I'd love to be at home and not working but my maternity leave doesn't start for 2 more weeks and i am 35+1 I can't leave any earlier as we are only just arranging cover for me. Grrrrr!

weddingcake · 01/06/2007 13:34

Seems like we're all starting to have various worries about our LO's - can I add mine for the day?

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a reduction in movement. I'm sure I'm not getting nearly as much as I was and although I know he'll be running out of room in there it's hard to know when to worry especially with this pre eclampsia and now my urine infection which for the record is driving me insane!

Although I've seen lots of medics lately it's all been about my blood pressure etc. rather than how things are generally. Probably my fault for not being more assertive but they always seem so busy and stressed out.

Sorry to hear about everyone who's having a hard time and hope you've all got lots of lovely people around you. I know how much I appreciate the support on this board but there's nothing quite like a RL hug or a friend who can do something practical to help out!

Have a nice weekend!

Take Care xx

Ps Divaskychick - I also hit the 30lb mark this morning and I was a good stone overweight to start with so am dreading shifting it all afterwards. I'm just over the bridge from you so if come about September you see some crazed woman huffing and puffing her way round laps of Bishop's park that'll be me...or else I'll be the one eating cake in a nice coffee shop on Putney High Street while still wearing her maternity clothes- suspect I know which scenario is more likely!

Chooster · 01/06/2007 13:53

Good on you myfairone!!! Those sorts of comments could have caused an angry explosion in the best of people. I guess he's been thinking about these things and probably has an idea what its going to be like, which will be assuming the worst. I reckon he'll get a nice surprise! When we went to ours for DS, DH also said to me "do I have to talk to people" whats that about eh? Anyway, he used to enjoy them in the end, once he realised everyone was just normal .

Have missed loads as haven't been on here for a while. So sorry you are having all these troubles JAM - I really really hope your Dad is on the mend and you get to vent your concerns to your mum when its appropriate. I can understand you not wanting to involve your DH with the details. Hope it all gets better.

Good to hear everyone getting excited - hi to all the newcomers!!! Wow, next month eh!!! I just can't wait to leave work - only 3 weeks left for me and I'm counting. Here all is well, except for protein in my urine which I've been told can either be a urine infection or mild pre-eclampsia. Hope its the first one, I think it must be as I dont have high blood pressure???!? Mmm, will find out next week.

I'll try to keep up a bit more from now on!

Chooster · 01/06/2007 13:58

CATZ - It does seem strange that you got told off for still working, like you say, you're probably doing less than if you were at home.

Can you tell I'm having a lazy day at work today?

My DH was also a bit childish about the parentcraft classes, however after the first one he was sold. No talking to the other people was required (he asked as well - what IS that about?!) and he found them really useful, as did I, mainly because he realised not everyone has his mum's 55 minute labours

He's now not so het up about the NCT ones. Hope your DHs pull themselves together.

Sorry to hear about the protein Chooster. Hope it's nothing major.

Hello everyone! I haven't posted very much but I do read the thread often and I just wanted to say good luck to all of you who are entering the home stretch.

I certainly relate to many of the same concerns as everyone. I'm 35 weeks - will be working until a week before my due date (for various reasons which are no longer as important as I thought they were a few months ago). I too am worried about aches and pains, breastfeeding, the nursery isn't anywhere close to being done, parenting classes in two weeks....sigh.

Is this when you are supposed to start feeling like a harrassed and inadequate parent?

DivaSkyChick · 01/06/2007 17:28

HAH Weddingcake, I've been trying to make it 'round Bishops Park myself for a little exercise, thank god for the public toilets there. I've also been having lunch a lot lately at the Dukes Head, right on the Thames in Putney. I'm always surrounded by pregnant women and new mommies!

Does anyone fancy a meet up in Putney or Fulham? There are a few of us in the area. Be fun to have some RL friends to share all this fun with.

My NCT antenatal classes will be in Fulham and start June 12. Anyone here doing that class?

Mandy

weddingcake · 01/06/2007 19:02

Divaskychick - Would love to meet up with you and anyone else in the area who fancies it but for me it'll have to be once the babies are actually here as I've got mild pre eclampsia so am pretty much under house arrest in an attempt to avoid being admitted to hospital for the rest of my pregnancy.

After that though it would be great to meet some local mums as I've had to cancel my NCT classes for the same reason and have visions of my poor baby being a complete 'billy no mates' and it all being my fault.

As for the Duke's head, it's actually my local and since they refurbished (which almost to the day coincided with me getting pregnant!)they've got a new cocktail menu in their basement bar which I've promised myself I will drink my way through as a celebration once this baby is safely out and off the boob...anyone who wants to join me feel free!

It will probably have to be in stages though as my alcohol tolerance was never that great so I dread to think what it'll be like after months of near abstinence - I guess it'll be like being 15 again but a lot less socially acceptable and I bet I still have to hide my hangover from my Mum's disapproving glare!

Take Care and hope everyone has a lovely peaceful weekend.

Tutter · 01/06/2007 19:04

just wanted to reassure those of you who have had concerns about fundal measurements - they are really rather hit and miss

i was referred because my mw measured me as 39 weeks at 29 weeks (). a week later th registrar at hospital made me only 33 weeks and the scan showed a slightly-big (but nothing to worry about) baby boy

Beyonceen · 01/06/2007 21:42

Thanks tutter. Glad you had a similar experience with height thingumy and everything was ok. I am huge though. Who knows it's number 3 after all.
Movement this week has totally slowed down for me too. I think that's ok as LO is running out of space. Anyone else around 32 weeks and breech and not worrying about it yet???
x

As I'm only a trainee BF counsellor I'll help as much as I can but I'm not supposed to give advice (as I'm not insured until I'm qualified) and am only a quarter way through my course. So anything I say is based on my own experience and is not advice - this is my disclaimer!

Cyee - sounds like you might have an inverted nipple? It doesn't always have to be a problem as baby shoudl take a big mouthful of breast, not just the nipple, and should draw your nipple out with the suction. It's amazing how wide they need to open their mouths. There are people who would say try and use a nipple shield and swear by it (you can buy them at boots) - and others who say you should never use a nipple shield as the baby will become addicted to it and may reduce your milk supply. A breast pump can also help draw your nipple out - or you can if it just doesn't work out successfully feed from one breast only.
Here's what babycentre say

Caroline 1852 - completely agree, I strugggled for 6 weeks before cracking it, feeling guilty every day for not managing properly to do the one thing that I thought I could do for DS. Wasn't bothered about my c-section at all but did care about BF (don't know why, just the way my weird hormones were working at the time). I had loads of help and support too - it just took me forever to get it - and get the thrush seen to.

I learnt something useful (well I thought it was useful!) this week - the best indicator of how much milk your bub is getting is number of wet/pooey nappies. You should get 5+ a day. Can be as many as 10 or more (aargh!). So buy yourself some nice soap and handcream as your hands will be sooo dry from non-stop washing.

Please do ask me questions if you like - you're helping me to learn stuff!

Wonder how auntymandy is we havent heard from her in a while.. only a couple of days then she can be classed as term!!

typhoonsmum · 02/06/2007 13:53

HIYA I@M BACK

That wasn't a bad holiday at all. I needed the time away. MIL was lovely and no arguments at all. Wasn't disturbed in the morning by DD. MIL kept her entertained till me and DP woke up and then she kept taking her to visit her relatives giving me and DP time alone together which is something we haven't done in a very long time.
DP and I went fishing by the breakwater (not something I'm into but it was peaceful and the sun was shining) Was sat sunbathing in the car and have burnt my legs. I didn't realise they were burnt till we were all sitting on the beach in the afternoon and I had marks of my shoes burnt onto my feet.
Anyway I'm all refreshed and recommend Holy head to anyone.

weddingcake · 02/06/2007 14:16

So pleased your holiday went well Typhoonsmum but sorry to hear about your sunburn.

I have a quick question for all those who've done this before...

When should I expect my tummy button to pop out and when does it go in again? It's so stupid bit it's something I'm irrationally squeamish about so i just want to be prepared.

Hope everyone's enjoying the sunshine!

hey beyonceen, still here so no early arrival for me. Seems they are 'pre-labour' pains, all gearing up for the big day! I had them again today and have noticed they are worse when I've been sitting down for a while. Still - there are upsides, just got out of seeing the in laws for a walk as wasn't up to it ! Seeing the ob/gyn on wed again ( he was away this week so it will have been two weeks). Foolishly decided to try and measure myself and I get 40cms ! That was a mistake. Still, DS was 9lbs so this one was never going to be small.
Gained 4lbs this week despite reduced appetite and swimming alot so that takes my total to 35lbs! Still, gained 44lbs with DS and lost it all within 4 months.
Nice to have the sunshine back but here's hoping it doesn't get too hot for us all in the last few weeks. I have birth to DS on the hottest day of the year in 2005 - it was 22c at night!
Cant believe there are 81 of us. Must have been something in the water back in october !

It is the most gorgeous day and have spent it mostly outside (I love eating outdoors), guiltily watched DP doing some serious weeding and patio cleaning (poor chap was really sweating, whilst I reclined in the shade reading the sat Times). I did a couple of hours gardening yesterday but today could not summon any energy, it is very frustrating. Tunmmy really tightening at times, and quite painful to the point where I wonder if it is possible LO can stay in there another 6 weeks or so!
