As we enter month 5 of our pregnancies we need a 5th thread!

Good luck to everyone having their 20 week scan this/next week :)

@nikkil123 well I am working Saturday :( and have no plans on bank holiday, but I’m sure I will go out somewhere xx and I feel you on the people at work being thick as planks 😂

nikkil123 · 23/05/2018 11:41

Im working Saturday too 😫. Sending you hugs xx

peterpanwendy · 23/05/2018 14:49

I feel randomly down sometimes too @Gem173 and cry A LOT at the end of a busy day when I am exhausted. I always suggest getting out and getting fresh air, meeting a friend etc is the best medicine x

vixviking · 23/05/2018 20:17

Hi everyone, I've just discovered this thread. Its so good to see others having similar experiences! I'm due 11th August and am both terrified and excited (can't figure out which is winning most days!)

peterpanwendy · 23/05/2018 21:06

Hi @vixviking and welcome! I feel the same, it's quite overwhelming isn't it!

Has anyone packed their hospital bags yet? (Sorry if this has already been posted) I think I might get mine started this weekend I'm 29 weeks now. I have brought a couple of things like nighties and some toiletries.
Has anyone got any tips on what's best to take?

confusedpickle · 24/05/2018 13:55

@Sugarskulllover not even bought a hospital bag yet 🙈 cant find any i like anywhere! X

Sugarskulllover · 24/05/2018 13:59

I had a look on amazon today and you can get prepacked ones for about £25. I think the most cost is for the bag itself but a nice idea! I'm just going to use a holdall I've got for my things and the changing bag I've brought for his things. My SIL took a suitcase big enough for a long haul holiday with her and I can't believe you'd need that much stuff!

SpriteGirl · 24/05/2018 14:14

I started writing a list this week and I've got 57 items on it! Blush

If you search hospital bag on Mumsnet loads of lists come up. One great tip I've seen is to get your partner to pack it, that way they know where things are when you ask for them and you're less likely to want to punch them for being clueless Grin

confusedpickle · 24/05/2018 14:29

@SpriteGirl would you mind sharing the list? I have no idea what to pack!! Xx

SpriteGirl · 24/05/2018 15:00

No problem, you guys will think I'm nuts though there's loads. I'm not necessarily going to take all these things but I wanted it all on the list in case I forget and nearer the time I can decide. Also this is based on my own needs, other people might need/want different things. It's in alphabetical order:

  1. 2 x bottles mini ready made formula (I am planning to breast feed but hospitals like you to have this just in case you struggle)
  2. 3 x breast feeding nighties (don't have to be for nursing, as long as they undo at the front. PJ bottoms/shorts not practical, needs to be nighties)
  3. A dark towel
  4. Baby grows
  5. Baby vests
  6. Birth plan
  7. Car seat
  8. Carrier bag for dirty washing
  9. Cellular blanket
10. Clothes to go home in (me) 11. Conditioner 12. Cotton buds 13. Deodorant 14. Dressing gown 15. Dried fruit 16. Ear plugs 17. Eye cream and moisturiser 18. Eye mask 19. Face wash 20. Fibrogel (stool softener - think thy might give you in hospital anyway?) 21. Flanel 22. Flip flops 23. Food and snacks 24. Fruit 25. Fruit juice cartons 26. Hair brush 27. Hair ties/clips 28. Hand cream 29. Lightweight cardigan (baby) 30. Lip balm 31. Magazine 32. Make up 33. Maternity notes 34. Maternity pads 35. Muslins 36. Nappies 37. Nappy rash cream 38. Nipple cream Lansinoh (this is the best brand. My Pilates instructor mentioned this and I have seen it referenced on here also) 39. Notepad and pen 40. Nursing breast pads 41. Nursing pillow (and an ordinary pillow?) 42. Big/old knickers (need to come high enough to go over c section scar) 43. Old tshirt to give birth in 44. Paracetamol 45. Phone and charge - DH to have everyone's numbers 46. Power charger thing (portable phone charger basically, can't remember what it's called) 47. Shampoo (travel size not big bottles) 48. Shower gel 49. Slippers 50. Socks 51. Tissues 52. Toothbrush 53. Toothpaste 54. Two hats (baby) 55. Water bottles with sports lids - freeze at 2/3 full and top up with water as you leave the house 56. Water wipes (or cotton wool for nappy changes but they don't like baby wipes with all the chemicals. Water wipes are acceptable).

It's 56 as I had a couple of duplicates and then thought of something else. As you can see I travel heavy Grin

Gem173 · 24/05/2018 17:10

When do we make or get our birth plan?

CumbrianExile · 24/05/2018 18:24

The frozen water is a genius idea Gem. I remember last time being soo hot in the hospital!

CumbrianExile · 24/05/2018 18:25

I mean Spritegirl. Sorry I could see Gem had done the last post and just copied her name Blush

SpriteGirl · 24/05/2018 18:36

Can’t take credit for it. Saw it on another MN thread 😆

BunBunMum · 24/05/2018 18:54

Hi All - not sure if you’ll remember me but I was due at the end of August but had a miscarriage at 8+4. Anyway, just wanted to pop on to say I’m now 13 weeks pregnant and everything looked good at my scan last week. Hope everyone is doing well x

SpriteGirl · 24/05/2018 19:14

I remember you @BunBunMum 😊. So pleased for you congratulations. A lot of the activity from this group has now shifted to the Facebook group so you might not get a lot of responses. All the best for the rest of your pregnancy.

BunBunMum · 24/05/2018 19:20

I thought it might have done @SpriteGirl but still thought I’d pop in to say hello incase anyone was left here!

Gem173 · 24/05/2018 19:41

Congrats @bunbunmum, glad to hear all is okay with your rainbow baby, keep us updated on how your pregnancy goes if you want.. I’d love to hear how you get on :)
When’s your due date?

CumbrianExile · 24/05/2018 19:46

Congrats BunBunMum Smile

milney25 · 24/05/2018 19:50

@BunBunMum that's fabulous news!! Congratulations, I am so pleased you came back to tell us - I think often of the ladies who left us in the earlier days. It was such a worrying time for us all.

somersetsinger · 24/05/2018 21:27

Congratulations, BunBunMum. I imagine getting past the first scan and to the safer waters of the second trimester is a massive relief. Hope you have a stress free rest of pregnancy. Thank you for coming back to tell us - I do remember you from the earlier thread(s?) and it is lovely to hear your good news.

SpriteGirl, that's quite some list. Last time, I made DH let down my birthing ball, take it with us and blow it up in the delivery suite. Then I didn't use it! Will be going minimal this time and crossing my fingers that I'm not in for long.

Gizzymum · 24/05/2018 21:47

@SpriteGirl I wouldn't bother with the nursing pillow. You'll manage with hospital
Pillows if needed. As for the ordinary pillow, id only take one if you really struggle to sleep with other pillows

My hospital provided formula and bottles when I struggled to bf so it may be worth asking your midwife or if you do a tour of the labour suite.

Also, hospitals tend to be warm places (they're heated for folks in pj's, and don't tend to have aircon) so the dressing gown would only be needed if you're planning on walking off the ward.

Hope that helps with your packing.

@BunBunMum congratulations!

szwidix89 · 24/05/2018 22:50

That's a long list :P I thought u only stay in hospital for like less than 24 hrs after delivery, unless u have a c section .. I live like 10 mins walk from the hospital so will send DH in case I forget something :P
