We have run out of space on the other thread.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Here the mw brings the box of 'bits in case things go wrong' with her and gas & air. I did read that in some areas they don't bring anything round beforehand, they just bring everything with them.

DH found a good site with a list of things that you need for a hb. If I can remember which site it is (or find it again) I will post a link.

Caroline1852 · 26/06/2007 14:50

I am so impressed hearing about all your planned home births. I am already coming out in cold sweats every time I think about my schedule c-section (I will find out on Friday exactly what date it will be). If I was scheduled to have a home birth I would need to be on a huge dose of valium by now.... and I am normally a very laid back, calm sort of person.

Hi all - just trying to catch up with everything very quickly, but soooo much going on it is impossible!

Firstly - congrats 3flights! I bet you are feeling mightily relieved you are not preggers anymore, with those stairs to contend with!

Good luck Pulapula - hope all goes well with your C-sec.

MelissaM - if you can remember that site about homebirths I'd really appreciate it. Having a last minute panic about whether I want one or not! I've been so sure all along, and now suddenly I am all dubious!

Will try and catch up properly later/tomorrow

Jamantha · 26/06/2007 19:01

Trouble keeping up to date now that almost all day is spent looking after LO. But congratulations 3flights.

keiralou · 26/06/2007 20:28

Hi all, sounds like people are being really busy either having babies, caring for them or preparing for them. Have almost got my hospital bag ready - a bit behind schedule, but dd was 2 weeks late and I'm kind of in that mind set of thinking it will be the case again...

Had a mw appt yesterday and was told baby is lying posterior (ie facing the wrong way) This has thrown me in to a pnaic and was v tearful yesterday as my dd was born that way (failed ventouse then forceps on the final push before c-section) and really can't face the thought of it all again - a slow, drawn out and painful labour.

Have vowed to myself that I will scrub every damn floor in the house on my hands and knees, as the only advice I've been given by mw is to go on all fours. Has anyone else been told anything else? Last time around I wasn't aware of the position until well in to the labour. Really want to try anything to get it shifted- I just want to have a normal delivery if there is such a thing!!

pulapula · 26/06/2007 22:55

Sorry to post so late in the day - you were very high up Pula's list of people to tell!

Our new son Ben was slightly delayed by our midwife getting caught in the floods (we should really have avoided Sheffield's monsoon season), but he finally arrived around 12.45pm, weighing 8 pounds 4.5 ounces and everything in tact.

Sure Pula will fill you in on the details very soon, but she asked me to say that CS was quick and painless and a huge improvement on the last delivery experience. Pula's been very calm and relaxed all afternoon- at least when I left them about an hour ago.

Good luck to you all!

The DH

twoplusone · 27/06/2007 07:07

Congratulations mr and Mrs Pulapula and welcome to little Ben.

Glad the c-section went well and you had a more positve birth experience this time..

(thank you for letting us know Mr Pulapula)

CaraLondon · 27/06/2007 07:54

Hey keiralou - I have been told that position works too, if it's any consolation. Best of luck.

Myfairone · 27/06/2007 08:33

Congrats to Mr and Mrs Pula! Wow what a good DH you are to log on and let us all know! Glad to hear that Ben arrived safely and a really decent weight too...well done.

Well, holding a newborn didn't bring on labour but did bring on a complete state of panic for me! (Being a first time Mum) it just highlighted that I know nothing!

My very good friend gave me a nappy changing lesson and a breastfeeding lesson (don't you just realise how good a friend you have when she's happy to get her boobs out and let you have a look)

I feel tons better today and so much more motivated. Being pregnant is so much easier now my tummy bug has gone!

Twoplusone - I'm so sorry to hear that your feeling emotional. Just think, very soon you will be holding your little bundle of joy and all this will be a distant memory...big hugs.

Weather here (London) is rainy yet again...when am I ever going to get to wash my baby clothes?! grrrrr....

Miaou · 27/06/2007 08:50

Congratulations pulapula! Thank you very much MrPula for letting us know - we have been on tenterhooks here ... really glad to hear all is going well

I had to see the GP yesterday as my iron levels have dropped to 98.7 - however when he realised how far on I was (36+ weeks) he said there's not much point taking them now, as there isn't really enough time to make a difference! He was very apologetic at having got me to come in! Quite relieved - I really didn't want to take them and was prepared for an argument . Took them during pg with dd1 and never again, I tell you! So I am just going to drink more OJ and hopefully increase absorption that way.

Saw my friend on Monday who has breast cancer - she is being amazingly positive and has a date for the op (before the baby is born) - so fingers crossed for her.

Myfairone · 27/06/2007 08:59

Miaou - Glad to hear that your iron levels are not going to cause a problem at this stage....
I cannot imagine how difficult life must be for your friend right now. That said, if she can stay positive it will help her so much (my Mum was managed to remain positive throughout and it really helped)

She needs positive people around her so just be there for her as much as you can.

MelissaM · 27/06/2007 09:09

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Pulapula. Glad all went well

Bodkin, this is the homebirth site I was thinking of. Another is the yahoo homebirth group. There are also loads of positive homebirth stories on mumsnet. But don't worry if you change your mind and would prefer to be in hospital. Whatever you decide to do is right for you. It is normal to get anxious though. I have my moments! Although the amount of kicking my lo did yesterday and last night makes me think I just what him/her out now!

Kieralou I've heard being on all 4's is the best position to turn lo. Also try to make sure you sleep on your left. If you have a gym / birthing ball, sitting on that can help too. Good luck.

Cyee · 27/06/2007 09:12

Congrats to the Pulapula family and welcome to Ben! Really glad everything went well and the floods didn't cause more than a delay!

Keiralou, I've seen people reference a Spinning Babies web site on Mumsnet. Apparently it's all about optimal positioning and moving the baby. Maybe it'll have some tips? Sorry to hear you're feeling low about things.. and hope the scrubbing = a new position for the LO.

Today's my last day at work... and I have the rescue remedy in my handbag... I think reality is going to hit with a bump (!) when I leave here tonight. I'm not ready for all this!

Jamantha · 27/06/2007 09:26

Congratulations to all the pulas!!

JennsterFrogLover · 27/06/2007 09:30

Ugh thanks for the tummy bug Myfairone. Your computer has passed the virus on to me. Couldn't eat a thing yesterday. No vomiting just the other But also have stinking cold since Friday that is getting a bit better, but cough making me leak wee again. PELVIC FLOOR PELVIC FLOOR PELVIC FLOOR

Sister (who is a Dr in Obs and Gyn at the moment while training to be a GP) had a feel of tummy last night and thought I was 2/5 engaged as she could feel 3/5. Also she said spine is right down the centre and I thought yeah like you know more than my midwife who said head was free and spine to left last time, but actually I think she's right. Baby has moved because all movements are symmetrical rather than to the right.

Congratulations Pulapula and baby Ben

Myfairone · 27/06/2007 09:35

Cyee - Try not to get too worked about leaving! Everything will be fine and this is just the next phase of life! Embrace it and good luck.

Jennster - I am so sorry! Call someone immediately and get some diaralyte delivered to your door! It seriously perked me up and at least you know that the bub is getting everything it needs. Infact mine used to dance around when I drank it! Blackcurrant or natural are best and even better if you can drink it straight from the fridge with ice. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm off to an antenatal class...why am I nervous????

See ya'all later.

Groveregg · 27/06/2007 11:03

Wow congratulation to the Pula family! Hate to think what my dh would write in my name if he got onto mumsnet!

Not sure I fancy the sound of your homebirth boxes, I think I'm quite glad I only had the friendly midwife round and nothing else for the time being!

Anyone else having trouble with sleep again? I was doing really well apart from the inevitable trips to the loo but for the last few days I cannot get back to sleep for ages once I've had a wee. Plagued by thoughts of everything that needs to be done before the big event, and also horrible furry mouth from all the snoring I'm apparently doing at the moment...

Jennster, sorry to hear you're not feeling well now. Hope you recover quickly.

Groveregg I am apparently snoring lots too. The breath right strips that I have used in the past don't seem to be working anymore either. I think the snoring is down to my mouth and throat getting dry, but I can't drink anymore - I was up almost hourly last night (again)

Kyte, sorry to hear of your scary night. I don't have any suggestions I am afraid.

Cyee, enjoy your last day at work!

Myfairone, hope the antenatal class went well.

Hope everyone else is ok today.

Myfairone · 27/06/2007 15:54

Kyte - So sorry to hear of your scary evening. Nothing worse than waking up like that and it leaves you feeling so unsettled. I hope that you can get some rest and try and have a relaxing bath before going to bed 'propped up'!

I havent slept in what seems like months but have moved into the spare room. Despite the fact that DH has always snored it was causing real problems between us as he seems to resent the fact I'm preventing him sleeping!

Well I went to the ante natal class but cant help thinking it is a waste of time. Firstly a talk from a rep who worked for SMA (so guess what she was talking about for an hour!!!) and then a midwife describing 'the perfect labour'! Maybe I'm short on patience but the entire time I was in there I was thinking about things I could have been doing!

Big hugs to all and I hope that all feel well today (Jennster, hope your okay!)

Miaou · 27/06/2007 18:47

Myfairone, am totally and that they would have an SMA rep at antenatal classes - I would say that is seriously immoral - ooh I can feel my blood pressure going up already!!!!

My local m/ws are running antenatal classes during the day atm but I didn't go to the first one as it was about "the last stages of pg and and introduction to labour", but I shall probably go to next week's, which is looking at labour in more detail. I might have to take ds though, and it's two hours long, so I'm in two minds about it atm.

I had a rotten night's sleep last night, but OMG Kyte, it was nothing to your night!!! How incredibly scary for you and dh! Wish I had some advice for you but honestly I never knew it could happen. I didn't feel like doing anything today, but suggested we take the dds and ds swimming after school. We had a lovely time; the toddler pool is sooo warm and relaxing (I'm beyond being able to relax in a bath now!), and I even swam a few widths of the main pool (nothing too strenuous ). The dds break up from school tomorrow afternoon so my peace and quiet is limited from now on ...!
