Someone told me that you get cold feet in labour so to take socks. I had DD in June 03 - one of hotest days on record (think it got to 39 C) and they still had heating on in the labour ward - but kept socks on until the end (no cold feet!). Had nothing else on at all - DH kept trying to cover up bottom half whenever anyone came in but I just through the sheet away. In the end the MW went and got a fan to aim onto the bottom half! I spent ages picking out a lovely night shirt to wear - don't think I'll spend so long choosing this time!

Am stuck at home with chicken pox again! DS spots started to come this morning - he's really bored with just me and I keep thinking of all the work I've got to do (only 9 weeks left!!!!)

tokentotty · 10/05/2007 15:05

I'm getting cold feet now, let alone when it gets to delivering....

Yes - the 'oh gosh your enormous' is especially unflattering, and when it comes from dh! God love em!

Another one (usually from men at work) is 'look at that stomach you're getting, took me years of drinking and eating to get a stomach like that!' Hilarious.

Hersetta, I have some clothes that make bump look bigger, if you have the same, try wearing them on the tube see if any miserable old sod will notice you're pregnant and give up their seat for you!

Anyone else still sleeping on their front? I have a noticable bump but somehow manage to still sleep on my front. It is not uncomfortable for me in any way, but am concerned that I may be squashing the baby?

MrsBadger · 10/05/2007 15:34

'You don't have much of a bump - are you sure there's nothing wrong?'

You just can't win.

Have given up trying to sleep on my front - it makes the Cub kick for Britain - but am having great success with an economy version of those expensive 'body pillows', made by rolling the single duvet off the spare bed into a sausage...

Hersetta · 10/05/2007 16:00

Problem is the central line has been really busy in the morning lately that I've just managed to squeeze myself on so am trapped by the doors so no-one to see my small bump. Evening this mornings effort of standing right infront of people rubbing by bump had no effect.

Annie75 · 10/05/2007 16:02

Love the Babies with Beards site Maybe they're all the offspring of the books in the Ina May book (full of men with BIG beards 70s-stylie)...

Next and Blooming Marvellous pjs look v pretty. Current dilemma is being sick of only having one pair of maternity jeans and one pair of linen trousers to wear but can't quite be bothered to spend the money on any more clothes when I've only three months to go (to the day) Actually, I might try the NCT sale in my area at the weekend - wonder if they'll have maternity clothes for sale too?

Re what to wear during labour, I think I'll try the tankini thing too and maybe get one of those mini-sarong things made in swimsuit material. God, don't I sound like a prude?!

Oh, and Mrs B - I've the same comments about not showing from people (this after being made paranoid by midwife that I was going to have a small baby). My consultant said that I didn't have a big bump because I had good stomach muscles (along with my build and it being my first baby - but who cares about those bits). So I now smugly trot this out to everyone that feels they've a right to accuse me of having a small bump! I'd suggest you do the same

MrsBadger · 10/05/2007 16:05

Annie - get on Ebay! You can always sell them afterwards.

at only 3 months left though...

Babylovesmuffins · 10/05/2007 16:12

Freaky bearded babies TT!! Hope mine is beard-free...

For months at work I had the "are you sure you're eating enough? You don't have much of a bump" and now I'm getting the "look at the size of that bump"

People who don't have kids are the worst for handing out advice - do you know that one colleague actually scolded me for drinking skimmed milk with my cereal and said I should be taking full-fat milk, as the baby needed to put on weight (this was when I was about 15/16 weeks...)

And you should see their faces when I go along to the pub after work on a Friday night!! It's like I really shouldn't be there (drinking my lime & soda)....groan....

tokentotty · 10/05/2007 16:13

Holy Cr*p Annie - you're right. Three months today indeed, hadn't even noticed

Babylovesmuffins · 10/05/2007 16:19

Annie - I'm having major major clothes dilemmas atm as well. I found Dorothy Perkins adjustable elasticated jeans really good for the first few months and I bought 2 pairs but now they're getting a bit small... like all my trousers atm they're too tight when I'm sitting and start to ride down my backside when I'm walking around.

I've still got a couple of things which are too big - like my maternity suit trousers from Next which I jumped into yesterday and tied up tightly with a belt from another pair of trousers (which are now too small) and "secured" with a number of safety pins... only for them to slide down my hips on the walk to the bus (and there's nothing more glamourous than hoisting your trews up whilst walking along a main road )

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 10/05/2007 16:26

at 3 months!!!!!!!!! - my midwife toldme yesterday that i had a lovley bump, which is great as i put on 5 stone with ds so its nice top have a bump!!

with regards to clothes i have been to next - fab pair of slouch jeans that are also thin for the summer and have ebaying like mad for the last couple of days!

Ludiloops · 10/05/2007 16:58

I also was not very big for a long while and used to get the 'your not very big' comments from people and used to proudly say that my stomach muscles were strong. However, they seem to have somewhat let me down as now I get the 'look at the size of you' comments!

Cant believe someone would have the cheek to comment on your choice of milk! As if the fat content between the 2 milks is that significant! Some people!

Today I am wearing my linen trousers (our office is a greenhouse) held up with a spare shoe string I found lying around! Would never dream of doing anything like that before I was pregnant, but now I actually pride myself on what a good idea it was!

katybird · 10/05/2007 17:55

All those pyjama links are great, good work! The ones in P&B were from Amoralia .

I hadn't really thought about what to wear during labour but like the tankini idea. I'm sort of assuming I won't care at that point about flashing everyone my bits.

Kiteflying - glad you've got a bump now! Mine emerged about three weeks ago and it seems like it's growing by the hour. No one at work has commented except the canteen ladies, who keep feeding me extra .

I've guilted a few people into giving me a tube seat by stroking my belly furiously and looking pained - has anyone else noticed a trend in who gives up their seat? So far the middle-aged women have stared quite openly at the bump but it's only men who'll get up for me.

Has anyone found any decent maternity city shorts or cropped jeans? I've got normal low-riding cropped jeans but they fall off me now they won't go round my bump. My H&M black trousers with bump band still fit really well but they'll be too hot for summer.

TT - love the bearded babies!

bananabump · 10/05/2007 19:22

I'm getting to the point where I only have two feasible trouser choices: black and smart, or grey tracky bottoms. Eek! I think I may HAVE to buy one or two more pairs before long. I'm assuming I will get bigger...

I'm wearing a denim skirt today that I could barely squeeze on, but dp came home and said "you look very pregnant in that!!" so I'm keeping it on by hook or by crook. Who cares if I can't get back off the sofa?

lizziemun · 10/05/2007 20:26

I know this sound odd,but that's me. If you are a size 16 or above (eg me) have you tried Evans i got some linen cropped trousers with a tie waist for £15.

mum2george · 11/05/2007 09:18

Morning everyone, just been catching up on some of your posts and glad to see that you all seem to be doing so well!

We are off to the local NCT coffee morning soon, they have got Cheshire Baby Massage coming and doing a demo so quite excited about that.

Its less than 3 months for me as I'm due on the 1st Aug so I had better pay attention this morning!

Does anybody else have a feeling about when their baby will arrive? I was convinced with DS that he would be a little bit early and he was born at 38+1. This time I'm paranoid about have a premie baby, but not sure if its just that bl**dy panorama programme thats made me paranoid. Suppose I'll just have to wait and see.

Babylovesmuffins · 11/05/2007 11:16

Hi Mum2george. This is my 1st pg so I don't really have any inkling whether baby will come early or late!!

However... I read an article in a magazine (think it was P&B) that a survey had been conducted amongst mothers, and that on average most babies are born 147 days (or 21 weeks) after you first feel them kicking!! I felt my first kick at about 17.5 weeks, so that would put the birth date back to 10 August (my EDD is 22nd August!!)

Maybe it's just wishful thinking

pinkrangerstartstowaddle · 11/05/2007 11:52

Good Morning everyone

I have no idea when this babe will arrive, i said at 38 weeks that i didnt mind if i went over with ds by 40+1 i was going out of my head! He didnt arrive until 42+1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im really hoping that this one comes on time as a) want a home birth so dont want to be started of and b) ds start his first day at school 14 days after my due date - and i am not missing that!!!!!

MrsBadger · 11/05/2007 11:59

Initially I was fairly convinced it'd be late (borne out by the 'time from first kick' thing, which'd put me at bang on 41), but the high risk of preeclampsia that accompanies my clotting thing means I won't be surprised if I end up having to be induced early...

we shall see!

bananabump · 11/05/2007 12:18

Well, I told my consultant I'd felt him kick (admittedly incredibly faintly) at bang on 17 weeks, and he said "No you didn't. You couldn't have" So from that 147 days later thing I'm due at 38 weeks, on 21st July! wooo!

I'm not holding out much hope though since mil says my dp was overdue by 6 weeks (is that possible? And if it is, was it allowed in 1977??? These days they induce you after 12 days overdue don't they?)

Oh, and apparently he was massive, and broke her breastbone. I'm taking it with a pinch of salt for my own sanity.

Babylovesmuffins · 11/05/2007 12:28

I guess they'll all come when they're ready, no matter what consultants and MIL's say!!

My MIL told me I'd definitely be overdue - I've no idea why she said that - there was no reason for it whatsoever, she just decided that's what was going to happen!! I'm now determined for LO to come early just to show her

Hersetta · 11/05/2007 13:50

Am on servere countdown now. Leaving the office at 4.30 and going stright to Heathrow for our 9.30 flight. Just wanted to say tatty bye to all you lovely ladies and I'll check in again when we return on May 29th.

TT - have a great time in Vegas. try not to do too much and listen to your body. It'll tell you when you need to rest so don't ignore it!! OOh - I almost sound like a Mum !!

tokentotty · 11/05/2007 14:25

Aww thanks Mummy H !! Nice to be looked out for sometimes. I got "Well I just can't wait 'til you're home and wish that you weren't going" from MIL I'll take it as easy as possible I promise, not that it'll be comparable with your wonderfully relaxing holiday I'm sure
How are all else today ??
