Sanity my recollection of this all is rubbish clearly but I get the impression that my baby can still do full somersaults and lie in all sorts of positions. But I think eventually it did settle a bit later on but still got lots of kicks right up to the end.....

savagehk · 07/03/2017 09:29

missmoomoo not at the time (if the nurse/midwife/doctor is good at jabs anyway ;) ) but you'll have a bit of a bruised feeling to the arm for about a day after in my experience. You might also be a bit tired this afternoon.

vanilla8 · 07/03/2017 09:48

Morning all,

Have a stinking head cold and what's worse is when I blow my nose lots of blood from the dreaded nosebleeds that haven't seemed to disappear either!
Seemed to be getting out of puff abit more yesterday, and waddling!

1004Rise · 07/03/2017 09:52

Savage yes it does, which is the only way I can sit at my desk.... there is no dignity in pregnancy Confused

Rustler I know, it's amazing how low the bf rates are in the U.K., I definitely think it has a lot to do with acceptance in public places and the "shame" we seem to attach to getting your boobs out. When I was first pregnant I was adamant that there is no way I'd do it in public, fortunately I'm coming round to the idea or I'd never be able to leave the house... seriously encouraged by the sling consultant that assured me it's possible while baby is in the sling- just looks like s/he's sleeping.

We have our first ante-natal class today, all on feeding so it will be interesting to see what they say.

Sanity go prescribed me ranitidine for heartburn and told me I could still take gaviscon to help soothe it. As long as I didn't take it at the same time as my iron tablets. Feel a bit like my day is dictated to by tablet timing Hmm

Miss very jealous of you, keep enjoying not feeling it. You're obviously good at it Grin I had a sore arm for a couple of days after whooping cough jab, but it wasn't sore at the time.

Definitely feeling more tumble turn movements... felt like baby was trying to get out my belly button last night. Think s/he must now have their back to my front because the kicks now feel like echoes so I think s/he's kicking towards my back iyswim Hmm

SanitysSake · 07/03/2017 09:53

savagehk - Oh crikey, that entire bump-roll thing is also quite the shocker too! Don't think Im looking forward to more of that?!

As for the antacids - thanks for the recommendation. I will have to check out the Andrews thing. I have been dropping Gaviscon of an evening, but it really doesn't work for me. Give it 20 minutes and I'm back to where I was. I'm seeing the GP in a couple of days, so hopefully they can give me something else other than the recommendation to 'not drink tea or coffee'. I LIVE on tea! (Although admittedly not after 6pm)

lullaby23 · 07/03/2017 09:55

esme I was kind of hoping DS would be put off when milk changed to colostrum about 4/5 weeks ago but nope! Luckily he drinks plenty of cows milk & doesn't feed to sleep so I can be quite strict about prioritising the newborn - don't want him to start feeding more which apparently can happen.

Good luck to all with appointments today.

lullaby23 · 07/03/2017 09:57

sanity can the GP increase your dosage to get you through the rest of pregnancy? My sympathies, it's the worst.

PowerofThree · 07/03/2017 10:01

Miss my arm was sore for a few days after the whooping cough jab but not unbearably so. The nurse told me that I would definitely have a sore arm because I was up to date on my tetanus and (as whooping cough also includes tetanus) I was going to end up with an excess of tetanus antibodies and that would result in a sore arm. No idea if that is true!

My 28 wk bloods came back as showing slight anaemia so have been put on iron tablets. Hopefully, this explains why I have been getting exhausted every late afternoon even if I do nothing all day.... Only problem is that I have lost the tablets already!

I am another sofa hater (but only in the evenings when I suddenly get muscle aches all over) and another one with back/bum/thigh pain. I am going private for physio as, despite being referred months ago, the NHS antenatal physio team were impossible to get hold of to book into their group sessions so I have given up on them.

MissMooMoo · 07/03/2017 10:08

Thanks for the re assurance about the jab! I hate injections and I had whooping cough as a child so thought maybe I had anti bodies to it already but they have still advised to have it done so I will because I know its for baby.

I am also going to start taking iron tablets. Just dropped off the paper from the MW with my surgery so will start them on Friday when the perscription is ready.

Second NCT class tonight. Also have 5 weeks of work left, the countdown is on!

growcookeat · 07/03/2017 10:13

MW appt all fine. Bp normal and bloods came back fine from last appt. heard a nice clear heartbeat again and measurement has gone back to top line on chart from being slightly higher last time. MW confirmed baby is lying sideways but said not to worry until about 35/36 weeks.

Off to work now for a mammoth day of teaching then parents evening Sad

SanitysSake · 07/03/2017 10:37

lullaby23 - I have enough tablets in stock to double up myself, but sadly there is something that's not being 'sorted' by it. I have been doing some research and it does say in various publications, that outside of the initial dose of a proton pump inhibitor that over-the-counter remedies, like Zantac, actually do a better job of dealing with incidents 'over and above the initial problem' like heartburn. I shall buy a packet of Zantac today, prior to going to the GP to give it a try. No harm in trying, eh?

There is harm, however, when I've woken up in the middle of the night, my valve has opened (due to inadvertently slipping from my elevated sleeping position) and aspirating my own bile. Cue spending quite some time desperately trying to cough up what has been ingested in my lungs (which can lead to bacteria being introduced and pneumonia being developed). Not good when this far pregnant. Outside of this, it is also really bloomin' scary. Scared the hell out of the OH as I was flailing around the toilet bowl sounding like the girl in the exorcist at 03:30am!

Although in saying that, I'm very similar to that most mornings anyway!

So why are people all starting to take Iron tablets? Is everyone having problems with noted deficiency? Has this come up in your bloods or are you having symptoms? My M/W is incredibly hands off (read a little 'lax') and despite having a blood test for my Anti-D (I don't know what was tested for outside of the antibodies for the Anti-D), I've yet to have one recently. My next appointment isn't for a while, so now you've got me worried that I've missed something that I should really be paying attention to. Any advice appreciated. x

1004Rise · 07/03/2017 10:52

Sanity I got iron tablets because of a low haemoglobin count in my 28 week blood test. I thought being constantly tired and needing to sit down at the top of a flight of stairs because I was out of breath was just being pregnant Confused Iron tablets made a huge difference (DH says I'm useful again). Results for me came back really quickly, I think if you've heard nothing no news is good news Wink

savagehk · 07/03/2017 11:09

I've been recommended iron tablets at check in and following the 28 week appt. I declined the tablets and started taking spatone. There's evidence to suggest mild anaemia is normal in pregnancy and I think supplementation is too widespread (obviously if you are also tired or experiencing other symptoms, or if your levels are particularly low, some supplementation is needed). (I've just done some reading around this and was sceptical last pregnancy as well....)

Today the first mw said I needed to start taking tablets rather than spatone and she was going to ask the GP to prescribe (which I was probably going to ignore) but then the other mw came in and confirmed I was still above the 'cut off' for tablets (although not by much).

Unfortunately my platelets at the last test were high so they want to take more blood next appt to check they've come down, but apparently that's what they do if you're unwell, and I had that horrid lurgy last time I went so hopefully all OK. Nothing like pregnancy to make you feel like a pincushion.

MissMooMoo · 07/03/2017 11:14

The nurse was lovely and the injection so quick! Couldn't believe it, was easier than the flu shot.

I am taking the iron tablets due to low iron picked up in my 28 week bloods.

ShiniBerry · 07/03/2017 11:31

Another one with butter fingers here! Seems to just about drop everything. Also have to be pushed out of bed by DH or I look something like this!

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 07/03/2017 11:32

Morning all. Just popping back on as had lost the thread again!

I take Floradix for iron and B vitamins. It works wonders. I highly recommend, I really don't get on with iron tablets.
I was found to have low iron, b vitamins and vitamin D. And since starting it I have felt better and better.

Just had an appointment with the high risk team who have said they will probably induce me at 36/37 weeks. Scary in some ways, but exciting in others as I hopefully won't have to wait too long. :) This last trimester seems to go on and on...

Waves to everyone. C

MrsJW15 · 07/03/2017 11:38

Thanks Bean, that would make sense. It does get pretty uncomfortable in the evening going all hard, and I have to sort of lean on the ball!

Just done an amazing pregnancy yoga class with lots of relaxing. Feel much better now!

Brightsmoke · 07/03/2017 11:57

Not sure how true it is, but I heard if baby isn't head down, if you spend some time scrubbing the floor, or in the position, and movement, it can help get baby in the correct position, may be worth a try for those who are worried?

coxsorangepippin · 07/03/2017 12:08

sanity congrats, hope you have a lovely wedding day!

RedBlu · 07/03/2017 12:14

My movements vary but over the last couple of weeks the big rolls have started and they feel weird!

At the moment I believe she is facing inwards so I don't feel as much but still get the rolls. A couple of weeks ago she must have been right at the front as it was like she was trying to escape

savagehk · 07/03/2017 12:43

Forgot to say had a student mw in today too and she measured my bump first as 29 (should be 31, & I tend to be over that anyway). MW remeasured (and I made sure I was flat, rather than slightly inclined) and it was 31. She'd also taken my blood pressure reading and I see now that it was whatever/78; my baseline is normally 60 (!) but no-one commented.

KLane · 07/03/2017 13:33

I can't remember who brought up hiccups the other day but I've got some clarification. Baby has had hiccups for the last 3 mornings when I've woken up, and a few other times throughout the last few. I was a bit concerned that it was always first thing in the morning, that maybe it had something to do with my sleep position. Anyway, I called the midwife line just to check. She said that as long as the baby's movements are otherwise normal, there's no reason to be concerned. She didn't mention any time length or frequency to be concerned about, though I imagine it's within reason. However, if baby's movements are reduced, it's important to go in straight away to be checked.

On the upside, I always feel the hiccups really low down so hopefully this means baby is head down already!

FoxMulder · 07/03/2017 14:17

bean I didn't express. Didn't feel the need.

I can't sit reclined comfortably anymore, I have to lean forwards which makes relaxing impossible!

Are 31 week MW appointments just for first timers? I don't see mine until 34wks

savagehk · 07/03/2017 14:28

2nd timer here but I'm out of sync a bit I think! Either that or they are just defaulting to every 3 weeks here?

EsmesBees · 07/03/2017 14:33

I'm a second timer who gets a 31 wk appt. Think it depends on your local trust's policy.
