Hi I just found out I'm pregnant and wondering which vitamins I should buy?

The only ones recommended are folic acid and vitamin d

Multivitamins in pill form are crap, the body doesn’t absorb most of the stuff.
Take folic acid, vitamin D and eat a wide range of fruits and vegetables.

The midwife will give you some.

dancingunicorns123 · 14/12/2017 20:09

I mean what brand... they don't give me any

The midwife will give you some? Where does this happen? Didn't when I was pregnant and that was before the NHS cuts really started to bite.

OP, there are several well known brands. I got Seven Seas which seemed to have all the recommended things and were easy to take.

dementedpixie · 14/12/2017 20:14

Don't think it matters what brand

chiaseeddisapointmentagain · 14/12/2017 20:14

I'm in Bristol and the midwife gave me vitamins all through my pregnancy, DD is 12 weeks old.

@Fridgedooropen thank you!

Brand doesn't matter. Just get the amount right. Folic acid for the first 12 weeks and vitamin d the whole pregnancy.

Boots or Tesco do own brand vitamins. Exactly the same stuff.

Usernamegone · 14/12/2017 20:39

I didn’t get any vitamins from the Midwife (I think this is dependent on area) I joined boots baby club and got some free vit d and folic acid tablets on my advantage card. Before I got loads of free vitamins I took the seven seas ones as they were smaller and on offer in Tesco! Otherwise in all the bounty packs/Emma’s diary/Mothercare expectant parent event packs there was always free vitamins in there so I just took them!

In preferred the seven seas and boots tablets as they are smaller than pregnecare (which are massive) Also, I find the pregnecare liquid quite harsh on my stomach.

Please make sure that (along with vitamin D and folic acid) that you get omega 3 and iodine, both vital for the baby's brain
