Jennster - Just don't make any rash decisions about your hair. If you are really sure then go for it!

When people ask how long I have left I tend to just say it's due in July. Before I got pregnant I never understood the whole 'pregnant for 10 months, 40 week thing!'

Jendos - I think its just a gravity thing (as long as your BP is okay). I have noticed that when its warmer my rings get tighter and so do my shoes!

Talking of hair, has anyone else noticed that their hair is thicker? When i comb my conditioner through I tend to lose no hair at all now (and my hair is very long!) But have been a little freaked out by people telling me that your hair can fall out when you have had the baby? is this true? something to worry about?

Not notived much difference with my hair , but it was really thick to start with. but my skin has improved. I used to have to rely on Clinique clarifying lotion 2 times a day EVERY day to stop me flaking all over the place, but now only need it a couple of times a week.

jendos · 22/05/2007 16:21

Thanks for the advice - I think I'll start with the extra pillow on my lap. If I can find any more in the house that aren't already on the bed...

typhoonsmum · 22/05/2007 20:14

I've looked into going off sick b4 mat leave. They can only force you to go on Mat leave if the sickness is pregnancy related. If you suddenly got "food poisoning" for example then i don't think they can force leave for an upset tummy.
This is my plan anyway.

Have managed to work up 36 hours time owing which I plan to take back at a day a week till I leave which would make 3 day weeks. Today in work there was too many staff so as I had the time owing I was allowed to go home. I was going to refuse but I needed to start getting ready for the holiday from hell. So the extra day off was helpful. In my last week I think I'll get a stomach upset. I can feel it coming on now

twoplusone · 22/05/2007 20:16

Just had the hopspital tour and it has scared the living crap out of me.. all the memories of how much it hurt have come flooding back!!!!!! (sorry for those about to have there first !! donrt meant to alarm or upset anyne!)

Cyee · 22/05/2007 21:25

Hi all,

Jennster - good luck with the hair cut. I always end up growing then chopping too.

Agree with everyone re: being careful your employer doesn't start your leave if you're sick. It's amazing how much can be tenuously linked to pregnancy. But tbh not many comps know they can do that.

LOL at the asda vision - thanks for the tip!

Twoplusone, I've also just had the hosp tour and weirdly I am more worried about my DH being chucked out and me being alone (albeit with hosp people) than I am about the actual event itself. But then I am an innocent first timer!

Jendos, apparently the key thing is to keep very hydrated. I know it seems counter-intuitive, but keep drinking loads of water. Apparently this helps your body regulate the water retention aspect.Oh and rest with your legs up. This has really helped me this past few days even though I thought it would make it worse.

I am astounded how quick this thread moves, sorry if I've missed anyone's news!

Wow you lot have been chatty over the last couple of days, it's taken me ages to catch up.

I was going to come on and tell you all about my bargain £1 knickers from Asda, but it seems I'm not the first to find them. I'll have to get them out of the pack though and see if they're likely to fit me.

Has anyone found anywhere that sells cheapish button front nighties? I hate nighties, and usually wear PJ's but I guess in hospital nighties might be a bit more easily accessible. I don't want to spend a lot on something I'll never wear though. MIL has bought me 1 which makes me look like a Granny, but I'm not complaining as she also brought me round a big basket of lovely things to pamper myself with, a couple more babygrows, then took us to pay for and collect the pram/carrycot/carseat.

I had another MW appointment today, LO still curled up around my right side kicking me in the left side, but that's nothing to worry about and everything else is fine. I still haven't met my (not very) dedicated midwife, but I have met over half the team so there's a good chance I'll know whoever is on duty when I give birth.

Myfairone - On the topic of hair (I've been reading again) my hair was very thick to begin with, and within a couple of months of being pregnant it got ridiculous. Apparently hair goes through a growth stage, then is dormant for about 2-3 months then falls out. When your pregnant your body is so busy with growing new things that it doesn't do the falling out bit until after you've given birth. It tends to make up for it though and can come out by the handful.
I've noticed as well though that my hair never feels dirty. I've got long hair and used to have to wash it about every 3 days, but there's been times recently where I've gone a week without washing it because I've forgotten and it's not needed it (I'm not a grebby person really )

Typhoonsmum - I've been reading your thread about Raspberry Leaf Tea. I asked my MW about it today and she said not to drink it till week 34, but I'll be joining you then. Fingers crossed for a speedy labour.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 22/05/2007 22:17

Bilbio_ ditto with the hairwashing. My theory is because you've got more of it, the oils that are naturally produced are distributed through more hair, and so don't make it feel greasy as quickly.

bilblio · 22/05/2007 22:25

Ahh that makes sense. I like theories
If only it'd stay like this once the LO is born, I'd save a fortune in shampoo, and I suspect getting 45 minutes to myself to wash my hair might become more of a struggle

JennsterSlugSlayer · 23/05/2007 05:12

Get it all cut off!

JennsterSlugSlayer · 23/05/2007 05:14

And as for nighties, I can't stand them. What's wrong with your normal pjs but with a massive t-shirt. You don't expose yourself in the same way as button fronted nighties.

Morning all, what a nightmare 24 hours I have had! Dog decided to roll in fox's s**t at 10.30 last night so had to shower him. Couldn't get to sleep until 3am (read a book that made me cry!) and was awake again at 5.

After throwing disinfectant over the offending fox poop my dog decided to give it another go so he had yet another shower this morning!

Someone was taken ill on my train so it has taken me 2hours and 15 mins to get to work!

Can I go home please? Please can I?

Going to take my own advice and force myself to smile to trick my brain into thinking I am happy!

Bilblio - My LO is in the same position as yours...seems to like it on the side with the legs stretched out in the groin area! bless!

Hope everyone else has had a better morning than me!

Wow everyone is VERY chatty at the moment! Sorry if I haven't completely caught up....

Twoplusone- really glad baby is normal size! And hope the hospital visit hasn't scared you too much! Enjoy the swimming too!

Myfairone- surely after the past 24 hours things can only get better?! Keep that smile pasted on your face & just think of home time....!

Hope all you ladies with swelling hands are finding some relief...But promise to keep an eye on your BP or any other symptoms...not that I'm paranoid about PE or anything!!

Kyte- hope the kitchen excavations aren't too horrendous and that you are able to stay somewhere else while they do them.

Well all is good here, albeit slowly getting paranoid after being told to keep an eye on baby's movements and finding that he/she is still for ages (then has a mad half hour) and in the middle of the night find my paranoia is particularly bad!! Anyway have another scan/cons appt tomorrow so should alleviate worries for a bit I hope! And hopefully amniotic fluid is a bit more than last time, fingers crossed.

Does anyone else have a breech baby who is kicking really low down? I am convinced a foot is about to come through my cervix (sorry if TMI!)- it is most unpleasant!!

Hugs to you all & bumps too xxxxx

Jamantha · 23/05/2007 12:08

myfairone - lots of sympathy ehading your way. Makes my moan about getting up 3 times in the night and being exhausted today seem pathetic. Taking my Dad to the theatre tonight, to thank him for the decorating he's doing, so hope I can stay awake. It's a musical though, so should be noisy enough to keep my attention.

MMN - yes I promise to keep an eye on BP. Had a check yesterday and was fine and seeing MW next week.

Myfairone · 23/05/2007 12:09

Madmumnika - yes yes yes to the breech kicking very low...I know TMI but I said to DH last night that it feels like sex in reverse!!! I really thought a foot was coming out last night! sooooooo uncomfortable. Good luck with the scan, hope all is well. I totally agree about the early hour paranoia too. I was awake at 3 worrying that the baby is stuck on the right hand side of my tummy and cannot get out!

Firststar - Thanks for the smiles (Im trying!) I have primark and Asda on my list of 'things to do' at the weekend. I need some button front nighties/pj's and like you refuse to pay £35 for a pair!

madmumNika · 23/05/2007 12:17

Myfairone- sex in reverse is a very good description LOL!! But it is almost sore, not enjoyable in the slightest!!! DS was a good 'head down' baby whereas this LO seems to not want to budge from breech & I've decided this is v uncomfortable- rib flare AND kicks in places I'd rather they weren't! Ah well the joys of pregnancy!!

Myfairone · 23/05/2007 12:30

Madmumnika - Don't get me wrong, this is nowhere near as enjoyable as sex and it is really painful! It made me shout out last night!

I know this is going to sound bad but I'm glad I'm not the only one, its made me feel better! (sorry if that sounded mean)

Hi everyone, I've got a breech baby at 35 weeks, and I've got to go for a scan on Friday. They want to see whether it's too big to turn manually (gulp - will have to see a consultant for that in a fortnight, sound medieval) or they want to book a c-section. Feeling a bit deflated as DD was an easy pregnancy and easy birth, so this wasn't quite to plan!
Sympathies to you Madmum - yes, that high-up kicking is really uncomfortable. The midwife actually showed me bruising on my ribs when she gave an an extra scan on Monday. At first she thought the baby was engaged and head-down, but luckily she then twigged it wasn't. I've been taken off local care now and placed under the hospital instead. Doing lots of swimming and bottom-in-the-air movements to try to budge it!
Hope everyone else is doing OK in the sunshine! xx

Myfairone · 23/05/2007 18:56

Cakehead - Sorry to hear of your dissapointment re the C-section. I guess it still has time to turn.
I too have a breech that seems comfy where it is so I may be joining you!

Well my journey home turned into a disaster! (as did my journey this morning!) A lineside fire at London Bridge meant there were no trains on my line (or any other lines for that matter!) so had to take a different route home. Was so protective of my bump as I was pushed and shoved...

Stood on the tube and asked in a very loud voice if anyone had a seat to give to an 8month pregnant woman! I surprised myself!
A very nice gentleman gave me his seat and then I sat red faced for the entire journey!

Big hugs to all and their bumps
xx

Cakehead · 23/05/2007 19:23

Myfairone - I've just stopped commuting from London Bridge this week and saw it on the news - was so glad I missed that journey home. Have to say though, one night last week was coming home late from a dinner in Earl's Court at about 11 o'clock. The tube was packed and everyone was pretending they couldn't see me. This Aussie girl got on and asked whether I'd been offered a seat. I said I hadn't but not to worry. She then shouted to the whole carriage: 'Will one of you very polite people please get off your a* and give this woman a seat...' They really know how to get things done, the Australians. This South African chap sheepishly stood up for me. It's amazing how few people will though.
On the breech front, you're right, there is time to turn. I remember DD turning late, but they didn't worry so much that time. Not sure why they're doing all this extra prep this time.

JennsterSlugSlayer · 23/05/2007 19:40

Well after only taking 30 minutes to park at hospital I thought I was on to a good thing and a quick in and out. 2 hours after my appointment was due, I eventually got seen. Luckily everything was fine, and they couldn't understand why I had been referred. The midwife was very encouraging about my homebirth plans. She said there weren't enough. Baby is transverse, but she didn't seem particularly concerned about it. Am only 31+3 though.

Think I was about 25 odd weeks last pregnancy, when I was hammering nails into the hardboard underlay thingy for the bathroom floor after ripping out the scummy carpet. Thought it would be horrendous to take up, but the workmen who fitted the new bathroom just lifted it with no effort at all. Oh well.
