neon I don't blame you! OH says if we had twins, there's no way we'd use cloth, I'm stubborn enough to try, don't know how long we'd last though Grin. I have a friend who had 3 under 2, all in cloth nappies while breastfeeding the twins (rarely tandem feeding) Shock

SuperDuperJezebel · 15/08/2016 21:24

Having changed nappies for about 15 years at work I'm not too bothered about that, it's the lack of sleep that troubles me!

NameChange30 · 15/08/2016 21:26

I'm not worried about changing nappies. It's just that the detailed discussion of the practicalities makes it seem very real.

Name change im definitely with you on that!

ItsMagicYouKnow · 15/08/2016 21:27

DS didn't sleep through until a few months ago, so I'm trying to kid myself that I'm still "hardened up" and it won't come as a shock to the system Hmm

Happygojo86 · 15/08/2016 21:32

DD hasn't slept through yet. You'll be amazed at how little sleep you need to function Grin

charlybs · 15/08/2016 21:53

I'm so clueless about looking after kids it's scaring me haha. This will be DC1 and I've never worked in a child caring role or remember looking after my younger brother much. I am good at playing with toddlers... Er does that count?

Feels like there's a mountain of info and a whole heap of skills I need to get my head around

tutulove1 · 15/08/2016 21:54

Well they do an organic cotton range I suppose it depends how organic you want to get.

You've just reminded me of an adorable little green radicals dress I had for DD. I've just been up in the loft to take a look at it. It's a navy vest dress with red dogs on, so cute!!

alphabook · 15/08/2016 22:01

I'm keeping my head in the sand for now, I have no experience with babies and the reality of having a tiny human to keep alive is quite terrifying!

tutulove1 · 15/08/2016 22:03

Magic, I'll break it to you gently, I was like "I'll be ok with DS I'm USED to getting up in the night with DD"
DS came along and bam it hit me like a ton of bricks (the sleep deprivation that is) no more napping when the baby naps.
Shall I kid myself that I'll definitely sail through the sleep deprivation this time?
I know they'll always be the odd friend who says "oh I don't mind getting up" but that ain't me. I actually thought I was gonna die of sleep deprivation both times.

tutulove1 · 15/08/2016 22:08

Alpha I remember leaving the hospital and thinking, they are just letting me walk out with this baby no ones told me what to do. Then getting home and thinking what do we do now!!! You soon muddle your way through though and before long knowing how to deal with baby is second nature.

neonrainbow · 15/08/2016 22:12

Charly i dont have a clue either. Let's all make it up together 😂

charlybs · 15/08/2016 22:24

Good plan Star

Rosey135 · 15/08/2016 22:36

Hi guys, I've been keeping upwith the chat but felt pretty quiet just having some family time. Work is really getting on top of me, I have been exhausted and I'm having a lot of pelvic and lower back pain which isn't helping and I've been trying to fight off a cold for over two weeks now which is not like me.

I would like to try cloth nappies, definitely think they are the way to go!

But also agree with others when referring to the finer details I'm just getting my head around the fact I have skmethinv growing inside me, I haven't quite got to the bit where it shits and eats and cries yet.

I had my booking in on Friday and had a really high carbon monoxide reading, has anyone else had that? I don't smoke and can't think why I would have such a high reading :/ did get me worried.

No date for my scan yet and I couldn't get the state to work on my phone so will add my details when I'm home.

neonrainbow · 15/08/2016 22:39

Sorry to hear youre having such a tough time rosey Sad

MrsMushrooms · 15/08/2016 22:51

So sorry to hear your news, Louise :(

Rosey, did they give you any advice on the CO reading? Mine said that if it was high and you didn't smoke, you should be checking for CO exposure elsewhere (eg faulty boiler). I hope you get to the bottom of it!!

Magic, thanks for all the cloth nappy tips! We really want to try cloth nappies but I think the plan for now is to 'ease in' with disposables and then try to switch over as soon as we feel we can. I'm really worried about how tired I'll be so I don't want to add any more stress than necessary, but I love the idea of cloth nappies!!

I read a comment on here while trying to catch up just now (can't quite find it, I'm so behind on this thread!) about refusing a gestational diabetes test - has anybody else been offered one yet? I'm quite worried about it as I have a high BMI, both my parents have diabetes, I already have insulin resistance, and I feel like I'm already drinking and weeing way more than normal (though that could just be pregnancy!)

I told my midwife about my concerns and she said that I can have a test at around 20 weeks - I'm surprised at the wait!

DaisyBank82 · 15/08/2016 23:31

I've been offered the test but it's not until December. It's because I have a high bmi Sad

CatalinaFuckingWineMixer · 16/08/2016 07:14

*MrsMushrooms" I've been offered the test too because my bmi was 30.5 at booking in. However my scales at home (and the slimming world scales) say that I weigh 7lb less than that so I'll be declining the test unless there are other factors that indicate it's necessary when it gets to the time. I was told it would be at 28 weeks though, so even longer to wait than you. I don't think there would be anything to stop you making adjustments to your diet now just in case if you're worried. But maybe ask if there's anyway you can have the test earlier with your family history.

NameChange30 · 16/08/2016 07:49

My midwife said it's usually a faulty boiler. If I were you I'd get the boiler checked and instal a carbon monoxide alarm if you don't already have one.

I had GD in my last pregnancy, diagnosed after a glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks. Up to that point I had no risk factors and no sugar had shown up in any urine tests at midwife appointments. I also had no symptoms. The Trust I was under then did non-fasting GTTs as standard at 28 weeks, followed by a fasting GTT for those with raised results - which turned out to be very lucky for me! I managed the GD with diet and exercise and didn't need meds.

My new Trust does not offer GTTs at any point unless you have risk factors. Obviously this time I do, so I will have one at 16 weeks and then another at 28 weeks (both fasting ones). If I develop GD again I will get at least two extra growth scans to check the baby's growth and health of the placenta.

I'm interested that some people don't want the test - is there a particular reason for this? It's absolutely an individual choice (like everything in preganancy/birth/parenting!) but as I had GD with no risk factors or symptoms last time, I know that it can go undetected and it can pose extra risks to mum and baby. But then I am one of those people who takes every test/screening going!

NameChange30 · 16/08/2016 07:59

I agree Dusty, I'll be happy to have the test if they offer it to me.

tutulove1 · 16/08/2016 08:00

Why did they literally do nothing at my booking in appointment other than my green notes?
You guys have had all sorts of tests and I've had zero.
Re the gestational diabetes test I have to do have that too because my Dads got diabetes. I haven't had diabetes on my other two pregnancies but I'll have it again just for peace of mind.

AngelBlue12 · 16/08/2016 08:12

I was told I had to have GTT after DD2 because she was a big baby (10lb 10) so I had the tests with DD3 and DD4 everything was fine (both big babies still 9lb 13 & 10lb 8) with DD5 I said no thanks as it's just that big babies run in both families. DD5 was 11lb! I'll be refusing it again this time as i just have big overdue babies!

tutulove1 · 16/08/2016 08:28

Oh my goodness angelblue your smallest baby was 9lb 13? People kept saying mine were big (7lb13 and 8lb 4) I don't know why people said that because most of the babies I know we're all in the 7s and 8s.

MrsMushrooms · 16/08/2016 08:33

Thanks for the reassurance about the GD test - I guess the wait is normal! I already eat a very Diabetes-friendly diet because of my IR so I don't think there's much I could alter there, I don't know what else can be done to help baby if I do get GD but I suppose I'll find out further down the line if it becomes a problem!

My friend and I are in Blackpool this week and I feel so guilty - we planned this holiday of rollercoasters, waterslides and booze AGES ago and now we're here I'm useless! We're still having fun but I don't think it's quite the holiday she was hoping for :(
