Got a bonding scan a week on Wednesday. SOO excited. Can't wait to see splodge's face up close.

justbeme · 27/04/2007 19:42

Whats a bonding scan Typhoonsmum?

keiralou · 27/04/2007 21:43

Wow, you are all so busy writing on here and i feel like i haven't posted anything in ages. Saw my GP a few days ago - its almost impossibel to get an appt with a midwife. Everything ok but had to have a blood test as dd has a rash -possible viral, infection and GP is worried that it might pass something on to lo. You all sound so busy.., Can't believe some of you are writing birth plans already. Don't feel at all organised and still need to sort out dd's new bedroom so that she 's in it and settled before baby arrives.
One good thing - now only have 6 weeks left at work!!
Have a happy, warm weekend everyone!

typhoonsmum · 28/04/2007 09:43

A bonding scan is a scan that isn't medically necessary and purely as the mother wants one. It is done using a 3d scanner and you get pictures of the babies face very clearly. It focuses on certain areas as the baby is too big to fit on the screen completley. You can take a blank DVD and the sonographer will put the scan on to the DVD so you can see the baby moving on your tv at home.
Many companies do them and give you keyrings and the DVD including in the price. You should ideally be between 24+32 weeks. My cons won't do it till I am 29 weeks tho. Getting it done in work as a perk. (Don't get many being a nurse - apart from the best stocked medicine cabinet in the street)

Jamantha · 28/04/2007 12:35

Just been to an NCT nearly new sale Managed to aquire a pack of vests, a few cute baby-gro/stretch suits, hats, mittens and bootees, a couple of blankets, a big V-shaped cushion for me, a couple of toys and a baby gym. Seems like we got loads but grand total was £35, which we thought was pretty good as the new price of the baby gym was £45.

pulapula · 29/04/2007 10:53

I would definitely recommend NCT nearly new sales to everyone. We have bought most of DDs clothes from them!. We bought a baby bath for £1, a baby sleeping bag for £2 and a bouncy chair for £5 at the last one. Next one is in early July, after I've had LO so will be sending DH to that one.

Myfairone · 29/04/2007 18:49

Hello all,

Hope you are all having a great weekend. We have had a busy one and now I am starting to feel the strain!

I have a pain in the right hand side of my tummy button, feels like its being stretched from the inside. I can feel LO's feet kicking me in the groin so can only assume it is standing up and playing football!

The bonding scan sounds great Typhoonsmum. A girl I work with had one and it was sooo strange to see the LO's face. I hope you enjoy it.

I really must look into an NCT sale in my area. What is the best way find out? Is there a website? (stupid question...theres a website for everything!)

Take care all, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Cyee · 29/04/2007 21:30

Hi all,
My fairone, you can click here and use your postcode to find your local branch. Good luck. I just missed one in my area. Darn.
Hope everyone's had a great weekend. I have the Sunday blues...

berrysmum · 29/04/2007 21:56

Myfairone, I have that pain too! Does yours feel like a sort of a stinging? Mine is worse when I bend over too. Have been thinking that maybe I am just going to get the biggest ever stretch mark there.

Myfairone · 30/04/2007 10:39

Thank you Cyee, I will check it out now.

Berrysmum - Do you? Ive been a little worried about this pain as its kind of persistent. It feels like a bruise and sore to the touch. I cant work out if its on the inside of my tummy button or the muscles surrounding it. May call the midwife later if it hasnt gone away.

Hows everyone doing today? Beautiful day here in sunny London but too good to be in work....8 weeks and counting!

Hope everyone feels okay.

Trimum2 · 30/04/2007 10:40

Does anyone find being on their feet for any length of time tough?

I don't remember feeling like this first time around. But I know that my legs are feeling the effects much more (big veins sticking out / loads of thread veins appearing).

I was at a wedding at the weekend and I had to keep looking for a chair at the reception. Plus, if I don't get offered a seat on the tube in the mornings the journey is really tough.

I am only 31 weeks.. so still another 2 months to go, but I feel whacked.

Myfairone · 30/04/2007 11:04

Trimum - Yes to all that you just said! If I stand for more than a short while I start to move from foot to foot and then get really uncomfortable!

I have a wedding in a few weeks and I'm dreading it! I need to sit down constantly!

How are you finding the tubes? Did you get one of London Transports badges with 'Baby on board'? I haven't had much success with mine!

Trimum2 · 30/04/2007 11:16

I didn't get one of those badges. They are a great idea though. I was sorry I didn't have one a couple of months ago when I just looked a bit fat rather than pregnant!

But now its screamingly obvious. Its a bit hit and miss to the be honest. Some days are great and people get up.

Quite often its ladies actually. Not sure if its because they understand that horrible feeling and why pregnant people need seats. If I have to do the train and the tube and never get to sit down I am virtually in tears by the end of the journey. A couple of days like that in a row and I start feeling I am not going to make it another 4 weeks of commuting.

I had intended to work up to 36 weeks, but am now thinking that I should quit a bit earlier.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 30/04/2007 12:01

Trimum, the 3 days a week I work, I am on my feet for 10 hours. I'm used to it, but have always worn those surgical stockings. Ask you midwife if you could get a prescription for a couple of pairs. You can get below knee as well as thigh length (NICE) and if you get black rather than sand/honey/natural (REALLY NICE avoid like plague) they just look like opaque tights. Activa brand are lovely and soft, but Scholl Ultima do a hold up thigh length that is really good too. You have to be measured for them (around ankle, calf, foot length and if you get thigh length then your thigh too) You can off course buy them but they aint cheap, and the scholl flight socks can be bought over the counter and go off foot size, so aren't as accurate or supportive. Oh and when you are measured, you need to make sure you aren't already swollen!

Yawn. Sorry about that folks.

catstar · 30/04/2007 12:09

Trimum & Myfairone - I'm finding the commuting a bit hit and miss too. I have to get train and tube, both quite short journeys thankfully so I haven't struggled too much. I just find it interesting (I'm sure I'll find it frustrating in the next few weeks) how no-one can see that I'm pregnant! I've only had a seat offered once - by a lady - and so far haven't felt the need to ask, but whatever happened to good manners eh???

On the subject of pains, this morning I've been getting a strange feeling - not painful at all - of being "clawed" on the inside. Every now and then it feels like something scraping down my side - LO is already growing her nails perhaps .

DH and I went to an open day at a local nursery on Saturday - and ended up registering LO for a place in February! DH thought it was a bit Stepford Wives, but much miles better than another one we looked at where the staff kept popping out for fag breaks!!!

A quick question that I think had been touched on before, but I can't find the old threads. For a summer baby starting off sleeping at night in a moses basket, i'm assuming you don't use one of those grobag things because they're too long to fit in the basket. Would you dress LO in just one of those vests with short sleeves and poppers and then a cellular blanket over the top, or a babygro type thing with long sleeves and feet etc but no blanket? Can't seem to work out what the best thing is. I've got a room thermometer and would obviously change combinations according to the room temperature.

30 weeks today and only 5 weeks left at work! I also have a wedding in a couple of weeks which I understand is going to be a very posh affair. I bought a lovely dress from ebay (which I hope fits!!). If it's a civil ceremony, would you plan to wear a hat??

Hope everyone's ejoying the weather - even if it is through filthy windows in the City like me!!!

Trimum2 · 30/04/2007 12:10

Jennster. I am in awe - big respect. I will quit moaning about my tube journey if you are on your feet 10 hrs a day!

Thanks for the info on the tights, sounds like they should help.

Trimum - Even wearing the badge (which is rather embarrassing) i have not been offered a seat!!! I am obviously pregnant too and it just narks me that people put their heads deeper into their papers to avoid eye contact!
I'm lucky on my top train because I travel with Dh and he always grabs a seat for me and is there to growl at those that go for it!

Catstar - Excellent news on securing a nursery place. How very prepared of you!
I have no answer to the question of what is needed at night but will be interested to see the replies. KInd of confused about that myself.
Maybe your little one is trying out its new nails!
Mine just feels like its headbutting my tummy button!

Checked out the NCT and theres one in May that I could get to! Excellent news!

Firststar - Wish I could give up early! I have decided on 22nd June and really cannot afford to leave any earlier

Big hugs to all!

JennsterSlugSlayer · 30/04/2007 14:07

Ooo but I do get to perch on a stool occasionally.... Don't finish work 'til 15th June, but only 17 days of actually working Yay! Have my Glucose Tolerance Test and Anti D on Wednesday.

Catstar, found those thermometers (you get with a grobag) pants. I'm cold nearly all the time so maybe it's just me, but found dd woke up freezing cold in the winter going by the suggestion on the thermometer for what they should be wearing. Use your common sense... Not helpful I know but you WILL know what to do. This summer when REALLY hot dd was just in a short sleeved vest.

22nd June is not too far away Myfairone - at least I hope not as thats when I'm planning on stopping work too! Although I'm starting to get knackered and lots of little aches and pains so am tempted to stop even earlier. I'll need to decide soon to let work know.

Wow, I dont think I could be on my feet for 10hrs at a time. I was looking after DS (almost 3) all weekend on my own as DH working and I was knackered by sunday eve! He's just on the go constantly and I struggled to keep up

I'm thinking about a 3D scan as well Typhoonsmum - I'm going to ask my midwife if there are any recommendations for places where i am (Edinburgh) as I can only find 2 companies up here that do them. I'm sure there must be others. The only problem is that I'm starting to think about all the bits and pieces I want to get for this LO and the £100 I'd spend on the scan could probably go to better use

I'm on the look out for an NCT sale too - will check that web-site - THANKS!!!

Chooster · 30/04/2007 14:33

Wow Kyte thats such an old-fashioned attitude from your diocese? At least you are hopefully winning on that one... The countdown is really on for you now - not many working days left!

Firststar - I am sure the time will fly. I have plenty of surfing to do whilst still here!
I have started to set myself projects of baby things to research!

Chooster - Its not so much the work thats bothering me, its the journey. Realistically, I do want to try and hang on until 22nd JUne. We shall see! I am sure we will all be fine.

I too would love another scan but the money could be better spent as I still have tons to buy! My guess is we all think about having one!

Kyte - You poor thing! What a very old fashioned attitude. Stick to your original plans and hopefully they will come around to your way of thinking! Good luck with it.

Hope you all have a great evening.
