Hi all and congrats to the Pulas!

Have had an eventful 12 hours. Had lots of tightening and cramping overnight and then vomiting (sorry if tmi!). Managed to sleep for 4ish hours and decided this morning to give midwives a call as wasn't sure how much I'd felt baby moving in the last 24 hours. Went straight to the hospital for monitoring (luckily DS has nursery on Thursday mornings!). Baby all fine, heartbeat good and obviously started doing a jive the minute I went on the monitoring machine. After a while midwife looked at the printout and said "You do know you're having quite regular tightenings don't you?", which I kind of did but hadn't really thought to tell anyone as they are only causing mild discomfort and are not particular painful or noticibly regular. Upshot is I've come home (could have stayed in if I wanted to) until they become proper contractions - more regular and/or painful.

Have agreed another new birth plan to try for VBAC if I go into labour in the next few days or if that doesn't happen will have scheduled c-section next Wednesday. Good thing about going in this morning was they did my pre-op appointment at the same time so I am first on the elective list for next wednesday! However am kind of hoping to go into proper labour sooner, which now doesn't look beyond the realms of possibility, and give VBAC a go.

Hope everyone else is well...

twoplusone · 28/06/2007 14:05

abgirl- How exciteing.. sending you lots of labour vibes..

Firststar I know I am starting to worry about it abit.. but not alot I can do about it.. at this rate I will be driving myself to where ever he is.. (after I have dropped the kids of) with a change of clothes for him, and telling him to get changed and into the car.. even then he will prob look at me with a confused expression on his face!! lol

The lads at work are organising a bowling comp for next wed.. DH is asking me whether he can go or not.. The only prob is I need the car to pick up DD from her cheerleading class, which finishes the same time the comp starts, so if anything happened he wont have transport to get home... (Thats if I could get hold of him to tell him he needs to get home lol...) as the bowling alley is 20mins away on the next camp..

abgirl · 28/06/2007 14:14

twoplusone, what is the taxi service like over there? Maybe your DH could get a taxi back if he was suddenly needed quickly. That was our fallback option when my DH went on a horseracing stag do a couple of weekends ago - the fact that we had a plan obviously meant nothing happened...

Thanks for the labour vibes and sending some back to you...

twoplusone · 28/06/2007 14:26

Not sure will get him to look into if they have a taxi service on camp.. the other thing I could do is phone guard room and get duty driver to get him I suppose. As you say though if a plan is in action then nothing will happen..lol..

I will cross that bridge.. if I get to it.. Hopefyllu dh will become more accesable.. I have now got the numbers for his bosses.. But that is only anyuse to me when he is on this camp and not the other one..!! his course ends today and he hasnt got another one till August!!.. Thankfully..

Thinking back I must sound like a right whinger and my life seems full of goings on.. I always seem to have something to whinge about.. I am not a whinger or moaner in rl honest!!!! (Although dh would probably disagree with me lol)

JAM - Sorry to hear about the mortgage woes! They certainly don't make it easy do they? We had trouble getting our mortgage because DH has never been in debt! THey were happy to lend to me but not him. On the positive side our financial advisor recommended an online mortgage company that ok'd our mortgage immediately (on boxing day no less!) Good luck and enjoy your chocolate!

Abgirl - OMG! Sounds like it could be labour...I hope you get the birth you want. Keep us posted.

Twoplusone - We know your not a whinger or a moaner!

Well I left a message for my DH to call me 2 hours ago (lm with his boss) and his boss didnt give it to him.....DH said if I am in labour I have to tell him otherwise he will forget! Lets hope I go into labour at night when he is home!

Just walked my dog (had a spurt of energy) but have now got a seriously painful backache! Dog looks knackered though

Big hugs to all...

Cyee · 28/06/2007 16:57

Hi all,

Thanks for all the good vibes for my last day at work yesterday. All went well and I am celebrating my first day of mat leave by being a complete slob

What exciting news Abgirl! Keep us posted - sending lots of positive vibes your way. Thanks a million for all the stats you've been doing all these months. Been meaning to say that for a while - much appreciated!

On the breast/bottle stuff, I agree with the view that too much pressure is put on women about bf (and eating, drinking during pg, child rearing generally). I really wish 'they' would start exploring why it is that we all feel the way we do, rather than preaching all the time. I think everyone knows that ideally bf is good. However there are loads of cultural, physical, sensual, psychological, practical reasons why many can't/won't. Surely it's best to discuss these and then let people make their own choices. My view is that a happy mum = happy baby, no matter how they're fed. I am possibly biased because I was bottle/formula fed and clearly I have turned out very well . I felt so fired up after my AN class I nearly wrote to them about it... can't imagine what I would have done if there had been an SMA rep there!!!!!!

Aaaanyway - I hope everyone is taking it easy. Sorry to hear about the tummy bugs, the acid (Kyte, that sounds bleedin' terrifying!), the aches, the unreachable partners.... we are a tough bunch aren't we? The world would grind to a halt if many men had to go through all that. My DH is developing a serious awe of women, and can oft be heard muttering 'God I'm glad I'm not a woman' as he potters around the house

Take care of yourselves and your bumps.

typhoonsmum · 28/06/2007 16:58

Hi everyone.

I have a really heavy achy feeling in my pelvis. I thought it may be the head engaging but I asked one of the the nurses in work (who used to be a chief midwife) to check and she said it wasn't. It hurt when she was checking as well. Never has done before. (Stubborn child must take after his dad)
If I sit down and then stand up I stiffen and have to slowly straighten up. I am walking like a penguin and I don't have a huge bump.
Anyone else have this.

Caroline1852 · 28/06/2007 17:24

typhoonsmum - from your symptoms it sounds as though you are heavily pregnant LOL!
I had such a terrible night's sleep last night and today I have eaten a Magnum and a white kitkat and now feel even more tired and generally depleted. I have got a casserole in the oven and as soon as I have stacked the dishwasher after supper I am going to head for my bed and watch tv there.
Abgirl - good luck I wish you all the very best for a safe and uneventful VBAC.

Abgirl- How inconsiderate of you! Who will do the stats list? Hold it in until Saturday!

typhoonsmum · 28/06/2007 18:03

Is that why my clothes have got tighter Caroline I was wondering.

catstar · 28/06/2007 18:55

Can't keep up with all the action on here - it was easier when I was at work !

Just wanted to mention - Typhoonsmum - I have the same thing, v small bump but really quite painful to stand up and then I waddle away. I'm actually better once I've been for a walk and keep mobile.

Also getting lots of period like pains, but no other action as yet. Feel like having a good cry actually, even though I am really excited and happy.

Congrats to the Pulas, thanks for sharing your story 3flights - and good luck to everyone else!!!

Myfairone · 28/06/2007 19:17

Catstar - Your allowed to cry you know...go ahead and have a good ol' sob and you will feel tons better.

Typhoonsmum - Thank you! I am absolutely the same. My tummy is small and compact (like a beach ball) but I find it impossible to stand up without groaning. It just feels so uncomfortable and then I kind of sway as I start waddling. It takes me a fair few paces before I can rectify my walking.

Caroline - A magnum and white kit kat! YUM!

Cyee - My DH has said many times now that if men were the ones expected to go through pregnancy there would be no babies!

Okay girls, I need your help. I feel fine but a rash has developed across my bump. Not itchy but they are like little raised lumps under the skin and look like goosebumps. Any ideas? Been covering myself in copious amounts of oil since day 1 of pregnancy so I dont think its that.

Hope you are all well and feeling fine...Abgirl, are you next???? so exciting!

bilblio · 28/06/2007 19:19

Congratulations Pulapula and family. So pleased to hear everything went well and the floods only caused a slight delay.

Dewmeadow - yes, I'm still getting the period like cramps, some days they're there all day, others none at all, other day they come and go. I mentioned it to the midwife at my last ante-natal appointment and her precise words were "ooh, that's good, we like them. It means your body is getting ready".
I thought, I don't like them so much, but so long as they're good I'll cope
I haven't noticed the contracting abdomen, but I've been expecting it as they're BH. I know not all first timers notice them though.
I certainly feel "heavily pregnant" now

Myfairone - I'm shocked at the SMA rep being present at your classes. We've discussed formula and breast feeding at ours but only with the midwives. They've all been very pro-breastfeeding, but also seem realistic and supportive about it. I'm just hoping it continues if I have problems.

Abgirl - exciting news, keeping my fingers crossed.

JAM - can't believe your house stresses. Why does it have to be so complicated? We've only ever moved once and hope never to have to do it again. Hope it all gets sorted soon.

DP is making me laugh, he doesn't work so I'm getting round the clock pampering. He looks concerned everytime I groan at an ache or twinge, and you should have seen how fast he came running when I stubbed my toe yesterday. I should stop winding him up though, or he might not believe me when it's real.

Had a rotten night last night, not really acid indigestion, but chest pains and no sleep. I kept thinking of Kyte and being grateful it was nothing worse.
It did mean I finished reading the Harry Potter books, 6 books in 3 weeks, but I'd rather have been asleep.

Is anyone else getting really paranoid that they might be going into labour and not realising every time they need a poo?

huskygirl · 28/06/2007 19:49

Hi all, hope all the newborns are getting on well and everyone else is ok.

I've had a nightmare today. I had my midwife appointment and i complained about the dizzyness i've been having and tiredness and the midwife was not bothered at all. She said if there was a problem the hospital would have phoned me when i had my bloods done there 2-3 weeks ago. Anyhow there was also a new midwife in my appointment who is lovely, and she turned round to the other one and said "isnt it advisable to double check with the hospital for her to see if her results were ok" So begrudgingly (sp!) the old midwife phoned the hosp. On 24th May my hb was 11.1 by 14th June (hosp blood test) my hb had dropped to 10.0, that was 2 weeks ago. So they immediately went to get me an iron prescription written out by the doc! They were not impressed that I had not been contacted by the hosp, but to be honest i'm not surprised. Lets just hope i begin to feel better now.

Also the new midwife asked me about the imminent birth. I said no one else has even mentioned my birth plan to me even though i've raised concerns that i'm high risk due to last birth, live an hour away from the hospital and was only 5 hours in labour last time. She had for some reason presumed they had booked me in for a c section, but nothing has been mentioned. I only today found out where to call when i go into labour as i was given several dept numbers with notes book. I dont know if its hormones or what but i really feel that with this preg i've just been left to fend for myself and i dont get any answers or action unless i push them. I have been continually monitored such as scans - 5 so far but even in those i'm just told "its fine" no more info.

Sorry for moaning just getting anxious and feel a bit alone

abgirl · 28/06/2007 20:01

huskygirl am sorry to hear about the poor service you're experiencing - are you under consultant or midwife led care? I would make an appointment/ring the consultant/midwifery manager to discuss your concerns - write them all down first so you don't get all flustered and forget everything. Otherwise would recommend lots of chocolate .

Meant to say earlier (but forgot in general excitement about tightenings etc) that I have recently read an excellent book on breast feeding which I would highly recommend called 'What to expect when you're breastfeeding and what to do when you can't..' by Clare Byam-Cook. Full of very practical and useful advice and my copy is going into my ever-expanding hospital bag. I picked up a copy in Blooming Marvellous, but I expect it is available (and cheaper) on Amazon.

As for me being next I think we should wait to hear from Madmumnika, who doesn't seem to have posted for the last few days.

Jennsterfroglover - have no fear, this week's stats are already prepared and will do my upmost to post them before any minute dashes to the delivery suite (I wish - will probably still be sat here going on about tightenings next week!!)

huskygirl · 28/06/2007 20:34

hi abgirl, was just wondering about madmum sounds like your getting close though!

I am under consultant led care, with DD had eclampsia, low birth weight, manual placenta recovery, haemorrage, blah blah you name it i had it. Fingers crossed this time tho! My consultant is actually the lead obstetrition (cant spell it!) for the whole hosp. Which you would think would ease my concerns. Do you think I should try to arrange to see her? I've got a scan with her on 13th July but i dont suppose she'll be able to chat much then. Surely i should be feeling more at ease than this?

bubble78 · 28/06/2007 21:41

hi girls i will appolagise now if this is tmi

i am 36 weeks and full of cold now earlier on when i blew my nose or coughed i felt like i had leak a little wee...

about 20 mins ago i coughed and had to change my clothes they where that wet..
i have put a maternity pad on and just had to change that as it was wet just from standing up and going to the kitchen..

now it feels like its coming from where you wee but with ds i was induced so never had the sensation of waters breaking
i am getting no paind by the way
could it just be poor pelvic floor combined with having a cough or could it be my waters?????

JennsterFrogLover · 28/06/2007 21:49

If it's happening when you cough then very likely it's your bladder..(join the club)

Apparently when your waters break they smell very different to wee. Sweeter, but then when my waters went I couldn't tell. I clearly have fragrant urine.
