Good luck Rise it's a hard decision to make but hopefully U come to one that suites u and is as close to original birth plan as possible x

teainbed · 11/05/2017 21:56

@1004Rise it could be a lot longer than that which is a risk. But if it works you could have a lovely vaginal delivery, quick recovery and subsequent babies could be born vaginally too. Your body could be really good at delivering a big baby! Or it might not be that big. Confused My Consultants were lovely too but very risk averse. Certainly at ERI they were.

savagehk · 11/05/2017 22:20

Still not sure why the sudden panic. You're not due till next week, first baby (?), baby's not showing any signs of being engaged (so not much chance of a sudden waters breaking I'd have thought?!). So prolapse unlikely (unless you also have excess fluid?).

And the big baby issue covered by the article I linked to.

Why not a bit of wait and see, perhaps with extra appointments to check engagement?

If you do go for induction, the first bit (pessary) is often just boring not tiring. If you do react badly to it, then yes, could be tiring but at that point you could request an epidural, with the intention to get some rest and have it wear off later so you can be more active? Might not go to plan if it doesn't wear off in time though, and they might not want you on your feet, but could consider leaning on bed or something as an alternative. And some women have quick easy inductions, you just never know.

CoxsOrangePippin · 11/05/2017 22:24

Take care rise, hope you get some rest tonight.

MrsJW15 · 11/05/2017 23:58

Not sure what I can add @1004Rise but hugs and hope you are able to come to a decision you are happy with.

@mrspage1985 you can get the very soft sleep bras which are good for nursing, apparently. I've got a couple of those for the first few weeks.

lullaby23 · 12/05/2017 00:57

mrspage bit fiddly to breastfeed with normal bras, the clips on nursing bras make access much easier or if you're handy you can buy converter kits for an existing bra that fits well. I recommend stretchy ones to begin with as you don't know what size you'll end up at.

rise sorry you've had such a shock. For what it's worth I declined induction for ELCS for similar reasons and never regretted it. I had a lot of anxiety around being induced and worst case needing a EMCS so it was the right decision for me, however of course it's a very personal thing.

Good luck jenny keep us posted.

dream are you local??

jennymac31 · 12/05/2017 04:44

Morning ladies

Baby boy arrived at 8.36pm yesterday. It was quite a dramatic entrance and led to him having to spend a few hours in nicu because he had swallowed lots of meconium.

He's doing alright but feeding is a bit of a challenge at the moment.

Will still a picture and details of labour on other thread shortly.

Tickyboovicki · 12/05/2017 05:09

@jennymac31 congratulations! We had a dramatic entrance as well, all worth it in the end though! Hope your recovering ok, don't forget to take care of yourself as well! 💕

Brightsmoke · 12/05/2017 05:48

Congratulations Jenny

EsmesBees · 12/05/2017 06:14

Congratulations Jenny! Feeding is often tricky at the start. Don't be afraid to ask for more help and support if you need it.

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 12/05/2017 06:18

Congratulations Jenny best wishes for a speedy recovery for both of you

Lullaby oh yes, I'm welcome in the shop GrinGrinGrin

lullaby23 · 12/05/2017 06:53

Rustler74 · 12/05/2017 07:02

Congratulations @jennymac31 I hope you'll have more snuggles with babyMac soon x

@1004Rise sorry to hear you need such big decisions. I've kind of picked up that the consultant often has a wrung image of what a natural birth could be like as they mostly see complicated ones. When I spoke to the junior doctor last week she was rambling a text of risks about giving birth to a big baby whereas mine wouldn't even be bigger than 9lbs at point of induction (estimated). Also I was miffed at being berated for having a big baby when I didn't! The thought of having to give birth on my back with legs up would raise many questions about the consultant's view on giving birth. @savagehk wisely said there's 4 more days in which lots can happen so take your time and enjoy the weekend. Be up and going when you can, circle your bottom on the ball etc...

Woke up from a terrible dream where we were on the run for something and I ended up in Belgium on my own where apparently in my dream things about birth are far behind UK so I refused to give birth there and I'd lost my partner in the trip there so I was very unhappy! Woke up in a tight sweat with OH snoring so not in the best of moods. Someone tell me these dreams are gonna be finished once sprout is here?
At least I'll have crumpets for breakfast! Will my dress fit for the wedding today?

PeachIcedT · 12/05/2017 07:03

Congratulations Jenny! Wishing you both a quick recovery.

teainbed · 12/05/2017 07:05

Congratulations @jennymac31 ! Hope you can get some rest today.

Jugoo28 · 12/05/2017 07:51

Congratulation Jenny!

Another long stretch between posts but I am 38 weeks today and finally on maternity leave woohoo! Hoping bubba makes an early appearance as I'm getting a bit jealous of all the babies arriving here and in real life!

Sipperskipper · 12/05/2017 07:51

Huge congrats jenny. Hope you both recover quickly & can get settled in at home.

rise I'm predicted to have a 'big baby' - 9lb ish, but 4 days overdue currently so likely bigger - saw consultant after junior docs etc were worried - as no diabetes he wasn't worried at all - more than happy for a low risk birth in MLU (although ours is in the hospital right next to consultant unit, which may make a difference).

I think it really depends on the individual Dr & their views / experiences. Could you ask for a second opinion? The other thing you can do (certainly in England anyway) is ask about 'facilitating women's choices' - and how you can make a decision about your birth that the consultant might not agree with. And perhaps ask to meet with senior midwife?

newbieho · 12/05/2017 08:55

@1004Rise I second what @savagehk and @Rustler74 said. You've got big decision to make - sending you tons of hugs

@jennymac31 congratulations on the arrival of the little one, hope the feeding issues are sorted soon

@Teaspoon74 thanks for the scarf reminder, this is noted. Good luck x

@dreamofhungarianlanterns beautiful photo and the area you are living in.

Newbie baby due date is today so lots of walking, curry and pineapple are on the cards. Come on boy, we're waiting for you!

MissMooMoo · 12/05/2017 10:21

Congrats Jenny

teainbed · 12/05/2017 10:33

Come on BabyNewbie!

Well BabyTea absolutely excelled himself last night. Grin Went down at 11, back up at 1. Fed/cried constantly until 4.30 when he finally went back to sleep. Up again at 6.30. Fed again at 8.30 and now again at 10.30! All completely normal I know but feck me it's relentless today! BrewBrewBrew

Rabbitykins55 · 12/05/2017 10:43

Congratulations @jennymac31 !

Iceland have a pack of nine crumpets for £1! Foolishly I only brought one pack. Rookie mistake.

Just had a sweep. Wasn't as bad as I expected.

Badgerbird · 12/05/2017 10:56

Huge congratulations jenny!! Glad baby is here safe and sound :)

Thanks raspberry we've had a lovely time together :) hope aquanatal was fun? I wanted to go yesterday but woke up with swollen glands and thought "nah"

Oh rise what a shock! I really feel for you. The consultant sounds like she explained things well though so hopefully you can make an informed decision even if it's not what you wanted :(

dream. and bright have you tried lots of nipple stimulation to get oxytocin flowing?

newbie We were laughing at hypnobirthing class last night talking natural induction methods with visions of us manically bouncing on ball whilst tweaking nipples, eating a truckload of pineapple with hot sauce with acupuncture needles sticking out of our heads!!

jugoo I'm 38 weeks today too Smile Im one of those weirdos who is still enjoying being pregnant. In reality it's prob coz I'm so not ready yet!! Confused

Ooh keep us posted rabbity!

FoxMulder · 12/05/2017 11:11

rise if you go for induction ask about wireless monitoring. Agree with savage though seems weird they are talking about prolapsed cords when there's no reason to think your waters are about to break any second.

Sonnet18 · 12/05/2017 11:21

Just checking in and saw more babies have arrived! Congrats! I am due today! So far no sign. Been in pain for at least 10 days now so I'm not reading too much into anything any more. Getting pretty fed up but not much I can do about it! Anyone else due today who still hasn't had their baby (or anyone else overdue?)

savagehk · 12/05/2017 11:25

Me, officially 40+6 today. Probably more like 40+0, though, and last one arrived at 40+19.
