We're handholding for the newly graduated viroids and handing out hooyahs to badly behaved miroids. Between womble pains and boobs with veins, some of us are still managing to shag! It's JS Grads 47!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 47th grads thread... celebrating the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 46th grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is here in its 60th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

There is also a Just Mumming thread here for once your babies come along, or to keep up with the graduated graduates!

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

Here is the stats list, please update your own spot with any updates.

Also we are good friends with two couples who have both given their children double-barrelled surnames. (One couple are married but neither changed their name, and the other couple aren't married.) That has probably influenced me in terms of feeling more confident about doing the same.

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 16:07

Hmm-- I like the Spanish way as well. Perhaps if girls give the mothers and boys give the fathers, that would be fair. Still, it all seems rather complicated.

I'll think about it some more-- I don't feel very strongly about my kids surname. I definitely won't give up my own name though. My name is who I am!

I know a couple that each to each others name so the family and the kids were all double barreled. Their son was very sweet and insisted he would also take his wife's name (he was 12).

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 16:11

Also Name I'm on the Feb due date thread -- you should join us but I warn you its very fast moving with typically 100 posts a day! Lot's of us have been through our 12 week scans and a good number were told what the sex was (informally). The sonographer told one of the women she'd buy all her baby clothes if she was wrong to reassure her that she was 100% positive.

I think they all know and that the scanning technology has advanced more quickly than NHS guidelines. I can't believe they can see all the internal organs but could miss seeing my daughters uterus and ovaries while showing me a detailed image of her bladder :)

LondonGirl83 · 19/08/2016 16:19

I actually got curious and looked it up-- seems to be less to do with internal organs but modern imagery tech's ability to see external sex organs. Interesting all the same!

Determination of gender - 10 and 14 weeks by Z Efrat et al which appeared in the Journal: Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology 1999; 13:305–30, reported:

The 172 women were all scanned transabdominally. Using a midline sagittal scan with the fetus supine and the spine parallel to the transducer face (sound lines perpendicular) ‘without extension of the spine or limbs’, angles were drawn on an image of the genital area with a line through the genital tubercle and another through the lumbosacral skin line. Male fetuses were characterised by an angle >300 (angle increases with age) and a females by parallel or convergent lines (angle

London Thanks for that info - those accuracy figures are amazing! And I'm 11+4 so that would put it at more that 99%. I guess I'm having a boy then! I must confess to being slightly disappointed as I was hoping for a girl. But I do know that having a healthy baby is the most important thing, and we will love it just as much either way!

I've been thinking about joining the February thread - already on the March one so not sure if it would be cheeky to join both! Still, I spend enough time on MN that I could probably keep up Grin

NameChange30 · 19/08/2016 17:32

I mean 12+4

ChatEnOeuf · 19/08/2016 19:47

Was going to suggest it's external signs you're looking for on scan - I've seen very experienced radiographers struggle to find ovaries in term babies. They are really small!

Some of my overseas friends have needed proof of who they are and that they have permission to leave the country when travelling alone with their kids. Worth thinking about before going, though I expect it's rare. DD was questioned on re-entry to the UK earlier this year. She was with both of us and shares a surname with both of us (and looks just like our child would look!) but they were still suspicious. Perhaps because she is a slim 4yo, and her passport pic is of a fat 4m old?!

Congrats on the scan, Name :)

NameChange30 · 19/08/2016 20:13

Thanks Chat Smile
I think the sonographer saw some er... external evidence which is why she said it's a boy!! She pointed it out although tbh I had no idea what all the bits were, I was taking her word for it Grin
When is your next scan?

ChatEnOeuf · 19/08/2016 20:22

Next planned one is at 9w. Hoping to sneak a research scan in next week though ;)

NameChange30 · 19/08/2016 20:22

Ooh Gx! Smile

FuzzyOwl · 20/08/2016 13:43

Hope you get your sneaky scan Chat.

My DD's passport picture is of her at about a month old and she stopped looking like it by the time she flew at three months old, so I will make sure I take evidence on any future holidays we go on. I do have a scanned copy of my marriage certificate and her birth certificate on my phone although haven't been asked yet (we've flown four times) but will be prepared for the eventuality.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Canters15 · 21/08/2016 08:52

Gx for the next scan chat!

Is it bad that I am 27 weeks and already at the get the baby out of me stage? Think it's a combination of feeling fat, uncomfortable and totally over work! 6 weeks to mat leave....

Canters15 · 21/08/2016 08:53

Oh and btw my boybees winkle was v obvious on our 12+6 scan! I went out and bought a boy babygro after I was so sure!

MyBlackCat · 21/08/2016 15:17

24 weeks for me canters and I'm feeling fat and uncomfortable Shock bought our first lot of baby clothes this weekend, it's really hard not to buy the whole shop but think we have managed to control ourselves. Trying not to spend too much as he will grow so quickly, a combo of primarni, mothercare sale and tk max - also found a second hand shop locally and got a couple of bits Smile

Have decided on the pushchair/travel system we will get but going to wait until closer to due date before ordering to maximise the warranty. DH is currently upstairs building the nursery furniture, I asked him if he was feeling a bit scared about it all like me but he said he was just excited Shock

MyBlackCat · 21/08/2016 15:20

Oh and there are Christmas films on C5 this afternoon, this scares the crap out of me as all being well we will have a baby at Christmas Shock

SockQueen · 21/08/2016 21:10

No more work for me! Of course, I finished my last day with an emergency section, on a lady only a few days further on than me (but with a considerably higher BMI just to add to the fun). Very much looking forward to not having to get up early tomorrow!

Having hassle about cot mattresses at the moment - long story, but now I think we're going to have two mattresses for one crib and I'm not sure I can return either!

FuzzyOwl · 22/08/2016 21:33

Yay about no more work Sock.

I seem to be mainly struck down with PGP and bump pain. On the one hand I hope this baby comes as early as is safe for her to do so but on the other I am having quite a battle asking for an ELCS so need plenty of time to know what will be happening for labour.

Hope everyone is doing ok.

LondonGirl83 · 23/08/2016 12:06

Sock congrats on ending work!

FuzzyOwl why won't your trust grant you your c-section? I'm concerned about the same thing if I continue with NHS care.

ChatEnOeuf · 25/08/2016 12:37

How's mat leave suiting you, Sock?

Research scan this afternoon! Bit scared. Might think about calling the MWs if all looks okay in there...might wait a little longer. When did I turn into such a wuss?!

NameChange30 · 25/08/2016 14:51

Chat Best of luck for your scan! x

ChatEnOeuf · 25/08/2016 18:27

Thanks, Name. All good in there, didn't imagine it!

NameChange30 · 25/08/2016 19:57

Yay! Grin How far along are you now?

ChatEnOeuf · 25/08/2016 21:20

7 weeks now - MCs have been between 6 and 8+, so a little bit longer on pants watch, scan at 9w, then probably at 12w, then we shall see. Not confident, but things feel a little different this time around.

NameChange30 · 25/08/2016 21:40

Gx Gx Gx!

FuzzyOwl · 25/08/2016 21:46

Glad things feel different this time round Chat and hopefully things go smoothly from now.

London ELCS has now been granted which is a huge relief.
