Yup boxes, they do an x for the fundal height (tape measure) and if you have a growth scan they draw you a pretty circle instead! The lady who did the scan said chances are I'll continue to measure small by the tape measure method and the only reason I'll need another scan is if the tape measurements stay the same/don't increase. Hope that helps!

And @Bobbiepin yes! Only in the last week or so but like a white hot kind of pain just under my ribs, which I assume is Bubbabean getting in the way of ribs??

GimbleInTheWabe · 08/08/2017 22:30

@boxesoffrogs glad you finally got your appointment! Seems like other people had some great words to the wise for you. Must admit that the midwives using a tape measure doesn't seem like the most scientific way to make sure everything is as it should be so don't worry yourself too much!

@Bobbiepin I had weird rib pain too last week (would've been 31weeks) and it felt like them widening to me. Felt lots of foot-in-rib type kicks too.

I have a fun new night time symptom which is that if I lay on my left side I feel nauseous for some reason. I've had minimal nausea and no vomiting in my pregnancy so why I'm getting it now, specifically if I lay on my left side, I have no idea Hmm seem to be okay on my back though!

PingusMistress · 08/08/2017 23:46

@boxesoffrogs a scan will be way more accurate, my midwife won't even bother measuring my bump because I'm having growth scans. Hopefully it gives you some reassurance and you can see your little one again, which is always lovely! I'm not sure what centiles the lines are on your plot as my plot only has three (tenth, 50th and 90th) but mine is just above the tenth centile and as long as he doesn't go under they say they aren't worried.

I'm on holiday in wales this week and the raincoat that fitted me three days ago (and all through my last pregnancy) now won't do up over my bump. Too many fish and chips maybe! I'll have to tuck a bin bag into my t-shirt like a bib if I want to stay dry!

KitKatSplat · 09/08/2017 19:06

@PingusMistress Aaaaah, I could murder some fish and chips. I think I won't know what satisfied feels like, hunger wise, until after the baby is born now. Food seems to have 25% of the effect it used to have on me feeling full. I've already had two extra Danish pastries today and a bowl of yoghurt and banana and I am STILL bloody hungry. Thank god there's no takeaways near where I live.

greentreeseverywhere · 09/08/2017 19:17

my best friend had her baby today 7 weeks early! so instead of us having a 2 week gap (going by edd) well now have nearly 2month gap! (I'm sure I'l go over as well the baby so lazy!!) it's made me all a bit emotional and in a funny mood. but all's good with both of them which is the main thing

TheLegendOfBeans · 09/08/2017 19:19

oh my god greentrees is the baby ok?!

greentreeseverywhere · 09/08/2017 20:06

she seems fine! shel be in special care for a bit but so far all signs are pointing to her being healthy!! really shocked me when she txt me!!

Bobbiepin · 09/08/2017 20:12

Oh @greentrees I hope baby is ok!

@mummabubs I get a white hot pain on the left side, i figured that was stretching like @gimble said. This is completely different, almost like the feeling you get when you step on something wearing slippers. No pain but I can feel something stuck there. Its really bizarre. Had some pressure pushing down earlier so I think she's head down at the moment.

boxesoffrogs · 10/08/2017 21:24

Thanks for all the advice re the dating scan. Guess I will just have to wait (with with fingers crossed) and see.

greentrees glad to hear that your friend and her baby are doing as well as they can be under the circumstances!!! What a shock! And now I am thinking about how unorganised I am, should this one decide to make an early appearance... fingers crossed that they continue to flourish.

Anyone got any advice on what to do when poorly? Been bedridden for the last two days with headache, sore throat, streaming nose and the most fun part, a body shaking rattling cough that makes my eyes water, my chest hurt and has triggered my asthma. I don't do things by bloody halves do I?

What can I take/do to try and help? Apparently lemsip and any kind of decongestant is off the cards... have tried Vicks vapour rub, and lockets, with a cough syrup that doesn't contain any 'forbidden' stuff, and so far it has done jack all. I would actually commit crimes to be able to take some night nurse right now, so if all else fails I can at least get some sleep. Baby is being quite quiet, pretty sure she is fed up of being squished every 2 minutes time I cough.

Sorry for drama queen post, but I am getting desperate. Google obvious has convinced me that I now have pneumonia... or at least a chest infection. Already cancelled flight that was yest as being on a plane like this would have been a horrible experience, not just for me, but the others around me. Rebooked to go on sat, but if this doesn't clear up then I can't see the holiday happened Sad any advice?

doomkittycleo · 10/08/2017 21:35

@boxes, I don't think there's much more you can do except paracetamol Vicks and sleep.

You could do the whole Vicks in a bowl of hot water with a towel over your head and inhale it.

I don't think there's many cough syrups you can safely take in pregnancy, but you could ask the pharmacist.

Cineraria · 10/08/2017 22:31

Glad to hear your friend's baby is doing ok, Greentrees. Hope your friend is also doing ok.

Boxes, that's such a shame about your chest infection delaying your holiday. I hope you do manage to get away. When I get a bad chest (it's a family trait I get from my mum), I make up batch of spicy cough mixture and it usually seems to help but is a bit of an effort when you're not well (unless Mr Boxes is handy in the kitchen). I posted it previously on a thread about unusual blender recipes and it was included on the page they made of some of them here: www.mumsnet.com/family-food/unusual-blender-recipes.

I'm not sure about whether any of the ingredients aren't good to have in pregnancy but hadn't heard about a need to avoid spices particularly.

Cineraria · 10/08/2017 22:37

Oops, forgot to say I had a 32 week growth scan today. All looks good as far as the baby is concerned and he weighs 4lb 5oz but the placenta is still rather low so they want to check again in four weeks. I hope it moves up a bit.

boxesoffrogs · 11/08/2017 16:54

Thanks doomkitty and cineraria, that spicy cough mixture looks interesting! Will get mr boxes to get the ingredients and see what he can come up with when he gets home from work. Great news re your growth scan as well!
Just dragged my sorry self to the doctors who gave me antibiotics and more inhalers (been through a whole one since Tuesday Shock). She also gave me a steroid inhaler with one of the spacer things that I used to use when I was a kid! Checked blood pressure, oxygen levels and heart rate and all was fine. Listened to my chest and said it sounded clear. Just thinks it is some sort of 'infection'. Well I hope it bloody well clears up sometime before tomorrow... SadSad

KitKatSplat · 11/08/2017 21:28

11 hour work day today GRRR. A mixture of knackered and pissed off. My work is borderline incompatible with anyone who isn't a total machine with no social life or obligations :(

GimbleInTheWabe · 11/08/2017 21:53

Having a bit of period type pain tonight but only on my right hand side, v low down on my abdomen. Feels like a mix between period pain and pressure but I don't know whether to be concerned or not? It's pretty uncomfortable, not that painful, but I'm not having any other symptoms and baby is still wriggling about lots as usual.

Sorry to hear that you're being worked so hard @KitKatSplat. When does your maternity start?

OP posts:
Bobbiepin · 11/08/2017 23:44

How far along are you @gimble? I had the same last week but it passed pretty quickly. Tbh I think it was wind!

GimbleInTheWabe · 11/08/2017 23:54

I'm 32+5 @Bobbiepin. Could well be wind as I have been a little more musical this evening ha. After a little consultation with Dr.Google I think it may either be baby getting further in to position in my pelvis, he was head down at my last mw appt so is a possibility. Or he's just in a funny position and applying pressure to a nerve or something.
It has actually eased a bit though and wasn't too painful more uncomfortable so hopefully was nothing. I am finding myself being more panicked and worried about baby's movement and if he's okay in there lately.

OP posts:
amypanth · 12/08/2017 19:42

Does anyone find that when you need a wee, it's always only a little one. Even though I'm drinking lots of water?

TippetyTapWriter · 12/08/2017 19:46

Glad your friend's baby is ok greentrees. Hope they can get home soon. Did she have any indication it might come early? I've now started packing my hospital bag just in case!

Hope you're feeling better now boxes. Colds in pregnancy are the worst. Combination of lowered immune system and not being able to take a single useful thing to help! First pregnancy I had to cut short a (very expensive!) holiday in America by a week and fly home because a cold turned into horrendous bronchitis. It's the last holiday I ever managed to take too! Not been away since ds was born!

gimble I've had aching/cramps sort of pain right at bottom of bump. Is that similar? Wasn't sure if it was just from overdoing things or the usual stretching/round ligament pain. I've had some intense pressure down there too which I assume is either a sort of braxton hicks or maybe baby pushing on the bottom of uterus? Wish I could see what's going on in there!

doomkittycleo · 13/08/2017 00:26

@amypath when I have to go I generally do a proper wee, unless baby has been particularly active and kicking my bladder.

I'd keep an eye on it as needing a wee and doing very little could be a sign of a urinary tract infection.

GimbleInTheWabe · 13/08/2017 09:56

Yeah it's s pressure/achey feeling like you say @TippetyTapWriter, think it might just be baby getting lower and a new part of our body to stretch out in! I also sooo wish I could open a little flap or something and check everything's okay in there, although I can feel his body so much more clearly now. I still can't believe he's going to get even bigger!

Question for everyone: does anyone else not have a linea negra??? I had a really faint one at about 16ish weeks and now- nothing!! Feel like I'm missing out on the preggo experience haha although I now have one lonely stretch mark on the lower part of my bump, let's hope he doesn't bring any mates over..

OP posts:
GimbleInTheWabe · 13/08/2017 09:58

And @amypanth I'm def weeing more but doing a normal amount each time, not finding its for just little bits. I agree with @doomkittycleo to keep an eye it. Does it always feel like you need to go or do you go just in case?

OP posts:
mummabubs · 13/08/2017 10:23

@amypanth I get that and definitely don't have a UTI, but then have always been a bit like that even pre-pregnancy. My friends always joked I have a bladder the size of a peanut! I find sometimes even though I feel like I need to wee if I hold off for 10 mins it goes away so I think part of it is where baby lies and puts weight on your bladder?

@GimbleInTheWabe I don't have the linea negra at all (but I do have red scar tissue forming where my belly piercing was, I decided to remove it as soon as I found out I was pregnant). I also have a delightful band of stretch marks working their way across my underbump! I got stretch marks when my hips grew as a teenager so I know once they've faded to white in years to come it won't bother me but they look pretty minging right now! 🙈

doomkittycleo · 13/08/2017 10:27

@Gimble, I don't have a linea nigra or any stretch marks at all. I'm 30+6 today.

Apparently the linea nigra is darker when you have darker skin, so maybe it's because im so pale.

I'm also using palmers stretch mark lotion daily and have done since 16 weeks, so maybe that's keeping stretch marks away. I do have some old silvery ones on my hips from puberty, but non in pregnancy (yet).

I have started with some hip pain yesterday and I'm hoping it's not the start of pgp or something. My hips click quite often anyway (before pregnancy), but I slept on the sofa for a few hours yesterday and it started after that. It's not mega painful, but definitely feels like the hip joint at the front on just the right side. When baby moves I can feel it in my hip, so wondering if baby has changed position and that's the cause.

I'm seeing the midwife on Thursday so will mention it then, just really hope it's not the start of pgp as I want to be able to stay as active as possible.

TheLionQueen1 · 13/08/2017 10:58

I don't have a linea nigra at 31+5! Not gained any stretch marks either, the MW said to me yesterday that if I didn't have stretch marks now it was unlikely I would get any, fingers crossed she was right!!
