Due March 2008 - is it real?

Oh my. Have name changed as I feel like a wee bit of a muppet for coming here while a bit uncertain. Will change back when I know one way or t'other for sure.

Was lurking over a cafe buffet this morning with DS, utterly unable to decide what I wanted to have for lunch. Told myself I'd have the chips but that they would probably taste metallic. Remembered how last night all the food in the house was unappealing, except two corn on the cob (?!).

Penny then dropped, though our TTC last month consisted I thought of getting it on magnificently before and after fertile time. Whipped into Boots for a 1st response after figuring I am 3 days pre-AF. Just got a faint but-its-there positive. BBC website says due date is 1st March.

Anyone else yet? I will not tell dp until the line is brighter for point and show effect, so will probably re-test Friday am. I will be keeping my news, if this really is news, virtual apart from twlling him for as long as possible, as I'm older, my thyroid is knackered and my miscarriage and anomaly risks are high.

Other than that, I am having a little smile:

Sorry to hear that 07mumstheword - will be thinking of you. I hope everyone else is doing ok.
I have also had light bleeding today (tmi: old blood) and achy pains. Doctor said i was just going to have to wait it out and see what happens (sad). She also said not to worry because i concieved really quickly so probably would again - felt like telling her that i wanted this one!!!

skidoodle · 09/07/2007 19:47

thanks for the welcomes you guys

yes, this is my first. I got married a month ago and came back from honeymoon pregnant. wasn't really expecting it to happen so quickly so kind of shellshocked, but in a happy way.

sweetkitty, I am LOVING my sports bra. It looks terrible, but I don't care

have my first doctor's appointment tomorrow, so will see what happens then.

are people sticking to all the food bans? like cold cuts? some of the things seems kind of silly.

marjoram · 09/07/2007 20:52

Hi Skidoodle, Welcome. I have reluctantly cut down on caffeine (2or 3 cups a week instead of 3 to 4 a day) and am avoiding the whole pate, unpasteurised cheese thing. But , yes I agree the cold cuts thing seems a little excessive to me. No more roll ups, or wine so I'll be damned if I can't have a little ham off the deli counter. I'm trying to cut down on the additives (not good anyway) but I reckon you should just eat what you feel your body needs. Ironic, really we're all avoiding the listeria/samolnella risk foods but who would have thought you'd be at risk from a Cadbury's Flake?

sweetkitty · 09/07/2007 21:28

skidoodle - aww first babies are always so special such an exciting time (or should that be blissful ignorance ) prior to having children I was a microbiologist/food safety expert so actually used to give talks on safe eating whilst pregnant! TBH I only avoid alcohol and I don't smoke anyway. I am vegetarian so don't eat meat but have had a bit of Brie when I fancy it but usually only from factories I have visited. I do think the worlds gone mad with the whole what to avoid when pregnant thing and it varies from country to country too In France I believe no mention of cutting back on wine or cheese but get rid of your cat. It's enough to drive you mad.

Is anyone else feeling really scared about the pregnancy I don't know maybe it because I read things on here or as it's my third I feel I'm pushing my luck but I am really worried about this one more than the others before. Does that make sense at all? Like I'm going to get to my scan and have a missed m/c or just start bleeding. Why do some babies stick and sone don't? It's going to be a long 7 weeks.

derah · 09/07/2007 21:33

Evening ladies

Lcy, I hope everything is OK. Fingers crossed and thinking of you.

Quick question: when we're working out how many weeks pregnant we are, is the first week zero (ie day after period starts is 0+1) or is that week 1 (ie 1+1)? I had myself at 4+3 but doc said today I'm 5 weeks, so am I 5+3. If last period was 8 June, where am I? Sorry to be so dense!!

derah · 09/07/2007 21:37

Sweetkitty - I did a course on human genetic disease once, and (as you probably know) there are a mind-numbing amount of them, and there is just sooooooooooooo much that can go wrong when two sets of genes combine. Frankly, that course left me wondering how anyone is born normal at all! So I guess, 1/5 pregnancies don't make it because something went wrong with the genes. It is very sad that the chances are so high, and it's very scary. I just keep telling myself that the odds are higher that things will be fine than that they won't. And having had previous children doesn't mean your chances are any higher this time. If you had 3 boys before, doesn't mean you have more chance of a girl this time, does it? Try to be positive!

winemakesmummyclever · 09/07/2007 22:07

07mum - so sorry to hear your sad news. Best wishes to you and your dp.
Lcy - fingers crossed and positive vibes coming your way.

Still feel bloated, tired and bit bit sicky, but otherwise wouldn't believe I was pg if hadn't got two positive results (another one on knicker patrol).
Still haven't got my act together and made a gp appointment, nor told any family - will have to sort it out this week. However, I have become obsessed with the phil & ted tandem buggy tho (priorities?) - may have to sell major organ in order to afford one!
Goodnight all.

marjoram · 09/07/2007 22:08

Derah, you have really confused me with the dates! My last period was 1st June and the GP has today estimated me to be 5 weeks 3 days. I was under the impression that week 1 is from the first day of your cycle, ie, 2 weeks before the LMP. It is a bit confusing (am I being sexist if I suggest a man came up with this formula ) so 2 weeks after conception means you're 4 weeks gone. Your GP seems to be working on a different formula to everyone else. I think you were right in the beginning. What does anybody else think?
Sweetkitty, I know what you mean. Whilst I am trying so hard to have positive thoughts it is too emotionally risky to be complacent. the next couple of months until the scan are probably the hardest, I think. I don't remember being this nervous last time. Perhaps we're all older and wiser now!

marjoram · 09/07/2007 22:09

Meant to say Lcy I'm thinking of you. Fingers crossed

timmyinatizzy · 09/07/2007 22:31

I'm sure the book I'm reading says there are two dates, just to confuse us! One is the date that you started your last period, and the other is the date of conception which is normally around 2 weeks after the date you started your period. So I would count myself as 6 weeks and 4 days as the date of the start of last period was 26 May.

sweetkitty · 09/07/2007 23:12

My LMP was 3rd June so by my reckoning I'm 5+1 weeks today but my last cycle was 27 days so that puts my EDD at 8th March although it could be 9. So confusing isn't it?

Lcy - keeping everything crossed for you as well keep us posted.

I remember when I had a bad bleed with DD1 and I rang the EPU and the woman basically said if I was having a m/c theres nothing they could do, what a thing to tell anyone I was so angry and upset. Cue a 4 hour wait in the EPU but we got to see our baby eventually and all was well. I never knew bleeding was so common in pregnancy either.

winemummy - I obsessed over double buggies for 9 months last time almost got a Phil & Teds but DP didn't like it so got a M&P side by side instead which I hated. Am definitely going for a Phil and Teds, reckon if I keep it pristine I can resell it as they hold their value really well.

siennammm · 10/07/2007 06:41

hi guys, well felt pretty sick yesterday but feeling a bit better today - just hoping the hyperemesis keeps away this time - 6+2 today so if I can get to 8 weeks, I should have got away with it....... starting to obsess over double buggies as molly will be 19 months when baby comes - anyone any ideas as to what is best???? and how much to pay???? i have no clue whatsoever..... also agree about stressing with the 3rd pregnancy - I just want to get to 12 weeks and to the scan and to know everything is fine.... XX

marjoram · 10/07/2007 07:43

Morning all
Is anyone else finding it difficut to sleep even though you're exhausted? Just had to bake a cake for DD's International Food Festival Day at school (at 7am). Was going to do it later but DD wanted to help. Had a woobly moment when the eggs went in but at least 7 year old girls can be really helpful when baking. Thank goodness for food processors! I just want to go to sleep!!!!

DontlookatmeImshy · 10/07/2007 08:35

Hello Ladies. Can I join you. Got a BFP on Friday, it's only just sinking in that it's real (keep checking the test lol), finally plucked up the courage to come over here. This will be no.2, already have a ds 21 months. Not feeling very pregnant yet, bit queasy and lots of burping , didn't have any sickness with ds either, just the exhaustion so hoping i'll get away with it again this time.
Think I'm about 4+3, and due on 15 March

ConnorTraceptive · 10/07/2007 08:52

hi dontlook congrats and welcome!

Hi sienna you sound just like me, felt pretty rubbish yesterday and was sick this morning but feel ok ish now so really hoping and praying the hyperemesis stays away. I keep telling myself if i can get to 8 weeks then there is no way i can feel as bad as last time.

very tired at the mo but really struggling to sleep. DS at creche this am so will do a bit of housework and then try and have a cat nap before i go pick him up.

hello to all you other guys hope you are all doing well

derah · 10/07/2007 09:11

Hi Dontlook! Welcome to the group. Looks like we're baby buddies! My dd is 22 months, so very close to yours, and I'm 4+4 weeks gone, so very close again.

Has anyone else had a stuffy nose/sore throat since they've been pg? I feel like I've got a cold coming on but this has been going on for over a week and no real cold as yet. Most odd!!

Right, must get moving. I need to pack a picnic lunch for dd and I, head off to get my flat tyre fixed, go swimming and then meet a friend and her LO's for lunch. Busy busy!!

ow82 · 10/07/2007 13:36

hiya all,

sorry i've not managed to catch up properly but have had a quick scan down the page.

07 - I am so sorry to hear of your news - be good to yourself honney. ((hugs))

I'm now having lots of syumptoms after moaning last week of having none! lol. have slight sickness now most of the day. (nothing major thou) am falling asleep by 8pm on the sofa! lol. and the hormones have really kicked in - my poor household!

dt@m - hiya and welcome.

ooh have booked in witht eh dr for next thurs - her you have to see them b4 the m/w's so hopefully will get a scan apt thru for about 6 weeks time. (at most - i'm hoping - not sure really how it all works here)

promise to keep up now we're back at home

ow82 · 10/07/2007 13:39

sienna - i'm the same althou DS will be a bit older - am looking into the first wheels with the carry cot for DB and the chair for DS - looks to be the best option so far, althou MIL keeps telling DH that we want a tandum - (as i'm pushing it 95% of the time and i'm the one with the hormones! lol. it will prob be the first wheels one!)

winemakesmummyclever · 10/07/2007 14:56

Afternoon ladies - hope you are all well (apart from the nausea, tiredness and hormones).
I appear to have had a visit from the boob fairy overnight - ouch!Hi & congratulations Don'tlook.
Marjoram & Connor - I'm with you on the being ridiculously tired but unable to sleep properly. Thankfully, ds slept in until 9.30 this morning so I stayed snuggled up in bed too . Wish that happened more often.
Sweetkitty - managed to persuade dh to look at the P&T yesterday after stalking a woman pushing one round Cheshire Oaks. Am glad to say he likes it too. The local stockist will do it for £400 (buggy, double seat, cocoon & double raincover), so think we will go for new as the ebay prices are not much less than that.

sweetkitty · 10/07/2007 16:11

Not much to report here felt a bit sick when I got up this morning but soon went when I had some toast. I think the boob fairy has lost my address! Have booked an appt with the GP for next Wednesday as DP is off for 2 weeks so I'll be able to whizz down on my own.

don'tlook - hi and welcome to the thread

winemummy - I am definitely getting a P&T want a new sport one they are expensive but worth it I think. Just have to decide on what colour to go for, I'm not a bright green/orange type of person will probably go for boring black.

ow82 - will need to have a look at first wheels now, is that what it's called first wheels or is there a brand too?

sienna and connor - hope the sickness stays away

I'm away to start a pregnancy rant thread

ConnorTraceptive · 10/07/2007 16:27

have finally managed to find a doctor that will take us on but get this:

it's only a two minute drive from my existing dr's and only a five minute walk from where we USED to live but is completely across town from where we are now. So i'm mighty peeved off about it, would rather stay on with current surgery as they are really good but they won't let us.

Just had a lovely afternoon nap with ds but let it go on too long do DH will have fun putting him to bed tonight

lauzie · 10/07/2007 16:43

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know I'm still alive (although feel like death warmed up )

07 really sorry to hear your news, take care.

Sienna~ I'm originally from Kingston Park, living in Chopwell at mo and in the process of renovating a 400 year old farmhouse in east woodburn!

Sweetkitty~ I really would move up if I could, absolutely adore the place! unfortunately couldn't take all my staff with me too so I'm stuck here!

Sorry thats all for now, I'll try to get back on later xxxx

ow82 · 10/07/2007 16:49

kitty this is a first wheels i'll get it with a carry cot I think for baby and then the chair for DS and chair for baby once old enough/too big for the cot. jarm is thinking of getting one so she's offered her's to me when i'm due as she's due before me. but we shall see how thing's pan out/if I can convince DH we can really afford a new one! lol.

winemaker - 9.30 I wish, althou today was better than last week (6am every day) today was 7 and then he was happy in his cot till half past - so good in all.

connor - why won't your old pratice let you stay there?

I think the boob fairy is already with me - and as if my E norks weren't big enough! lol. I started out a 34D before DS went up to a 40E and then back to a 36E - I really want them to shrink!

ConnorTraceptive · 10/07/2007 17:07

they just say that we are out of there area. It's not so much a problem now but i guess once baby is born and midwife/hv have to make home visits then it's too far for them to come.

I get really nervous about changing doctors only been with two surgeries my whole life and both were brilliant, never had a problem getting appointments and Dr's all fab.

You read some of people's threads on here about having to wait a week for an appointment I just dread that sort of thing

skidoodle · 10/07/2007 17:44

Just had my first doctor's appointment. Wasn't sure quite what to expect. Thought maybe she'd examine my nether regions and feel my womb or something, but just took my blood pressure and weighed me.

Apparently I will have an appointment once a month and next month I will go to see the hospital. She asked me which hospital I wanted to go to but I haven't lived here long and had no idea.

Feel a bit thick. How much of a difference does it make what hospital you go to?

She told me I could keep up whatever exercise I liked but not to take up anything new.

I'm so tired today. Can't seem to get anything done.
