Holiday at 28weeks pregnant?

Hi!

First time pregnancy and have been lucky to have had smooth sailing so far! No sickness, relatively energised! I'm considering a week in Spain (2/3 hour flight) at 28weeks pregnant - shouldn't be too hot and am planning a week lounging on the beach.

From experience am I likely to be comfortable at 28/29 weeks to enjoy the heat / walking / flying?

Thanks :) (currently 17weeks)

You’ll need a fit to fly letter, but I would do it. Might be the last chance for a holiday just the two of you for quite some time!

Just make sure you have good travel insurance from the moment you book.

Thanks @ReggaetonLente that's my thought process - trying to have a bit of us time before the madness begins in July ;)

I'm doing it in 6 weeks! I'll be 28 weeks and going to Tunisia with dh and ds 9 months - the fit to fly letter has to be issued no more than 10 days before your flight though so bear that in mind.

Good tip Emma thank you :) enjoy Tunisia!

Update on this. My gp said he won't issue one because all it will say is I'm pregnant since pregnancy is not an illness of course I'm fit to fly... 🙄

I'm going to be in the phone to Thomas cook a lot I think..,

I flew 30w q few weeks ago. No letter needed ft to fly , flew with easyjet. Took my maternity papars and also an insurance + European health card.
Enjoy !

I went to the South of France around then. I can't say a couple of hours in a Ryanair seat was enjoyable but it was fine. I didn't need a letter as my return flight was at 27+6 but I had my notes with my dates in case of queries.

Thanks for the updates and extra info - this cold snap has made me more determined!

I did a four hour flight at 30 weeks (outbound) and 31 weeks (return). It was fine. My back was a little sore by the end of the flight but otherwise no issues.

Re the doctors note, no one glanced at it on the way out (UK) but they wanted to see if on the way back and then had to speak with their manager to confirm that it was acceptable. Don’t risk flying without one. My doctor charged £20 for it, and it just confirmed how many weeks pregnant I was, what my due date was, that my pregnancy was uncomplicated and that I was fit to fly. If your doctor has said he won’t issue one, i’d speak to reception and see if that’s him being an arse or is surgery policy. Another doctor in the surgery might do it for you.

Im flying at 30 weeks and the letter is necessary for the airline and also the travel insurance to be activated so its not always just a case of the airline not batting an eyelid. Just a heads up in case you have travel insurance.

paperplant · 30/03/2018 20:59

I think whether or not you can fly and whether or not you need a doctor;s note depends on the airline - checked out BA and Easyjet policies the other day, and they had difference guidelines on a) up to which week it's OK to fly (1 week difference) and b) when you need a doctor's note (BA from week X, Easyjet not at all, I think) -- anyway definitely confirm with your airline/travel agent.
At 28 weeks you should be able to fly, enjoy!

I did Italy at 27/28 weeks with my last pregnancy. Mine was really straight forward like yours and the holiday was fab. Really nice to get that time. I wasn't asked for a fit to fly letter on the way there but was on the way back when I was really pleased I'd got it as they were quite funny about it!
