Barnes we had quite a few boys names we liked, but my other half definitely has his heart set on one which made thinking of any more a little pointless!

Sipperskipper · 09/01/2017 19:38

we have a couple of names that we like. Just not sure though. Had a definite boys name before we found out we were expecting a girl!

MissMooMoo · 09/01/2017 19:46

We have picked a boys name!
DH won't even discuss girls names, I think that he just REALLY wants a boy.
I have a list of girls names so if baby comes out a girl I will get him to pick one from the list I guess.

Barnes79 · 09/01/2017 19:47

Peas - I think I'm quite traditional but don't want anything really common. I used to like Thomas but know 2 friends with little boys called that. I liked Sebastian too (Seb for short) but the shortened name doesn't work with my surname.

PeachIcedT · 09/01/2017 19:50

We agreed very early on a girls name and boys name - now that we know what this little one is I can start saying her name out loud (when I'm on my own, trying to not be too crazy lady!). I think boys names are more difficult mainly as they don't really change as much as girls names seem to, or at least that's how it seems. But certainly lots of great ones out there.

growcookeat · 09/01/2017 19:52

That's really poor jugo! I hope you are able to give some feedback and the midwife helps you to feel more positive about things.

Missmoo we had our pram delivered to pil house as they have a spare room to store it in - our house is slightly chaotic right now as we cleared out the nursery to start decorating. No idea where we'll put it and the other bits which we're starting to order!

Also feeling movements all day now which is reassuring. Usually not much in the mornings - think this little one likes a lie in. I can see bits poking out now and again and then get a rush of nausea as baby does somersaults!

Raspberry like you, we don't have many friends in the area so went for the NCT classes over the NHS ones.

Also, would you mind adding my extra details onto the sheet? Not sure I can do it from my phone. Age 30 sex surprise location Leeds. Thanks!

RasperryInAMelon · 09/01/2017 19:56

I think we'll shortlist but won't decide on a name until she arrives.

I always remember that hideously my mum had planned on calling me Wendy but said I didn't 'look like' a Wendy when I arrived.

We need something to work with either of our chosen middle names and surname...

Suggestions to go ahead of Cossyra Burclaff or Mentana Burclaff anyone!?... Confused

RasperryInAMelon · 09/01/2017 19:59

Grow no probs, all done Smile

Tickyboovicki · 09/01/2017 20:23

Raspberry my mum said exactly the same, my brother was always going to be Matthew until then saw him, then all of a sudden he was a David! It's one of the reasons we agreed not to tell anyone the name we've chosen until he's born, but my other half told everyone and now I'm terrified we'll change our minds and everyone will keep calling him the original name Grin

peasandquiet · 09/01/2017 20:24

Barnes, I think we all get a bit hung up on overused names, I have a very popular 80's name and was always 'name a' at school and uni as there was always another one, it really hasn't ever bothered me so don't worry too much! Pick classic you love, James, Alexander, Samuel, Isaac ? (Ps Sebastian is lovely, such a shame seb doesn't work with your surname!)

halfbuffy · 09/01/2017 20:42

Ok all booked on to NCT now. Thanks for everyone's input on that! Gone the whole hog with the breastfeeding session as well...I really really want to be able to breastfeed...I know not everyone can and you don't find out until you're actually trying but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

20 week scan tomorrow so will be coming back with a gender update in the afternoon!

Tickyboovicki · 09/01/2017 21:08

Quick question, but does anyone know anywhere to get good quality (but not crazy expensive!) maternity workout clothes? My old stuff is now starting to become a little uncomfortable around my stomach!

Barnes79 · 09/01/2017 21:25

Peas - I'm also a very popular 70-80's name and was never bothered about it, but for some reason I don't want my DS to have too common a name (but equally don't want him to be named after a piece of fruit or a town, or to have an overly non-traditional non-English name, so no really American names either). My sister has 3 DS's, so with their first and middle names quite a few of the nice names have gone, plus I'm one of the last in my circle of friends to have a baby so they've used the nice names too.

It's funny isn't it, how as soon as I have one less thing to worry about (e.g. the 20w scan), I start worrying about something else (the name).Confused

Badgerbird · 09/01/2017 21:30

I loved seb too barnes, DH def didn't but we're having a girl so doesn't matter how! Strangely I called her Rosie the other day which made us giggle, it's not what we plan to call her but it's what we are calling her now. Better than Blob which is what we were calling her Shock

Ha ha I was one of those babies whose name got changed! My dad took one look at me and says "that's not Rachel, that's ......!" We are also planning on meeting our little one before deciding on a name :)

Fingers crossed your referral doesn't take weeks jw!!

fox sounds like a good idea, I remember it sounded like you had a really tough time the first few weeks/months of pregnancy. How are you faring now? Hope it helps :)

Autumnsweater · 09/01/2017 22:24

I have a girl's name all sorted but can't decide on a boys name at all, even though have been convinced from the start were having a boy.

Still totally baffled by the whole bottle thing. I would like to introduce some bottles (hopefully of expressed milk) once breastfeeding (hopefully) in place properly so husband can do some feeds. No idea what I need to get/why it is all so complicated/expensive.

MrsJW15 · 09/01/2017 22:26

Autumn I want to do the same. I've been trying to read up about it, and I'm hoping the NCT bf class will help too. It seems like it may be something you don't need to start for the first couple of weeks, so I may wait to buy things and see how bf goes.

1004Rise · 09/01/2017 22:31

Boys names are definitely harder, the only thing we know is if it's a boy it won't be called John as both Grandads are John and he would have an uncle John too!!!

Whether it's a boy or a girl it will have my maiden name as a middle name (bit of a tradition) so at least we only have to pick one name. Smile

I'm intrigued by the hypo birthing, but also sceptical... doubt I'll find classes up here but maybe investigate the cds.

Also no NCT classes available within a reasonable driving distance (i.e. Less than 3 hours) so we'll just have to hope the NHS ones are good enough Grin

Autumnsweater · 09/01/2017 22:43

Good point Mrs I guess I see how we go.

Should we have something in for emergencies if breastfeeding going disastrously? Or do we need to wait it out a bit?

I'm not doing NCT classes, I know a few people who are due same time as me anyway, and have heard our local one has a massive natural/home birth bias.

Autumnsweater · 09/01/2017 22:44

rise lovely way to do the middle name!

INeedNewShoes · 09/01/2017 22:51

Autumn - I've got a similar plan re giving bottled expressed milk for one feed a day after 4 weeks. I think all we actually need is a breast pump (I'm going for a manual Lansinoh: £30), a bottle (all pumps come with at least one) and some means of sterilising the bottles. For one bottle a day buying a whizzy electric steriliser is probably overkill so one of the cheap ones will do. If I end up formula feeding I'll obviously need a lot more bottles.

I was shocked to see the starter kits on Mothercare website that are well over £100!

Northernexile · 09/01/2017 23:45

I'm stuck on both girls and boys names. For some reason it's harder this time round, I have 2 DDs so also need a name that 'goes', and I'm stumped.

I introduced one bottle after 5 or 6 weeks last time and it worked well. The idea is to wait until bf is established but before they become a full-on bottle refuser I believe. It can be hard finding a bottle that they like though and it can be a bit trial and error! You definitely won't need loads of kit if you are just planning one bottle of ebm a day.

lullaby23 · 10/01/2017 02:13

DS has a popular name but I love it and it suits him. One of the names mentioned above is his middle name Smile I have a favourite name for DD but we're not 100% decided yet and will make sure it suits her once she arrives. I find girls names much easier too. We are probably giving her two middle names (one from each side of the family) as will be the last baby.

Difficult to give specific advise on BFing as how you get on and how your baby latches is hard to predict. What I would say is try and find a lactation consultant (IBCLC qualified) in your area that you can contact after the birth if you have issues preferably one who can do home visits. I saw a lovely lady when still in hospital as I had a meltdown about not being able to feed and she calmed me down and helped with positioning. Then followed up at a baby clinic every couple of weeks.

I'm afraid it was on/off painful for me for about 8 weeks I do have sensitive nipples at the best of time and it got a lot easier once DS could physically open his mouth wider. The main reason I kept going was pig headedness I was absolutely determined to BF. Partly this is because in Singapore formula is so expensive (I reckon at least 2.5 times higher than UK) and we had just gone down to one salary so it wasn't a cost we could afford. If we had a 24 hour Tesco round the corner it might have been a different story. Hoping it will be easier this time and DS hasn't stopped yet so boobs should know what to do!

I would recommend an electric pump as manual ones will get tiring if you're using every day. Microwave sterilising bags to save space, each one can be used 10 times. Milk storage bags (can be attached to pump instead of bottle) if you're planning to build up a freezer stash for going back to work. Breast pads definitely I leaked for months, Lansinoh (again!) ultra slim were my favourite. We were recommended not to use reusable ones here because of the humid climate but i know they can be great too.
