Little babies are really portable. Especially if you can get the train. It gets harder the older they get and you have to pack your own weight in snacks and toys for the journey. So don't worry about the travelling aspect raspberry. It is unreasonable that people are not willing to travel to you. But that's their choice, and I'd think it's them that will be missing out on time with you and your lovely new baby.

savagehk · 21/11/2016 09:35

Raspberry ah, ok. Sounds like they're just being unreasonable! Do they come visit you now, or do you always visit them? (Although, as I've said, little babies are more portable than older ones!)

Re groups etc, you can start those once baby arrives, doesn't have to be beforehand. Might be worth seeing if there's an NCT group near you that does weekends instead of evenings?

(Also, you're allowed time off work for pregnancy-related stuff, including relaxation classes etc. Worth checking your employer's policy on this, there might be one nearby during lunch or similar? I did manage an antenatal swimming class about twice which was really nice, especially later when your bump is big and heavy, the water makes it all lighter!)

Streaky17 · 21/11/2016 11:19

nervous thanks for the exercise tips from your appt! I've toned down what I'm doing in classes and the weights used so it sounds like I'm on the right track.

My folic acid prescription is 28days but with repeats. One of the things I need to talk to the midwife about next week.
Is pre-eclampsia more common with multiples?

Agree with the choice of prams - too much! So I'm glad I'm limited to about 5 options!

I heard the head of the 30min car seat rule study on the radio when it came out - he sort of said (i could easily have misunderstood) that the angle a car seat is at in the car is steeper than when it's out of the car. Not being familiar with car seats is this true or are babies always at the same angle in them?

raspberry I hope you are feeling less stressed today and your oh sounds lovely! If you think you are going to feel isolated afterwards taking action with clubs/groups before is probably best! I'm not great at making friends either. Also how you described your friend did sound like she was a b*@#£ but it may have come across differently than she meant? BTW What sort of dogs do you have?

Sonnet18 · 21/11/2016 11:46

Anyone else not told their boss yet? I'm nearly 16 weeks and still not told him! Contemplating doing it at some point today...or may wait another few days!

savagehk · 21/11/2016 12:03

Told mine day after scan (same as last time). I'm showing already though so rather necessary!

lullaby23 · 21/11/2016 12:09

esme totally agree on BFing, it was tough to begin with but so easy and worth it once we got the hang of it.

peas I had the sleepyhead / snuzpod combo and it worked great until DS was 6 or 7 months and he went in the big cot. You need to have one side down to fit it in so it does need to be tethered to your bed.

Sorry to hear about the fall and UTI hope you're both feeling better soon.

Having a minor wobble here, clinic called to say they need to take blood again for the Panorama test as the first sample didn't work. I know it's most likely because I'm overweight but I stupidly googled and found some stat saying it's 13% more likely there are abnormalities if they can't get results Sad Going back tomorrow then need to reset the TWW for results again. Starting to wish I went for the Harmony as it worked fine for me last time Confused

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 21/11/2016 12:34

Has everyone told friends, family and work? I'm still waiting for a phone call (or rather hopefully no phone call as they will only ring if I'm found high risk). I'm really fed up waiting.

I did tell my director and a colleague unofficially last Friday as we were planning staff workload for the year ahead. I felt bad and kind of deceiving if I said I'd be able to look after projects next summer when I know I blatantly can't. I just blurted my news. They seemed genuinely happy for me.

teainbed · 21/11/2016 12:39

Raspberry once the baby is here everyone will be desperate to see you and will come and visit. Glad you're feeling better. It's easy to say try not to worry in advance but it really isn't worth worrying just now! And as for the stuff, there is so much out there, once you've done antenatal classes you'll have a few people to meet up with and after the baby comes the health visitor will probably point you in the direction of whatever is available locally.

teainbed · 21/11/2016 12:42

Fingers crossed for you lullaby.

Anyone who needs work trousers I'm wearing Gap under bump slim leg ones today and they are seriously comfortable and flattering! Not sure how how long they'll be ok for but as they're under bump hopefully this trimester at least.

Flingmoo · 21/11/2016 12:43

I have told everyone at work now I've had my 12 week scan. I actually found it kind of awkward telling people as I'm really paranoid about hurting people's feelings or boring people. My boss is in her 40s and childless so I'm wondering if she's infertile or whether she chose not to have kids, I'm probably overthinking it but I don't know. My younger colleagues I'm thinking they will not really care about the news as they're not interested in babies/family stuff and seem to chat more about going out drinking and having hangovers etc...

I've been really breathless climbing the three floors of stairs at work but I don't want to use the lift as I get hardly any exercise so going up the stairs is my one little bit of exercise at work! I was worried I'm really out of shape all of a sudden but I googled it and it turns out it's just normal physiological changes during pregnancy. Phew. Info about breathlessness here if anyone else has had it.

Rasperry Your friends sound mean, London-Wiltshire is not that far, some people commute it every day! Surely no one is so busy they can't spare one weekend to pop over and see you when baby arrives? Could there be something else going on? Seems odd to me... Maybe they really don't like babies, or they're struggling to conceive themselves? Or even expecting a baby themselves and haven't told anyone yet?!

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 21/11/2016 12:51

Oooh and I just received a letter from the hospital, they said if it's low risk the wait is two weeks so my legs cut off when I saw the stamp (my scan was only last Thursday). Low risk. So relieved. Can't wait to tell my toddler when he comes home from nursery. Any tips how to break the news to him?

Aaand breathe.

savagehk · 21/11/2016 12:54

ImYourWoman waiting for my letter too but they did say here if it was high risk they'd call within a week, if low risk they'd post a letter within 2 weeks.

My toddler was rather unamused. He's happier now that we've explained the baby won't go to nursery at the same time as him (someone's clearly got an annoying younger sibling at nursery!) and that he won't have to change any smelly nappies.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 21/11/2016 12:57

raspberry don't want to downplay your concerns as your family and friends do sound rather unsupportive to say the least. But pregnancy is time when hormones run roit too and things get a bit overwhelming and out of proportion. You will find your own way once the baby is there I promise you and you will rely on local support of others parents and facilities much more than family if they live some distance away.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 21/11/2016 12:59

savage ha that is funny. I didn't even consider he may not appreciate the news.

Barnes79 · 21/11/2016 13:58

My sister told my neice and nephews. The second youngest (4yrs old) is upset as he thinks it will be a girl (and he wants a boy) whilst the youngest (3yrs old) is disappointed he can't grow a baby in his tummy and wants it to be a superhero called Arthur, but isn't sure what power it should have. I fear he may be disappointed even more when it's not a superhero... ha ha

littleem89 · 21/11/2016 14:04

Haven't posted on here for a while. You may remember I was having a cvs test as my husband had a genetic family history. The results came through today and all is clear. So overwhelmed and relieved as the wait has been horrendous. I now feel I can start to enjoy my pregnancy!

newbieho · 21/11/2016 14:21

Congratulations littleem!

RasperryInAMelon · 21/11/2016 14:30

Gosh it's been busy here today!

Sonnet I think that's a great idea - whats the name of the DVD you have?

I do have some really positive things and my friends and family are great, they truly are, I understand that everyone has their own thing going on, some have jobs, some have kids, some don't drive etc. It's just as I say, it's always us doing the travelling.

I quite like your idea of the friendly Facebook post too - might have a look at options and wording Smile

Savage it's always been me travelling, I guess looking at from a slightly calmer outlook - I chose to move away, so I go to visit them. But it would be nice to have some visitors here and there.

Streaky I feel bad that I've put her across in that light because she's a truly lovely girl with the warmest heart and I know that she has recently settled in a relatively new relationship and things are changing for her at the moment. I truly love her to bits and have been good friends with her for many years now.

Not my dogs - my dads, English Springer Spaniel working dogs so they can't be left alone over night.

Thank you so much to everyone else for your lovely words of wisdom (again) I'm sorry I'm such a worrier...

LittleEm! I'm sooooo pleased for you both! I knew there would be nothing to worry about. You and KS must be over the moon! Really looking forward to seeing you and the family this weekend!

Autumnsweater · 21/11/2016 14:33

I had to tell work - both the bosses and immediate colleagues - as soon as I found out due to health and safety concerns (work in a medical environment so exposure to x-rays, anaesthetic gases, chemotherapy etc etc). So they've known from 6 weeks, bit nerve wracking but we're all used to knowing about each others pregnancies early.

WishIWasSleeping · 21/11/2016 15:26

Wow. That's taken me the best part of the day to catch up on and off and I only went away for the weekend!
I'll be looking into a sling this time too. I was content to hold and carry my first, but as she's only 10m I'm still using the pushchair for her and we planned on using it again and I still really love the carrycot section so I'm torn! Pretty sure I'll probably need a double.. Confused
She'll be in a bigger car seat by the time new baby arrives so at least that's not an issue. Space in the car might be though!
I've been put onto daily aspirin as I suffered from high BP at the end of last pregnancy, I'm shocked with how much it's brought the readings down to be honest!
Right off to check the screen shots I took for the slings and trousers as I couldn't possibly remember 3 days worth of posts!
Happy Monday everyone. Grin

savagehk · 21/11/2016 16:35

WishIWas if you have two that close together I think you'll find a sling a godsend!

With doubles, the easier ones are ones where the one child is underneath the other (Phil & Ted's?) - the ones where they are side by side are quite wide and so a pain in shops etc (so say my friends with two, anyway :) ).

Congratulations littleem - must be a huge relief!

1004Rise · 21/11/2016 17:06

So I told work today, all a little bizzare as I have to do it over the phone, but at least now I can be honest about not going to workshops in India in the new year Smile Told family and friends last week so I think I can relax a bit more now everyone knows!

Thanks for the sling advice and Stationery for the link.... I have no idea any of this stuff exists! Grin

Sonnet18 · 21/11/2016 18:11

raspberry it's a yogabellies DVD. They also do classes in my local area but I didn't bother as I enjoyed the easiness of doing the DVD from home. It's just a 45 minute session so not too time consuming. I got a used one on Amazon for £5. I bought another one (forgot the name) but you had to be yoga expert to do even the most basic of moves! I promptly chucked that one!
Google yogabellies for more info- the girl is really good. The "studio" they're in is a bit basic and there's no fancy equipment but that didn't put me off!

EsmesBees · 21/11/2016 18:47

Speaking of double buggies, does anyone have any recommendations? I'll have just over a two year gap and it will need to be London transport friendly. Might post on the pushchairs board too.

WishIWasSleeping · 21/11/2016 19:46

There's a pushchair board! Shock
That's my evening sorted when this rascal goes to bed if I can stay awake long enough!
