As we enter month 5 of our pregnancies we need a 5th thread!

Good luck to everyone having their 20 week scan this/next week :)

@Nikkil122 I haven’t got a clue 😂 I’m just gunna see what I get paid!

SpriteGirl · 28/05/2018 10:51

@NikkiL123 you’ll need to read your employers maternity pay policy and then speak to your HR or payroll department about what you’re entitled to (unless you are self employed) Your maternity pay will be dependent on your income not household income although child benefit will. Statutory maternity pay is 6 weeks at 90% of your pay and then 33 weeks at £145. But you might get your employers maternity pay on top of this or you may only be entitled to maternity allowance you’ll need to look into this.

SpriteGirl · 28/05/2018 10:54

@NikkiL123 the tax will depend on what you earn. The first 6 weeks @ 90% you will likely get taxed. You can also end up getting tax paid back to you as time goes on.

NikkiL123 · 28/05/2018 10:57

@SpriteGirl thank you, i know for sure my work don't pay anything other than SMP so it was more 'benefits' side of things that i am unsure of. Xx

Anyone else hardcore nesting??
I’ve been to ikea today. Got a mirror and shelf for the downstairs loo and put it up. New bedding for my daughters room, arranged all the shelves and ornaments/lamps etc in the living room. Been in the garage and found some more photo frames and ornaments to put around the house. I’ve been to the range and home bargains to pick up a few bits like candles and stuff.
I’m like a woman possessed!!

I also ordered a new corner bathroom cabinet and I want to get another small one for next to the sink. I won’t rest until it’s all done!!

Gem173 · 28/05/2018 19:48

@Emmasmum2013 I wish I had that! I can’t be bothered to even get off of the sofa :( my flat is too small to buy any more things for. So I just got to prey that I get the urge to clean before baby’s here otherwise I may never have the time! Went to Lidl this morning to do our 2 weekly shop. Legit got up had a shower and could only find a blue tracksuit to wear! I went out looking like an overweight chav 😂 didn’t help I was really moody with oh this morning for just making me hurry out the door...

Gem173 · 28/05/2018 19:51

Just wondering, when does BH kick in? Not that I’ve had any sort of pains, just curious as to when they could develop. I think I read that they are similar to labour pains, a lot like period pain but don’t get progressively worse and don’t occur as often as labour would.

Gizzymum · 28/05/2018 20:02

@Gem173 I think they can kick in at any time and not everyone will have them. I had them 3 weeks before DS was born (so at about 35/36wks). The felt like what I imagined labour pains to feel like at the beginning - almost stomach cramps with a bit of back ache - and they were very regular. I had them for pretty much 10 hours the first day but they didn't increase in intensity or frequency. It was still bad enough though that walking around was uncomfortable. I had them one other day too but that was it.

My DS has had 4 DC and I don't think she ever had them.

NikkiL123 · 28/05/2018 20:21

@Emmasmum2013 i have the urges but i am not allowed to express them 😫, i was looking at the garden fence yesterday and said to OH i was going to paint it, well you would have though i had said i was going to spray paint obscenities all over it with the reaction i got!! He is so overly OCD about DIY he just wouldn't let me anywhere near a paint brush!! So i just potter about with a duster and some polish 😂

StrawberryLemonade · 28/05/2018 20:38

Ive had BH since about 19 weeks this time. Getting lots daily now but they’re never painful just aware of them and bump goes rock hard when they happen. Happens more when I’ve been overdoing things.

I have nesting instincts but no energy to act on them currently!

NikkiL123 · 28/05/2018 20:52

Anyone found a way to paint toenails without squishing bump yet?! Bump is seriously getting in the way 😫 x

StrawberryLemonade · 28/05/2018 21:02

2 options Nikki

  1. Ignore the toenails you won’t be able to see them soon
  2. Pedicure!

I’m opting for number 1 Grin

NikkiL123 · 28/05/2018 21:17

@StrawberryLemonade i've never had a pedicure before Blush a stranger touching me feet freaks me out 😂. think option 1 is going to have to be it! X

StrawberryLemonade · 28/05/2018 21:26

Me too Nikki! I’d happily have a manicure but feet... nope!

somersetsinger · 28/05/2018 22:21

You could always ask your OH to paint them, Nikkil. If he's so good at DIY then surely he can achieve appropriate accuracy! I like my toenails to be bright colours in the summer but have had to give up and go au naturel. Boo.

peterpanwendy · 28/05/2018 22:52

I really struggled to cut my toe nails the other day. Complained about my first world problem to MIL and she offered to paint them!! Couldn't believe it but I'm now the proud owner of some lovely red polished toes 🙊

Emmasmum2013 · 28/05/2018 23:26

My left big toe nail currently looks like it’s been in a fight with the clippers and lost.
Tried to trim them the other day and managed it but that one was particularly difficult to do and I made a total mess of it. It’s kind of goes down towards the middle somehow!!!
Hoping it grows out a bit and I can file it straight again and get a pedicure. But I also hate my feet and find them really embarrassing Blush

Gem173 · 29/05/2018 07:55

I ain’t bothered about my toes! Yeah they are ugly etc but tbh I’m more embarrassed about my vagina and the state it’s gunna be in, in front of the midwives! I know they have all seen it before but still embarrassing for me!
I have had to tell oh that sex is a no go now until the baby’s born. And tbh I thought he would take it hard but after describing how much thrush I get and what it currently looks like, he’s more than willing to leave it and have sex after the baby’s born. Not like I can’t do foreplay so he can still get some sexy time lol

Back to work today after the long weekend and it feels like crap lol I have no more holiday until August so just got to power through!

NikkiL123 · 29/05/2018 08:38

@somersetsinger i asked him to do it before i posted on here and he said no 🙁, i reckon if i keep asking i might persuade him!

@Gem173 totally with you on that, i am mortified having a smear test so knowing at least 1 stranger is going to be looking down there for probably the best part of 24 hours (at least!!) is not going to be fun!! No holiday left either so counting down is on, 9 weeks until maternity leave begins and 11 weeks today until due date 😃 x

Emmasmum2013 · 29/05/2018 08:52

@Gem173 Don't worry, they've seriously seen it all before. And I know that doesn't help much but at least it'll all go back to normal after the baby is born. Not long to go now!! I also hate going for smear tests etc at the best of times, I actually considered surgery on mine. But then I thought well maybe after children. But now I just don't care as much haha.

Which reminds me, I need to get a wax before my hols arghhh Blush

Gem173 · 29/05/2018 09:29

Not sure how il tidy my bits! I can’t really get right under it 🙄 ah well il have to try be flexible! I got 10 weeks 6 days (11 weeks) till mat leave and 13 weeks 1 day till due date! Countdown is on!

Emmasmum2013 · 29/05/2018 09:38

8 ish weeks til mat leave starts (I hope, might be 9 depending how much annual leave I've got left)
12+1 til due date.
How did we get here so fast?!

peterpanwendy · 29/05/2018 09:48

I'm currently in my last week of holiday (half term) until mat leave, I have 7 weeks and 2 days left of work (37 days and counting) and 12 weeks 5 days until due date!

I can't believe I'm so close to the third trimester I feel like I've been pregnant forever but also it's gone soooo fast!
