This will be dc2. Edd of July 2nd.

Not one symptom yet. Going to enjoy that and hope it lasts!

Yeah internal scans are fine, no one likes the intrusion but it means getting to be your bean it's worth it :)

whycanineverthinkofausername · 22/11/2016 11:36

Internal scans are fine they are slightly uncomfortable at points but that's it. Last time I went I didn't realise I was having an internal as well (for pcos) and didn't shave my legs. I was also wearing incredibly comfortable pants ifyouknowwhatimean and was mortified when I had to strip with awful pants and full on chewbacca legs, so be warned they don't leave the room!

OohNo Hope your midwife appointment goes well.

Luci and Knitting Congrats on your scans and all looking great.

Mouse I also am not craving any alcohol. I don’t even miss it. But then I am so nauseous that I don’t really want anything. DH had a pint of beer at his parents and he smelled like a greasy pub carpet. I don’t remember ever picking up such smells before. However, Like Rum I wouldn’t mind a baileys

Rum Don’t bother with excuses. Everyone knows that it has been proven that antibiotics are not affected by alcohol. Just get a small glass of wine/or gin and tonic(without the gin) and nurse it all evening. I had glass of wine on the table at a work do a week ago and never even touched it. Nobody noticed. I did however, make frequent visit to the bar and drank water there to keep hydrated.

Oh no Damson that is a rubbish start to your day. Hope all is goes well with the scan at EPU. I have been lucky that I have not been sick yet but always on the verge though. I am also not swallowing my saliva; I think if I did I will be sick.

My internal scan at 5+1 was ok. Even with Chewbacca legs I doubt the sonographer saw them. She had turned the lights down anyway so you couldn’t see anything apart from the screens. I found it to be very comfortable, better than the speculum during a smear test.

Popularcontrarian · 22/11/2016 12:02

Wait til you're at the stage of sweeps ladies! internals will be a walk in the park in comparison Grin

thumbsupforthesixbillion · 22/11/2016 12:08

I hope my scan at 9+6 doesn't have to be internal, this is exactly the kind of thing I will find really triggering.

For those that have been there before, how many internal examinations of this sort do you think I will need and which ones are avoidable? I'll talk to the midwife obviously but starting to feel really anxious.

Seahawk80 · 22/11/2016 12:14

Sorry you feel so rubbish Damson hopefully it's a really good sign though!

OohNoDooEy · 22/11/2016 12:25

Thumbs I had a scan at 9 weeks last time and it was external. A glass of water before you leave so you have a full bladder & you should be fine

Knittinggurl · 22/11/2016 12:29

Good luck with your scan Damson!

Just to add my tuppence worth re the Harmony test, I'm having it at 10 weeks, so that will be before I've had the NHS screening at 12 weeks. We're doing it because I am 38 and we just feel that we want to have the best information we can get. So it's the higher certainty factor that makes it appealing (plus the fact that it's early). If the NHS screening subsequently comes back low risk I guess might feel I could have done without it and saved the cash but that's what my OH calls a high quality problem to have!

purplebella · 22/11/2016 12:40

Oh god the sweeps! I watched a calf being born in a programme I was watching, made me cringe!

fluffandsnuff · 22/11/2016 13:00

Thumbs- never had an internal exam with DC1 so that takes you to at least 39 weeks! The others will have to tell you about the birth bit as I had an elective section (breech)

I've been feeling horrendous since Saturday. Have pain in my stomach and ribs, tired all the time, splitting headache last night, feel sick and cold all the time. Poor DS must be wondering what the hell is going on and why he's allowed to watch the kindle all day!

Seahawk80 · 22/11/2016 13:18

I decided to have harmony, there were 3 things that swung it. 1 and 2 were timing related as I think my 12 week scan may well fall after Xmas and therefore after 12 weeks. I wanted the peace of mind before Christmas and I didn't want to be having further tests and then facing a termination at 14 weeks plus. Also come January I'll be working almost every day, it would be the worst time possible for tests etc.

The other thing was the 99% certainty, I'm 35 so not that old but old enough for increased risk.

It is a lot of money though so I know it's a hard decision. I almost didn't go for it but what swung it for me was a post by someone who found out at 11 weeks that her baby had downs and was unlikely to survive. She was glad she'd found out then rather than 2/3-4 weeks down the line.

CatRash · 22/11/2016 13:21

Afternoon all, I'm still fairly symptomless - bloating and heartburn have subsided - still hit mild cramps, back ache and no appetite though!

Rum - I'm off for my first girls night out since finding out I'm pregnant this Friday and I'm planning on driving so no one questions it. If they try the whole 'but you can have one's line I'll just say I had a G&T at home.

I'm worried about our Xmas party at work although I have a month to think of a plan. It's a whole day affair and the booze usually starts flowing at 9am with a free bar 12pm-9pm so drinking is expected and highly encouraged. Driving can't be used as an excuse as they put on buses too! Think I will pretend to drink - buy small lemonades and pretend they have vodka in - might even have a quiet word with a barman.

Alternatively i just encourage everyone else to get really smashed so they don't notice I'm not drinking.

Or, as I'll be almost 10 weeks by then I might confide in my closet work colleague so she can be my alibi!

Interested to hear others plans!!

Popularcontrarian · 22/11/2016 14:37

I'm also getting the Harmony test done. I'm booked in for 15th Dec when I'll be 9 weeks. Don't think I'll get my results before Christmas which is a bit of a shame.

I'm 35 now and will be 36 when baby arrives so I suppose I'm in the high risk group. I got it done for DS and it was great to know the sex of the baby so early as well as get such precise reassurance that everything's ok. There's a clinical trial going on in the place I'm getting it done so there's a discount and then you can claim 20% back on your income tax which takes the sting out of the fee a little (I'm in Ireland, not sure if you can claim back medical expenses in the UK).

whyistherumgone · 22/11/2016 14:42

I think I'm going to go to my 10 week scan and see what the outcome is then go on from there.
I'll be 33 by July - would that put me in high risk does anyone know or is it over 35?

GreedyDuck · 22/11/2016 14:44

I would just circulate a lot CatRash, and dispose of your drinks as and when you can, pick up a new one. Once everyone else has had a few they won't notice how much you are, or aren't, drinking.

Thumbs I didn't have any internals at all throughout my pregnancy (bar the dildocam at my early scan at 7+4). I did have a c-section at 39 weeks though. If you are on track for a vaginal birth and getting close or beyond your due date I think you may have mws wanting to check your cervix/give you a sweep, but you can always say no.

LuciBee231015 · 22/11/2016 15:00

Damson good luck for tomorrow, surely the sickness is a good sign though right?!

My nausea is still around, worse in the mornings but lasts all day really. I haven't actually been sick yet, but just feel on standby to leg it to the toilet at any moment! All I've managed to eat is carbs for the past 2 weeks so I'm a bit plump now 🙈, managed a normal lunch today tho! My sickness started at 6+4 and I'm 8+3 today.

My booking appointment is on 2nd December, DH won't be coming but will chat to his mum to find out any family info etc beforehand.

Hope you are all well 😊

Sasspop · 22/11/2016 15:22

Thumbs don't stress about internal examinations, you shouldn't need to have any through your pregnancy and the only reason for them in labour is to check if you are in labour and then to check your progress throughout the labour.. They offer them 4hourly in labour usually but as greedy said, u can always decline. Defo have a good chat to your midwife about it for some reassurance x

mummycaitlin · 22/11/2016 15:24

thumbsup you shouldn't need any internal examinations, I know this was something that worried me with DC1. The first I had was when they inserted the pessary to induce me in hospital.

I asked the private scan place when they no longer need to do internal scans and it's after 8 weeks.

whyistherumgone · 22/11/2016 15:26

Thanks for the tips about the drinking excuses. :)

Luci sorry to hear you're still feeling rough but your post has reassured me, I'm 6 weeks today and was genuinely starting to think no sign of nausea could be a bad sign, as everything I've read says it normally starts around 5-6 weeks. But there's still time for me to rue my words!

Is anyone else absolutely freezing today? I seem to be so much colder than usual!

Glitterbandit · 22/11/2016 16:28

I'll definitely be having the Harmony test as I'm still not convinced by the NHS Nuchal one after my son's result came back 1:14 last time and I had to have a CVS. I'm expecting the same to happen this time.

Notyetthere · 22/11/2016 17:06

And now I have caught a cold. Shit couldn't get any worse. Anyone recommend any remedies out there that could give me some relief as I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight. With every sneeze feels like I am pushing everything out down there.

DamsonGinIsMyThing · 22/11/2016 18:53

Apparently Vicks vaporub is safe, but not olbas oil.
Steam the room, dose up on paracetamol. Winge, feel sorry for yourself and rest.

MrsBobDylan · 22/11/2016 20:40

mouse I was tested for gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy with dc3 because I conversationally mentioned to the mw one of my sister's had it in her pregnancy. My ds1 has type 1 but I think gest. Diabetes is viewed in the same category as type 2 so not linked.

I went for the test quite annoyed as I defo thought I wouldn't have it but was pretty surprised when it showed I did! I was careful with what I ate and didn't have any problems with baby growth or low blood sugars after birth. Would be worth talking to your mw to see if she thinks you should be tested. The worst part is the fasting then drinking vomit inducing glucose

GreedyDuck · 22/11/2016 20:48

Sympathies Notyet, I've had an awful cold all week, just beginning to feel better again apart from a hacking cough. I just took paracetamol with honey and lemon.

If things feel peculiar down there when you're sneezing, please make sure you start practising your pelvic floor exercises now. Having a strong pelvic floor is something you'll never regret!

sandsandwiches · 22/11/2016 21:25

Evening all. Glad to hear about the exercise chat. I really don't want to stop as put on too much weight with DD1 but only really got back into things recently (also love the shred!) so not sure I'm the 'usually does it so carry on' category. Might switch to swimming or something instead!

Sorry to those feeling poorly. Hope ginger helps coldsave and nausea!

Now 4+3 so joining those with not many symptoms....yet Confused
