and it just felt flimsy but apart from that great. I have a Graco Stadium Duo just now and for the money it's a good buggy. Baby lies flat in the back toddler in front. Big and bulky though but what double isn't. I love talking about buggies

I'm only getting a new buggy, DD1 will get a proper bed, DD2 will have her cotbed, DB3 will have DD2's cot. It's a bedside cot and is fab can't recommend it enough. One side flips underneath and you line it up with your bed so it becomes an extension of your bed. Brilliant for cosleeping and breastfeeding. If this one's a girl the poor thing won't be getting any new clothes either.

I think with your first baby you get everything the books tell you to, don't use half of it, by the time you get to no2 you get what you actually need and no3 you've got everything so it gets nothing! DD1 has Winnie the Pooh matching everything beautiful antique swinging crib with drapes, matching changing mat and changing mat liner! She never slept in the crib and changing mat liners whats that about.

Anyway enough talking from me I just love all things baby sorry

timmyinatizzy · 11/07/2007 11:08

Morning all.

Hello dontlook and welcome

Been a busy few days not really had time to stop. My dsd's has 2 friends round for tea last night. Not sure who was more exhausted, them or me!?!

I got my midwife appointment through the post today. Its on Monday 20th August at 830, 20 minutes before my nuchal scan at a different hospital!!!! Looks like I'll have to change the midwife, hopefully I can have an earlier one. Not feeling as tired today, have been sleeping quite well this week.

Apparently my dad had a dream the other night and he saw me holding a little boy, wonder if it'll come true?

derah · 11/07/2007 12:33

Afternoon all!!

Hope everyone is well today. I'm feeling, good, just very tired. And I'm sitting here eating my lunch with my trousers button and zip undone cos it's just too tight! Ack! Can't believe I need bigger trousers already!! I think I'll get something nice and soft and elasticated until I need real maternity stuff. And I need a bigger bra too. Hmph, wasn't planning on spending money yet!!

merryberry · 11/07/2007 13:52

getting zoo'd out this summer, bless the boy for loving it so much though, it is a no-brainer.

i am tired. that's all i have to say.

zzzzz.

3madboys · 11/07/2007 13:52

hello all, been away from here due to a hectic few days, having the boiler done, electrics int he kitchen sorted, the birthday party which was fab we had brigth sunshine and the kids all loved their light sabers my dp dressed up as darth vader, we hired a suit, and that was fab too

i am now 6 weeks, and feeling pukey, have tender breastsn now, which makes bfeeding ds3 uncomfortable

oh we have our new range cooker now, it was fitted yesterday

life is good, tho i am knackered and still cant get a midwife app as they are all too busy, so my gp isgoing to have to book me in and arrange my dating scan.

hope you are all well?

(((o7)) sorry to here you news

derah · 11/07/2007 19:17

Soooooo tired, can't do anything.... snore!

waiting4bambino · 11/07/2007 21:17

Just been catching up on all your news, 07, so sorry to hear of your news, take care of yourself and hope to see you on here soon.....

Well, i have been feeling so sick I've resorted to buying some Sea Bands, apparently they work for morning sickness as well as travel sickness. I basically feel sick all day, except for the times i'm eating!! I'll be a whale by the time March comes! My trousers are tight and my belly is hanging over them and some of my work tops are rising up my belly in Rab C Nesbitt style!

And to think i used to think that pregnant women at work were just putting it on!!!!! I have been looking grey for about 2 weeks now, havent even put any lipstick on cos i keep wiping it off whilst retching! Havent actually been sick but feeling it constantly. Has anyone got any other suggestions for sickness apart from the usual ginger related stuff?

derah · 11/07/2007 21:24

Sorry you're having such a hard time w4b. I'm very grateful that all I've got so far is tiredness, but I'm not even 5 weeks yet so there's plenty of time for it to kick in. I need new trousers too though... big muffin top tim hanging over my waistband!

waiting4bambino · 11/07/2007 21:26

Do you have any problems lying on your tummy or it feeling tender? At the moment i'm alternating between my side and sleeping on my back, which i know i can't do forever!

I checked out my book, it says, no symptoms, no weight gain at 6 weeks! Lies!

sweetkitty · 11/07/2007 21:26

Evening all not much to report here still a wee bit sicky in the morning but nothing to complain about, I think it strikes me a bit later about 8-9 weeks. Maybe it won't strike at all this time DP did say today that my stomach looked a bit swollen think it's just chocolate. I still feel a bit of a fake as I feel no different apart from lack of period and the odd moment of feeling sick. Oh I've broke out in loads of spots too.

w4b - sorry to hear about your sickness, don't know what to suggest really there maybe some good threads on here about cures have a nose around archives. Remember it only lasts until the second trimester!

3madboys - sorry your feeling so rough as well and with all your work and the party. Glad your DS had a great time though. How old is your DS3? I BF DD1 for 3 months whilst pregnant with DD2 but she self weaned at just over 12 months. I wasn't too fussed as it was hard feeding her and feeling so rough.

timmy - that's a bummer about your appointments. I'm dreading mine as they will probably be in the afternoon across town and I will have to traipse the DDs with me and you can imagine a 3yo and 18mo in a doctors surgery not good.

derah and merryberry - hope you are catching up with your zzzzzzzzzzzz's

big hellos to everyone else x

waiting4bambino · 11/07/2007 21:30

Hi Sweetkitty! I know, but the second trimester seems sooooooo far away right now! I can't imagine feeling this ill for that long! Do people pass away from morning sickness?!!!

sweetkitty · 11/07/2007 21:36

It is truly rotten but it could be a lot worse you could be heaving up everything even water. In a few months it will be a distant memory and we'll have something else to maon about.

waiting4bambino · 11/07/2007 21:38

I guess! It's just ironic that we spend all this time ttc, then we conceive, only to worry about every little twinge and rotten feeling! I want to be at the blooming stage! I got enough spots to do dot to dot on my face too! And my hair seems to have its own chip pan at the root!

sweetkitty · 11/07/2007 21:44

I never get to the blooming stage, I think the baby sucks the lifeblood out of me, I have spots, lank grasy hair, grey skin, eye bags and just look dog rough for 9 months (and about a year afterwards) it's worth it though

sweetkitty · 11/07/2007 22:15

ow82 - I have just worked out who you are from the beanies thread, I can't believe J is 1.4yo already. That's great your on my antenatal thread too

ConnorTraceptive · 12/07/2007 08:32

hi all feel quite pants at the mo, not being sick but stomach feels rough most of the day, it's still nowhere near as bad as the morning sickness I had with ds so I'm trying to be grateful for that.

W4B you have my sympathies in my previous experience nothing really helped although do keep eating little an often as I stopped eating last time and that really didn't help.
I find mints take the edge off a bit and ice lollies.

Ds out for morning so i'm off back to bed for an hour.

derah · 12/07/2007 08:42

Morning ladies

I am sooooooooooooo sick of this &$£*$%&ing rain!!! I bought a new bike weeks ago to ride to work and have only managed to ride it once!! I was determined that today would be a bike day cos the weather report last night wasn't too bad but this morning it's pissing down again. If it was just me I'd ride in the rain but DD is on the bike with me and it wouldn't be very nice to make her all soggy too. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Hope you're all well today.

merryberry · 12/07/2007 08:43

argh yes hello, another here on the nauseous most of the time front. today's bonus prompt to sicky feelings was that the steamy air of the shower, usually my morning joy and delight, turned my stomach. ew.

anyway, its raining its bloody pouring again. grrr. and all the toddler groups shut for summer soon. the weather had better improve or i am going to run out of amusement ideas FAST.

on a things to look forward to note, i'm off to see harry potter tonight at 7pm (better not fall asleep) and a hen pamper session saturday afternoon. (not mine, i hasten to add)
