Hi Everyone, just got back. I know, i've been all day.

Had scan this morning as planned but baby was lying on one arm so they couldn't see it. The woman said she would check it at the end but forgot. I got back to work and was about to ring everyone and come on MN when i got a call from the hospital saying could i come back for another scan. I had completely forgotton about the 2nd arm and phoned DP in a panic, he picked me up and we went back. Everything fine and got some more pics for our trouble. We're having..... drum roll please....... A BOY!!!!!!!!! So DP and his dream were completely wrong and the poor baby is probably gonna have a complex for the rest of his life for being called Lily for 4 months. Have to think of boys names now. That's a few boys on here now i think. We'll have to keep a tally.

Good luck for tomorrow Uki

conkertree · 27/03/2007 15:52

congrats mrsshuvel - must have been a bit scary but great that it was just something missed.

was thinking there have been quite a few boys so far, but guess its maybe just easier to spot on the scan so if they dont see anything, it could still be either.

dh has fallen out with his parents again via his brother in australia, so he is going off to meet his dad for coffee to try and sort things out. his mum has been winding his dad up saying we are not going to let them see his grandchild or some other nonsense like that. no idea where its come from, but could do without it.

purplerabbit is planning to do the buggyboard thing Gill - and the sling idea as a back up seems sensible. I think there are so many slings out there, you are likely to find one that suits you and doesnt hurt your back if you have time to look. i like the fabric ones rather than the baby bjorn types.

Babbit · 27/03/2007 15:56

Hi all. Wow - I haven't got time to read all the posts but it is very busy in here now. I did see it was your dd's birthday last Saturday Gill. Happy birthday to her. It is my dd's 2nd birthday this Saturday. We are having a party but am beginning to regret it now as I probably could have got away with it. Luckily it is not at home, we are having
it at a soft play place.

Are those of you with children already going to get a double buggy? I am resisting at the moment, and will wait and see. Will use the sling for a while. We bought a bulky travel system last time (Mamas & Papas) and it was good for a while, but we needn't have spent so much money and it takes up so much room indoors.

Have my 20 week scan next Tuesday. Can't wait!!

Good luck to all those awaiting their scans and I am glad to hear all the good news from those who have had theirs. xx

katybird · 27/03/2007 16:14

Glad your scan was fine Mrsshuvel. Trying to think of boy's names that sound like Lily so he's not too confused . Billy? We have ours next week, hope they can tell the sex.

Conkertree - sorry about the in-laws. MILs can get a bit hysterical about grandchildren but I'm sure they'll sort it all out.

Hope evrything works out with the inlaws Conker.

Thanks everyone for your support with the scan. I was so nervous.

BabyMadwithBump · 27/03/2007 16:59

Just been reading April's tread wow four births today alone, crying my eyes out hormones hay I so wish I was 38/40 week and the any day my baby is going to be here feeling, I'm so inpatient, any body else feel this way? I don't deal very well with the whole waiting game and I still have 18 more weeks to wait!

kiteflying · 27/03/2007 17:10

Noooo babymad, I want to have a little bump for a while and work up gradually. I can't imagine being the size of a whale right now although I am impatient to meet my LO.

kiteflying · 27/03/2007 17:13

congrats MrsShuvel - you must be delighted with your news

kiteflying · 27/03/2007 17:16

there is a mumsnetter selling a pliko today if anyone is interested. No price given in her ad though

saturn · 27/03/2007 20:18

kiteflying - the M&P factory outlet we went to is in Huddersfield, so probably too far to get to from London. Not sure whether they have others though, but worth it if you can get to one if you've seen things in the store you want.

congratulations on your scan Mrsshuvel, so nice to know everything is ok. Uki - good luck with your scan tomorrow.

Has anyone on here been to the NCT classes with previous pregnancies? Just looking into them and wondered whether they were worth the money.

Babymad - I can't believe how slowly the last three months have gone, expected the time to fly by. I've still got another 22 weeks to go!!

Might go have a read of the April thread now too...

PurpleRabbit · 27/03/2007 20:54

Hi everyone. Don't think I've posted since I had my 20 week scan (at 19 + 2!). Everything was fine, but we didn't find out the flavour so we'll need to think up a name for each!

GillL - think I'm going to try and avoid double buggies too. DS will be two and a half when baby comes, and he's already starting to want to walk more and go in the buggy less, so I'm planning to encourage that over the next few months and get a BuggyBoard too. I also already have a Baby Bjorn sling, so might try your idea of baby in sling and toddler in buggy.

conkertree · 28/03/2007 09:03

morning everyone.

baby was kicking lots last night when i was in bed so got dh to try and feel it. it was really funny him trying to work out exactly when and me telling him when but him trying to work out if it was him just moving his hand or not.

i am a bit the same babymad - thinking 18 weeks is still a long way away, but then have lots of things happening in april, and two weeks holiday in may, so that bit will probably go quite quickly.

lovelybird · 28/03/2007 10:23

Hi all,

I'm off work sick and feel crap and can only have paracetamol and don't like to have lots of those either. have felt better though reading all the previous posts. Hope everyone is OK.

The baby is moving and wriggling all the time now, but still not quite strong enough for DH to feel it. We've got the scan on Monday when I'll be 21 weeks exactly. I'm keen to find out the sex but need to convince DH. Already have a gorgeous DS, so just being practical and thinking about washing all of DS's baby clothes or not...
Congrats to everyone who has found out the flavour of their baby. Is it all boys so far? Makes me go misty eyed every time!

We also need a new pram, we had a Graco Travel system last time and it was great, so thinking of another travel system this time but need to start looking but got so much DIY to do on the house before baby can put in an appearance.

jem1969 · 28/03/2007 10:27

Morning all

Back from New York- so many messages to read
Welcome new people, well done on all the scans.
Have still not felt anything- wish it would happen soon- 20 week scan on Monday.
Feel totally shattered today but had great time in NY. Dreading the credit card bills. Gap maternity is fantastic-there is usually some on uk ebay. I went a bit mad in there. Bought one pair of jeans and then had to buy another as SO comfortable, especially compared to my Top Shop ones that make my legs itch unbearably when I wear them. If anyone is going to the States look in Old Navy as well- cheap as chips for vest tops etc. Bought one baby thing which couldn't resist, otherwise I'm ashamed to say it was all about ME!
Really don't want to be in work today. Tonight I'm meeting friends who are 36 and 32 weeks pg so that should hopefully make me feel nice and slim-they are also 44 and 42 so should feel young as well!

BabyMadwithBump · 28/03/2007 11:15

Just me then, oh well I'll just have to be more patient LO is keeping me awake all night movement are soooo strong and I was cuddling up to DH last night and he moved away, I asked why, he said baby was giving him back ache keep kicking him, how the hell does he think I feel MW app next week cant wait and I'm going to have to take DC with me JOYS, but on the other hand it'll be nice to see what they make of HB sound Oh and I've started feeling sick again, best be a short tream thing!

GillL · 28/03/2007 11:44

Babymad - I'm definitely glad I've got ages to go. I need the time to be mentally prepared and it will be good for dd to be a few months older in order to cope with a sibling.

Lol about the baby giving your dh backache I've been feeling much stronger movements in the last couple of days and dh can feel it too. It will be nice when there are proper kicks that dd can feel so it will seem more real to her. She knows there's a baby in mummy's tummy but I don't know if she really understands.

Saturn - I went to NCT classes when I was pg with dd. I think it was well worth the money (about £100 if I remember rightly). They were much better than the NHS classes that I went to. They talked about how you're going to feel when the new baby arrives and how to actually look after it. I would recommend it if it's your first baby.

Babbit · 28/03/2007 12:15

I did NCT antenatal classes too and found them helpful (although didn;t actually get a chance to put any of the techniques to use during labour to good use!). I think the most benefit was gained by my DH who couldn't attend the NHS classes as they were on a Wednesday morning. I think they definitely gave him confidence to question the Dr when they wanted to give me an epidural and hormones (I told him to shut up and let them get on with it, however...). Money well spent and made a few Mummy friends.

conkertree · 28/03/2007 13:42

i'd really like to go to nct classes, but they are all booked up in glasgow and stirling until after august so can't unfortunately. was thinking of hypnobirthing ones instead, but since the low lying placenta thing on the scan showed up - think it could end up being a waste of money, and we wont know either way till 30 weeks.

will have to stick to nhs ones, and get purplerabbit to give me private classes too.

myweegirl · 28/03/2007 14:11

hi everyone

i don't know how you all manage to keep uptodate with all the news on here - i've taken to skim reading and have probably missed loads. though i'm supposed to be working just now but thought i'd try and catch up with all the news.

mrsshuvel - that must have been a worry for you - glad you've just got a very wriggly baby.

is there a big difference between NCT and NHS classes? We didn't do either last time round...but are thinking about it this time.

I've was struck down with a horrible sickness and diarhoea bug at the beginning of the week - fortunately much better now but it's bad enough at the best of times never mind when pregnant!

redtent · 28/03/2007 14:17

Hi all,

Things are quite mannic here. 20wk scan was ok... they didn't get a good view of the heart which has me in a bit of a pannic.. but the little beanie is kicking like mad so I guess s/he must be doing great!

have bought some lovely new lemon/white unisex baby clothes and am not planning to shop again till after birth. we have a few bits that I'd use from the boys even if beanie is a girl.

Good news is that we are definately settled on names- boys and girls. So now I just feel like I need to enjoy the rest of the calm before the storm.

Wonderfully ds 1 seems to understand what is going on! ds 2 is oblivious!

I am really ooking forward to birth and meeting this one now.

gotta find a cure for my haagen daaz cravings tho or I'll be huge... keep worrying that dc is probably only 1lb in weight and I need to put on another 10lbs ish (let's face it dc 3 will prob be bigger than dc 2!)

Anyone recomend any pretty maternity tops? Trying to feel more pretty and less frumpy!

katybird · 28/03/2007 14:35

Hi everyone, hope you're all enjoying the sunshine. Had my first Solero of the season, makes me happy .

Hope you're properly feeling better soon myweegirl. You have to pay for NCT classes but I think they're better for meeting other pregnant people locally. I think they also lean more towards active/natural births.

Redtent - I got some lovely maternity tops from New Look, but it depends what you're after, they're quite t-shirty.

kiteflying · 28/03/2007 14:41

Afternoon all, nice to see so many people. Sorry to hear you were ill myweegirl - hope you are better now. Congrats on all the good scan results and to redtent for actually deciding on names.

I decided I was fed up with feeling blimpy and went to the gym today. It was great - I managed fifteen minutes slow pedalling on a bike and a whole step class (going carefully). Now let's see if I am horribly sore tomorrow. Katybird, I am definitely booking in for the Active Birth Centre yoga classes so hope we meet up.

Anyone who already has children - can you confirm for me that the whole change bag thing is just a big con? I was hoping to get away with using one of the many rucksacks we have sitting around or an old Bloomingdales shopper at most. Is this wishful thinking? My BF has already started on at me about thermal thingummies for bottles etc etc. He seems unconvinced I will manage to breastfeed, or maybe just nervous about the aesthetic consequences??

kiteflying · 28/03/2007 14:43

redtent I would add a recommendation for benetton - very pretty tunic tops with matching wrap cardigans for spring

katybird · 28/03/2007 14:48

kiteflying - great news about yoga, are you signing up for the Sunday ones? Will be nice to know someone there.
