Just thought I'd better kick a new one off...
Another day, another tearful outburst at work! It's getting very embarrassing Is it just me who feels like crying at the drop of a hat? Maybe it's lack of sleep, just not dealing very well with things that would not normally bother me, then something really small sets me off. cried in the toilets for 20 minutes today! Can't even explain why. Is this normal still at this stage?

Lol at fp!! Poor foxy , sending non pukey hug type vibes your way!! Spill, what are your names oh smug one? Or are they a big secret?

hollyandalice · 19/03/2007 19:19

OMG IT'S SNOWING!!!!

Seansgirl · 19/03/2007 19:24

Yes, Foxy the smug one what are your names then oh pukey one? Meant in the most affection tone of course!

Or was it you had DPs names sorted and not the babys? What other good names besides FP have you?

BTW Holly, think you're absolutely right we spend far too much pissing about on here and not doing domestic drugery, before you know it we'll have to start another one! Oh the pressure of a new thread name

Seansgirl · 19/03/2007 19:29

Sputnik, you're not alone on the blubbing front - I had floods over the fact that DM had been to house before our home coming and bought a new vase and lovely flowers for me and some champagne. God did I cry!

doggus · 19/03/2007 19:29

oooh if it is snowing your way, H&A, it may make it to us!

Marylou - no, he won't come to heel (yet). Though I have shouted his nickname in Tesco and he has sheepishly rounded the corner watched by interested shoppers!

Thank you all for the input re the mother thing. I don't want to diss her, particularly as I am an only child and this will be her first grandchild. But on the other hand, dh and I will both go potty if it is longer than three days, so I think we will keep it to that. She is an excellent cook, unlike me, so dh will enjoy that. She is also where I got my OCD from, so the house will be clean, at least...

LOL at fp, foxy. When did you choose your names - have you always wanted them?

Seansgirl · 19/03/2007 19:32

What was the Barbara Woodhouse programme or book? Wasn't it the Woodhouse way or something like that? Tee Hee we could have "The Doggus Way"

hollyandalice · 19/03/2007 19:33

I just stuck my head out the door and gave the snow a good waft in the general direction of Dorset!!

Oh it's stopped now ! Maybe it's on its way!

hollyandalice · 19/03/2007 20:38

Any snow yet doggus?

All you lovely ladies with well trained men- how do you get your dp/dhs to do chores? My dp has been "working from home" today. In other words he has been sat on his arse on the sofa all day watching Sky Sports News and having the odd snooze! He is now watching the football. I have asked him about 3 times to do the washing up and he keeps saying he'll do it in a minute! Grrr! Am I too soft?

doggus · 19/03/2007 21:11

Or I could be 'The Doggus Whisperer'

No snow, H&A, waft harder....tbh we never get it here, so disappointing, the most we ever get is a bit of crappy sleet. It is something to do with the curve of the coast [vacant face].

Dh is not so good at doing yer actual chores, we haven't got up to 'Manual Labour Chapter 6' of the handbook yet. He does the dishwasher, bins, comes to the supermarket but I do all washing, changing beds, cooking (ie prick, prick, PING), and cleaning.

hollyandalice · 19/03/2007 21:17

TBH I have been a bit lazy today, but I have still made 3 meals, put washing away, tidied the spare room and done one lot of washing up as well as all the baby things (nappies, changing clothes, stories, playing and putting down for nap). He has done naff all apart from make a few calls the lazy bugger!

The snow here lasted for approx 5 mins and went! We hardly get snow here either, the Isle of Wight shelters us! Bloody stupid island!

babymonster · 19/03/2007 21:23

Just letting all you rhesus negative girlies know I've had the anti D injection today and it's nothing. Just a small injection in the top of the arm. Had to stay behing for 20 minutes incase of a reation which is so rare the mid-wife has never known anyone have one. So just wanted to give everyone peace of mind that its nothing to worry about.

notsolilKel · 19/03/2007 21:23

Hi!
Before I attempt catching up with all you chatty lot, let me just say how very proud I am of myself. I hemmed the curtains in our lounge today, all by myself. And only poked myself in the finger with the needle 20 times and knotted the thread (in the wrong place) once!! MMmm back in the old days I would've paid a stupid amount of money to have someone else do it! (Mum of course would be the other answer but alas she's too far away).

Marylou, I'm so with you on being sick & tired of mat clothes. Esp as the cuter ones I own are now getting rather tight! As for having higher ideals, well, world peace is nice but completely unrealistic. However it should be doable to find nicer outfits to wear. If we just look hard enough...

Foxy, please fess up. What are your delicious names?? I've decided against Sienna even though we love it. That darned woman and that Jude person just ruined it for me. So we're back to Jasmine. Or Zoe. Gah.

My technique for getting DH to help round the house: make visible list of to-do's and pin/magnetise to notice board. One list for you, one for him. Yours will always be longer and you will always be ticking things off. His pitiful progress will be evident. Gentle reminder and suggestions in advance of footie matches followed by huge smiles of gratitude. Prioritise though - it's not worth nagging for the small stuff. My DH can't wash dishes well anyway - always leaves some greasy spot or such. OCD, me? Def!

P.S. - often after I've provided a yummy meal, around the final bite or so I'll sit back and ask sweetly for him to clear up. It's all in the timing. He's full and happy and clearly you've outdone yourself. Payback - it's a simple concept!!

Hmm. Time to start deciding what my midnight snack will be

babymonster · 19/03/2007 21:23

sorry meant reaction

notsolilKel · 19/03/2007 21:25

LOL Doggus Whisperer

And oh yeah Holly, you sure have been one lazy SOB. Get off your arse and polish the ceiling or something would ya?

bumperlicious · 19/03/2007 21:32

H&A, you want to come round and be lazy at my house?! I've got cobwebs as long as my arm, and I think I may have just broken washing machine by trying to wash a rug that's dry clean or handwash only...I'm not cut out for this domestic lark! I'm more house slattern than house wife!

OP posts:
doggus · 19/03/2007 21:37

Lilkel - I like your style with dh training! I shall incorporate the noticeboard idea when baby is born. Well done on hemming, I am still at the paying stupid amounts stage.

I bought a dress and leggings from the maternity range at Warehouse which arrived today - both were the same size, the dress was too small and the leggings were like baggy tights. I am sick of mat wear too. And now it's cold so I am back in bloody jumpers

Foxy - tell us your names, please (gives her a Chinese burn to help along the process).

hollyandalice · 19/03/2007 21:40

IKWYM about men and washing up lilkel! Mine always leaves grease on things (I'm not anal about any housework except grease on washing up), but it's the principal of it! Also it's my most hated chore, I am so looking forward to having a dishwasher!

Well done for your sewing! I have so much sewing to do, but I have no sewing machine that is in any kind of working order and hand sewing is def not my forte, it always goes wonky!

notsolilKel · 19/03/2007 21:50

Hmm. I promise you all, if I ever become a politician, one of my platforms shall be "Women's clothing sizes must be meaningful and consistent." Oh it really irks me!! And don't get me started on baby clothes sizes. You first timers, take note! Ignore the label - I know it's persuasive and convincing but they mean NOTHING - just look at how big the thing is, and then buy one size bigger than you think. Believe me, it will save you heartache and wasted romper suits. (Or am I the only one who shrinks abs everything? )

How sad am I? One of my greatest aspirations at the moment is to own a bigger dishwasher. (Cue groans). Yes it's pathetic. Of course I was thrilled to have one at all, but it truly is microscopic. It's full with about 4 bottles and 2 plates. Maddening.

hollyandalice · 20/03/2007 07:59

Haha!! I stuck to my guns and my dp is finally doing the washing up! I know it's the morning, but I think he thought if he left it then I would end up getting pissed off and doing it myself! Well I didn't!

marylou23 · 20/03/2007 10:34

Well done you, Holly. To get men to do anything involves being able to ignore dirt and washing-up build up until they finally get off their a*ses. Although, to be honest, Doggus, this is where we part company - I'm with Bump on housework, ie rubbish. I'm very tidy, but the bathroom has to be pretty vile before I'll get out the Jif. My secret to domestic harmony is a cleaner. £21 a week is a small price to pay, I find and also means we're less likely to die from salmonella/other kitchen bugs...

hollyandalice · 20/03/2007 10:53

Oh to have a cleaner !

Well I'm going into town now! M&S sale started today and I'm gonna snap up some bargains (well buy lots of really cute little dresses for my dd)! Hopefully they'll have some nursing bras, last time I got some pretty lacey ones for £5! Hopefully I won't spend too much!

sputnik · 20/03/2007 11:36

Sales? (pricks up ears) Didn't know they had sales this time of year, obviously I'm out of touch. Is that just M&S or other places too? Goodie, I'll be in the UK for easter so will bear that in mind.

TBH, I hate it if DH does housework, he huffs and puffs and moans about how filthy it is, uncovers all my dirty little secrets that I was going to get around to doing eventually, and then leaves whatever he was doing half finished and I end up being the one that has to move all the furniture back or whatever. Far rather he put up shelves or something, or took DD to the swings.

marylou23 · 20/03/2007 11:51

We had to get a cleaner because DH has the worst combination of being far more critical of dust than I am AND never actually doing any cleaning himself. Cue lots of arguments... . Now it's domestic bliss. At least, it is on the day she comes before it becomes a tip again

foxybrown · 20/03/2007 13:17

Morning lovely ladies! Been a bit busy, going to the gym and what have you [smug emotion].

Am trying to be a better mom. Afterall, its what I'm meant to be doing, not spending hours on MN! But I was ill yesterday and FP was home. And he owed me big time. Am thawing slightly. Can't sulk for ever. (Well, I can sulk for Britain, but have to move on). Plus he's out the next 3 nights, so I'm looking forward to my time alone. He did want to buy some Clarins for mothers day, and I told him I he needent bother. Cutting my nose off to spite my face springs to mind. Oh hum.

Also attempted to play Buckeroo before lunch today, but got so pissed off with DD and her inability to take turns, came into kitchen to prepare lunch. And catch up with y'all.

Ah, yes. I have done the names thing. Thing is, do I protect my anonymity on here and keep schtum? Well DD2 will be Eve. Evie Rose. Eve because I like it, and Rose because we were in Sydney's Botanical Rose garden earlier this year when we got the call to say she was OK. DS1's name was the name of a film and when I saw it on the front of a video box I knew. No its not Chucky. FP came up with DS2, and DD was named after my nana.

DD got her first 'star' at nursery today for knowing all her colours. I'm so proud! all I could do to stop myself crying!

We never row over the housework. We have a cleaner. A condition of having baby no 4 was to have the cleaner twice a week! Deal is, FP pays and I don't ask him to mop the floor. I am generally better at DIY anyway and he has little interest in our home environment so I get to rule the roost!

(Actually we have 2 cleaners who work as a team and get the job done in half the time. And I don't pay them enough [guilty expression]).

Ahh, DS2 just said "mummy, I'm worried about you. Because you're ill". Bless him.

Enough of my drivel. Going to go and be a better mum. LOL everyone xx

foxybrown · 20/03/2007 13:19

babymonster - I too am RH-. The midwife forgot to give me my anti-D after having the last baby! Very worrying for this pregnancy, but turned out all OK, thankfully. Am glad they give it twice during pg now. Thanks for reminding me - have mine due in 2 weeks.
