Ah emz what nice news! Obviously not brilliant if it literally happens on Christmas Day but lovely nonetheless! And happy it definitely sounds like you might be getting to something - all that energy sounds like nesting to me!

I just got back from midwife, no engagement here, I also have a sweep booked for the 4th. And leukocytes in my urine which I am off to google right now.

Emz32 · 21/12/2016 11:31

Welcome SerialReJoiner. Sounds like they are taking your wishes into consideration which is good. Always nice to have a plan. So much of this baby stuff is out our hands.

Col, I am hoping not to give birth on Christmas Day. I doing mind going into labour then (after my dinner Grin) but would rather avoid a Christmas birthday. What will be will be. Did the midwife not explain what that meant? So annoying when they tell you things & we rely on Google!

Bella1985 · 21/12/2016 11:40

Welcome serialrejoiner!

4th of Jan sounds like it will be a busy day...my first sweep will be on the 4th too, if babyBella doesn't show up...so that's 3 sweeps and 1 induction on the same day! Hopefully we'll have babies by then and we can all cancel our appointments!

Good luck happy - I wonder if it is the start of things!

emz I hope the midwife is right Smile

Hope the googling brings up a straightforward non-scary answer for you colonol

Oh, I forgot to ask...are you all doing the perrineum massage thing? I haven't tried once and now I'm starting to worry that I'll regret it massively if I have a bad tear...does everyone do it? Midwife hasn't mentioned it to me...

OP posts:
Emz32 · 21/12/2016 11:53

I didn't do it with DS, 2 reasons, I couldn't see or reach plus I just didn't want to. I did tear with him but that was from pushing without a contraction. (I just wanted him out!) wouldn't try that one. It's actually not as bad as it sounds, the stitches were a bit ouchy as she did them but after that I healed quickly & I wasn't sore. I don't know many people who do do it.

colonolthirteen · 21/12/2016 12:56

Thanks for the good wishes and hello serialrejoiner!

She did explain a bit about the leukocytes but I always like to do my own reading! It might just be a UTI but I'm not convinced, I've never had one before and it doesn't sting when I wee, still getting the fanny daggers (still makes me laugh) but I think that's just when the baby presses against the cervix. We'll see and thankfully it doesn't sound serious.

Bella I was wondering about the perineal massage too. I've heard it mentioned lots of times but I'm not really sure what it's all about.

SerialReJoiner · 21/12/2016 13:02

Very much not interested in a perineal massage. Grin I do try to do a few squats throughout the day though.

Thanks for the welcome. :) Looking forward to hearing about all the new babies!

wilfrhodes · 21/12/2016 17:04

colonol i've just had lab results for leukocytes and it came back normal, no uti. this is the second time this has happened to me - both occasions being late on, which inout down to it now being quite physically difficult to "collect" the sample, thereby resulting in cross contamination (which is what causes presence of leukocytes coupled with no abnormal findings on further testing).

hello everyone, btw! i'm due on 31st december, but expect things to take rather longer than that (but not as long as my mum, who had me at 44 weeks! Shock)

wilfrhodes · 21/12/2016 17:05

*inout i put

colonolthirteen · 21/12/2016 17:12

Thanks for the reassurance wilf! I suspect it's nothing as well. And welcome! And 44 weeks ShockShockShock I'm 39 weeks this Friday - that would mean FIVE more weeks to go. This is the stuff of nightmares. Big respect to your mum!

Emz32 · 21/12/2016 17:37

44 weeks!!!! So glad we don't have to do that anymore. Wow.

Iv been for a long walk, had so much energy today. Had quite a few fanny daggers which took my breath away (midwife called it lightening crutch which Did make me laugh). Wonder if I'll get much sleep tonight!

Bella1985 · 21/12/2016 18:48

Holy moly wilf 44 weeks?! Your poor mother! Thank god for inductions! How big were you when you were born?! Shock Welcome - another one who doesn't know if baby will have 2016 or 2017 as their year of birth!

I like lightening crutch (could also be crotch too Grin) I have my 38 week appointment tomorrow with the midwife, I'm not sure how engaged my baby is, I haven't had the daggers in a while so I may be disappointed...we shall see!

OP posts:
wilfrhodes · 21/12/2016 19:41

i always knew i was a late baby, but only found out two weeks ago just how late. normal sort of size, i gather, and a very deliberate decision taken. still, doesn't give me confidence that i'll avoid induction now...

i also have christmas deliveries coming over the next couple of days. our first christmas at home just the two of us (and last!) so i'm panicking that i've ordered too much and/or forgotten something. DH keeps reminding me that the shops are only closed for a couple of days. it also feels strange doing all this planning when the little squatter may appear and turn everything upside down! Xmas Confused

nothing by way of pains here but since i left work the week before last my feet and ankles have been murder. am just starting to work out how to regulate my fluid intake to stop everything swelling up without having to be tethered to the toilet. such a glamorous period in our lives!

Bella1985 · 21/12/2016 22:18

My feet have been crazy big some days! The skin is so tight, they swell and bulge on the top of the foot. Sometimes walking keeps it down and other times walking makes it worse and I can feel my feet going numb...DH and I spend most nights marvelling at how strange my feet look! Haven't mastered the right amount of water intake and activity. I can only wear 2 pairs of shoes, and quite frankly I'm squeezing my sausage feet into those. It's too cold for flip flops outside this time of year! I'm hoping my feet go back to normal after birth, otherwise my maternity pay will all go on repleneshing my shoe rack!

Morning all - I'm up bright and early already for section (plus I'm in agony from re-painting the kitchen - my body clearly thought I should conserve the energy rather than expend!)

First your midwife sounds rubbish - mine had been saying for weeks baby was head down, but entertained my instinct of breech by agreeing to send me for a presentation scan at 36w (made easier for her as I was measuring small at 36w check). At least you know now, albeit the date is close to due date, and can go if anything were to start between now and your date!

Happy* & Emz - all your posts sound like your babies are gearing up to meet you. I'll be looking out for an update!!

Welcome Serial and Wilf!

Sorry to hear you have so signs of baby coming col, perhaps baby will let you enjoy Christmas before engaging? Like Wilf, I've have leukocytes a couple of times in my urine and the midwife has disregarded it as contamination. Think it can be an indicator of a UTI so may be best to get a retest or further sample just to make sure it's nothing to worry about!

Bella my feet have been swollen on and off since the hot spell we had in July! I have heard story's that some people's feet don't return to their original size after baby arrives - if yours don't return you could use it as an opportunity for lots of pretty new shoes??

Admarks · 22/12/2016 07:27

Goodness - every time I use bold I muck it up!

Emz32 · 22/12/2016 07:44

Good luck Admarks. Eagerly awaiting baby news! Had a lot more Braxton hicks yesterday & this morning. Slept well apart from being wide awake at 4. DH has appointments today that can't be moved... Will this baby interrupt his plans!?! Shock

SerialReJoiner · 22/12/2016 07:46

Good luck, Admarks!

colonolthirteen · 22/12/2016 07:59

All the best admarks! I hope everything goes smoothly for you. How exciting!

stealthbanana · 22/12/2016 08:37

Good luck admarks! Enjoy meeting your baby!

emz your DH having immovable appointments is an excellent sign Grin

Bella1985 · 22/12/2016 08:43

Good luck admarks - so exciting!

emz I agree- you may invoke Sod's Law... fingers crossed! That is our problem- we are prepared and don't have any plans that are concrete...baby knows that we are ready and won't come as a consequence!! Grin

OP posts:
Emz32 · 22/12/2016 08:57

We will see. I feel shattered today. No plans so will probably be a quiet day with DS. No daggers this morning but a very heavy feeling that aches. Feels like this baby might fall out if a cough too much Grin

Bella1985 · 22/12/2016 14:55

So today I saw a different midwife who seemed rather alarmed by the size of my bump! I'm measuring 42inches. I did point out that I've been measuring ahead throughout 3rd trimester, even when I had 2 growth scans which plotted baby at 50th percentile but she's booked me in for a growth scan next week (she wanted it today but they're full) because I'm only small (5 foot 1) and she wants reassurance that the baby will fit on its way out Hmm

The rational part of me is thinking she's just being cautious and it will be fine, and very often they're wrong anyway, and it could just be a long baby in my short torso...and the irrational part of me is freaking out that I've grown a monster that won't be able to come out, and that she's older than my usual midwife and has most likely seen many more women through this process and knows when babies are big and and and...Confused

So now I'm really really hoping I don't go into labour over the next few days as I want to know if we're facing a huge baby and want the midwives to be ready for it and not attempt a ventouse and forceps if I'm just going to need a C section anyway...!

The positive I took out of the appointment- she said my bump was all baby (meaning not just a fat belly) so I can continue to enjoy the Christmas chocolates... Chocolate

OP posts:
SerialReJoiner · 22/12/2016 14:58

Remember growth scans are notoriously inaccurate! I hope it's just a long baby in your short torso. I think most women don't grow babies that can't fit the exit. :)

Bella1985 · 22/12/2016 15:10

That's what my rational side keeps saying too. It's just a bit annoying to have this hovering over me at 39 weeks...I could have done without -subconsciously fretting about this!
