Growth scan and consultant today. Curious to see baby again and to know what I measure? Different trust than last time so I'm not sure if we will get a photo. If we don't, no pressure from parents as they don't know we are going for a scan today. They're always a bit offended when we tell them to stop guesstimating! Talking of old wives tales!

I'm loving all the cat photos! They are all gorgeous. I see I'm not the only one slightly worried about the reaction to a new baby. Mine is a massive diva who hates loud noises so we'll see how the baby goes down! I'm thinking of getting a cat net for the cot although going to try to keep them separate as much as I can at the beginning.

ClaireSunflower · 09/03/2017 06:57

Good luck with the scan rustler I hope all is well and will be nice to see the baby again!

Adventuregame · 09/03/2017 07:17

I know we've discussed this before but will a 0-6 month sleeping bag be necessary or as it'll be summer is it better to use sheet/blanket ? If using a sleep bag in Moses basket do you still have to put baby's feet at foot of basket ?

KLane · 09/03/2017 07:23

So many gorgeous cats!! Is anyone trying to get them accustomed to the sounds and smells of a baby yet? Our vet recommended playing baby cries from YouTube, starting on a very low volume and going up a little each week. Haven't gotten around to doing it, but we are really worried as after a bad experience with a few rowdy toddlers as kittens, they're completely terrified of children! Our vet also recommended Zylkene for the few weeks before and few weeks after the birth, but I need to do some more research into that.

Adventure in my opinion sleeping bags are much easier than blankets, so would recommend getting a summer tog one for when it's warm. Mainly because you can lift the baby out, feed it, and stick it back in still in a bag, whereas with blankets you risk waking them up as you recover them.

Rustler74 · 09/03/2017 07:54

Thank you Esmesbees I'd been wondering about that too! I have a few swaddling blankets for in the Moses basket but you just never know whether they'll like being in it. I'll see how it goes but I may put a few grobags on JL list

Another vote for sleeping bag here

Badgerbird · 09/03/2017 08:22

So wrote a big post last night checking up on peeps and asking questions then phone ran out of battery and lost it! Doh!

Loving the fur baby pics!!!! sanity your one cracked me up, looks like ours did. We called that "doing ears" at you Grin Our last fur baby left us at 16 years old bless her.

Barnes I had a growth scan on Mon at 28+3 after reduced movement. Smaller head, longer legs (I'm 5'2, DH 6'4!) I can post pic of graph on here if that helps? Just let me know.

mrspage that is utterly adorable!!! I would love a doggy snuggle like that.... so want a dog...

Hope scan and appointment goes well today rustler. Did you work out how to use the app with responding etc now?

Can't remember who asked now but the NHS breathing and relaxation class went really well, def recommend it! Tbh we cover a lot of what she talked about and showed us in pregnancy Pilates and yoga but good to get different ideas and expertise.

1004Rise · 09/03/2017 08:22

Thanks for the tips on nighties folks, my baby brain is clearly on full throttle not being able to think of anywhere. Confused

I've just had my illusion smashed, my friend was exactly 10 weeks ahead of me in pregnancy so her due date was yesterday. Waters broke yesterday morning and she delivered early evening.... apparently first babies do turn up on their due date eeek!!

Loving the cat pictures, ours is a bit of a wanderer and disappears for days on end... think he has a list of houses he works his way around them. He seems completely unbothered about being kicked by bump, the dogs know something is up. But I'm not sure if that's more because I slowed down on walks Blush I bought a book on how to introduce your dogs to baby because it had a cd with baby noises only to then remember we have no CD player anymore so now I keep forgetting to download them from the website ConfusedBlush

Adventure I bought a gro swaddle (because it was half price) rather than a 0-6 sleeping bag, thinking it would be a bit more flexible depending on the size of the baby. It surprised me how little then need to wear in them compared to blankets Shock but we have gro bags on the JL list.

WishIWasSleeping · 09/03/2017 08:30

For those of you in groups or have a few pregnant friends, I thought this picture was beautiful! It's taken from the link I posted the other day with bump pics in it.
Had an bloomin uncomfortable night last night... really need to do my research and find someone to sort my pains out for these last few weeks!
Hope you all have a fab Thursday! xx

Also rubbish nights sleep here. Got up to change position or pee every 1.5 hours. Angry

I've always done the double layer thing for breastfeeding in public, vest top with adjustable straps or breastfeeding vest with a normal top over it. Pull up normal top leaving tummy covered in vest. Pull down vest or clips to expose boob.

savagehk · 09/03/2017 09:00

The breastfeeding in public thing - if you have suitable bf tops and bras/vests you can feed without anyone seeing anything really. You can also use a cover (muslins are good, or a lightweight scarf, or there are specially designed bf covers, but IMO they make you stand out more!!).

I never got the 'pull down the vest' thing though although I know it works for some, I always used bf specific tops at first which have more than one piece of fabric so essentially everything is covered except your nipple, which baby is busy covering!

Top tip: the Seraphine stuff is lovely, but rather impractical with a newborn. Plain colours show up wet patches and milk leakage, so prints are probably better. I have had good use out of the Seraphine stuff for older babies (and indeed now in this pregnancy too!), but consider carefully whether anything is likely to be practical before buying.

teainbed · 09/03/2017 09:09

I never bother with breastfeeding tops or pyjamas, there's always complicated extra flaps of fabric everywhere, they're impossible to iron and I want to get back into my own clothes anyway! Grin

savagehk · 09/03/2017 09:25

Iron?! Iron? That's your first problem :D

There's also the two-top option, one goes down the other up. Or a www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=breastfeeding+belly+band&*

peasandquiet · 09/03/2017 09:27

Those chatting about sleeping bags, I found yestersay on mothercare that Gro make a GroSnug which is a swaddle / sleeping bag hybrid for newborns. They do a light which will be perfect for our late spring babies. I'd be buying two if I didn't already have 3 swaddle wraps and 5 sleeping bags for 0-6months Blush
Hope everyone is ok, I'm still knackered the whole time and hips are getting worse all the time. Moan moan moan that's me!!

1004Rise · 09/03/2017 10:03

Tea iron?? Is that what the piece of modern art in my cupboard is Hmm I am oh so very grateful that my DH is much better at such things than me Grin

Peas the grow snug is what I bought.... in the shop they were reduced but seem to be full price online Hmm

The wrap consultant at Mothercare assured me it was possible to breastfeed baby while they were in a stretchy wrap.... this sounded like a win win situation to me.... obviously need practice but sounds genius!

MrsJW15 · 09/03/2017 10:45

Rise that does sound ideal. I still need to find the right kind of wrap to do that. I'm sort of hoping that my NCT classes may suggest slingmeets nearby. Or that someone will just tell me what to buy!

Very uncomfortable hip again today - I'm sure it's PGP again and I need to call the physio. I'm also getting some twinges very low down which is not fun.

peasandquiet · 09/03/2017 10:59

I have three slings, a stretchy wrap, a rocking baby pouch and a Tula Carrier. You'll get the longevity out of a proper carrier but a stretch wrap or a pouch is better for when they are tiny. You can buy stretchy wraps pretty cheap on Amazon/eBay in lots of diff colours so I'd start with one of those and work your way up to someone more expensive if you and the baby like the sling thing, it's not for all mummies and or babies!

Badgerbird · 09/03/2017 11:09

I know it's been around ages but gets me every time! Grin

EsmesBees · 09/03/2017 11:09

GroSnugs go for a song on FB and eBay. I got mine for £8. It's the sort of thing that is worth getting cheap if you can as it will be used for so little time.

You can indeed feed in a stretchy wrap, and in more structured carriers too. I fed in both my close caboo and my Manduca.

These breastfeeding tops were my favourite. They look like normal vests but with two holes for your boobs: www.rootitooti.co.uk

peasandquiet · 09/03/2017 11:11

Rise which shop were they discounted in? Smile

savagehk · 09/03/2017 11:14

mrsJW I didn't find feeding in a stretchy that great, I tied the stretchy pretty tight for support so baby was pretty secure in it, and to feed in it I'd have had to loosen it quite a bit which sort of defeats the point. I had a more pouch-style one at first too which was possible to feed in but not as comfortable (or as safe) as the stretchy. I had a Je Porte Maman Bebe first time (but not the newer, cheaper one, the two-way stretch one); others I'd looked into this time before my original came back to me after a loan were the Hana baby or the Moby (I prefer organic cotton, and ideally 2 way stretch as it lasts a bit longer). Victoria Sling Lady was also a good brand last time but not two way stretch (or organic) but cheap if you want to try out. Still a good idea to go to a meet (or perhaps the NCT leader can help demonstrate!) so you learn how to tie it as it looks complicated but really isn't.

1004Rise · 09/03/2017 11:16

Doi in mothercare peas it was about £8 in store, when I checked online at the weekend they were full price Confused

nursebickypegs · 09/03/2017 11:17

@newbieho @EsmesBees I'm going to get some feliway this week actually! They are good little girls, just tend to play a lot and it leaves masses of black fur everywhere. We have a tutti bambini crib, which FurBaby1 got into one night for a sleep. Typical. I've got a chicco next to me crib for when Bub comes home as I was convinced that one of the cats would send the Moses basket flying across the house. Might try playing the crying baby noises and see the reaction! Furbaby 1 hates fireworks, the hoover, things falling over while Furbaby 2 sits on the hoover while hoovering...

Love all this talk about BF. I've packed some formula in my bag, and my breast pump. I'm really confused about what to do with feeding and what's best. I'm so conscious about feeding in public as I'm so body shy, and I also want my DH to be able to feed baby as well.
