Oh Mar thats great news!! Glad you got to see baby moving which must have made you give out the biggest sigh of relief!! So glad baby is doing okay and so are you, try not to stress to much anymoreSmile

Thom- yes Im getting quite a bit more! Pretty sure Ive heard its a good sign/healthy/normal?!

After I was promised I was going to find out about mat leave today, I was let down yet againHmm really getting on my nerves. I have 12 weeks left tomorrow and still dunno what Im doing!!

On the upside went to the pub for OHs birthday with his family which was lovely, got baby cuddles again Smile hes growing up so quick! Trying to smile nowGrin

minieggaddict · 18/04/2016 22:10

Fyi on the whooping cough jab: It flaming hurt! And now I feel like I've got a dead arm. Asked about side effects and the nurse said that if I feel like I've got a cold/flu coming then its cos I caught a cold/flu not cos the jab. That told me!

Mat - so relieved about your scan. Take it easy and maybe eat a load of sweets (mw told me that would get baby moving).x

TheMissingPiece, what do you need work to tell you about maternity leave? I thought it was just a case of you telling them what you're doing. They can't refuse or try and negotiate it, I thought?

Speak- whether Im eligible through the company or have to go through the job centre

GoingLoopyQuickly · 18/04/2016 22:29

Good news Mar. What a relief you must feel.

I went to the chiropractor today and I feel quite positive. I am a bit twisted in the pelvis and when she was doing her stuff it hit the spots i try to stretch out but with fear of cramping up. But obviously without the fear so that was nice. I am going back this friday and maybe Monday. We will decide later this week.

If you are thinking of trying epilating I wa advised to go for more tweezers and a light if poss. I have 40 tweezers but no light. That took me beyond my budget. I find epilating something I can do myself unlike waxing and it is much less messy. But either waxing or epilating will last so much longer than shaving and with less chance of ingrown hair etc.

I had my 25 (+4) mw appointment today too and she confirmed baby is head down which is great news. I took my 2year old DS along too (he is a bit young to wait at home lol) and his face lit up when I told him he was listening to his sister's heartbeat. What melted my heart was that later in the morning he raised it again and said he had listened to the baby's heartbeat. I love him. I hope he gets used to sharing daddy with someone else. He will be fine sharing me as long as I keep keeping him alive. But daddy is the fun one...

I also booked my GTT for friday and bought the dreaded lucozade which I have banned from the house so it is sitting in the porch waiting for me to collect on my way out on friday. Yuck.

SpeakNoWords · 18/04/2016 22:37

Ah, I see, sorry. It's a bit crap of them not to be able to tell you - I wonder why they're delaying and not letting you know.

dats · 18/04/2016 23:47

That is crap, I agree Missing. Surely a multinational company like that must have a bloody maternity policy?! Or is it because they're franchises or what? How frustrating for you. Woman has baby - oh, we've never had to deal with that sort of thing!!

TheMissingPieceToMyPuzzle · 19/04/2016 06:35

The funny thing is 2 people have already gone on mat leave!! And I feel sorry for one girl who is 8 weeks, Ive told her not to let them do what theyre doing to me..

Cookiesandcoffee · 19/04/2016 12:44

missing I had the same problem with my big company last time.. HR need to calculate your average weekly earnings during the 'test period'. I think you can even work it out on the HMRC website yourself (if you pretend you are the employer. ) best of luck. Mine concluded for the best as I ended up receiving more with Mat Allowance than I would of with 90% of my weekly earnings through SMP. Isn't it crazy that these big companies can't seem to manage?! They must have pregnant women all the time. And clearly they are not trained with how to deal with them.
Just think once you are on Mat leave you won't have to worry about them Smile

going you're making me think I should go to the chiropractor after all. Although I've been wearing my support belt today and so far I think it's helped. Good luck for your GTT on Friday. How cute of DS. So lovely. I'm sure he will enjoy the extra time with his dad whilst you are dealing with baby.

I've always been too scared to use an epilator. Or wax. Or even go for a wax. Such a baby.

Ellizardo · 19/04/2016 13:22

Hello All
Just back from Anti D injection appointment (hmmm, quite painful) with the midwife who was lovely and confirmed I don't have diabetes this time around. So very pleased if slightly baffled that I should have it so strongly with Ted and not at all with DC2.

Goingloopy - good luck with GTT on friday. how sweet of your son at the scan! And how lovely that he's old enough to register it all. Know what you mean about Daddy being the fun one...Ted's face is a picture when he hears daddy's keys in the lock!

Anna - she also said I can basically choose my slot for the ELCS anytime w/c 4 July which felt a bit like a la carte dining! And I'm meeting the consultant anaesthetist on 3 May to discuss why the spinal didn't work last time and I needed general anaesthetic...

Dats - well jel of your hot and sour soup. I've got a £10 tesco meal deal tonight which isn't enthusing me as much as it should.

Hi ladies back from our holidays now had a lovely break. Lots of swimming it was so nice to get away.

Mar sorry you are having a tough time pleased you got to hear the heartbeat at last. Super news that you had a reassuring scan today. Just try to rest as advised.

Cookies Primary I feel like I need to watch the Portland programme now.

Kaytee I did my nails yesterday. I've had my hair done today as my roots needed doing & it made me feel yuck. Next week I've booked in for a pregnancy pampering treatment & pedicure. It's amazing the difference a bit of pampering makes.

Allthegood I'm getting a belly bandit after this birth as its my last and I want to get in my best shape ever by 40.

Julfin so jealous of your trip to Italy. I too feel like my hair doesn't need washing often. It looks better the day after washing at the minute. Strange a a last time I had really greasy hair.

All those talking about maternity leave I'm probably going the earliest. I start mine on 13th June. I'll be 37 weeks. I want to enjoy some time with my toddler before baby arrives. Then I don't plan on going back until next summer.

I am really struggling with maternity wear still. I have hardly a thing to wear I just cannot find anything I like. I need another maternity bra or two as well. I want some breastfeeding night shirts so I may just try some Mothercare maternity clothes.

I'm thinking that I need to get my bag ready for hospital soon as well as washing all the baby clothes. Time is ticking by so fast.

Feeling ok here apart from a real achy pain in my groin. Baby is head down so could be that. I'm still really breathless I had the midwife appt yesterday and she thinks it is possibly anaemia so I'm just waiting to hear back about the blood results.

Has my 28 week scan this morning. Cant believe how much baby is filling up the womb! It looked huge on the screen.

Growth is right on track and the measurements have all caught up now which is great. Baby is breech though! :( praying it will turn soon as CS scares the crap out of me.

Attaching a photo of babys face as its body is too big to fit on a photo now!

Glad your app went well eliz

Ellizardo · 19/04/2016 13:48

Welcome back beautician! Glad the holiday was a success.

I'm looking into a pampering session...

Lovely scan pic primary.

Glad you had a great holiday beaut. Wish we were able to get away.

31 weeks today!! God this is coming around quickly!! Met up with some friends from work for lunch today and got to feed my friends 5 month old. God it felt strange, didn't know how to position little one or whether to wind her or not. I'm sure it'll all come flooding back to me soon enough!! Just started to sort some baby stuff as I've got back some of the things I'd lent out. Need to get the tiny any clothes from the mil loft. 6 weeks left at work. Starting to struggle so much with PGP and sciatica though and 13+hour shifts are a killer!!

gnat99 · 19/04/2016 14:42

Welcome back Beautician, glad you had a good holiday! You really deserved it, working so hard and with your three DC to look after. I started swimming in the pool last week, but have been fantasising about a proper seaside splash around.

Elliz and Mini I also found the Anti-D quite ouchy! The midwife did warn me that it would sting, but I was still surprised. Had the whooping cough jab this morning and it was fine. Arm a tiny bit achy now but really hardly notice it. No side effects yet so fingers crossed.

Elliz, great news about the diabetes all clear. I think you said you've made an effort to eat less sugar since the last pregnancy because of the GD, so perhaps that's why.

Primary, delighted all well, and how cute to see the pic Smile Breech position may well change. A friend of mine had a scan the day after her 36 week appointment, and the baby had moved around to normal in that time. Fingers crossed you'll be lucky!

There's been a lot of 'movement' talk over the past few days - I have to say mine has been on the gentle and subdued side - until now. Last night the little thing went mental! Wriggling and squiggled non-stop for an hour when I went to bed. And for the first time (anterior placenta) DH and I could actually see the action from the outside. My belly looked like there was some kind of ocean storm going on. So amazing to see Grin

Goingloopy great that the chiropractor helped. I am hoping massage on Friday will help my hip/lower back aches and twinges. If not I will try and get referred for PGP advice, as the midwife suggested I do if things persisted or got worse. Can't really imagine it going away without help now, since I'm 29 weeks and the bump is not getting any lighter! My main problem is trying to work out in advance how to avoid exacerbating the pain. Brisk walking seems to be the only obvious factor, but the effects don't kick until the next day so I keep forgetting to slow down. I find it really hard to walk slowly unless I remind myself constantly. What a pain. Hence the swimming efforts, as otherwise I am getting no aerobic exercise now.

Becks good luck getting through the next 6 weeks at work...

Missing, sorry to hear that yet again your work are being crap. You could really do without that. I've just had yet another risk assessment at work and they are falling over themselves to try and make my life comfortable. I'm really grateful for it.

Just eight more weeks to go at work! My last day will be June 15th, when I will be exactly 37 weeks. Am alternating between excitement and terror - it does feel like we have so much yet to do (that's mainly because we do Wink).

Rant alert: forgot to mention how annoyed I am with my 28 week care....

I had my blood tests, Lucozade, & Anti-D appointments at the hospital last week as my surgery doesn't do the Anti-D any more, so they sent me there for the lot. When I saw midwife at surgery next day the results weren't back, not that surprising as it wasn't quite 24 hours. Was seen by two (TWO!) midwifes who didn't seem to know the ropes very well and didn't explain to me why there were two of them (training, perhaps?). When I queried it they said they were covering for that day, but didn't normally work at my practice. (That's five different midwives I've seen so far this pregnancy, and never had the same one twice - hence my surprise at seeing two at once.) Before I left they said I should contact the surgery this week to ask about the bloods results.

When I went online yesterday to double check my appointment time for this morning (baby brain is really kicking in for me just now, so I'm paranoid about every arrangements I make) there were four appointments listed for me in all, two of which I knew nothing about! As well as the whooping cough jab today, and my 31 week midwife visit in a fortnight, they had booked me in for an extra midwife visit this week and another one next week. I asked the receptionist in person this morning, and explained to her that I didn't need the two middle midwife appointments, it must be an error (stupid - perhaps I should have just kept at least one of them, and used it as a bonus opportunity to listen to the heartbeat again). She said 'are you sure you don't need to see the midwife this week? It says here you are 40 weeks pregnant'. I assured I was only 29 weeks, and we both laughed and cancelled the two errant appointments. Still, I was quite annoyed at the midwives - if they'd got that information wrong in the system, what other errors could have been made with my notes?

When I saw the nurse right afterwards for my jab, I asked her if my blood tests had come back. I'm quite anxious to know if I'm anaemic, as I've had ongoing problems with my iron levels even before pregnancy and have been on extra iron since the booking in. She was quite obliging and looked at my file but said there was nothing showing on the system since my booking in last November. She told me I should ring the hospital to find out, and while I was at it, to ask them to send a copy of the lab report to the surgery (and the 20 week one). Since I didn't have my midwife notes with me, we couldn't really check whether there was a paper printout in there. And she is not a midwife, and was already doing more than she was supposed to for me. So I thanked her and left. When I finally got through to the phlebotomy department at the hospital on my fourth attempt (having been variously transferred or asked to call a different number), the nurse I spoke to was rude and patronising:

'We normally only tell you the results if there is a problem'
(OK, no one told me that, the midwives told me to call, and then the practice nurse specifically told me I should call you and ask)
'Well, they must have had them, and we normally only tell you the results if there is a problem'
(So there isn't a problem then? I can be sure about that? It's just that the nurse said I should call you).
'Well, well done for calling. Please don't worry. Bye'.

I was so angry and upset after I got off that phone! It didn't help that I was already at work by then. Nnnggrh am so annoyed. I'll have to ring the surgery or midwife tomorrow when I've calmed down a bit, and ask them to sort it out. Or possibly wait another 2 weeks for the next midwife appointment for more info.

If you've managed to read this far, I commend you. Apologies for the rant, I just needed to get that off my chest. I'm sure everything is fine, as they said. But would it hurt them to be a bit more organised and pleasant?

beckslovestimmy · 19/04/2016 16:09

That's rubbish Gnat how annoying! I hear a lot of people have trouble and continuity of care is patchy. Did the phlebotomy department actually tell you the results in the end, if not I wouldn't automatically assume. Definitely get the midwives to chase it's there bloody job!! They should have access to the system! I think my next app with midwife is at 34 weeks, and have an appointment to see health visitor team to get babies red book, need to book in for whooping cough jab too.

gnat99 · 19/04/2016 16:24

No, they didn't tell me the results! I'll phone the midwife tomorrow.

Usually my surgery is really good, and even though the midwives change every time, they have otherwise mostly done things by the book, given me enough time for appointments, gone through my results with me and made sure I had no worries or concerns. So this is a bit of a blip in my experience, and it does sound like the hospital's at fault. I do appreciate that the resources are stretched, etc, and you hear much worse stories. But it's still exasperating.

What's the red book?

minieggaddict · 19/04/2016 18:10

The red book is for baby... All the weights and measurements from birth up to about 3 I think (health visitor fills it in mostly) and the immunisations. Every time you take baby to an appointment you need the red book... It used to just live in my change bag.
It wasn't given to me until I'd had dd last time.

pulpi · 19/04/2016 18:22

Great news, Mar!

Thanks for all the whooping cough jab reassurance, ladies. Definitely getting it when I go for my 28 week appointment next week.

Cannot believe that I'm closing in on the end of the second trimester already. This pregnancy has flown past!

Beautician, I hit Mothercare for some trousers the other month and it was one of the better decisions I've made. I'm living in these comfy linen trousers and crop jeans. Not a lot of wardrobe variety for me, but I'm just happy not to have to constantly readjust my trousers! And I'm also going off on leave around the same time as you! I'll be 34 weeks, but I've got enough annual leave left that I was able to top up to 14 June. Mat leave won't kick in until 7 July. Baby will hopefully arrive not too long after!

26+5

gnat99 · 19/04/2016 18:49

Pulpi, I've felt no ill effects from the vaccine yet.

I will also be using 3 weeks of annual leave before my mat leave proper starts - officially I go on leave on 6th July, which is my due date!

Grockle · 19/04/2016 19:40

Hello,

I've not been on this thread since the first one or two (posted under a different name). I find it really hard to keep up but will go back and catch up.

I'm 27 weeks and have my 28 week apt next week with a new midwife. Lots to talk about as consultant decided I have 2 small fibroids so am at risk of haemorrhaging and may need a blood transfusion when I deliver so I'm not allowed to go to the low risk unit which is what I wanted. I am allowed to stay at home though!

Not had any vaccines or tests since the initial ones so I assume midwife will talk about all of that.

I'm exhausted atm so really struggling but am hope that will ease off as I stop doing so much.

julfin · 19/04/2016 20:10

Welcome back, Grockle!

Pulpi aren't you Canadian? I've never heard a Canadian use the word "trousers" so many times in one paragraph! Our bad habits must be rubbing off on you Wink

Gnat - sympathies. I had blood tests taken at the beginning of February for my epilepsy - the consultant wanted to check that there's sufficient medicine being absorbed into my blood to control the epilepsy during my final trimester. And when I had my follow-up appt yesterday, apparently the blood results "haven't come back yet" (AKA been lost). Annoying. Your experience sounds deeply annoying - so sorry to hear it. Hope you get some reassurance soon.

Due in exactly three months today!

AnnaT45 · 19/04/2016 21:37

eliz that's great news! Are you feeling happy with that? Do they think they can do a spinal this time round? So is that when you 're 39 weeks? My consultant is letting me got to 40
As DD was so late. If I go into labour before then I have to go straight in and have been told that if things don't move quickly naturally then I'll have an EMCS. Given how long it took me to get to 5cm I think it's safe to say it won't go quickly Grin

Love all the pampering! I need to get a bikini wax, used to be so good before DD had them every month now it's awful!! One bit of advice get your lady garden sorted before you're due. As I was being rushed in for c section they pulled the sheet up and said 'do we need to shave? No she's good' I dread to think what type of job they would have done with an NHS issue razor Blush

We've had a great day! Got our mortgage approved so posting off everything to exchange tomorrow and then we are hoping to move late May/ beg of June. Got a quote from removal company and they'll pack
The house up for an extra £250! Worth it I say!!! So excited now!!!

Hope everyone is well bar the nasty SPD. Please push for physio referral if you need it mine was truly marvellous. Had it around 32 weeks and within a few weeks was sooo much better!
Also re beech babies I don't think they really mind till 34/36 weeks or so so hoping they all get into position for us Halo
