Buying a Phil & Teds - when should I purchase?

I have decided that a P&T is the double for me (DS will be 2 when baby arrives)

When should I buy it?
Do I need to get the toddler used to it before new baby arrives?

Tips on where to buy from also welcome

I bought mine before baby was due and used it as a single for a while before going into double stage. My eldest DD loved it.

It's up to you, it might be an idea to get your eldest used to it before baby arrives - ???

I bought mine from an independent retailer locally.

funnypeculiar · 09/01/2007 13:47

ohhh, you're going to love it - enjoy!

If you can stand someone else's dribble, there's usually loads on ebay - we got ours for £250, complete with cocoon etc.

We bought ours when dd was 3 months - she was happier in sling til then - but that was partly because we are crap! DS was v excited about his new 'up high' buggy, so imagine it'll go down well whenever!

TheBlonde · 09/01/2007 14:28

Another question - do the mudguards come as standard now or are they an extra?

Also are the panniers worth buying?

Don't think mine has mud guards, no it can't have.

I bought 2 panniers. Never used em, so I'd say no, not worth it.

TheBlonde · 09/01/2007 19:16

Thanks TeeCee

I guess the Cocoon's usefulness depends on the weather

Did you bother with the transport bag?

Def buy it prior to baby arriving to get toddler used to it. We told ds it was his racing buggy and we couldn't get him out of it! We bought a cocoon rather than sleeping bag and it was great but very short lived - he grew out of it by 4 months. We then ended up buying the sleeping bag a few months ago as he needed a 'cosy toes' when the weather turned colder.

I use my panniers, but got one off ebay. A lot of people selling one (they come as a pack of 2).

funnypeculiar · 09/01/2007 19:41

I want the panniers - the one downside with them is there is NO space for shopping.
Didn't get the transport bag, but then ours did get bent out of shape on a flight, rendering it out of action for most of our holiday so maybe we should have done...

annobal · 09/01/2007 20:15

We're now on our 2nd P & T's - the 1st was ruined by Singapore Airlines - so def get the transport bag if you are flying. (DS's are 3 and 2 with bump due in June)

Paniers I did buy but don't really use anymore. I love it but would warn that they are not as hardy as they could be - there's not much space to store stuff but I wouldn't store much in the bottom anyway as it tends to stretch down and come apart at the seams. Our current buggy has started coming apart at the zip.

I'd suggest buying from a good retailler - we've bought the latest from Daisy and Tom - when you have a problem they just need to view it and will send off for the part hence you don't have to be without it. You don't get the same level of service from all retaillers.

I know this sounds really negative but they are great and I would highly recommend them.

TheBlonde · 10/01/2007 10:34

Thanks annobal - I think I will leave the transport bag for now as we may just fly with one buggy

I got mine for Christmas, DD2 is due mid Feb. DD1 (16 months) hasn't made a fuss about changing to a new pushchair, she seems to like it ok. I got mine from a little local shop and it did come with mudguards (unexpected nice surprise!.

I'm wondering now whether I should have got the coccoon too as it will still be cold when lo arrives, I don't suppose anyone has one going spare?

Enjoy your p&t, they're brilliant!

annobal · 10/01/2007 18:48

The cocoons are great - definitely buy one. They are like an extra little bag and if LO falls asleep while you are out you can carry just the cocoon indoors.

annobal · 10/01/2007 18:50

Also - even if the cocoon doesn't last long (about 4 months with DS2) they do hold their value really well - we bought ours for about 30 and got back about 25 for it when we sold it.

misdee · 10/01/2007 18:50

there are two new models due out at some point, when are you due? i am waiting to confirmation on when they are coming out in the UK.

TheBlonde · 10/01/2007 18:58

oh that's interesting misdee

I'm due mid March

I measured the hall last night and reckon I won't be able to get past a P&T in the hall until after the birth - my bump is too big

misdee · 10/01/2007 19:01

american site says feb/march for the new Gt and SP models. i think the GT will be more expensive, its lighter though. adjustable handlebars, mudguards included, different way of attaching the seat. as soon i get emailed to say when uk release it, then will let you know.

also remember guarentees start from purchase not from when you start to use them.

TheBlonde · 10/01/2007 19:08

Any idea if they are out in NZ yet?

I can't look at the P&T site as this pc isn't flash enabled

not yet. email me djmisdee hotmail.com

misdee · 10/01/2007 21:15

just got this email back.

Dear Misdee

Thank you for your question.

We have displayed SP and GT prototypes at international trade shows, and they have been received extremely positively. As with every product we design, develop and release we are very excited about them, but there is a long gap between design and delivery to stores. We are delighted that there is so much excitement surrounding their development.

HOWEVER: they are still in development, and there is NO FIXED DATE for the roll out of the new models (Ie: it is NOT ?in the next few months?, ?sometime after Christmas?, ?early 2007? or any variant of that!).

We will be in touch with all distributors, and retailers in our markets, when we have definitive production, launch, and delivery dates which they will be able to provide to their customers.

Kind Regards

Bridget Edwards

adapt & survive with phil & teds!!
