Due March 2008 - is it real?

Oh my. Have name changed as I feel like a wee bit of a muppet for coming here while a bit uncertain. Will change back when I know one way or t'other for sure.

Was lurking over a cafe buffet this morning with DS, utterly unable to decide what I wanted to have for lunch. Told myself I'd have the chips but that they would probably taste metallic. Remembered how last night all the food in the house was unappealing, except two corn on the cob (?!).

Penny then dropped, though our TTC last month consisted I thought of getting it on magnificently before and after fertile time. Whipped into Boots for a 1st response after figuring I am 3 days pre-AF. Just got a faint but-its-there positive. BBC website says due date is 1st March.

Anyone else yet? I will not tell dp until the line is brighter for point and show effect, so will probably re-test Friday am. I will be keeping my news, if this really is news, virtual apart from twlling him for as long as possible, as I'm older, my thyroid is knackered and my miscarriage and anomaly risks are high.

Other than that, I am having a little smile:

Ack!! twins!! Hadn't thought about that yet! DH is an identical twin and so is his gran so it runs in the family. Don't know how anyone deals with more than one!

Sweetkitty - we do a lot of work with DNA, so I'll be avoiding phenol/chloroform extractions and a certain kind of electrophoresis gels with acrylamide and formamide in it. I work with mycoplasmas, which aren't really dangerous to humans so there's not too much risk in my job. How funny to have two microbiologists on here!!

sweetkitty · 03/07/2007 23:11

Derah - I haven't ran a gel since uni. I stumbled into the food side of things and kind of stayed there. Only problem is there is no jobs up here for that kind of work so I'm snookered well and truly. Am hoping one day to retrain as a primary school teacher but I do miss bacteria now and again.

siennammm · 04/07/2007 05:45

oh my god, sweetkitty and derah - are you two talking another language ?????? wish i could contribute but dont have a clue!! yep, twins run in our family too and having a nuchal fold again this time like we did before as I am 40 next year - said I was going to squeeze in another baby before I hit the big 40 and baby is due on 2nd March so just made it in time to have a crash diet for my big party!!! hope everyone else is feeling okay this morning?? XX

merryberry · 04/07/2007 08:53

hello timmy, hello all.

well, i'm feeling rubbish though I'm glad the hormones are swilling around of course. ds's uncle has taken him to hampstead for a run and i have to take the bus challenge (how many stops before throwing up? sweepstake open here) to go and get the party supplies in for ds's b'day w/e.

derah, i'm not a micro, i'm an infectious diseases epidemiologist. or was, left hpa who I was running london's infectious disease surveillance systems for in february. before that worked at colindale when hpa was phls. doing some information architecture consultancy now. just finished a pig of a job, loathed it. hence having a treat of the morning off. hope the next contract is better.

i kid you not, staring at moving letters on the screen is making me queasy, better get some fresh air, ttfn.

derah · 04/07/2007 09:27

Morning! Gosh you're up early Siennammm. Feeling good today, am at work and feeling secretly smug about having such a lovely secret.

Anyway, boss has left an e-mail with stuff to do (I get in earlier than him) so must get cracking

sweetkitty · 04/07/2007 09:56

morning all feeling a bit off colour this morning but feel better since I had some toast

merryberry - epidemiologist sounds very interesting as does the consultanacy work your doing now, sometimes I wish I could work 1 or 2 days a week but with 2 sets of nursery fees to find it's just not viable.

Big good morning to everyone else as well, off to start the usual housework!

timmyinatizzy · 04/07/2007 11:58

Morning everyone. Indeed twins would be a challenge, although have some practice after the age of 4 with twins as thats when I met dps twin id daughters. I always had a fantasy of having twin boys, but now I'm not so sure .

I'm returning my nuchal scan form back to my doctors today, so I should get a date soonish. Suppose I'm lucky 3madboys I get mine done on the NHS at Kings College hospital here in London.

ConnorTraceptive · 04/07/2007 16:18

hello all

feeling quite well today but that might have something to do with the fact that ds slept in until 10.30am today, hope he does that everyday for the next 8 months

No sickness yet which is good I really don't want to get it like I had last time. Just got to remember to have regular snacks I think. stopped eating altogether last time which I think was a HUGE mistake.

lauzie · 04/07/2007 17:44

Hi all, have just found out that i am 5+2 not 4+2 making my due date 02.03.08 not 9th as i had originally thought! if ds is anything to go by it could be a leap year baby so Feb not march! as by dating scan I was 2 days further on than Clinic date. and he came on his due date. Poor thing if it does, 1 b/day in 4 years!

marjoram · 04/07/2007 19:16

Hello all,

I can't keep my eyes open. Sleeping doesn't help. Maybe it's worse because I've cut down on the coffee and knocked the evil roll ups on the head. What do people think about caffeine? When I had my DD in 2000 it was ok to have a cup or two, now it seems that it is an EVIL drug. However I remember one memorable occasion when a man, yes a man, told me I shouldn't be drinking a cup of coffee. For heaven's sake, anybody would think I was mainlining smack right into my womb. Have the pregnancy police got worse in the last 8 years? Anybody get any other tips on feelimg more alert? I have a fulltime daughter and job to look after!!
Hope everyone else is well.

ConnorTraceptive · 04/07/2007 19:21

I'm allowing myself one cup of coffee in the morning and then it's decaf tea the rest of the time which i'm finding hard but it's better than DH breathing down my neck

I am quite tired but find a snack perks me up. Will be a right old bloater if i'm not carefull!

marjoram · 04/07/2007 19:33

omg, do I have to drink decaf tea? Life is going to be so miserable
You must have a will of iron connor!

derah · 04/07/2007 19:34

I usually have 2-3 cups of tea a day but have decided to switch to Earl Grey Rooibos once I get to the shops to buy some this weekend. Sigh.... But I will still have a cup of real tea if I need one....

marjoram · 04/07/2007 19:42

You know, I'd just got over the fact that I had bought a BIG bottle of Pimms and then found out I was pregnant 4 hours later (after my dp's hunch). Now the cold realisation of the tea situation is finally sinking in. Oh dear! Still, I'd rather be in this situation than not so I have decided not to complain too much. Isn't that surprisingly mature for a tearful sore boobed knackered woman?

ConnorTraceptive · 04/07/2007 20:39

No if I had iron will i'd drop the morning coffee too

i tried decaff coffee but frankly it's like alcohol free beer What's the point?

Also read that tea and coffee is bad for iron absorbsion I had low iron and a massive heamhorage (sp?)last time so want to keep the old iron well up this time

marjoram · 04/07/2007 21:05

Oh yes, anything's better than those iron tablets. I'm going to have a coffee in the morning, herbal the rest of the day and a cup of tea with Coronation Street. I think that's a win win situation. Having a major dilemma about the BIg Green Gathering festival we booked to go to 1st Aug til 5th. I'll be 8 weeks then and if it's like last time, I'll be peeing constantly. And those hideous portaloos....nowhere to wash hands and the smell. And won't be able to eat there. Problem is my daughter is so looking forward to it. We were supposed to be camping next to friends so I might ask if they'll take her (friend same age as her). What a pain but I guess my health and the health of Sesame Seed (our nickname!)comes first. Anybody here done a festival at 8 weeks pregnant?

marjoram · 04/07/2007 21:06

Also. meant to say sorry to hear about your haemmorage last time, Connor

waiting4bambino · 04/07/2007 21:11

I've been wondering if i would be ok to drink diet coke - because of the caffeine and the aspartame. But I put sweetener on my cereal nearly every day.... There are so many things that you can feel guilty about!

Sweetkitty! The bobbly bits on my boobs are gonna ooze?! What will they ooze?! Not milk from every bobble?

I havent been getting much sleep since i got my bfp - i find it a bit uncomfortable to lie on my belly and when i lie on my back i get paranoid about the vena cava thing that i read, where you can cut off oxygen to the baby?! Is this in the later stages? There's so much to thing of!

timmyinatizzy · 04/07/2007 21:35

My tiredness has kicked in over the last 2 days. Can't believe that something so small is making me feel so tired.

Marjoram - No help about festivals and being 8 weeks pregnant, but I sympathise about the toilets. Was at the Isle of Wight festival at the beginning of June and by even the Saturday evening the toilets were minging [pooey emoticon]. Although when me and dp looked we think that junior could of been conceived over that weekend, as we bd the Thursday night before I went (dp didn't go, he doesn't do camping), and the Monday I came back. I'd been charting my cycle and that was when my most fertile time was. Hope junior didn't mind being fed alcohol and crap food for its first few days..

As for the caffeine. I've been drinking decaf tea at work for a couple of months anyway, so when I was in Sainsburys on Sunday I brought some decaf tea bags. They are actually quite nice. I can't quite give up the coffee yet though. Going to try and limit myself to a couple a week. Do I need to avoid Candarel too. I gave up sugar cos it was bad a couple of years ago, don't tell me I have to give Candarel up too

lauzie · 04/07/2007 21:44

w4b~ I'm drinking caffeine free coke, tastes just like diet coke. Can't get away with caffeine free tea bags though, I like it really strong builders tea, so if anyone finds some that are stong let me know!

waiting4bambino · 04/07/2007 21:44

Hi Timmy! Surprised anyone's on! Usually when i post, there aren't any replies until the following morning!

I know what you mean about the tiredness! I can hardly get through BB these days!

timmyinatizzy · 04/07/2007 21:53

I'm going to be off in a moment, got some zzzz to catch. I'm on the school run shift in the morning.

My aim for tomorrow is to not fall asleep on the train home. I've done it twice in 2 days and thats strange for me.

marjoram · 04/07/2007 21:54

timmyinatizzy. thx for the festival info. The last festival I did was Glastonbury 1992, 15years ago!!!! Actually, the more I think about this festival coming up the less I want to go. The thought of those loos is making me heave now and I don't even have the nausea yet!
I don't think you're supposed to have too much artificial sweetener but hey, a little of everything can't hurt, except pate and brie of course. When you think about all the billions of babies born over the centuries in all sorts of conditions we do seem to be a bit precious here in the West in the 21st century. I know we all want the best for our unborn babies but I'm still going to have a diet coke now and again if I want! So there! [sigh of relief emoticon]

marjoram · 04/07/2007 21:57

I'm off to bed now too, just stayed up to press record for Brothers and Sisters. My sky+ is playing up.
Goodnight posters, sweet dreams.

waiting4bambino · 04/07/2007 21:59

Good night all then! Hope you get a restful night without that boffing feeling! xxxxx zzzz
