As per the original thread, here is a new group as we have almost reached 1000 in the last group. Smile

Glad all was well and great to know you have a good team who understand and are willing to give you an exam/ultrasound. X

We welcomed our daughter today by planned c section (breech baby). She's amazing. It is so surreal. All very calm relatively after the intense and emergency situations with our two sons.

Still haven't got my head around it yet. We got to 38 weeks and my doc took the stitch put post c section. He had a very tough time as was so high and it took him a long time. Luckily I was still under the spinal at this point.

Makes me feel sad that such a relatively simple piece of thread could have saved our angel son.

X

Welcome to the world Mabel! Congratulations April.

Your darling son will be watching over his siblings and guiding them through their lives. I like to think my son will be doing the same for his future siblings xx

So many congratulations to you. And all it took was a bloody piece of thread! I hope my piece of thread saves this baby and gets me to 38 weeks too. Feels so far away right now as I'm only 19+4 and still not out of the danger zone.

MrsGB2225 · 11/08/2017 07:52

Congratulations April! A huge welcome to baby Mabel and all the other short cervix babies.
It is amazing what a piece of thread can do!

I'm 25 weeks and ticking along with the progesterone. I've been doing it rectally as advised, does anyone else have a sore bum though? Sorry for the TMI!

FraggleRock77 · 11/08/2017 10:47

Congratulations April. Wonderful news and a lovely name x

April1984 · 12/08/2017 01:27

Thanks all.

Again I feel you. The pregnancy was such a time warp and some weeks really dragged. Esp up to 28 weeks. Do you celebrate each small milestone?! I used to concentrate on a weekly milestone to focus on max a week at a time. Give myself a little reward for reach it- usually food related!! You'll get there.

The fact it just took a stitch always makes me feel quite sad thinking about our first son. We had no way of knowing but it would have made all the diff if we did. But then it would have been unlikely we'd have had our second son as I got pregnant so soon after losing our first x

Hi all!
Not posted on here since I had my McDonald stitch in February!
Currently sat here 40+5 playing the waiting game!
Stitch removal was so quick easy and pain free! I had it removed at 36 weeks. I felt much more comfortable when it was removed even though I totally didn't think I was uncomfortable at all before!
Then 4 weeks later still here!
Absolutely would recommend it for piece of mind getting to that stage of pregnancy where your baby would be fine to be delivered.
Hope all is okay with everyone else!
Thanks 😁

Evening All :-)

Due to have my stitch out on Monday, but today I had a growth scan, and due to baby having a larger AC they are advising that I have either an elec c section or induction at 38-39 weeks!

That's if I don't go into labour after the removal of my stitch!

Any words of recommendation? I have being searching the web for hours and all I see is horror stories about wing induced.

Any experiences welcome! Xx

Haskell17 · 21/08/2017 16:57

Hi all, just a little update, after my shirodkar stitch was place between 13-14 weeks due to incompetent cervix, it has now been removed!!
I feel slightly free ha! No other words to explain it :-)

My experience was absolutely fine, I arrived at the hospital for 08:00, was met by the midwife, doctor and her team, by 10:00 I was having the epidural, which took about 10 minutes to settle in. The stitch was removed, this took about 10-15 minutes!

The most frustrating part is having the catheter in afterwards, although I was only numb for approx 3 hours, they kept the catherter in for approx 6 hours (they admitted that they just forgot about it). I have an over night stay tonight and should be good to go home tomorrow afternoon!

Was definitely more pressure, worry, bleeding and pain getting placed than being removed :-)

Hope everyone else is doing well :-)

FraggleRock77 · 22/08/2017 10:35

Good luck Haskell. I'm pleased it was easily removed for you xx

peony2017 · 07/09/2017 22:12

Hello all,
I was wondering if I could have the benefit of your experience.
I'm 24+2 and had a stitch at the end of July as my cervix had gone from a lovely 42mm to 22mm in 2 weeks. My cervix continues to shorten slightly but more worrying at the moment is that my fFN test result has increased quite a bit in the last week. Three weeks ago it was 29, last week it had decreased to 4, but this week it has gone up to 101. Have any of you had a similarly high, or higher result?
xxx

AgainPlease · 10/09/2017 20:50

I'm 24 weeks tomorrow. OMG. Never ever thought we'd get to this stage. I'm beyond relieved, happy, and finally starting to get excited at the prospect of taking a baby home at the end of the year. Next milestone is 28 weeks.

@peony2017 I have no experience of this but if @Blueroses99 is still around maybe she could offer advice? Her fFn was up and down.

@Haskell17 Give us an update!! When did baby come?!

@Lauren112233 Has your baby come to by now?

@April1984 And @FraggleRock77 Hope you're enjoying loads of baby snuggles.

I ended up reading the entire original thread and it was so nice to see first timers joining again in subsequent pregnancies Smile

Haskell17 · 10/09/2017 23:46

Evening all,

Still no baby!! Being induced on Wednesday (which will be 39+3) they are inducing me to make sure baby doesn't get to big, our hospital currently seem to be worrying with a lot of mums to be with potential shoulder dysplasia, so nervous but shows that the stitch really did do its job!

I've had mild period like aches since Friday but nothing more, I have been walking everywhere but no baby yet!

Keep you all posted x

AgainPlease · 15/09/2017 21:03

How did it go @Haskell17 ?!

My cervix has shortened to 24mm from 28mm 4 weeks ago. Currently 24+5 so not out of the woods yet. Back on bed rest Sad

Haskell17 · 16/09/2017 20:39

Hi All,

Baby Joseph arrived safe on Wednesday morning via c section (due to the doctors thinking he may have been a big baby, which he wasn't but he arrived safe and happy :-) )

The hospital sent me home after 24 hours, c section recovery is proving to be a little difficult at home due to furniture not being designed hospital style but other than that all is good in our little world!

Hope everyone is well and feeling positive

Xx

FraggleRock77 · 16/09/2017 21:32

Congrats Haskell. That's sporting sending you home after 24 hours. Best of luck x

AgainPlease · 18/09/2017 15:06

Congratulations @Haskell17 and baby Joseph!!!!

Deborah1lea · 23/09/2017 18:00

Hi ladies

Congrats to all the new moms and those braving through the bed rest.

Does anyone have any experience with a preventive stitch before pregnancy?

I have lost two babies in the past year so my Gyni put in a stitch on Thursday in anticipation of us conceiving early next year.

I had an uterus abnormality, a double uterus with a septum which she removed in the same surgery.

I just can't seem to find any information online if anyone else having a stitch before pregnancy.

She put in a shirodkar stitch, and when she went in there my cervix was wide open.

Any info is welcome!

Paranormalbouquet · 05/10/2017 17:15

Hello everyone in the short cervix club!

I’m wondering if anyone here had pre-pregnancy counselling. I had a bad cervical tear during my EMCS a few years ago, and the repair+ scarring have left me with a cervical length of around 15mm on dildocam. I’ve also unfortunately just had an abnormal smear which gynae are keen to do a LLETZ for- I’m desperately trying to find a way to avoid this! But if I do go ahead I’ll be left with

AgainPlease · 05/10/2017 22:33

@Deborah1lea I have heard it's definitely possible to get pregnant naturally with a cervical stitch because there's still a big enough opening in the cervix for semen to get through.
So so sorry to hear about your previous losses. How far along were you and was it specifically because of your cervix you lost them? I lost my son at 20 weeks last year. Currently 27+4 with a girl and a stitch!

@Paranormalbouquet do you have money to get a private consultation with a gynaecologist? Might be worth it to talk over your concerns and options. I had a LLETZ which has left me with a cervix of 28mm - this was never flagged up with my midwife (even though it was written down in my maternity notes) and I ended up losing my son.. anyway, I went to go see my private gynae for a smear test after giving birth as I wanted to get pregnant again as soon as possible and I was saying to her "is there any hope for me with my short cervix in another pregnancy?!" And she said she's seen women having dilated cervix's (spelling?!) at 8 weeks pregnant and getting a stitch and going to term, other stories, including those I've read on this thread, are of women with a cervix flush to the stitch and another with a cervix of 0.5mm and getting to term! I think you need to be prepared for a lot of bedrest though and that's a killer.

Paranormalbouquet · 06/10/2017 09:18

Again I’m very sorry to hear you lost your son.

I’m seeing a private gynaecologist next week for a second opinion. I was quite happy to have abnormalities removed on the day of colposcopy until I learned just how damaged my cervix was by my delivery. So will definitely be pushing for biopsy and won’t be having a lletz unless it’s clearly CIN3 I think. Would prefer to have expectant management until I have another child, as at 15mm I’m already going to have a high risk pregnancy and the risk will only go up with treatment.

The gynaecologist who did procedure last week was quite dismissive of my concerns, which I understand as they see the effects of non-treatment but I’m concerned about overtreatment!

Casselliss · 07/11/2017 13:56

Has anyone had a stitch removed by Nick Wales at Chelsea & Westminster? Mine is due out on Thursday and I don't think they routinely give pain relief, it's high and has been in 25 weeks so am thinking I might need to take or request something! TIA x

Bettimate89 · 12/11/2017 09:32

Hi everyone.

Firstly I’m sooo glad I’ve found somewhere that I can share/talk support lovely ladies that are going through the same thing.

I’m currently 14+3 with my very first baba!!

In June I had LETZ for abnormal cells. At my 12 wk scan I measured 2.4mm. I’m back at consultant this Wednesday but I really just don’t know what to expect/think/plan for!!

Do you ever get kept in the same day? Is it worth me taking an overnight bag just incase? Will I even need a stitch? Sooo many questions in my head and I’m driving myself to the brink of crazy.

Any advice or support would be brill.
Xx

peony2017 · 13/11/2017 12:49

Hi Bettimate, Congratulations! I think it depends. In general, if you have a short cervix and they're putting in a preventative stitch and all goes well, I think the norm is to be discharged on the same day, unless it's really late (this time round I had a preventative stitch and they weren't ready to discharge till 2am, so they suggested I might want to stay overnight, though I didn't). If it's a rescue stitch and someone has started to dilate etc, then you could be kept in (the first time round, I had a rescue stitch as I was 2cm dilated with bulging membranes at 21 weeks and I was kept in for 3 months and 1 week). I'd advise to pack for one night; more stuff can always be brought/bought if needed after a day.
Hi there Casselliss, you must be so excited to have reached removal time. I haven't had any experience with Nick Wales, but I think that generally pain relief is limited to gas & air and maybe paracetemol afterwards. The first time I had my stitch out (I don't reached that point in this pregnancy for another 3weeks), I had only gas and air and I remember it not being particularly painful at all. I didn't need pain killers afterwards either. xxx
