Thanks for the birth plan suggestions, very helpful. I'm going to try and get something printed off in the next few days. I would quite like dh to be the first one to pick up the baby rather than a stranger so might put that in there.

1004Rise · 11/04/2017 14:10

Thanks for the birth plan examples ladies, useful for things to think about! My work life is driven by plans, but my two favourite sayings are no plan survives contract & we only have a plan to deviate from so @RasperryInAMelon your "wish list" sounds more realistic! Grin

@FoxMulder thats what I thought too... some of it seems obvious but better too much information than not enough

@RasperryInAMelon hope she's turned, I've been exploring spinning babies (thanks @beanturnipandspud ) as well as bouncing so if she hasn't definitely worth a look as they also talk about it giving baby more space might help your ribs

Baby was measuring at about 6lbs yesterday according to the reliable tape measure Hmm still on that 90th centile line so who knows what size s/he will come out at (particularly if s/he decides to be late)

Straw poll, has anyone thought about induction options if you go past your due date? I'm convinced this baby will be late, but I'm not keen on getting induced because it feels like it's the start of a whole load of interventions Confused

Rustler74 · 11/04/2017 14:13

My new pouch for maternity notes, so pleased with it. I have been given it by a friend whose wife had a stillbirth at 30 weeks and he's now a volunteer for angel babies charity, giving lectures.

@1004rise you're not overdue until 42 weeks. I'll be refusing induction. Scan date for me puts me earlier than I know I am, as it did last time. I refused last time and labour started at 42+4 (when I thought I was 40+13, so still under the 42w). If you go past 42 weeks you are offered a scan to check the placenta is OK and daily (or every other day) heartbeat monitoring of the baby.

1004Rise · 11/04/2017 14:28

@savagehk that's my issue too the scan date has me due a week earlier than I think I am... which is partly why I think I'll be late. So do they leave you alone until 42 weeks if you say you don't want to be induced?

Autumnsweater · 11/04/2017 14:30

Thanks everyone for sharing their birth plans. Helped me flesh mine out a bit - lots of things I knew I wanted but like fox didn't think to put on there - mainly peace and quiet, intermittent foetal monitoring only, delayed cord clamping

lucieloos · 11/04/2017 14:34

Rustler, yes we have done 14 hours of nct courses and we were booked onto the NHS parentcraft course too which was another 8 hours worth but we cancelled at the last minute as we couldn't face anymore courses. I told the midwife today and she said because they assume you have been on the parentcraft course they don't go over anything themselves. We covered a lot of stuff on nct and I don't imagine there is anything the NHS would cover that we haven't already done so I feel pretty confident that I know what I do and don't want in relation to pain relief, birthing positions etc etc I just kind of expected the midwife to go through a plan and produce some sort of document but now I see that's up to me which is fine as I've had chance to look on google now and can see there are plenty of templates available which should guide us through.

Raspberry, hope baby has started to turn this afternoon.

savagehk · 11/04/2017 14:37

Here they have a 40+10 appointment where you discuss things - until then they don't discuss it really. They will probably offer you a sweep at that appointment. I did have attempted sweeps but they were unsuccessful as my cervix wasn't ready yet. I had a 'successful' one the day I went into labour (although by then I'd probably have gone on my own anyway). Other areas get twitchy sooner, in particular Scotland seems to have lost the plot lately regarding "overdueness". It's worth mentioning you think the dates are wrong, they may pay attention (or they may not!)

BouncingBlueberry · 11/04/2017 15:31

@lucieloos I went to the NHS classes and then this afternoon I went to a "headstart" breast feeding class also NHS. Both sets of information conflicted each other even though they are supposed to be working together.

Walkerbean16 · 11/04/2017 15:36

Hi everyone, ive been following all the threads (you are a chatty lot! I joined on here as due 1st of june, but the june board is pretty much non-existant! They have moved on one page in the time you lot have filled up 3 or 4 threads!!!) but not much to report here.

Ive just got back from 34 week check and midwife is referring me for a growth scan as bump is measuring small. So will hopefully get a call this week to go in (DH and kids go away to Cyprus next week so fingers crossed its before then!)

Hope you are all well! Smile

Walkerbean16 · 11/04/2017 15:37

Feeling a bit left out, we were never offered any antenatal classes, they stopped doing them in our area and have some youtube videos to watch instead which is a bit rubbish!

1004Rise · 11/04/2017 15:38

@savagehk hmmm not liking the sound of the Scottish overzealousness. My midwife up here is really good and very much on the side of baby will come when s/he is ready and the less interventions you have the better, so I want to get my plan including things like inductions discussed with her before we move and I end up with different midwives with different thoughts! Although I do get the advantage of a MLU so hoping they'll be accepting of leaving me alone Wink

MrsJW15 · 11/04/2017 15:53

Thanks for all the birth plan thoughts - I need a way to save all of these and get DH to sit down and do this over the weekend. I suspect like many of you we will show up and they will expect us to have a plan rather than anything else. Although my notes have a checklist of things they need to have checked with us. One is the vitamin k injection - any reason to decline that?

Don't know what to think about induction Rise - my NCT teacher was very opposed, on the basis that usually you are not ready, but I know if we are two weeks over due I will be so impatient.

Nappy bin arrived today. Not the most exciting purchase but one more thing!

savagehk · 11/04/2017 16:11

I need to have another look at the Vit K evidence. We had it last time, but the likelihood of needing it is minute. You can usually opt for drops instead but they need to be given more than once. Sara Wickham has some commentary on it. Basically if you give the injection it's pretty certain your baby will not suffer the bleeding condition it's given to prevent, it's just whether or not giving the injection could result in other issues. I had a leaflet last time but apparently all the info is now online, so need to have a look.

Walker I'm due 29 May and am only 33w +1. Did you have your 34w appt a week early? I'm worried now my dates are wrong or something...

teainbed · 11/04/2017 16:24

savage what do you mean 'lost the plot'? I'm in Scotland and the guidelines sound similar i.e. Midwife at 41+ weeks for discussion about options, offer sweep, induction offered from 42 weeks or daily monitoring.

teainbed · 11/04/2017 16:31

Well I have had an interesting day at the hospital. Scan for liquor volume which was fine. CTG initially a bit sluggish but eventually the baby woke up with some repositioning and cold water and poking so that was fine. BP and urine were fine.

But my insulin requirements have started to go down. I've had a lot more hypos which I had attributed to finishing work and being a bit more active, I wasn't concerned as i was told I'd need to see a 30% drop in insulin requirements before anyone got worried.

But then today's Consultant said to email in my numbers on Thursday and if the hadn't changed or were any worse I was to get induced this weekend! Shock I felt a bit flustered and left but now I'm home and I'm wondering what the next few days have in store for me. The concern is if your insulin requirements drop that your placenta is failing. Sad

teainbed · 11/04/2017 16:32

Welcome walker.

savagehk · 11/04/2017 16:36

teainbed there's been a few ladies on a homebirth FB group in Scotland where they are now refusing to attend homebirth post 41 weeks rather than 42. Seems to be a new thing. Perhaps they are still happy if you intend to go to MLU/hospital or perhaps it's some trusts only. There are also a few trusts (not just in Scotland) who seem to have decided baby must be delivered by 42 weeks so, as induction could take a few days, they start you off a few days before 42 weeks.

Just had a bit of a shocking conversation with colleague - she asked how much longer I was working and when I said three 4-day weeks after this one (which takes me up to 38 weeks) she said - you're really pushing it, you need to rest, you'll be in big trouble if it turns into pre eclampsia because you worked so long!

I am Shock at the cheek, but also a bit panicky and upset now... Someone tell me it's nonsense please!

savagehk · 11/04/2017 17:13

Cox, I worked to 40 weeks last time and intend to do same this time. I don't think pre eclampsia has anything at all to do with working! See www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/pre-eclampsia-pregnant.aspx

1004Rise · 11/04/2017 17:14

@teainbed ooooo that's potentially a bit of a shock!!

1004Rise · 11/04/2017 17:16

@coxsorangepippin I'm working til up to 38 weeks too, that's a really random comment from your colleague Confused

coxsorangepippin · 11/04/2017 17:18

Thank you rise and savage I know I would have taken no account of it if i wasn't a bit overemotional with all the hormones!

Badgerbird · 11/04/2017 17:27

On my way to a couple of hours of paid market research on maternity wear. Should be interesting!

cox just ignore her! Seems everyone has a bloody opinion once you're up the duff!!

Grin giving birth in the kitchen fox!! My DH has mostly been worried about the weight of them once water is in but mw says not to worry. I've had a quick look online but got confused! I have no idea how much they are more or less, any idea please? My mw says birth plan discussion 36 wks.

Loving the babygrow newbie!!

lullaby thanks for sharing your BP. savage that's really helpful thanks as hoping for hb here too.
