Due October 2007 - Anyone else having braxton hicks contractions already?

Hi all October mummies - not been on here before and hope you can help!

I am due to have my second baby on 9th October (am 18 weeks pregnant today). My son was born in Feb 2006 by emergency section for foetal distress. Anyway for the last 48 hours I have been having intermittent cramps associated with tightenings of my uterus that last about 30 seconds. Think these are probably like braxton hicks but although I had these with my first pregnancy it wasn't until much later (about 28 weeks) and they weren't associated with the discomfort. I c alled my maternity ward for advice last night and was told it was nothing. Then after 3 more this am I called my midwife at 8.30 from work. After going through other non-prgnancy related things it could be and ruling them out she said they were probably bh's but that she couldn't rule out early labour and that I should go home and rest and give the hospital a call if they got more frequent or worse.

So I have been in bed or on the sofa most of today (my son is in nursery as I would normally have been at work!). I have had a couple more but none for several hours. Has anyone else had the same and if so I'd be really interested to hear what advice you were given and what you did about it....

Cheers, Alice

I'm 18+4 with my 1st baby, and think I had a BH contraction a few days ago. I woke up early in the morning with a tight but painless feeling in my tummy, and when I felt it it felt really hard and was bulging out more than usual (when I lie down, you can hardly see or feel a bump. It felt like a small bowling ball inside my belly.
I was only aware of it lasting a few seconds. I was about to wake DP to get him to feel it, but it had gone before I had a chance.
